IMPORTANT : I mentioned in the video that the standard sheath has the same pocket clip on it and that is WRONG info, the standard sheath does NOT have a pocket clip...I forgot to edit that out...please thumbs up this comment so everyone can see it, thanks!
Hey kinda random considering the topic of this video but is there any way you could do a video on tips and drills that beginner flippers can do to get more comfortable with a live blade? I've cut myself a couple of times and it has made me nervous to use my knife. Thanks!
I can tell you Seal Strike really did a good job responding to what features are useful. I had Seal Pup Elite for 17 years now and, it still is my primary knife for just about anything and you may think military would not use a knife often, we do a lot. We spend the majority of our time setting up camps, and putting things together/down which involves cutting ropes, canvases and etc. The biggest pain for Seal Pup Elite was the lack of glass breaker. Usually when you are throwing something through a window, you use the knife the cut the bug net, break the window, then throw it in. With the former we had to cut the net, then use the rifle to break the window, which is not as convenient or fast as using the knife to do all, which is where we liked Seal Team Elite, but that knife was way too big and heavy to be worth while. Thanks for the video, I'll probably buy Seal Strike but I'm quite upset with how SOG lost its quality so much, I hope you can comment on its quality after long term use.
Also the grooves where you are putting the thumb on is not for the thumb, it's for when weapons jam extra badly and we need an extra grip on the charging handle. It is supposed to for example, grip the charging handle on a M249 and pull back, which is why you put your thumb behind the guard.
I have had this knife for a while and I'm pretty impressed. It holds the edge pretty well for a SOG. I have yet to use the sharpener. No knife deserves that torture unless completely necessary.
This knife is just another example of what I've felt for a long time. I just don't know about SOG nowadays. Decades ago I started off being a SOG fanboy. But over the years I've witnessed Cold Steel take SOG's game and just plain play it better on all fronts and do that cheaper then them. I would really like to see a few knife companies like SOG and Gerber under new management and clean up their acts. I really do miss those awesome knife companies of my youth
I aways take the *insert military/police group* approved branding thing with a handful of salt. In the both jobs you use a blade occasionally for opening boxes and food and stuff, real general use. In the police its a little more important to have an edge as occasionally you go to suicide/attempt suicide hanging jobs, but that's generally the job for the leatherman serrated edge. Fixed blades for LEOs would generally be the rapid deployment last ditch things like a small karambit mounted to the core area. I don't have military time under my belt, but guys I know do carry fixed blades, and use thrm for opening boxes and crates and MREs. The knife companies always make out that the blades see far greater glory than that though, its all a bit silly.
Nice review Jeff. I'm kinda liking this thing because it's a cool knife, and (I believe a knife that was designed to assume), you have a primary fire-starter and sharpener...nice clip etc...
enjoyed the review. very informative. what I'd like to know is what knife would you prefer over this one? my personal preference is fixed, partially serrated. any suggestions? maybe something better or more value for money? thanks
Jeff, a second thought, (for a vid from you). Almost begs the question....why haven't we seen more vids in context of what you mention here on serrations... e.g. do some demo vids on why you prefer straight edge vs. serrated, and....what serrations (also demonstrated) are better than others ?....Good suggestion ??
SOG should've made the height of the ferro rod adjustable and left out the sliding piece that exposes the blade. I noticed the sheath gets chewed up from striking it.
Thanks for the honest review. Yeah, metal overlay is useless. Serrations suck, the top guard is in the way. A few flaws with this knife. But it's good it's only 4 mm thick. The Seal Pub is too thick at 5 mm.
5:37 doesn't need to protrude much, how far can the plastic scrape down before the rod falls out is the question. the knife will knock down the sides of the plastic well enough to probably ignore it in the use of the rod.
FYI skull is not a seal its a Vietnam sf group called (studies & observation group) or (special operations group) the group is kind of famous for their knives and the knife company (sog) was inspired by the special forces group
+Hissatsu5 yeah SOG's about page has a good history lesson in that...but again the skull wearing a beret is suppose to just look badass and sell more knives, lol
+Om Tony nope...when you buy a knife new the VAST majority of them are properly oiled right out of the box, but if you handled them often you should wipe them down with a very lightly oiled rag every so often to ensure the oils from your hand or the humidity in the storage area doesnt start to rust them, thats all, as far as cleaning goes they only need to be cleaned if they get dirty or dusty
I'm assuming you have to have a cc licenses to carry iwb, at least that's just my understanding of blades over 3-4 inches. then again I live in Florida, so any fix blades I carry are open carry and out there.
Hey Jeff, I was wondering if you can do review the benchmade saddle mountain skinner(the thin and wood acrylic) I'm a Boy Scout camp staff member and I was wondering your thoughts on it. Thanks(I was wondering if it would be a good steel for cleaning fish all day)
