You answered the question at 0:39. All of these 2.0 ecoboost engines sound like this from day one. I have a 2014 that just reached 100k with no issues...yet.
For anyone out there wondering what this sounds means. I brought this up to my buddy and mechanic (one of the good ones) and he went on a drive with me in my Focus ST. He asked me to point out the noise and asked questions and gave descriptions of the individual noises he hear, until we landed on the same noise. In short, it’s normal. Every focus or eco engine powered Ford seems to do it. Listen next time to you see a newer Ford driving down a city street. Eventually you’ll know a Ford without even looking. Hope that helps.
Just as a caution, take in note that harmonic balancer has no key ways and require special tools to time that engine. If you attempt to gun off that harmonic balancer bolt you can bend valves if the timing tools are not installed. And also what is with ford and stupid stretch belts.
I've got a 1.0 Ecoboost in my Fiesta, and it doesn't make any noise like this - it's got it's own fun noises and crazy shake. This is a job for FordTechMakuloco...
I’m sure Scotty could help. But I’m afraid he’s in the middle of a beef with Chris fix right now. Arguing over the best way to restore headlights . First world problems...meanwhile this Ford is having much bigger issues.
hahaha I just watched Scotty's headlight video today! He is pretty convincing. I've been using that Meguars headlight kit and clearcoat spray for a year or so...seems to work well :)
I figure it's a timing chain issue--possibly the chain has rubbed through the plastic shoe on the tensioner even though it is a "low mileage" engine. It seems that noisy engines are commonplace today with turbocharging and direct injection.
One of the hardest jobs in car repair, is to identify the location of a noise. Sometimes its temperature related or humidty related but just try and find the whereabouts, nearly impossible. The stethoscope is ok for amplifying the sound, but as it travels through different mediums, its useless for locating. I would put it on the same "pull yer hair out " level as a water leak. Good luck with finding the source and if you appear bald on your next video, we'll all understand !!
You are absolutely spot on with this, it definitely isn’t easy to really identify some kinda of noise or concern with vehicles & sometimes it takes throwing parts at a vehicle to make a problem go away.
Its the wastegate/wastegate actuator on the turbo. My wife's 2.0 ecoboost edge had the same problem from early on. I looked and looked and looked, finally the actuator stopped working and we lost all boost/threw a code. Took it in to Ford, they found it, replaced the turbo.
Dude I have been trying to figure that out for 4 years now. Definitely not metal rubbing. It would have broke by now if it was grinding. But agreed ford knows what the defect is and as long as it last the life of the warranty (which they know it will, good luck on trade in value) they are safe. I know it is something with air and echo (harmonics) so won't affect engine but very inconvenient when you're in a ally and it sounds like your wheel is about to lock up any second
Sounds like two different sounds to me. Maybe I'm hearing wrong but the idle sound stays the same and is joined by a different higher pitch sound when you revved the engine.
The only thing I can think of, is the crank pulley may have a split hub where it bolts onto the crankshaft. Try spraying water on it and see if the sound changes in pitch.
Ford DuraTech engines in particular are notorious for water pump noise, and it's the water pump in the bore. Take the stretch belt off and see if it goes away. If it goes away, then obviously A/C Compressor. If not, I'd look at the harmonic balancer, crankshaft, or turbo .

That's just the way they run. They all do that. I beleive it was the AC compressor bearings or some another pump that does it but every escape I hear sounds like this. Our brand new escape even does this.
thank you mr ivan hope new job is going as planned. you have made me wear out 2 volt meters lol joking you did teach me put down the wrenches pick up a meter thank you again. had to tell you and the world just got my new lift running a Edwards 12k four post lift. yesterday did 2 fuel pump tank drop style in 4 hrs and safely this lift goes 76 inches high to the ramps alot of safety fixtures i like it alot thk you again for your videos my cousins and uncle in Lansing ny found this lift.
Seems same as my 2015 Escape Titanium I bought used with over a 100,000 miles. My nephew said it is normal for these engines and since he changes oil and tires for a living, I just have a very nice remote start but loud sassy Lassie!! 😎
Hey Ivan, I work at a Ford dealership. I've never seen a harmonic balancer replaced for that type of noise. We do have issues with a metallic rattle coming from the Watergate on the turbocharger. Hopefully that helps.
