F I N A L L Y Someone makes a video about this. I clicked so fast. y'all don't know the struggle. LITERALLY nothing worked. I hope the products in the video does.
Same nothing has ever worked for my skin i have lots of skin colored bumps on my forehead and my cheeks constantly breaks out with pimples. This product actually works. Within 1 use u can really see the difference in your skin. My skin started peeling and became really dry and dehydrated for some reason and i used this product and my face brush and washed for 30 seconds on each side and i could literally tell the difference in one use. My skin looked like it had shed a layer and i noticed that my acne wasn’t “hidden” under my skin it was on the surface now. The second day i used it didn’t see much of a change as this had already brought everything to the surface but my skin was hydrated and literally glowing!! I also cannot use chemical sunscreens as they are actually huge contributors to my acne. If I moisturize well underneath, I actually find physical blocks with silicone in them to help seal in the moisture. Crazy how different everybody’s skin is! YMMV indeed.
It's crazy how similar our skin is! I cannot use chemical sunscreen at all I've tried all the hyped ones from Bioderma to Klairs every single one broke me out and I've been responding really well to silicon based products like The ordinary azaleic acid suspension and BHA breaks me out every time
HangSang Ralte Have you tried the Australian Gold Botanical tinted sunscreen? Some people find it drying but to me it is HG status!! And literally the only sunscreen in 20 years of trying that doesn’t give me acne which is kind of pathetic lol. Wait...not true. Supergoop CC is another good one but the AG has higher SPF 🥳
I’m the same! Been thinking about using BP lately just not that excited about all the bleaching. I 100% agree with what you said about mineral sunscreens! Have you tried the one from clinique? That’s what I’m using right now and I reslly enjoy it

Everyone loves Paula’s choice. I tried the gel & liquid versions many times. Each time I ended up w so many bumps under my skin. I don’t get clogged pores easily bc my pores are so small. I also think ahas are super helpful to me bc they hydrate so much as well.
Me too. I didn't like it at all. I've also tried the la roche posay toleriane moisturizer and it broke me out really bad. It's just so hard to find something that works for my skin
for those of you who can't afford the paula's choice bha exfoliant, the cerave SA cleanser is another great bha option that's gentle but also effective. i have dry, acne-prone skin and i've followed p much the same tips renee mentioned here-- simplifying your routine, layering hydration, etc., it's worked wonders for me, and i rarely if ever break out now. if i do, it's usually related to my diet more than anything else (look into anti-inflammatory diets as well, it makes a huge, huge difference) good luck everyone!
I always assumed I had oily skin because of my acne issues. But I recently realized my skin is actually dry. So now I’m totally confused on what to do about my skin care routine. Thank you for this video.
Thought I was the only one w this skin type! I get hormonal breakouts after a lifetime of clear skin.. And also get clogged pores easily from certain products. Thank you!
Dr. Sam’s devotee here 🙋🏻♀️ had adult acne, started a Tret+Clynd treatment at night and dapzone in the am. My dr. Told me to use Cerave cleanser and moisturizer but when I switched to dr. Sam’s cleanser I really felt a difference. Love her whole line! ❤️
I finally went on spironlactone a couple of years ago to control my hormonal acne. Before that I was always struggling with my acne but with dry skin too. Boy I wish this video had been around then!
I don’t know why but the 2% Paula’s choice BHA dries out my skin SO MUCH, even in the summer. Definitely not moisturizing at all for me, after a few hours my skin is extremely flakey around my mouth and chin.
Yeah I was surprised she can use that and sometimes without a moisturiser (in the summer) if she has dry skin. That product is so drying for my skin, I only use it on my noisy which is a bit oily.
Carli Ewert This PC 2% salicylic acid ruined my skin! Be very careful. It worked for break out for 2 or three weeks, then the break outs came back. Besides this it cracked my skin all over the face, it gave me hundreds of fine micro lines across the face like a chessboard! My skin got paperthin, you could see every blackhead coming up like under a microscope. It took me month to heal my skin somewhat! It contains tons of alcoholic (non ethanol) solvents, I think they are very aggressive on the skin.
thank you for validating how i feel about zinc oxide!!! i spent so much money on a doctor recommended mineral sunscreen and god did i try to make it work for my dry skin but it just sucked out all the moisture in my skin no matter how much moisturised or hyaluronic acid i put on before hand. now i've switched to synthetic sunscreen and my skin is so much better!
