- Hatching can get tricky. But I've learned to not overthink it. We decided to use no water during incubating our eggs until lockdown. We also live in the desert SW. So we are at the extreme for low humidity. I am here to tell you that adding water just adds more work. We are going a smarter not harder route from now on. Enjoy!!

We actually sell the fertile eggs and ship all over the country. We stopped for the moment because of the heatwave that we have been having. But we will start up again in fall.

I'm attempting the dry hatch as we speak. My problem is the only place I have to set my incubator is my kitchen. I'm finding I can't hold the humidity due to my concrete countertops. The temp is fine but any suggestions for raising the humidity a bit? Right now I'm spending all day dampening a towel and laying it over the incubator.
You said dry hatching? So you shouldn’t add any water. Let it be dry. I only add water the last 3 days. During the lockdown period. I think mine would be around 17-20% naturally without me adding any water. With the water method you’d want around 40-45%.
So dry method. No water. Lockdown full water. Humidity should be 60-75% during lockdown. Worked for us anyways.

How do you keep ducks clean?

Don’t think it’s possible. But only thing is to keep them away from water. Make a waterer that just allows them enough to drink and clean their beak. Otherwise they make a muddy stinky mess. We would allow ours to get their bath when we get flood irrigated. So every couple weeks. Less in the winter.
I have used the small paint tray with the grid on it they drink and the excess water goes in the tray not in the litter but keep your eye on the water and empty as needed
@@alan0merola144 we decided against ducks anymore. We sold what we had left. Way less maintenance without them. We moved on to quail for a few reasons. But we also still have turkeys and a few chickens.
Use crayon or pencil to mark eggs some inks are toxic
We use non-toxic markers. We haven’t had any issues.
What was your hatch rate ?
This batch was 90% we sold most of the poults. We are due to hatch in 4-5 days I think. There is an updated video I just posted. I added 14 chicken eggs to 4 duck and 4 turkey. The duck and turkey eggs are 100% developing and movement. Long story short, as of now, inside the incubator is 22 eggs, all but 4 are looking good to hatch.
So no water added a throughout entire hatch for turkeys?
No water until that last 3 days (Lockdown). So 1-25 days-zero water. 26-28 days full water.

@@ThisNorthernLife oh ok makes sense for sure...ive tried dry hatching but never added watwr in lockdown, but being that its needed for the big reveal i see the benefit....still hold at 99.5 the entire time correct? And fill both trays with water during lockdown.

How do you manage to get them to eat and drink? Also, when do they need food and water (like how much time do I give them), I’m trying to get them to drink by touching their beaks to the water and tap my finger in their food but no luck, any suggestions??????
Honestly I don’t dip beaks. They will figure it out. Once a poult or chick starts pecking at something the others follow. They are curious and figure it out. No need to force it. They can go days with no food or water after hatching.

Very hard to tell at this age. Sometimes we don’t know until they are much older.