I know at the dealership that I work at we have a lot of f150 trucks with the 3.5 eco boost engines coming in with blown engines from the waste gate actuators and over boosting
William And If you work at a ford dealership, what are your thoughts on the current explorers with the 3.5 duratec. I've heard it's a very reliable engine but I wanted to hear your experience.
I honestly like the 3.5 and the explorers even with the issues the police interceptors are having I have heard of internal water pump failure on an edge withe 3.5 but never an explorer
William And Yeah I heard of that happening to 1 explorer owner online, but just one lol. It seems like the water pump failure is a pretty uncommon issue and I believe they changed some compont with the engine in 2012, I believe they changed something about the timing chain and some people were saying this may have helped with this issue. I'm not sure if that's the case, or how changing the timing chain would help immprove the water pump, but that's what some people are saying.

This sound is eerily similar to the noise my Nissan Rogue makes, but it has to be underload or revved, could it have something to do with the variable valve timing on these smaller modern engines? Like they’re advancing the timing way ahead of ignition causing a rattle?
Unscientific, non-mechanic opinion... but Ivan, that noise sounds somewhat familiar. I've heard other Escapes do that, and the noise is a little more acute on even the naturally aspirated 2.0L Focuses in the current/outgoing generation. I've just written that off as a character trait of some of Ford's direct injected designs. Your company's ride might be a little louder than most with that, but that's really hard to tell through the camera. Safe travels on that roadtrip.
The harmonic balancers do go bad sometimes, I have seen a couple of videos on Peugeots on this side of the pond 😀. When it gets worse, it will reveal itself I suppose. Keep up the good videos Ivan
My 2013 sounds like that, if I use 87, I thought it was the injectors. I tried cleaning my injectors with 2 bottles of Lucas in 2 different fillup cycles. I also changed my oil and it seems to have quieted down a bit.
Have a 2013 escape..I have a master mechanic in the family his is working on it now. He is saying that noise is the water pump..I also have put coolant in it at least 2 times a month...
@@ulrichtravels same noise on 2014 focus se 2.0L , just replaced the water pump due to failed seal and/or bearing and the noise is still there, so the water pump can be ruled out. something else is making that annoying noise...
Noticed a bit of audio to that reluctor ring when you twanged it with your thumbnail, wonder if that isn't the part doing the talking? Could slob in some RTV in a heavy bead, let it set up and see if a dramatic change was in the cards. In any event one would then be faced with the prospect of digging it back out of a pretty tight spot to never really get that job done proper. Not a serious suggestion then, but I would always be wondering about the best way to silence that ringing reluctor.
So this got me thinking. Short of buying an NVH anylazer.....ive seen a couple of phone apps that claimed to be able to determine the frequency of a noise. Might make a good video. Keep up the good work Ivan.
I have a 2013 Ford escape 2.0 ecoboost. Mine makes the same exact noise. I have 32,000 miles. I bought mine used with 25,000 and was already making that noise. I'm curious myself if it's normal.
Sounds like the good old tensioner pulley sound, use to work at a Ford dealership in the service department, I have a 2014 Ford Escape titanium with the 2.0 eco boost and before anything went wrong I went aftermarket with the turbo, waste gate , blow off valve etc same with the break system, I went with drilled and slotted rotors high performance ceramic pads and upgraded the suspension with coilovers not to lower or modify anything but so the struts and shocks wouldn’t go out so fast , believe it or not the FsWorks turbo kit For the 2012 to 2016 ford focus ST or RS will work on the 2.0 eco boost engine without having to ref lash or program anything.
I'd be interested to know more about this, plus your thoughts on the car in general. Lots of negative comments here about Ford but I've owned the 2013 model for a few years and it's been very good although I did need to replace the rear shocks. I've just been keeping up with the maintenance myself.
Does it have a integral pulley built into the balancer? I had a ranger that the rubber became un-bonded between the outer pulley and the inner drive portion of the balancer and it was slipping causing that noise and it eventually walked backwards taking out the crankshaft sensor.
Had my 2018 two weeks and took it back to the dealer. They said they all sound like that. He started two new ones on the lot and they both made the same noise.