I know recently you skin has changed being home with the virus...so has mine. It’s dry and now has acne which I usually ever have. Thank you so much for this video. I so appreciate it. Happy for you that your skin is now more normal.
I went on accutane for 8 months and before that, my skin was as oily as a fryer. Now, my face is dry and I don’t breakout at all but I get the occasional bump because of my unhealthy diet and because I touch my face a lot so I really want to make a skin routine that works for my face now and is still gentle. This is very helpful. Thank you!
I have dehydrated, sensitive but acne-prone skin with fungal acne, here's my routine: Hada Labo mild and sensitive skin face wash, Hada Labo hydrating lotion or the premium version, the ordinary squalane and SPF (I like the cosrx ones). At night, I use Benton BHA toner and a sleeping mask; I use the green tea one from innisfree
YGhappyvirus Have the same skin type, but I hated the Ordinary’s 100% squalane. It does not absorb, it is very oily and just sits there. It makes my skin look awful the next morning and also adds some slight redness. I also feel it triggers blemishes on my skin.
I have dry acne prone skin and I have to be careful to use Paula’s choice exfoliant only a few times a week. When I used it too often, the immediate moisturising feeling tricked me into thinking it wasn’t drying but four days of back to back use my skin would be SO dry
OMG YES! The usual advice for oily skin is a gentle cleanser and light gel moisturisers. But my skin feels soooo uncomfortable with only light gels. As if there's tension.
Creators like you and like Nadine Baggot actually give amazing solutions for skin, and real life solutions. Most other so called "influencers" are only interested in having you purchase more makeup not solving problems that we all have. Bravo to the two of you!!
I have found that Acne Free’s 2.5% benzoyl peroxide is perfect for my dry skin. Not too drying but actually finally helped with tiny little white heads I get in my tzone. I love it.
Paula's choice BHA is very drying. And not moisturizing at all. If you've got dry/acne skin, I'd recommend a facewash with salasylic acid in it, used every second night. That way it washes off, and doesn't exfoliate the skin quite as much as a leave on BHA, like Paula's choice.
I know it's the worst I get these God awful painful small under the skin acne on my jaw bone and cheeks this winter from my Hormones being crazy. 😑 3 months of clear skin then winter came and ruined it all
Totally feel your pain. The last 1 1/2 my skin has been freaking out. Started on tretinoin over a year ago, and little improvement. Thinking of removing my mirena, since that seemed to be the catalyst for me.
For me was stopping BC, I have a copper iud now and boy my body is still getting its game straight. It's a bit of a long process but only 4 months passed so just need to keep my skincare simple and soothing while it goes to its normal condition (I hope)
Guys i have had hormonal cystic acne for almost 2 years now And what has finally helped mine clear up is using Differin at night and then Benzoyl Peroxide in the morning My face looks better now than it has in a long time
THANK YOU!!! THIS is what I've been looking for, usually all the tips on how to get rid of acne are targeted towards people with oily skin but I have acne and atopic dermatitis so I have to use heavier creams for that but at the same time I get acne and all the acne treatments are drying my skin so it's really hard
For giant under-the-skin pimples, I use the microneedle/dots from Rael. They are about $1 per patch on Amazon and come in a 9-pack. They are pricey but they really take care of deep zits. The microneedles are made up of actives that help get rid of the swelling, redness and overall inflammation. Even though my skin is finally clear, I keep a set of these just in case because they are miracle workers.
I actually went from using Dermalogica, a whole range of skincare, to a very simple drugstore one. My skin is looking and feeling great! I'm so surprised! Nivea Glow eyemakeup remover, Garnier milky micellar cleanser, Neutral toner and Dr.Greve sensitive face cream. I bought everything at the supermarket here in Norway and the face cream, is one of the BEST ones I've EVER tried! I still use the eye cream from Dermalogica tho. But this is the only stuff I've been using for two weeks now and I can't remember my skin has been this balances and good looking for years.
