There are LOTS of great guitar players in the world. But there is only one Greg Koch, and no one else combines virtuosity, originality, groove, and humor the way he does. He is the best I have ever heard.
I was there and it was the first time seeing greg koch and malford it was awesome!!!! Mr koch is a great musican I would love to hear him live again...
I've yet to hear this man play one note of anything that "doesn't make me smile" a week ago I'd never heard of him, he's now my all time hands down "favorite" guitar player !! 👍🏼✌🏼️
My dream double Bill would be Greg Koch and Junior Brown... probably the two most underrated guit slingers out there. Neither take themselves too seriously, and they use whimsical, entertaining 'stream of conscience' riffing to keep everyone's ears paying attention.
I was at this show in Portland. Robben Ford played the night before and Johnnie Winter played right after, Greg burned them both to the ground. He was on!. He's a real nice guy too. He hung out and signed autographs for a long time.
*Attractive woman plays to the camera* "You wanna rock?" *Woman approvingly makes rock faces for the camera* *Guitar comes in* Oh shit, guitars! *camera quickly moves straight to guitar, see ya later lady*
if anyone can agree with me i believe greg is a different kind of beast he just made up his own style with influences from hendrix, led, jeff beck, albert lee, chet atkins, roy buchanan and the list goes on and on not to mention he worked with fender so....
May I please say, this guy is an excellent guitar player. ONe this is inspiring to us all. Fabulous playing, what makes it even better still, he's got the same Telecaster that I've got. The classic 52 reissue Telecaster in butterscotch blonde, great player great guitar. By the way, the girlie at the start of the vid is extremely hot for that matter.
I was never a Telecaster fan, just didn't like the look that much. Then this summer I bought a knock off version for my dad to play while I was visiting him at the beach in southern Maine. It was the best inexpensive guitar available at the local shop (I got a used PRS SE Custom 24 for myself at the same shop, Gary's Guitars in Portsmouth New Hampshire). After playing the Tele for a while, I got hooked. Funny, but now they look great, and I want one for myself! Oh and Greg really rocks.
Just came across this Greg Koch video. If any of the previous hater commenters read this I'd just like to say that I'm sure when Joe Bonamassa does a concert where ever you live he has his people call you to play at his concert. My guess is you could use several thousand more hours of guitar practice before you'd be qualified to carry Greg's guitar case. So, go some where else.....your hate isn't needed here.
You can go ahead and name all those other, better known players. That's fine, drop some names. What you should know is they all know Greg and they all say he is in the very top tier of players.
Those who don't get what this guy (Greg Koch) is playing should clean their ears in the first place, then learn to listen to "original" players (the few ones that take you somewhere else). Anyone who says he's like out of key most the time should even learn their scales... Remember Greg Koch is a professional player that gets respect from other pro players.
nuff said about greg, but..... who is the cutie in the beginning of the video :) if girls like this came to blues and rock n roll shows where i live i'd be much happier
Was thinking the same thing. I've never heard any player with any guitar coax that ugly of a sound out of what looks like a blackface Super Reverb he's plugged into back there. He's got some decent blues chops though. I'd say he just about qualifies for the coveted title of "pretty good for a white boy."
Such an awesome well rounded performer. I wouldn't trade TEN Joe Bonamassa's for ONE Greg Koch. I may get a lot of hate for saying this, but Greg could've done much better singing than whoever that was, and even though I don't recognize the singer.........I gotta say.....I used to play & sing professionally, so I know a thing or two about vocals...........and that singer was just SO anemic. Forgive me if he happens to be an icon.........but he sure wasn't singing like one here. I don't care WHO you are.......you just can't ride on your name.......ya gotta SING. I could sing better than that........after 15 years with no rehearsal.........and with pneumonia.
Singing was the Malford Milligan. He was great & both were nice enough to talk to me right afterwards. Malford has won many awards for blues singer here & there. Used to be with Storyville. He is not anemic but he is a blue eyed black albino. Nice guy. I felt sorry for the guy that had to follow them. Some guy named Johnny Winter. Johnny was great but I just kept thinking about Greg's work.
Some kids who only learn to shred are very boring - Gen Y raised on modern metal with no concept of the blues. They execute endless scalar runs with no soul or feeling. But name me one professional player who is accurate and boring?
Yeah, surely a tad floppy on this (live) tune and a few dull notes here and there... reminds me of Hendrix, eh? There ends the comparison. Just meant to say that some extremely accurate players are also extremely boring. B grade player? You're either a very very skilled guitar player or a very funny guy! You tell us.
There are LOTS of great guitar players in the world. But there is only one Greg Koch, and no one else combines virtuosity, originality, groove, and humor the way he does. He is the best I have ever heard.
You've never heard of Danny Gatton clearly.🤣
@@matthazelby506 You are only entitled to your own opinion.
The gristle is strong in this one...
this may be the most incredible and satisfying guitar playing I've ever seen or heard. unreal.
Greg is the most versatile guitarist I've ever seen......Huge fan!
I was there and it was the first time seeing greg koch and malford it was awesome!!!! Mr koch is a great musican I would love to hear him live again...

