An important note - I mentioned in the video that I additionally spray my CLOTH masks with alcohol. You don't want to spray the surgical masks as it might compromise the coating. I was accidentally holding a surgical mask while talking then switched to the cloth one to demo - so don't want to create confusion. Thank you to those who pointed this out!
Keeping your teeth brushed very frequently and using strong mouthwash helps kill bacteria in the mouth to aid in bacteria born moisture blowing back to the face. This has helped me a lot with my acne prone skin and mask wearing.
Thank you sooooo much for this! For the first time in my life I have the most ridiculous, painful and irritating acne that I developed almost overnight, and I realized that all of my acne is located only in areas that are covered by my mask. Thank you ❤️
As a critical care nurse, I am so thankful that you posted this. You’ve given me some ideas of things to pick up. Thank you so much! Ive reintroduced a BHA, Azeleic acid, which has helped calm and help with the breakouts.
Thank you from a nurse. I'm in a Facebook group for nurses with over 600k members and there are at least 10 posts a day about the issues/acne from wearing masks. We've dubbed it maskne. I will pass this information along to everyone. And your the first person I've seen talk about the new FAB arnica mask and the balm. Have been eyeing it up but couldn't find a review.
Thank you so much Renee for this video! I'm a healthcare worker who started wearing KN95 masks on a daily basis and it's been breaking out my skin so much.
I got my first breakout in decades just yesterday. Not sure why I didn’t put two and two together and realize its probably the mask. I was in tears thinking it might be one of my awesome (Gothamista approved) skincare items causing it. Thank you for this timely info!
Haha! I so relate to this - a couple of weeks ago I got my first breakout in years which I thought was due to hormones and covid stress but I'm realizing there were days in a row I was wearing a mask for hours. Everything's cleared up now.
This is another of your awesome and great videos!!!! I don't understand why you don't have over million subscribers. Thank you for all your great recommendations and please stay safe!
Contacted Cerave a while back and they confirmed SA Cleanser is 0.5% salicylic acid. Inkey List is more upfront which is nice so at least you know right from the packaging it’s 2% :)
playitlouda Well they’re both different in their approach since Cerave is more dry skin friendly while Inkey is better for oily complexions. Personally I prefer Cerave’s if I have to use an SA wash because I’m really sensitive to stronger cleansers. For my BHA needs I prefer leave-on products like the paula’s choice exfoliants.
Thank you so much for this info! When I contacted them, they gave me the standard, "We don't reveal that information to protect our formulas from being copied."
Thank you so much for your amazing quality content. I always learn something new. As per your recommendation, I purchased the two gua sha you used in your tutorial, and I LOVE THEM!!! I’m growing tired of the skincare community on UA-cam. All they do anymore are reaction videos. But you always offer amazing insight. Thank you
Gothamista, they are truly amazing! As soon as you said that acupressure relieves tmj and jaw tension, I knew I had to try it. I’m a college student and I struggle with anxiety and jaw and neck tension as a result.
Also a doctor here and have been using tretinoin during this covid period. This is great info, Renee. My skin is going throigh crazy itchiness. Hit pause on tretinoin and just bombarded my face with ceramides and its feeling less itchy!
@@quynhsubliminals4969 Good question. I've been using sunscreen underneath my mask, which must be worn throughout my whole shift, and I've been breaking out. Maybe it's the humidity trapped between my skin and mask?
I've been struggling so much since wearing masks. Over the years, I've gotten to know my skin and know exactly what ingredients to use based on how my skin is acting or what time of the month it is. But, it's not working well enough rn. So, thanks for this video!
Another skin condition that can be related to mask wearing is angular cheilitis. It occurs in one or both corners of the mask and can be painful, itchy, and cause cracking of the skin. I started getting it in the right corner of my mouth and have been treating it with tea tree oil and a healing balm. Thanks for sharing this video and providing helpful info!
Thank you soooo very much for doing this research. Myself and my coworkers have been discussing how our faces are breaking out ever since we have been wearing protection masks. To see this video? This was so beyond informative and appreciated. I kept putting the video on hold as I was googling and clicking the links to the products mentioned so that I can buy them. Thank youuuu 🙌🏻

Hi Renee, can you make a video for rosacea prone skin one day? Our skin couldnt tolerate preservatives and product with high humectant, thus its difficult for us to find a good product. i myself personally find comfort in facial oil but its just not enough. Even after washing with just plain water twice a day, our skin feels dry and stripped.
I'm a stay and home Mom and now more than ever I almost never go out and when I do, the mask really irritated the skin on my chin so I'm taking better care and using salicylic 2% BHA Paula's Choice at night
Thank YOU! Offering tips is seriously the least I can do - I really hope they can help ease the discomfort. Perhaps for your forehead apply some cicaplast, balm that might protect your skin without causing it to slip and slide around.
I just shared this with me sister who works in the healthcare field & has been talking about how wearing masks everyday have started irritating her skin. Thank you
Been using benzoyl peroxide 2.5% whilst i sleep. Been helping me contain acne on my cheeks due to masks wearing...the weather in singapore is so humid..sigh.
Please please please reply me...can i use klairs freshly juiced vitamin serum and top it up with innisfree cherry blossom gel cream???? I mean can i use them at the same time?????
I’ve been using face masks for work for 6 years and I never realized it is the mask causing the acne on my chin and the dermatitis. I’ve been using panoxyl to dry up my acne and hydrocort for the dermatitis.
I was just thinking about this. I just developed hormonal acne in March and I deal with perioral dermatitis from time to time. The b5 cream sounds good!

Our skin couldnt tolerate preservatives and product with high humectant, thus its difficult for us to find a good product. i myself personally find comfort in facial oil but its just not enough. Even after washing with just plain water twice a day, our skin feels dry and stripped.
Where is your mask from?
I'm also curious, I like the look
I'm a stay and home Mom and now more than ever I almost never go out and when I do, the mask really irritated the skin on my chin so I'm taking better care and using salicylic 2% BHA Paula's Choice at night
Does it help?
Thank you from a healthcare worker. Along with mask acne I get irritation along my forehead with the face shields. Will try these!
Thank you
Great, I hope she finds the tips helpful and can give her skin some relief!
Much needed topic♡
Yes I realized they make my face itch. I take them off as soon as I exit a store. I just can’t 😩
Been using benzoyl peroxide 2.5% whilst i sleep. Been helping me contain acne on my cheeks due to masks wearing...the weather in singapore is so humid..sigh.
Singapore is indeed soooo humid!
I am in Singapore too and came here because I had my first spots in years. The rub point on the nose pinch area is my problem area.
Please please please reply me...can i use klairs freshly juiced vitamin serum and top it up with innisfree cherry blossom gel cream????
I mean can i use them at the same time?????
Thank you so much Renee!!!
Yes , Renee💕
this is what I need 👍
I’ve been using face masks for work for 6 years and I never realized it is the mask causing the acne on my chin and the dermatitis. I’ve been using panoxyl to dry up my acne and hydrocort for the dermatitis.
Thank you both! Stay well!
Great advice on skincare! But please do not spray alcohol on a surgical mask, it will ruin the mask's filtering power.
Just what I was looking for, thank you!
I was just thinking about this. I just developed hormonal acne in March and I deal with perioral dermatitis from time to time. The b5 cream sounds good!