Sounds like something rubbing on a seal. I'll have to listen to mine. I don't think I have that sound. Just a chirp from the alternator when it's cold. No oil leaking down there?
Sounds like the piece of thin metal they put over the exhaust header ( heat shield ), about the right sound, One screw is very loose and it is vibrating. Sometimes the noise will go away when it gets warmed up.
Ivan --Why don;t you put a vibration sniffer on there??? You might have one somewhere??? Jam a bar on the balancer while its running to see if you can make it change pitch?
That's definitely the Harmonic balancer.Mine did the sound for months until it didn't want to go into third gear.Checked the balancer visually, and it was damaged over time.112900 miles.
Would it be a drive belt ( fan belts ) noise. Quick test, spray a little water on the belt pulley(s) I'm know that a 'polished ' belt surface can make some strange sounds too. I heard what you said about the idler and bet etc. but belts do make some strange sounds sometimes.
hmm did not change much with the revs up either, strange scraaping metal sound, just keep driving it i'm sure it will reveal itself sooner or much later.
Pull oil pan. Runout dial indicator on the crankshaft, check for end play (thrust). Check crank/cam sprockets/cogs are tight. Check between HB & timing cover for shiny wear.
I have a 2013. When it starts. Starts the same but the engine sounds like a loud purr also. Been trying to see if that's normal with escapes or what. I'm very cautious with my car since I'm a new owner and my first car. Have to pay 4 years left. Hoping she'll make it.
So the heat shield on my 2016 escape near the exhaust is busted and kinda hanging. Should I replace it? Or just have it removed? Is it important? Can removing it cause any future damages ?
We have a 2014 Ford Escape and the noise is deafening under the hood! This has stumped about 7 mechanics!!! Most every part has been replaced such as the bearings, rotars, the engine taken apart, the Turbo replaced and on and on. Please...we are desperate for answers!!!
Maybe it's just me and my eyes, but it almost looked like the balancer was wobbling in your vid, at a certain rpm. Are there any signs that it might be separating and walking off like the old 4.0s did? You're probably not old enough to know, but way back in the day, Ford had problems with their 2.3 Tempo/Topaz engines making metallic noises in the frt of the engine, with little to no observable failure. The fix was to replace the balancer. Keep us posted.
Let us know if you find out anything.. I have a customer with a '16 Escape Eco snort that she bought new, and within the last 5 k it has gotten very noisy. She changes the oil at every 4k with Mobile 1 synthetic and is really a little ol lady.. So I was thinking at 1st, this thing needs a decarb.. I sent it to a friend's shop that has the new 3m fogging system, 3 bottle process. By the seat of the pants, it seems to have more power, better response, BUT the noise is still there! Ford is claiming 'this is normal'.. I say, that going from a quiet engine to 1 that sounds like a diesel, is NOT..
I have a 2014 Ford Escape 2.0 ecoboost. It stutters and stumbles and chirps a few times as you're rolling on the throttle slowly. If I punch it wide open throttle it'll downshift take off drive like it's supposed to but when I'm just trying to drive normal I'm getting this chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp chirp from the intake side and then when I let off the throttle I get the blow off valve sound from the opposite side. Any advice
Is possible a metal band on the side on the belt is starting to get exposed and hitting the side of one of the lower pulleys. Not sure if you ac was on when you did this video but the compressor on my 2014 mustang had a leak I couldn’t see without removing it. The ac made a sound similar to that.
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics I just looked up that engine because it looked like the old engine they put in Mazda’s that use friction washers to hold the harmonic balancer to the crank and the cam sprockets to the cams. I wonder if the crank bolt has loosened up enough for the washer to move free. I’m just throwing ideas out there.
Worth a note that mine is like this too, 70,000km and it's a 2017. Since day one, 0 issues have arisen thus far so I'm going to say normal operation noise. It's also worth noting that it's much louder during a cold start!
I got a 2015 Ford escape same s*** same noise since day 1 engines fine thoughI had a Sebring 2005 four-cylinder did the same exact f****** s***. Why have a 4-cylinder would have turbo just go what is six
Yeah, they told me the same thing about a constant vibration at idle on a 13 ford escape. Sold it for junk since nobody would buy it with the vibration. This week my son 2013 Fusion developed a rod piston bearing know noise. Could be flex plate but wasn't as we used a scope to go inside housing, no cracks. Other possibility is rod bearing or cylinder head crack. Runs good but noise is there at idle and worse when a/c is on or load on engine. Ford is junk period. Will never buy one...