I used to think this was a super rare skin issue to have because no one was talking about it. I spent ages battling with this, through years of defeat, and finally found a skincare routine that's very outside of the box, but which works well for me. Some the stuff I use is actually what you recommend in this video, and I agree about being careful with harsh chemicals, but some of what I use goes against your advice. All in all I use a mild perfume free face wash, a "3-in-1" cleanser/moisturizer/scrub for the low amount of salisylic acid in it plus it's a great second wash and pre-moisturizer so I like it actually because it does all 3 things kinda poorly, a random face scrub, baby oil, aftershave, aloe vera gel and beard oil, for my entire face on an (almost) daily basis. A lot of products (seven, not counting additional beard care and shaving products I don't use for my entire face) and a lot of steps but it's been clearing up my acne as well as giving life back to my previously very crusty skin. Breakouts on dry skin is a long term issue for me and not just something that happens on occasion. I've always had acne but since I reached my late 20's a few years ago I dried up like a raisin but the acne persisted at the same time. So I dunno really what could be causing it. It seems I may have gotten myself some chronic dehydration which probably contributes to it though (like my whole body struggles to hold onto water, ie moist) and then maybe some hormonal issues additionally.
omg! the zinc! i just started using a 16% and couldn't find what was irritating my skin. I'll stop it for now and see if my breakouts/irritated skin gets better
I have dry, acne prone skin. The toleraine cleanser is my go-to for a couple years now, and I’ve had phenomenal results from the Paula’s choice Bha in conjunction with my tretinoin and cerave moisturizing cream. Great recommendations!
Rarely have breakouts anymore, thank goodness, but always good to know, which products work just in case. Love the propolis serum, need to reorder that one!
Oh my gosh! I used a zinc sunscreen over Christmas every single day and couldn’t figure out why my skin was getting patched and irritated! I switched back to a non-zinc and after about a week my battier was back and my skin was better. It’s so sad though because that zinc one feels lovely when first applied!
Thank you so much for the video. I have dehydrated skin that is both dry and oily, with severe inflammatory acne and some cystic acne. I’ve been watching videos and trying products for years, and your conclusions and tips are very similar to mine. I love seeing this, because good advice like this really isn’t out there. If you have acne, the advice generally is to be as harsh and stripping as possible 🤦🏼♀️
Thank you!!! Finally someone does a video on this topic. I use the products you are talking about, bc I have dry and acne prone skin, and have success! I find that moisturizing helps my acne, a lot! Thanks for the vid!
Thank you for this video!!! Also, do you have any interest in doing a video about actually good quality cannabidol skin care products? I know you’ve used the Saint Jane serum, have you tried any others? Paulas choice came out with one I’ve been thinking about trying! Super interested to hear your take on them also omg I thought my astigmatisms was going crazy at :11 seconds in
Hi Liz! Probably the best I tried is the Lord Jones products. In particular their 1000mg oil - I talked about how it actually got rid of the carpal tunnel in my fingers. I was in disbelief. Their body oil is exquisite too. The Paula’s choice cbd milk is also a beautiful emulsion serum!!
Gothamista thank you so much for your response! I have complex regional pain syndrome and chronic facial inflammation and rosacea so it seems like it could really help, but I’ve only tried the Saint Jane serum and sadly something in it really irritated my skin so I’ve been very carefully trying to find the actual best of the best and the Paula’s choice milk looks like it could even cancel out some of my other steps because of all the other great ingredients it has in it! I’ve been meaning to get a sample of the Lord Jones oil too. So glad they have your seal of approval! Thanks for the info!
Thank you for another informative video! I love Paul's Choice BHA liquid in the black bottle. I used to hate it because of the "greasy" film it leaves on my skin. BUT, as I've gotten older I am loving it because I still battle adult acne and love a nice exfoliant plus a little hydration.
