My 10x10 square foot bedroom is now worth up to $30,000? Damn! I can rent out each of the smaller rooms for the cost of my mom's first house, which has over 2,000 square feet of living space. Even more in the unfinished attic.

And the only thing you need to know is there is no affordable quality housing being built in America. Period. It's allllll a rip-off. America has declared war on affordable housing and we've lost. The end.... ....BUT, there is one way left. You have to save up and buy the land, the housing materials, and build it yourself from scratch. Sorry, but there is no other way. Everyone is complaining about housing for single people, but none of you seem actually interested in doing anything about it. Just letting oligarchs own it all while you blow your life savings on one of these large sheds (if any of you even have a savings). I'm working on the next year and a half to design a new type of house that I can build almost all of it on my own. Not using anything fancy (in fact, it's basically just going to be a boring rectangle). Just whatever Home Depot can supply me with. Yes, the price of lumber has skyrocketed, but it was cheap before and it's simply less cheap now. It doesn't include wall materials or outdoor wall materials. The cost of the framing is outrageous. You can get modular and tiny homes that cost about the same and includes all you need to live.
The certified plans are included that are needed to get permits etc. Those alone can cost hundreds or more. Building costs vary tremendously for the exact same materials. The country you are in, finishing materials, proximity to cities, etc. What may be “outrageous” to you may not be to others.
