- Greg Koch tunes up for the soulful jazz funk song "Way Back Home", a cover of The Jazz Crusaders song written by Wilton Felder. Greg killed the tone that night on the Anodyne stage with his Gibson Collector's Choice #15 "Greg Martin" 1958 Les Paul and Koch Twintone III combo amplifier. This one's a Wow!
Greg Koch - Electric Guitar
Dylan Koch - Drums
Theo Merriweather - Keyboards
Eric Hervey - Bass guitar
Recorded live at Anodyne Coffee Roasting Company in the Walker's Point neighborhood Milwaukee, WI on March 16, 2017. - Розваги
Of all the guitars players on the planet , this guy is the one I'd want to hang out and ,talk music and jam with for a night-
Hear hear! I second that motion!
I third that. What a beast on guitar. And his story telling is almost as good. Down to earth. I could hang out with Greg any day.
number 4
Ok. Five then.
numero 6 here
Do you know how good it feels to be anyone of those guys in that band when they are locked in the pocket like that? Nothing else like it
Sir Greg Koch nice I could listen all night.
The savage tones of Gregory Kochery...
his licks are so unique, what a incredible player.
Mad respect for the solo on the keys. Wailing.
greg plays what i would play if i could play like greg
This is just fantastic. Whatever you call this, jazz, fusion, instrumental rock.... I DIG IT!!!
Supreme player the Greg is.........sublime stuff.
The Kochmeister on a roll is a frighteningly wonderful sonic delight. Absolutely killer, as usual. :-)
Apart from awesome lead. This is a great display of beautiful rhythm work during that astounding keys solo. Not getting in the way just chugging away soulfully. Nice.
Amazing! And that guitar is just as cool as it gets!... great great tone
Greg is a beast and the tone is killer. Props to Theo too. Very tasty stuff on the keys.
life long git player and Greg has this knowledge and mastery of the axe with his own special twist.. wonderful!
Greg is amazing!! Every time I hear this tune I'm blown away into toneville.... "a place which floods my musical emotions with joy to the ears"... The whole group is nailing it to the wall and it is STICKIN'
Best playing I've seen from Greg. Cat can play.
Great to hear Greg in a band context playing through a whole piece.
Great example of the way a great LP gets into juicy Tele territory in the hands of a soulful musical sorcerer. Looking forward to the record fo sho! ☮❤🎶
Usually HATE LP players (Tele,Super Strat man) but yes this is great!
As usual, killin' it Greg! So soulful!
Just like I have been telling women forever......Respect the Koch!
Masterfull!
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT 👏 👌 😀 👍 🙌
Awesome Greg, love the sound from that LP
Agree love him playing planks but what tone on the lp
best of Greg i've ever seen! Thanx 4 posting it! ✌🏼
Amazing Greg, always great tone & great soul !
The great, great Greg Koch.....
Geeze. What an amazing player!
I occasionally hear some folks say that humbuckers sound garbage clean and Gibson guitars are one trick pony rock guitars. I beg to differ. Greg is getting some of the thickest, creamiest, delicious clean sounds in this video. Man that sounds sooooo good! Les Paul + Koch amp....Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yummy.
WiserInTime No guitar is a one trick pony...only the player. At a jam last weekend, I watched a guy deliver some of the tastiest blues ever on a Jackson Rhoads...wish I had've filmed some of it...
I agree. Though, to be fair, he's playing a '58 Les Paul re-issue. Those pickups were originally meant to sound like P90s. Absolutely love it when he adds the dirt around 4 minutes in .
Depends on the pickup man. Its not the guitars fault. Low wound humbuckers can chirp and chime with the best single coils.
This is incorrect. Some guitars do a particular sound better than anything else. Its generally because of the pickups. Hot pickups lack versatility. Its usually not the woods fault.
Faaaantastic played and a great old live Mrs. Paula sound!
superb as always!!
The best there is at what he does!
Greg's the best. Smokes 1/2 the touring pros out these now.
Thanks for sharing your immense talent with hungry ears like mine, Greg. Always enjoyed your product reviews, and now it's a thrill to see your muse focused on an entity like this. Can't wait for the record.
Just effortless brilliance
High qualty solo from Greg and sound to go with it, smooth as butter, good keyboard solo also
Brilliant
dontcha just luv it when he concentrates? I do... he's a Mastuh!
Greg can pretty much cover any style....and plays them all....well....u know...
awesome greg, keep it up.
