  • We’re sharing an excerpt from our comprehensive online course today, related to how to heat seal your decorated sugar cookies. I see so many people struggle with this and many folks aren’t getting the most out of their heat sealer (using it on the wrong setting, not sealing correctly, causing it to really not be airtight, etc.) If this video is helpful for you, please share it with someone else who might benefit from it and be sure to tag us in your stories as you package! @borderlandsbakery

    Your packing looks great. In Thailand we get street food, hot soup etc, in PE plastic bags, they have no visible seems, but are still extremely strong and heat resistant, you can boil water in them and they still hold (my own test). If you use a higher setting on your sealer, you get the no seem seal, it is super strong, even when the seem is hairline thin. I use them in a vacuum machine for ready made foods.

    Thank you for sharing! Great reminder that the sealer strips, etc. do burn out and needs replacing every now and again. I also love your bags because they’re so sturdy compared to the ones I randomly got off Amazon.

    This is from your page: It’s usually safe to put heat sealed cookies directly into the freezer, but unless if they have a box outside of them, I prefer to add another layer of protection but putting them in gallon freezer bags and setting in the freezer.

    You can remove the flap when your heat ceiling by pulling on it when it’s still hot after it seals. The numbers are not for level numbers are for length of time.

      Thanks for the info on the times! I don’t prefer this method because it sometimes leaves sneaky airholes after the flap detaches.

    Your video was a nice watch. Thank you.
    My gf and I are looking to improve packaging for bath bombs. My first thought was a wider sealer, more like what is on the bottom of your clearbags already. Have you seen a reasonably affordable one that provides a wider seal? Or, other thoughts were towards some form of shrink wrap - heat, not vacuum. I'm searching, was just wondering if someone could make the search easier with product(s) they do (or don't) trust.

    Question on checking that the seal is good....you make sure there is no air in the bag before sealing - so once it's sealed and you push down to make sure air doesn't come out - how do you know because you made sure there was no air in the bag before you sealed? I'm really trying to check my seal because my cookies don't seem to stay fresh in the bag long enough.

    • @BorderlandsBakery
      @BorderlandsBakery  2 роки тому +2

      airtight does not mean air-less. By pushing, we're testing that air isn't going out, which is the only way to check if air is also coming in, because if there's a hole, air flows both ways. If your cookies don't stay as fresh for as long, you can try by underbaking a tad or changing up your ratios a bit ;)

    • @BorderlandsBakery
      @BorderlandsBakery  3 роки тому +1

      As long as both are airtight, it's up to you what you use. It depends on the purpose of what you're heat sealing for. Many people in my audience sell decorated sugar cookies and this is how I would want to give it to someone, not in tupperware. If you don't need to heat seal something for sale, gifting, and a tupperware can be used, great!

    How long would cookies stay fresh when sealed properly like this?

    • @BorderlandsBakery
      @BorderlandsBakery  3 роки тому +1

      It depends on your recipe, how you bake them and how long it takes for you to ice them, which all matter when it comes to how long they stay "good" according to what they are "supposed" to be based on how you like them. About 2 weeks is safe, usually. But only way to be sure is to do a test yourself.