Just spitballing here, but this is how I would think about it. Take the serpentine belt off, see if it still makes the noise. Lather, rinse, repeat with the power steering fuse (if it’s electric, idk if Ford is still using fluid-based). Looking forward to the follow up video if you ever find the cause...
I want to say probably the turbo. 2 things, 1 Brian at BSG repair (Ford Makuloco ) has probably seen that problem and 2 SMA and I have Identifix Direct - Hit. I'll search for that symptom in the morning.
Maybe needs a new belt? I changed my brake’s thought it was that but noise is still there, but when I drive in sport mode it goes away but back in drive noise cones back when I brake hard
I’m a Hyundai factory master tech and have worked on every make and model there is as well as my father having the same exact escape for company vehicle. With Hyundai’s if a oem filter is not used or a cheap oil filter the timing chain will rattle due to low oil pressure and the cvvts don’t function right and have even seen check engine light come on an deiveability issues because a customer did their own oil change and used a cheap fram oil filter
As you said it sounds just like a brake disk rubbing... Maybe a bolt backed out behind the balancer and is rubbing? Really weird for such problem to arise at what I'd consider low mileage.
It's peppy and sporty when it runs well. Very cheap plastics on the interior, but then again that's the standard across the board nowadays. Not sold on long-term reliability of a turbocharged direct-injected engine. Fuel economy is meh 22mpg and a small tank so 300 miles is fill up time. It also beeps at everything like all Fords do. Just an average crossover with turbo power IMO.
,, my son's 2013 Escape Titanium ,,2 , L Turbo all-wheel drive,,. Absolutely no problems at 60000 miles,,,. But spoke too soon,, touch screen navigation,, just went out,,. They did extend the warranty to 5 years no one knows that,,. Is an early model 5 years 8 months no warranty $1,500 roughly to repair it,,. Found out they're going out in every Ford vehicle,,. Time for another class action lawsuit to make them extend the warranty even longer,,. ???
got a thermal imager or ir temp gun if its something rubbing it will make heat. would not be suprised if it is the air moving around the tone ring. weird shape to be in the open. try blowing air from the air compressor over it
Eh just drove the hell out of it for 1,500 miles no issues. Must be a Ford thing lol. But man this thing is a blast to drive in the twisty mountains!! I'm pretty sure it can out-handle and out-accelerate most other mundane sedans and crossovers :D
I would get a stretchy belt for it. either that or get a stretch belt removal tool. Just to see if the noise is that ac belt. Also I have heard some strange noises coming from front and rear main seals when the pcv system isn't working right.
Ivan Whats up bro.. The sound is most definitely metal to metal I was thinking timing but then there was no change with rpm.. Its something going on with that balancer for sure man.. Is it fully seated to the crank and did u check torque at crank bolt.. Please keep me posted good luck brother
Ok I have seen this in the shop when I worked at ford I am betting that it's that balance shaft connected to the crank shaft if you bring it to a dealer I know they will have to order all the parts like shims just to make it fit right their tolerances on the internal of the motor or very very tight so I would suggest not to drive it until you bring it to a dealer
Put Secret Shot FR3 in your oil at oil change. It's a oil additive that reduces friction inside your motor 45 %. My 2.0 turbo quieted down a great deal. From the 4 cylinder rattle. Give it a try. See if it's inside the motor. Shawn.
Had that. Noise from a buick 3.8 once. I had swapped the oil pan gasket and it spread too much when tightened. Just the smallest edge rubbed on the back of the balancer and squealed just the same. This all was hidden behind the crank shaft sensor splash shield. I know totally different motor, same exact noise tho- I say look behind the damper to start Good Luck!
Get a tool that removes(universal) and installs those Stressfit belts. That way you dont allways need to get new belt. I was just thinking that it cant be good that one is sf and one not. i expect it to go hard on that bearing side of that crank shaft that has stressfit on it...
