- Wekiwa Springs kayaking is the perfect way to spend the day, and to top it off, we are also going camping. Wekiwa Springs State Park is the closest state park to Orlando, Florida and boasts the beautiful Wekiwa River and Rock Springs Run, as well as swimming in the beautiful clear waters. We stop by Wekiwa Island, a tiki bar on the water, and are sure to spot some Florida wildlife like alligators, birds, and turtles! Our treat at the end of a wonderful day on the water is a fancy Thai noodle dinner at camp. You don’t want to miss this adventure!

my wife and I are watching from Ontario Canada. We come to Florida every Spring. We just got back from camping at Manatee Springs. I used to live in Florida as a child and take every opportunity to co9me back.
Hello to you both up in Ontario! We see so many Canadians down here over the winter every year. Since it's starting to turn warm again we're seeing a steady stream of Canadians on I-95 heading north. We just went camping at some state parks and met a few that were down for the season and going back home. It'd be cool if we ever bumped into you at a campsite!

I just started watching you guys and somehow came across this older video. This video is a really cool adventure. I found it funny of the statement in this video of you guys are "van envy". I'm definitely watching so keep up the great content!
I know! Isn't that so crazy?? Great catch! We remember walking through the parking lot thinking how cool it would be to have a van and be able to visit places with a tiny home on wheels. It's so cool to look back on that now. Wow! We're so happy you're enjoying our videos! 😊
Try paddling from Rock Springs (rentals available there) to Wekiwa Island where the outfitter shuttles you back. The first time I did it...not one gator. The 2nd time...holy crap!!! There were so many! Pretty much they were just sunning themselves on logs, and couldn't have cared less about me or my sister. That ramen looked pretty good😋.
Oh wow! We didn't realize they have a shuttle there at Wekiwa Island. What a great idea. So maybe have a few drinks and then have a little luxury being driven? We had only seen one alligator so we didn't realize there could be that many. Whoah. We'll have to go back and try that. Thanks for the tip! We love our ramen. 😆😋
Wowie zowie yowzers!!! Yay, a brand new adventure!!!! I am afraid of alligators - have you guys ever been attacked by any animals - besides bugs - during your many adventures? Was that a black cormorant that you saw while you were kayaking? We have white cormorants here. This was a wonderful surprise this morning!!!!
We haven't necessarily been attacked but we had a HUGE elk in Rocky Mountain National Park try to eat Paul's backpack! He wandered into camp and wasn't afraid of us at all. The bird that was sitting on the log looks similar to a black cormorant but has a straight beak called an anhinga. So glad you enjoyed Freeman! Happy adventuring! 💕
You guys remind me of my husband and I kayaking. He is always trying to get us too close to the gators and I'm always yelling, back up! Back up! 😂
Haha! 😂 Yeah I get in trouble sometimes when I try to get us too close to the alligators. I don't think Sarah likes that too much but they always look so relaxed! So glad I'm not the only one! 🐊😆
Am I the only one who doesn't want to be anywhere on or near the water, where alligators might lurk? I once took a canoe trip into the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Georgia. That was like paddling through an alligator farm, except these gators aren't behind fences. We had to camp on designated raised platforms to keep from sharing beds with these critters. We fished along the way and hooked many but never managed to land a single one, since the gators always got em first. Once a beautiful bird landed on the inky, black water right next to the boat. Before I could snap a picture, a gator had snapped the bird. We had floating feathers after that.
What we needed was a much bigger boat. If you like to see nature up-close and don't mind the idea of being eaten, then that's the trip for you.
😮 Omg! That sounds like a crazy place to be on the water. I don't think we'd be taking our paddleboard there. Whoa! We might have to look into that for a wildlife excursion. Thanks for sharing!
Wekiwa Springs is a great all-around park. The best time to go is a weekday during the school year. Getting there early is always a plus. Nice relaxing video!
Thanks so much for the tips Victory! Yeah we definitely agree on going on a weekday. Later in the morning when we went by the front gate, the line was crazy to get into the park. It's such a nice park for a lot of reasons. Glad you enjoyed!
We just found these chips called Off the eaten path at Publix. Fooducate gave them an A- , so kind of healthier lol.
Next time we're in Publix we'll have to try them! It's always a struggle in the chip isle and most of the time the chips win! 😂 Thanks for the suggestion!

We also did the bioluminescent kayak your in Cocoa Beach at Merritt Island. It was AMAZING! Actually did the “manatee rodeo”! Haha I was not impressed to be honest. It scared me to pieces haha

I saw that the check out time for camping is at 1pm but can I like check out and pick up everything at that time and then keep enjoying the park or I'll have to leave when I check out?
Hi! Thanks for the question! As long as you pack up and leave your campsite, you can stay and enjoy the park until close. We love to do that too!
I love to eat so much!!! But my metabolism isnt has fast as you guys!! I was thinking of going Vegan maybe that would help! .. I love publix by the way!!
That's one of the reasons we love being vegan is because we can eat SO MUCH. Haha! It's definitely a plus. If you haven't seen it watch "The Game Changers" on Netflix. It's pretty amazing!

It was pretty busy when we went also! That's one reason we like to get out on the water to get away from the crowds. It's a beautiful place to visit!

gators dont usually attack unless you get near their nest. They are pretty lazy otherwise.

Beautiful area! We canoed there on one of our visits to family in Orlando & unfortunately my sister and I tipped our canoe. It was terrifying! We had seen several gators before that. After we tipped our canoe right side we had to paddle the whole way back. Felt very foolish. Lesson learned- make sure you know how to operate a canoe before you paddle with gators! 🐊
Oh no!! That must have been quite an experience especially with you guys seeing gators right before. Whoah. 😮 I'm sure they normally don't bother you but still scary. You have a great story now though! Did you ever go canoeing again after that?

What publix sub do you guys get ? What are the toppings maybe I can try it!
We always get the veggie sub and load it up with all the veggies along with spicy mustard, oregano, salt and pepper etc. You can also get Tofurkey slices in the produce section and put those on if you really "needed" a meaty texture. Most of the time though we just get loaded veggie subs. Way better than Subway!

Great catch! No, actually. We have been mostly plant-based for nearly 20 years now so we pack our subs and meals with lots of veggies, beans and grains. 😊

It’s PRONOUNCED WAKEEWUH SPRINGS, NOT WAH KI VAH. ONE IS THE WHITE DEVELOPERS PRONUNCIATION, ONE IS THE REAL NATIVE AMERICAN NAME…..YOU CANT SAY YOU LOVE OLD FLORIDA AND PRONOUNCE IT WAKIVA….
😆 Old habits are hard to break. We've been pronouncing it Wekiva since we were kids and keep trying to work in the W! That's definitely the actual pronunciation though! Thanks for the correction!