Hey Jeff, i was wondering if you could do a review of the Benchmade SOCP Combo Edge. It's a great knife at a decent price, and I feel that it's a tad under rated.
The flare is to keep your hand from sliding down on to the blade when stabbing into an enemy body. I don't think it's designed for wood carving detailing.
+john- waxerone thats what any guard is for which is fine but the guard on the back of the knife is not needed....if they wish to flare out both sides thats fine but dont add jimping you cant touch and a ramp thats never going to be used...
Light knife weight = to that much more ammo a Soldier can carry. Shroud cutter yes... insulated communication wires... Oh Hell Yes. Most of sentry rear attack slashes to the femurs and throat veins... Will be landing the users fleshy inside part of their forefinger between the 1st and 2nd knuckle in that recessed sector just front of that rubber hilt, and not their thumb. The rubber part of the hilt is there to maintain a non slip grip as the user pulls the knife across those said veins. Therefore, "Seal Strike" But what would i know about such things? -Former Sgt. 82nd Abn. 1/504 Inf. Div. 11B4P Recondo 71-74
The Navy SEALS use it edge up with the index finger over the guard for cutting throats so the gimping and top guard has a purpose if you know what its for👍
+Redfish Runner lol ever since the beginning I was a variety show, knives are and always will be my biggest hobby, but I share tons of other hobbies as well...
Maybe my username gives you the wrong idea of me. I chose that name a few years back because i didn´t know what name i should put in. I'm just that regular guy that dresses all black and happens to like knives and japanese cars that's all...
+Zevinox amazon usually has the best prices thats why I post thew amazon links but sometimes dealers have a slightly better price, but its rare...always look around for the best prices just because I post a link to make it easy to find doesnt mean you just look there, always try to get the best price you can find :) ps I know some guys outside the US that make froiends with people in the US on the knife forums that buy knives cheaper here in the states and then ship them out to their friends over seas...you will save money even with the high shipping costs
+cutlerylover First of all, thanks for the answer :) You're by far my favourite UA-camr :D The thing is that most things on amazon US are not available in my country or crazy expensive on amazon EU. Just like this knife for example, it's 130€ The problem with getting to know people who'd send me stuff from the US is that basically 99% of them are afraid of getting scammed, myself included. Talking about price, the most I'd ever spend on a knife is (as I commented on your "my currently most expensive knife" video) 140€. Adding 50-60€ shipping to the price of a decent knife is sadly close to that if not higher, and since I've just finished school I'm not a guy who can drop 150 - 200€ on a single knife every now and then. I wouldn't even EDC any of my knives that cost more than 40€ because they're just too expensive for me to rebuy. I'm not complainig or anything, if I reaaaaaally wanted one, I'd probably buy one for 130, it's just the fact that it's almost twice the price for people in Europe (or at least Austria) that kind of pisses me off :D
Glad to see more knife reviews coming from you lately. Is it me or does SOG seem increasingly "gerbery" lately? Paint this thing orange and you could make Bear Grylls a fortune with it. At least their build and material quality seems to have remained the same.
this seems like a really cool knife and id honestly like to have one but without the special sheath this knife seems extremely subpar for the 60-70$ price tag. I really don't see anything unique, special or particularly attractive about the knife itself, it seems like a lot of the selling points on this knife has to do with the special sheath itself so the idea of having to spend an extra 20-30$ to get the sheath seems a lot like having to spend extra money on video game to buy downloadable content that feels like it should have been part of the original game.. 90$ just seems like too much money for a knife like this with this kind of steel where a major part of the setup is a cool sheath that isn't even part of the basic purchase. I got an Ontario USA RAT-3 for 90$ at a local shop no less so I have a hard time justifying buying this knife for that price when I can get something that, simply put, is just such a better deal such as the RAT-3 in high carbon with micarta scales and a perfectly usable sheath. If this Seal Strike knife was around 50$ including the gimmicky yet still cool sheath then id be interested in it in a heartbeat. But a knife this size that's not only being sold as a gimmicky setup with something like AUS-8 steel and the main gimmicky part, the only part that's really interesting about it, the sheath, costing an extra 20$ I really cant see myself buying this setup for 90$ and I really cant see any reason to buy this knife without the special sheath seeing as how that's really the only unique aspect of it.That being said I personally love SOG knives in general, I own the SOG Snarl, the SOG Spec Elite in VG-10 (my favorite knife steel) as well as some other various SOG knives like their 3 blade throwing set. I respect, appreciate and encourage unique ideas coming through from the knife makers and part of me likes supporting the continuation of unique and bold ideas but the price has to be right. I don't have a lot of money to waste on needless knife purchases so I need them to be worthwhile.