He said he took the belt off and the sound was still present. So that rules out any out side source. I would have to say balance or something in that area.
Dealer Response: "That's normal, they all do it. So no fix. BTW we looked at it and it needs brakes, tires, brake fluid, ATF, and a coolant flush. We'll hook you up and do it all for $1,800."
UPDATE/EDIT the next day: I asked a my friend with her Focus ST, showed her the video, she said ya that’s normal sound, nothing to be too alarmed about. I asked her for some specifics and she said it’s related to the turbo mostly.. I started glossing over when she was explaining it. Either exhaust dump side, intake side or oil scavenging side however the noise is normal.. what she got at... We both agree however when you are back or free again, post a update video and do some digging and exploring when you are not backed up by work. Also I want to add, I have a Volvo wagon (2001 XC70) with half a million miles on it (literally) and mostly original parts. Obviously the normal suspects been changed that are consumable but she still has original water pump and half the suspension is original, hell even the AC still works like new! I have another Volvo.. just a S60 sadan from 2009 R-Design and getting for 230K miles soon..much the same story, nothing major been replaced still runs like day one.. I wish you didn’t hate Euro cars so universally, some are built to last.. lot of Volvo’s out there that outlast their owners.. Original comment: to me sounds normal for those engines.. so either very common issue that isn't severe(?) or its not issue at all and just how they sound...? i dont own a ecoboost engine vehical, but i have rented a few, honestly sounded exactly the same as the escape i rented on vacation last...sounds very similar to the fussion my friend has and i have friend who tracks a ford focus ST for fun, hers makes some odd noises on one side.. maybe related to the turbo..? i know on the focus atleast ford has the turbos one side of the engine near the wheel well area... i think its the left side if you are looking at the car head on... (which is the side yours makes the same noise the loudest on right?) ..but i dont know for a fact which side its on.. i think that's where i saw it when my friend was turning up her Focus ST for some track play time....maybe worth a check..?
The dealer won't hear it til the warranty expires.
True lol
So true. Complete denial to not have to do warranty work.
Mike Brewer so true
“Customer’s complaint cannot be replicated.” 🤦🏼♂️ LMAO
That’s happening to me right now!!!

that's what I was told also. No engine cover or plastic shields to dampen and mine has only 10k miles

Fordtechmakuloco is the ford man.. my suggestion!
Leo Jimenez I was going to tell him the same 😎
And where in the world is this guy Fordtechmakuloco located ?
You can remove the stretch belt and put it back on. As for the noise, I was thinking AC compressor clutch when I first heard it.
I’m sure Scotty could help. But I’m afraid he’s in the middle of a beef with Chris fix right now. Arguing over the best way to restore headlights . First world problems...meanwhile this Ford is having much bigger issues.

The harmonic balancer is trying to Escape. (Rimshot. I'm here all week)
Atra Hasis "I'm here all week, tip your Waiters...Ziiiiing!"
Lmao, that was clever
I work on a ford dealership and all focuses with the 2.0 and escapes sound the same its just the engine how its built dont worry it is normal.

My 2013 Escape 2.0 Sounded the same way since I got it from the dealer till I traded it. Ford said it is normal.
It is normal, They all do that. I wondered about it for the longest time but it's just how they run
Probability idler pulley, Definitely some bearing noise

I would say take the stretch to fit a/c belt off and spin the compressor pulley....
timing chain tensioner guide. the timing chain makes the noise as it slides on the guide.
normal switching to 5w30 helps but it is a normal sound.

Ford's warranty is good till 36k. Take it in to the stealer.
They woht find it until the warranty is up....
POWERTRAIN warranty is good until 5 years/60,000 miles.
So this got me thinking. Short of buying an NVH anylazer.....ive seen a couple of phone apps that claimed to be able to determine the frequency of a noise. Might make a good video. Keep up the good work Ivan.
It is the sound of MONEY...…..for the Ford dealer!
I saw something like that on my '84 f150, but it pushed it forward not backwards. It looked like the rubber was oozing out of the harmonic balancer.
Please let us know what it was. Seen a van that it had the engaging pulley on alternator but noise was further up top.
The gangley sprocket is rubbing against the findlay flange. Suggest realignment of teeth 9, 18, and 27 on the gangley sprocket.