Brutal !!! lo habre visto mil veces y no me canso.
Como hace sonar la telecaster! !!
Greg has this great way of looking like he could also be working on complex algorithms while playing a badass solo.
Now that's how a guitar should be played!!!!!!
That's great. He's a one-of-a-kind.
A master.
I was thinking about buying a Squire Telecaster Now I'm for sure this will be one in my collection of Lefty's.Greg is the man.
Amazing!
Habré visto este vídeo 1000 veces y cada vez que lo veo me hago pipi encima.
phenomenal guitar player is Greg Koch.
My dream double Bill would be Greg Koch and Junior Brown... probably the two most underrated guit slingers out there. Neither take themselves too seriously, and they use whimsical, entertaining 'stream of conscience' riffing to keep everyone's ears paying attention.
I love it how he ends the solo in a total ant-climax, so funny!!!
One of the best players around... and very funny...
Koch is a genius. It's like his brain and the guitar are in some sort of mad dialogue, both of them on acid.
Glorious.
Wauuuu.... he is one of the Best!!!!
Phenomenal playing..
I was at this show in Portland. Robben Ford played the night before and Johnnie Winter played right after, Greg burned them both to the ground. He was on!. He's a real nice guy too. He hung out and signed autographs for a long time.
Insane !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Heard Johnny Hiland played this tune and he knocked it out of the ball park.
Be afraid of this man... be very afraid.
*Attractive woman plays to the camera*
"You wanna rock?"
*Woman approvingly makes rock faces for the camera*
*Guitar comes in*
Oh shit, guitars! *camera quickly moves straight to guitar, see ya later lady*
she was more annoying than anything
Greg doing some mighty fine playing here!
Great sound from that Super reverb , by a monster player!
que rugido la de esa Telecaster, debo traer una me encanta su sonido...
this is great rock n' roll!
Awesome!
I was imagining Greg playing all this wizardry while wearing a samsquamch costume.
if anyone can agree with me i believe greg is a different kind of beast he just made up his own style with influences from hendrix, led, jeff beck, albert lee, chet atkins, roy buchanan and the list goes on and on not to mention he worked with fender so....
Greg’s great, sometimes messy bat out of hell player all over the place tricks everywhere but entertaining fender player that rock chick loves him
He is so natural , its like he dosent have to Try.
what a player
So amazing! 4:27-4:38 was just hilarious!
Good lord! Greg can play!!!
May I please say, this guy is an excellent guitar player. ONe this is inspiring to us all. Fabulous playing, what makes it even better still, he's got the same Telecaster that I've got. Koch was born too late. In earlier days he would have made the "guitar god pantheon." (He's really funny, too.)
Freedom Jazdanse, we hear ya Greg! Dusting he broom Albert, Eric, Jesu!
You've got to be kidding! Everybody's a critic, right? lol Wish I could noodle like that!
Cool!!
great tone man! wow