Thank you so much for this video! The last year I suffered from mild adult acne and I finally started to take medication for it. The acne has gone, red spots are left along the jawline but I feel so much better already. My skin became really dry, and my saviours were all things ginseng plus the Midnight blue calming cream and the drops. I started now with a 0.2 derma roller and I already see how much its helping. Could you do a video on skincare gadgets you use? That would be awesome!
It's a fantastic video! Thanks! Lately I've been researching about fungal acne and I'm actually quite confused and I'm questioning everything. Could you make a video to explain things better(acne Vs fungi)?
This was exactly what I was looking for! I don't know if I really have acne, but I have lots of tiny black and white heads, and because of that I wanted to start using Salicylic Acid. However, since most people say it helps reduce oil production, I thought it wouldn't be that good for my skin which has the tendency for being dry. But now I'm decided on getting that PAula's Choice Salicylic Acid :D Thank you for the video! :)
@@maryammohamed12 It hasn't. It's really hard for me to get my hands on it in my country. I decided to try the Inkey List BHA Serum, which based on reviews does the same thing and it is also not drying. Plus it's cheaper. I haven't tried it yet, because it's out of stock, but I'll buy it as soon as it becomes available.
Thank you for sharing this!! I live in the AZ desert, working outside cleaning 85 pools a week. My skin has been a battle of dryness & white heads all over. I’ve been eating plant based since the new year, so my skin has cleared up a bit from that but I would love to see it 99% clear. 🙏🏼 Appreciate the product list!
Thanks so much for the video. Some day, I would love to see a video from you about storing skincare. I keep mine in a closed drawer in the bathroom and I still worry about them being in there.
Dry skin and acne...I have been using Benzamycin twice a day and Retin A at night for 20+ years. Both are RX medications. Any deviation and the acne comes back. I would love ideas on where to use the Benzamycin in my am/pm skin care routines. My dermatologist is either too young or not interested in helping me... I am 66 and my skin probably looks 45 or so so a nice side effect of the Retin A...always looking for other actives or just humectants with a nice mild fragrance to sooth and hydrate my skin..Love this channel for that...No...mild fragrance has nothing to do with MY acne issues.
Thank you I've been suffering for weeks. My skin is normally super oily so when it became dry and flaky I had no clue how to treat it and unfortunately made it worse.
hi!! i have acne prone skin and i have dealt with acne on my cheeks (occasionally chin) for a couple of years. recently my skin pretty much cleared up and while i am VERY pleased, i still have acne scars that i do not know how to get rid of. i use a la Roche posay cleanser with my hands only, then the stone crop mist toner on some cotton swabs (not sure what it does, but i like the hydration and refreshing feeling), then i use a tretinoin cream (derma recommended), and finish with cetaphil moisturizer. i have really dry skin, but also can get very oily on my T zone, so not sure if that is combination skin or just dry. i think my routine has really worked for me except my moisturizer is not strong enough and i would like a more hydrating one. i hate fragrances btw and they make my face break out a lot so i tend to stay away from fragrance in my routine. i heard some good things about first aid beauty moisturizer, la Roche posay's, skinceuticals triple lipid restore, and cerave's moisturizer. keep in mind my skin is very acne-prone and I'm not sure which i should use or which to stay away from. also i want to change out my toner with the AHA/BHA exfoliant from paulas choice (not sure about the difference between AHA and BHA or which is better for my skin.) i also want to try the ordinary niacinamide serum and a CE ferulic vitamin E serum, but not sure where that should go in my routine or if i even should use it at all. also, i do not use face masks because they make me break out so if you have any gentle, fragrance free, and hydrating face masks i could use for extra hydration once a week that would be great! Thank you so much for the video. it was very very helpful!!
Great advice as always! I’m super stressed and it’s showing, so I’m going to focus on retinol and BHA as actives during the week, and skin barrier protection and sunscreen during the day. Curiously, the only time my skin has gotten really irritated was after using a high percentage zinc oxide sunscreen. I use chemical sunscreens ever since.