+brandoncormier4 I don't want to get too comfortable with not having any risk at all and then when I untape it I get too loose
Damn you Jeff, I was about to go to bed and now I have to watch a 20 minutes knife review!
+JoeDurobot lol it will still be there tomorrow, promise

Check out the OKC Mark 3 Navy Diver knife. It's about $80 and it's the same knife that UDT/SEALs actually carry.
And it's made of 440a stainless steel so you can actually dive in salt water with it and it won't rust. Don't feed the Chinese SOG monster.
Also me and my brother often talk about the awesomeness of a fully veff serration on a knife
Hissatsu5 you realize veff serrations are very well known to chip at the tips easily ...
I've binged watched all your videos
I did that in 2014 lol
Jeff, a second thought, (for a vid from you). Hey Jeff, i was wondering if you could do a review of the Benchmade SOCP Combo Edge. It's a great knife at a decent price, and I feel that it's a tad under rated.
Agreed

The normal sheath does not have a clip on it. And it is actually different with shape and what not.
Dude at 14:37 to 14:45 you had me laughing out loud man. Funny stuff.
same here, I knew someone else would have too lol
This exact knife cost over $180 us in England
The Navy SEALS use it edge up with the index finger over the guard for cutting throats so the gimping and top guard has a purpose if you know what its for👍
I'll stick with my plain edge seal pup elite and even then it's a back up to a back up.
EDC push knife review??
pocket clip?
hey Jeff, you should plasti-dip that metal insert! would probably look a lot better!
Great review! Just ordered one!
That was an accurate review... nailed it!
OMFG IS THIS A KNIFE VIDEO JEFF? I thought you were a chef.
+Redfish Runner lol ever since the beginning I was a variety show, knives are and always will be my biggest hobby, but I share tons of other hobbies as well...

Ka-Bar Fighting Knife Review????
nice blade thanks for sharing atb John
the vast majority of the use of knifes in the military is opening MREs and other packaging
real cool design! as always, I enjoy your vids! never stop making them even if you're, like, 90! LOL
Ha, light = cheap! I got this reaction just today showing a guy a Manix 2
this knife looks like it belongs in the batman and Robin movie
Does someone a website that sells knives worldwide (more exactly to Portugal).
Please help guys...
What a cool, edgy name you have. Go easy on the teenage angst before you hurt yourself, little guy...

AUS8 steel for a Seal?
I see what you did there
Can you do a review of the razor lite from outdoor edge
I'm pretty sure he did a month or 2 ago
I like jimping on my knives but the jimping on this knife just looks way too aggressive

+bkacc Comptoncrips Why is your budget only 15$?
+fluffywhiteducky i am p poor and i want to save as much money as i can. i do mow lawns every week as a side job so i would have more money to use. 15 is kind of the median of my max price. i would say my max spending price is 50 dollars.
+bkacc Comptoncrips get a mora, or an opinel knife. best for your money that cheap.
Look at the ganzo knives at gearbest.com. They are pretty solid and cheap. G727 is exactly 15 bucks.
Sorry to hear that man. Im happy to hear you still love knives though. Swiss army Recruits i think are only like 15-20$, that would be a great option. Also i am a huge fan of the Kershaw Chill. When i bought mine it was 16$, i think they have gone up a bit in price since then but only by one or two bucks, i edc'ed mine for a couple years and loved it. I love sog #sog for life
It looks kinda "tacticool" to me
CRKT M16-13FX is probably the most tacticool blade in my opinion, mall cop wise it gets a 10/10, but it cuts like a gas station knife.
my izula 2 had the same kind of pocket clip
Ha guessed correctly. Hooray for my internet cred I guess lol.
Looking for a new knife, since someone stole my Ka-Bar off my flak...
A get home bag ok but 90.00 little high for that
"I edc it for 3 days" pmsl over using the term
+PulzeGaming not at all, EDC stands for every day carry every single knife thats has ever been EDC'd has been EDC'ed for a certain amount of time that ended...besides I came up with the term anyway ;)
cutlerylover Personally think you should just say u used it for 3 days haha makes more sense, unless its actually your edc knife
it messes up the jimping
That you cant get to the gimping on the top of the actual steel.
+Setthehook Fishing haha yes!
My ent gonna give me a zippo lighter that no one touch it like 10 years! (it waz my mother OLD lighter) it sounds like a zippo story to your channel , ha? (forgive me on my english i'm not from U.S.A, and i 12 years old...)