This happens to all guitar players eventually haha.
@martimax34 Yep - Malford Milligan, who also sings on Eric Johnson's Alien Love Child record.
Greg don give a shit he just throws in any old 'out' note and it fits !
Good tele/player,has is own feel/style,,,Will be catching up withim in mar/at the fender show.
I defer to your obvious expertise. Congratulations.
The lovely lady has great taste in guitar slingers...The Gristlemeister showing what's really hood on the Teletwanger.
American music---> THE best music on the planet!
I agree.....Nice name, BTW...lol
Just for kicks I looked up guitar slinger in the dictionary and I’ll be damned if it didn’t have Greg’s picture in the definition.
how many of you know peter green wrote this. how many of you know who peter green is?
dixon may have wrote it, but greg is doing beck's version...greg was a huge beck fan early on
Agreed!
yeah, I guess some people will just never get it...GREG KOCH RULES!
@widepass alright Frank! HELL YES!!!
Just came across this Greg Koch video. Ma-jeek captured for historical purposes
this is jeff becks "going down"
@widepass HELL, double YES!!!
Is it Millford MIligan on vocals?
Yep Malford! It was great show.
you should plug a loop station in you insane guitar man
No, you are too humble.
You're really good!
Proof that Aliens exist!
Nice nice nice.
TONE! B)
You can go ahead and name all those other, better known players. That's fine, drop some names. What you should know is they all know Greg and they all say he is in the very top tier of players.
He can play... But his tone is crazy!
Why is Telecaster in quotation marks in the title? It's not a song title.
There we got it : YOU'RE A FUNNY GUY!
Keep on amusing me, clown!
Hello. What is the name of The song???
Way Cool! 4 REEL!
:0
OMG
Blistering version of Im Going Down

How do you get that spank tone he gets at 2:52-3:00 ... is that his Gristle pedal???
What is the name of the song he plays at the end?
damn, such a tasty guitarist.
what is the original song of the minute 8:00?
That blonde stole the show for me. Greg is still awesome tho.
that tele sounds THICK. I wonder is he using single sized humbuckers
there is a video up where he has double blade pups in a blonde tele this might be that one.....
Search "Greg Koch Copenhagen clinic" he uses this guitar and talks about his double blade pickups.
Single coil bridge pickup and double blade humbucker neck pickup with a split coil pickup selector switch (between de volume and tone controls).
@coltranelovetrain
such a thought is blasphemy, greg would only ever use single coils.
practice man, practice!
nuff said about greg, but..... who is the cutie in the beginning of the video :) if girls like this came to blues and rock n roll shows where i live i'd be much happier
Anyone want to buy my gear...all of it?
so who's the hottie at the beginning? :)
+Matt Roggenkamp The hot blonde is Gregg's guitar silly.
well I want one for myself!
vai is about as cool as a poodle licking itself
Malmsteen, Satriani, E. Johnson, Buckethead
Killer Woman Tone..
misorlou something like that anyway, type in dick dale then type "m" its called sumin like miserlou
I cringe in agony every time Satriani plays voodoo chile because he has no feeling.
Tone council? Pffft you call that distorted muffled mess tone.?????

greatvanzinni '
This is perfectly serviceable playing... but it's far from "incredible." See: Danny Gatton.
There goes the clown again!
C'mon, you can do better than that!
Please, keep on posting : we want to laugh at your comments.
Some kids who only learn to shred are very boring - Gen Y raised on modern metal with no concept of the blues. They execute endless scalar runs with no soul or feeling.

Such a great player but some of the shittiest tones I mean his sound man must be on the pipe.
love this fella......but he is totally BOGARTING the show.... he mangles that tele good man...!!