Thanks for this video! Despite this winter not being or feeling so cold or harsh so far (Mid-Atlantic), my skin has been extra dry and spazzing out recently as a result. Looking forward to the one on sunscreen for dry skin :)
Renee, would you ever think of asking as a consulting skincare expert for others on a personal basis? I keep thinking it would be helpful for others to have you work your magic on them and for us to see those videos. Like you and Samantha Ravendahl. Just an idea.
I love you so much for doing this video!! My skin has been unexpectedly very dry this winter while also remaining acne prone and you gave some really useful advice that i will be definitely taking into account. Thank you!!

I cannot stress enough how much I love the toleriane cleanser, a skin saviour for sure.
I love it.
I switched to the PC bha 2% and LRP cleanser and moisturizer last month, while using retinol (breakouts and dry skin) and it worked like magic
Who can vouch that the paula’s choice liquid exfoliant has really helped their skin?
This has certainly been me. Thank you hormonal imbalance!!
I'm here for the hormonal imbalance, at times I have no idea what is going on with my skin anymore.
I know it's the worst I get these God awful painful small under the skin acne on my jaw bone and cheeks this winter from my Hormones being crazy. 😑
3 months of clear skin then winter came and ruined it all
Totally feel your pain.
Guys i have had hormonal cystic acne for almost 2 years now And what has finally helped mine clear up is using Differin at night and then Benzoyl Peroxide in the morning My face looks better now than it has in a long time
This video is exactly what I needed. My whole live I have had oily/combo acne prone skin. As of the last few months my skin has become dry acne prone.
Finally!!! Someone who understands my 'weird' skin!
Just recently bought Lion Pair Acne cream from Japan and it's been really good in calming down any inflammation. It's super cheap too!
Yay! Finally someone acknowledges this. I have such a hard time finding products for my super dry acne prone skin. You’re the best.
This was very helpful thank you!!! For awhile I thought there was no way I could treat acne AND moisturize at the same time. Life saver!!
You have great skin... I can't see you having any acne problems and it doesn't seem like you even suffer from any acne scars. Great info!
dry skin squad member here tfs
This works wonderfully for me with oily but acneiac and dehydrated skin in winter.
Finally someone made a video about it... Thank u ... Please make more videos about dry but acne prone skin
Thanks
My skin was like “chapped” from the winter or because my face wash! Especially my cheeks
omg! the zinc! i just started using a 16% and couldn't find what was irritating my skin. I'll stop it for now and see if my breakouts/irritated skin gets better
Yyyeesss! Thank you for this. I’ve been struggling so much with my dry skin with acne.
Hope this helps Kate!
I have dry, acne prone skin. The toleraine cleanser is my go-to for a couple years now, and I’ve had phenomenal results from the Paula’s choice Bha in conjunction with my tretinoin and cerave moisturizing cream. Great recommendations!
Oohh I need it! Currently breaking out and yet my skin is so dry and dehydrated 😖
Check if you have damaged skin barrier
Rarely have breakouts anymore, thank goodness, but always good to know, which products work just in case. Love the propolis serum, need to reorder that one!
Oh my gosh! I used a zinc sunscreen over Christmas every single day and couldn’t figure out why my skin was getting patched and irritated! I switched back to a non-zinc and after about a week my battier was back and my skin was better. It’s so sad though because that zinc one feels lovely when first applied!
Kyanne Marie samee but zinc is the only type that doesn’t break me out
Thank you so much for the video. I have dehydrated skin that is both dry and oily, with severe inflammatory acne and some cystic acne. I’ve been watching videos and trying products for years, and your conclusions and tips are very similar to mine. I love seeing this, because good advice like this really isn’t out there. If you have acne, the advice generally is to be as harsh and stripping as possible 🤦🏼♀️
it me
💜 ya!
I’m late but I’m glad that I found this video. Like someone can finally describe my skin.
Thank you for this video!!! I have been dying for a video like this. Not many people talk about this skin type 😭
Thats awesome thank you. Please do a video on oily skin care too.
Okay but this video is really good omg
Can’t live without that skin perfecting 2% BHA 🙌
Thank you!!! Finally someone does a video on this topic. I use the products you are talking about, bc I have dry and acne prone skin, and have success! I find that moisturizing helps my acne, a lot! Thanks for the vid!