Ivan --Why don;t you put a vibration sniffer on there??? You might have one somewhere??? Jam a bar on the balancer while its running to see if you can make it change pitch?
They all make that noise from what I have seen come through the shop. Spray it with some WD40 and see what happens.
Good thinking thanks.
does the noise change when ac is on? sounds like the ac clutch or the balancer but never ran into this yet
It's the harmonic balance for sure rubber is gana break apart .. did u find out what the noise.
That's definitely the Harmonic balancer.Mine did the sound for months until it didn't want to go into third gear.Checked the balancer visually, and it was damaged over time.112900 miles.
I’ve never heard this sound on any of the Ford escapes I’ve had or driven. I’ve seen hard shifting problems going into reverse but not that noise.
I have been getting noise on 2013 Ford Escape SE and I’m wondering if it has something to do with the quality of gasoline I’m buying?
Would it be a drive belt ( fan belts ) noise.
Quick test, spray a little water on the belt pulley(s) I'm know that a 'polished ' belt surface can make some strange sounds too.
I heard what you said about the idler and bet etc. but belts do make some strange sounds sometimes.
hmm did not change much with the revs up either, strange scraaping metal sound, just keep driving it i'm sure it will reveal itself sooner or much later.
That's the plan! This thing should come equipped with a lifetime AAA membership haha
hehe, i hope so Ivan..would be interesting to see what noise it is in the future if company keeps it that is..
Pull oil pan. Runout dial indicator on the crankshaft, check for end play (thrust). Check crank/cam sprockets/cogs are tight. Check between HB & timing cover for shiny wear.
I'm not doing all that work!!!
I've driven a Tempo before. Not a bad ride, even with the exhaust tailpipe crushed shut at the muffler haha
Any advice
THAT IS THE RANGE SENSOR IN MY ESCAPE I CHANGE THE PART ON MY ESCAPE HAD OTHERS PROBLES WHIT THE RADIO ALSO
Is possible a metal band on the side on the belt is starting to get exposed and hitting the side of one of the lower pulleys. Not sure if you ac was on when you did this video but the compressor on my 2014 mustang had a leak I couldn’t see without removing it. The ac made a sound similar to that.
Sound didn't change with A/C on or off...
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics listening to the video, when you rev it the sound doesn’t seem to increase in speed with the increase in rpm.
Wish I had seen this earlier. If your trip to SC was taking you to Columbia, would loved to have shown you around.
It sounds just like my 2.0 ecoboost. Mine is a 2016 with almost 64k and has made that noise from day one.
Ah that is good to know! Thank you for that info, Chris :)
Worth a note that mine is like this too, 70,000km and it's a 2017. Since day one, 0 issues have arisen thus far so I'm going to say normal operation noise. It's also worth noting that it's much louder during a cold start!
Yep sounds just like my 2016 edge with the 2.0 eco boost. I’ve heard others drive by and they sound the same.
I got a 2015 Ford escape same s*** same noise since day 1 engines fine thoughI had a Sebring 2005 four-cylinder did the same exact f****** s***. Why have a 4-cylinder would have turbo just go what is six
I’ve heard the same from another new generation escape... they brought it to ford to get it checked out and ford says it’s normal.
Maximus Payne I’m sorry did you ever find out what it was I have the same problem on my 2.0 explorer ac makes it way worse
Hey mate, did you ever solve this issue? I’ve got a 2015 1.6 ecoboost that’s making an identical noise
Mine too. Did you figure it out?
@@jackieg7063 unfortunately not, however it was recently in the shop for a service and they didn’t mention it, so I guess it can’t be too bad
Was it the tensioner
Just spitballing here, but this is how I would think about it. Take the serpentine belt off, see if it still makes the noise. Lather, rinse, repeat with the power steering fuse (if it’s electric, idk if Ford is still using fluid-based). Looking forward to the follow up video if you ever find the cause...
And when you’ve exhausted all other options, call Keith. Keith knows everything.
Already ahead of you Ben! Keith said he hasn't seen this issue...which NEVER happens! So this must be a weird one lol
Perhaps you could install one of your KCF sensors and monitor the Escape's progress. LOL
I want to say probably the turbo. 2 things, 1 Brian at BSG repair (Ford Makuloco ) has probably seen that problem and 2 SMA and I have Identifix Direct - Hit. I'll search for that symptom in the morning.
