  • In this episode, we drive our camper van just West of Ocala, Florida to go tubing down the Rainbow River at Rainbow Springs State Park. It's amazing to float down the clearest water ever - over 200 feet visibility! But it's not all rainbows and sunshine on this tubing adventure. We also find ourselves in the middle of a scary Florida thunderstorm with lightning striking all around us. It makes for an incredible story. It's a ride we will never forget and we hope you enjoy!

    Floating the rainbow river is awesome! Great family fun at a reasonable cost. Go to rainbow river State Park to swim afterwards. We hit the Blue Gator for a bite to eat before heading home to Crystal River. Crystal River is awesome. The springs, manatees and great fishing.

    It’s smart to go there during weekdays during the school year. Like you said, it can get REAL crowded. During the summer as you know, thunderstorms can pop up anywhere. And Florida is the lightning capital of the US.

    • @PSAdventures
      @PSAdventures  Рік тому +1

      Definitely! When one of the locals told us we better jump in right away we couldn't pass that up. There were some warning signs about the storm and just after we got in the feeling of being stuck out there wasn't too great. We'll have to be a little more careful in the future since lightning isn't something to mess around with. Always great to hear from you!

    It rains every time we camp there. By now I'm sure you know that campers can pay at the campground store to use the tram to get back. It was only $10 each for campers, but now its $20+ or something like that. And yes, the parking lot can fill up in minutes on a summer weekend.

      Thanks so much for the tip Soladaddy! It'd probably be pretty cool if it was just raining but the lightning was pretty freaky on this trip! Well worth a visit though. We love Rainbow Springs! 😍

      Thanks so much!! It was a blast even though we got surprised by the storm. On another day, we lucked out with great weather and took the paddleboard out for a swim. Here's a link to that video in case you missed it! ua-cam.com/video/HTO8g4DvMU4/v-deo.html

    Love Rainbow River and the tubing area! We did the tubing in August too. You can bring reusable water bottles. We buy water shoes to walk around. Alligators won't normally bother you. When we went we didn't see any. We used bungee cords to stay together and tied our stuff with it.

    • @PSAdventures
      @PSAdventures  Рік тому +1

      That makes sense about being able to bring reusable water bottles. The alligator situation is always so funny because even if they're just relaxing on the bank, Sarah gets a little freaked out! Especially when you have your rear dangling in the water. Haha! That's a lot of great suggestions Florida and Beyond. Thanks for watching! 💓

      @@PSAdventures now tubing down Ginnie in brown water freaks me out. I would think with all the noise alligators won't bother you, but I am not a fan of brown water. I have to see where I swim lol.

      Yes, your absolutely correct! While it's rare, there is the occasional alligator encounter in Florida. 🤷

    We love Rainbow Springs but that thunder and lightning looks scary. Not to mention the gators. Omg we take Nikki on the kayak and paddle boards there thinking it’s too cold for most gators but now re thinking that. 🐊

    • @PSAdventures
      @PSAdventures  Рік тому

      Oh wow! Yeah there were a couple of alligators that we saw but they usually tend to stay to themselves. It's a little crazy though having your rear poking down in the water compared to being nice and high on a paddle board. We had to go back the next day to explore a little more on the board though. It's such a beautiful place! We hope you guys are having some great adventures and thanks for watching! 😊

    I read that you can canoe from the campground to the head springs to avoid the lines to get in, and you can also launch your tubes from the campground too and then take the tram back

    • @PSAdventures
      @PSAdventures  5 місяців тому

      Thanks so much for the suggestion! Definitely a few ways to do the river. The tram is so convenient if you happen to park right there! 😊

    Hello Paul & Sarah, wow, that water is so crystal clear amazing! Is it cold? Thunder and alligator, oh my GOD, that's scary, lol. By the way, love the drone shot, it give us a wonderful view.

      It was a little cold but the same temperature as all the springs at about 72 degrees F. We've never seen water that crystal clear before though. Wow! We're glad you loved it and hope you're having some good adventures. Thanks for watching! 😊

    So happy to find a PS Adventures video up to enjoy this morning! Just got home from swimming (I swim pretty much 7 days a week with very few exceptions). I am going to try to rest up for a Halloween party tonight. Movie recommendation: The Banshees of Inershin is a terrific movie.
    Tubing is something I have never done and would like to try in the future! (I would just make sure that no big storms are a-brewin').

    I don’t live too far from there. That’s one of the most beautiful springs in the world, and the whole river is crystal clear. Swampy’s is a restaurant right on the river I recommend off 484. I had the Gator bites last time.

    • @PSAdventures
      @PSAdventures  Рік тому

      It's really unbelievable how crystal clear the water was. 200 feet of visibility is just incredible! Oh we saw that restaurant and heard it was a good place to visit. That's awesome that you live so close to Rainbow Springs. We'd go there all the time if we were closer. How cool that we were in your neighborhood. Ha!

      Haha! It was actually more of a plant-based cheese sandwich that was packed with cucumbers. It probably wouldn't be too filling if it was just cucumbers but it was great since we were so hungry. Thanks for watching! 😊

      Wow! What a coincidence Natalie! It was a great spot there at the campground. I think we got pretty lucky with the last minute booking. It's funny that you mention that because the next day we had to go back and explore with a little more control on the paddle board! Thanks for watching! 😊

      I know right?? We felt like sitting ducks in those tubes. Haha. I think we always had this fun idea of tubing like in a lazy river but it's different tubing in the wild with alligators and storms. It's funny that you mention the paddle board though because the next day we had to get out there on the board! Always great to hear from you Carolyn! 😊