Thank you for this video!!! Also, do you have any interest in doing a video about actually good quality cannabidol skin care products? I know you’ve used the Saint Jane serum, have you tried any others? Paulas choice came out with one I’ve been thinking about trying! Super interested to hear your take on them
also omg I thought my astigmatisms was going crazy at :11 seconds in
Always love your videos Renée!
But where's the Cartier?
Thank you for this! I have dry skin with adult acne. Can’t wait to try some of these products out!
But now I'm decided on getting that PAula's Choice Salicylic Acid :D
Thank you for the video! :)
Hi. Having the same dilemma. Want to get the paulas choice but scared of dry skin. What has been your experience?
@@maryammohamed12 It hasn't. It's really hard for me to get my hands on it in my country. I decided to try the Inkey List BHA Serum, which based on reviews does the same thing and it is also not drying. Plus it's cheaper. I haven't tried it yet, because it's out of stock, but I'll buy it as soon as it becomes available.
This is amazing!!
I was going to request this video from you and Louis and behold it’s here. Thanks a ton
You have great recommendations. Thank you so much!!
I shared this video with my sister SO fast! Thank you!
Paula’s choice is really coming through. . ❤️
does it help dry skin
Yay! Watching! Thank you for making this!!
Wonderful video! You are so knowledgeable. Thank you for sharing.
I want to see a wardrobe collection of Renee please
I admire your sense of style
it is chic, elegant but simple at the same time
Please Renee
Thank you I've been suffering for weeks. My skin is normally super oily so when it became dry and flaky I had no clue how to treat it and unfortunately made it worse.
we need cheaper products version
Can you give a morning and night routine for dry/acne skin please 😊😊😊😊😊😊 it would be super helpful
hi!! i have acne prone skin and i have dealt with acne on my cheeks (occasionally chin) for a couple of years. recently my skin pretty much cleared up and while i am VERY pleased, i still have acne scars that i do not know how to get rid of. i use a la Roche posay cleanser with my hands only, then the stone crop mist toner on some cotton swabs (not sure what it does, but i like the hydration and refreshing feeling), then i use a tretinoin cream (derma recommended), and finish with cetaphil moisturizer. i have really dry skin, but also can get very oily on my T zone, so not sure if that is combination skin or just dry. i think my routine has really worked for me except my moisturizer is not strong enough and i would like a more hydrating one. i hate fragrances btw and they make my face break out a lot so i tend to stay away from fragrance in my routine. i heard some good things about first aid beauty moisturizer, la Roche posay's, skinceuticals triple lipid restore, and cerave's moisturizer. keep in mind my skin is very acne-prone and I'm not sure which i should use or which to stay away from. also i want to change out my toner with the AHA/BHA exfoliant from paulas choice (not sure about the difference between AHA and BHA or which is better for my skin.) i also want to try the ordinary niacinamide serum and a CE ferulic vitamin E serum, but not sure where that should go in my routine or if i even should use it at all. also, i do not use face masks because they make me break out so if you have any gentle, fragrance free, and hydrating face masks i could use for extra hydration once a week that would be great! Thank you so much for the video. it was very very helpful!!
Thank you for talking about dry acne prone skin, that’d me in a nutshell and it’s very rarely talked about! So this was great 🥰
Can't wait for the winter sunscreen video. This video was very helpful, as always, thank you Renee.
As far as i know, she doesn’t have any expertise. She’s talking from anecdotal experience.
Great suggestions Renee. Thanks!
Renee! I’ve missed you.
Thank you love 💕
Hooray! I definitely need this video it’s so hard to figure out what to do with this combination thanks 😊
I know it!! 😘💕
You never here acne dry skin, but I’m here because you never here dehydrated oily skin 😤
That polyphenol gave me a big acne. Hence I gave to my mom. I've learned that it could also be an irritant and polyphenol can vary batch by batch.
I love you so much for doing this video!! My skin has been unexpectedly very dry this winter while also remaining acne prone and you gave some really useful advice that i will be definitely taking into account. Thank you!!