Wow! Just Incredible! 😆
Bloody fantastic
Amazing Player!
I think I may just have found the greatest 'classic style' (for want of a better term) guitar player in the world. God damn. I've been more into modern, innovative players (of Greg's generation, Kim Thayil and Fredrik Thordendal; of my own, Rabea Massaad), but I haven't heard anyone make a vintage-style Les Paul sound so sweet since my mum gave me her old Led Zeppelin IV cassette...
Greg doing it like it should be done, as usual!
SUPER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awe yeah! So funkaaay!
On fire!!
sou teu fa curto demais seu trabalho parabens pelo seiu lindo som
3:02 is such a great lick
Love the Koch amp!
And one of the smartest guys you will ever meet
Demasiado bueno!
DIG IT!!!!
The thing I like about the Squatch is that he's got technical ability but it's always second to his melodic sensibility. Except maybe in the Wildwood outtakes. lol
Hells yea
Coooeee groove hoochie coo
Your own branded amp Greg: that's cool ;-) These Dutch morcels are quite good ! \m/
Yea New Orleans is full of bands like that, But KOCHer is a Moving Mass of Mutha !
Bring on the new disc!
Sweet playing , tone snd feel. Groove, intelligent phrases and note choices, all the while keeping it funky, bluesy and sweet as BB King would do it.
That's the "Stuff"!
Yes, Stuff, so great!
Love Greg Koch, but of course, also Cornell Dupree and Eric Gale
It's a Crusaders tune but IMO this is more of a Stuff rendition.
Matt Liban most definitely the stuff
I think it was in fact the Gadd Gang (after Gordon Edwards left) - but who cares. Anything they played turned to gold.
I'd like to see & hear him play a cherry Gibson ES 335!
This is so sweet, reminds me of Larry Carlton's tone.
i like how he has the amp up off the floor....
Dylan The Drum Dealer
I'm curious to know if Greg is just running straight into the amp here, or if he also is using the old Gristle King as well. I'm only seeing the amp footswitch, so I'm guessing straight in. This video is my standard for guitar tone and playing!
Gristle takes flight
Damn, they're all players.
4:22 Holy FUK!!!
Killer... very Steely-esk...
I cant believe im asking this but what kind of keys? Sound glorious!
I feel like I've been rodgered by a paranormal guitar wielding sucubus .... that's a good thing ! Go Greg .
Guitar wielding succubus
OF THE NIGHT!!🤣🤣
Greg dances like Big Bird on Sesame Street LOL ... A savage groove of epic proportions, tho - very nice; better than the original
Nice guit-fiddle!
Is he a big guy or is that just a little guitar?
Greg is a huge guy. Well over 6 ft.
He's 6-7 or 6'8. I have pictures of him at 5-11 at 15 playing with my band. I was his teacher.
Yes
waoh ! greaaaaaaat ! thanks Mr.Koch. where this song is coming from ?
Ok the answer is in the description ... sorry. très belle interpretation (:
One of the best I have heard from Greg!
Is that a 1X12 10/25w "The Greg" in the back??? saayyyy yesssss BY THE WAY IS IT NAMM YET?!?!?!?!? CMOOONNNNNN
Koch Twintone III combo amplifier.
For shit's sake, GK's the only guy who can fit that classic 2-note Albert Collins lick into that sweet sounding intro solo. Shouldn't fit at all, but who cares...?!
wicked pissa !
that les paul looks so small on Greg.
Obviously Greg is the man, but Theo on the keys has plenty of chops. Smooth.
how tall is greg koch?
Ryan Madrid 1000 ft. (In guitar measure) He said he's 6'7"
Is that a 3/4 quarters guitar? strange...
4:23 say what!?
almost as good as mike nesmith
Greg is a better guitar player even than Ted Williams, famous not only as a baseball player but for having his head frozen after he died.
c9 blues manic......lol
I thought he ran for the hills.
Picked up CC #15 from the shack on his Way Back Home!
sickb2200 is that the Greg Martin
Yes it is, faded dirty lemon burst 1958 Les Paul. www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-Custom/Collectors-Choice-15-Greg-Martin-1958-Les-Paul.aspx
So people talk all night long ? Jeez
It even sounds thin on the neck pickup so when he switches to the bridge pickup its unbearable to listen to.But his a good guitar player but a little bit to hysterical when he plays fast.
Greg's choice of material is a bit boring...