The sound of Ford powerfully 😎
Is there a separate washer behind the balancer nut? Nut worked loose, washer flopping around, thought I saw some rusty dust in that area.
I did notice that! But if the main bolt loosens up, the whole timing system gets thrown out of whack so it would probably just quit running haha
South Carolina, hope you enjoy your visit with us in palmetto state.
ive got a 2014 2.0L ecoboost and it sounds the same. Honestly dont know if its an issue or just the way these things run
Yes a quality oil filter is a must. I use OEM when possible :)
So if I understand correctly, this squeak was there with the Serp belt on or off??
As you said it sounds just like a brake disk rubbing... Maybe a bolt backed out behind the balancer and is rubbing? Really weird for such problem to arise at what I'd consider low mileage.
I looked...everything seemed to be in place and tight!
Hey Ivan, give us your critique of your Ford Escape. How it runs, features, etc. I wonder if it's worth buying?
A Ford worth buying? That hasn't existed since the Grand Torino.
SATAMAN Schmidt yep. Just stay away from them.
Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics 22mpg in the city? That isn't progress. A plymouth neon from the 90s gets the same city mileage.
,, my son's 2013 Escape Titanium ,,2 , L Turbo all-wheel drive,,. ???
got a thermal imager or ir temp gun if its something rubbing it will make heat. would not be suprised if it is the air moving around the tone ring. weird shape to be in the open. try blowing air from the air compressor over it
That thought did cross my mind! And the shape of the tone ring is like a bell so it amplifies the ringing lol
I agree with the Cranium, that was my thought first off as well.
Haven't had one in my shop yet but, I'll remember this video if I do
Daughter has a 1.5 turbo- no noise 40k mi
That is annoying. Now I wanna know whats causing the noise! Any update Ivan?
Eh just drove the hell out of it for 1,500 miles no issues. Must be a Ford thing lol. But man this thing is a blast to drive in the twisty mountains!! I'm pretty sure it can out-handle and out-accelerate most other mundane sedans and crossovers :D
I'm sensing a Mystique Vs. Escape autocross challenge. lol
Greetings! Excuse me, have you found a solution to this problem ?
I would get a stretchy belt for it. either that or get a stretch belt removal tool. Just to see if the noise is that ac belt. Also I have heard some strange noises coming from front and rear main seals when the pcv system isn't working right.
Did you ever figure it out ? Thanks
Ivan Whats up bro.. The sound is most definitely metal to metal I was thinking timing but then there was no change with rpm.. Its something going on with that balancer for sure man.. Is it fully seated to the crank and did u check torque at crank bolt.. Please keep me posted good luck brother
Everything looked good and tight on the balancer... will drive it until it breaks lol
So in my 2015 the noise happens only on idle and goes away completely when giving a little gas
Shawn.
That sounds to me like the wheelbearing in the exhaust manifold. 😄😁😂🤣🤣🤣😆
I looked for like half an hour...no luck.
Did you check the idler besring??
Get a tool that removes(universal) and installs those Stressfit belts. That way you dont allways need to get new belt.
I was just thinking that it cant be good that one is sf and one not. i expect it to go hard on that bearing side of that crank shaft that has stressfit on it...
Hey do you know anything about the shudder in a 2017 ford escape se
He said he took the belt off and the sound was still present. So that rules out any out side source. I would have to say balance or something in that area.
It sounds like h/p fuel pump. The noise might b travelling?
Got the same issue. Let me what it is?
it should be under warranty, let Ford repair.
Dealer Response: "That's normal, they all do it. So no fix. BTW we looked at it and it needs brakes, tires, brake fluid, ATF, and a coolant flush. We'll hook you up and do it all for $1,800."
sounds more like a Beemer dealer shop
Nope. They are all like that today.
I promise Ford would say the same thing, and i own 3. 2 are EcoBoosts 🤦🏼♂️
UPDATE/EDIT the next day:
I asked a my friend with her Focus ST, showed her the video, she said ya that’s normal sound, nothing to be too alarmed about.
