Beautiful mate. Cheers to another great video. I’m truly inspired and blessed by this video. Sending best wishes from Northern California. Bless you brother.
Thanks bud. To be honest I was flicking between the two a lot, that kind of shoot just seeing what I could get. Of course all the slow shots were 4K60p S35, most of the normal speed footage would have been FF however a few may have been 4K60 just at normal speed
Brilliant, love a good Watt's speech. Did you use the anamorphic IBIS mode here? I have the Mercury preordered and I'm considering the S5iiX just for it's open gate and anamorphic IBIS
Yes I had anamorphic IBIS mode on here. It works well when you just need to run and gun. Naturally you can expect to see some dancing flares, the slightly floaty look you get with IBIS, and a little bit of movement in the roll axis. Personally I would have preferred to have weighted the rig down a little and turned IBIS off, but I only had the lenses for a day or two so didn’t have time to play. Overall though the look is still amazing for such a small setup, and a lot of it comes down to personal preference. Personally I’ve always preferred a non-IBIS organic handheld look, however there’s no denying how handy it is for a small and mobile setup, provided you don’t mind the slight compromise of wiggling flares etc.
Thanks for this: Question: Regarding supported resolutions when working in anamorphic. The 5.9k full sensor to Ninja is still 16:9 right, so not open gate? Are you enabling anamorphic desqueeze then at the Ninja, instead of the S5iix, or is that enabled from within the S5iix regardless of it not being in a "proper" anamorphic mode? Did you try open gate from within the S5iix, internal recording? Thanks!
Yes, I wanted to shoot PR RAW which is 16:9 at 5.9K into the Ninja. It gives you 2.66:1 desqueezed. I turned on 1.5x desqueeze in both the cam menu and on the Ninja too (of course that’s just for monitoring as desqueeze is done in post). I didn’t have time to try internal open gate unfortunately as only had a day or two to actually get hands on due to other commitments. Also would have liked to try them on the GH6 which has dedicated Anamorphic 4:3 open gate mode, but didn’t have a PL m43 adapter to hand. More time needed!
Beautiful! Would you mind providing me some advice? I have no gear but I’m wanting to get started with a bang. I’ve assisted on many professional shoots and with photographers so I know a decent amount and can learn very quick. With that, the S5 ii X looks very tempting as I’m looking for a great hybrid that I can make money with. I need both photo and video. What would you recommend?

Initially came to this to check out the Lens & Camera combo, but I find myself coming back to it every now and then, just to take in perfect match of subject, cinematography & audio. Beautiful job.
Nope, can’t say I’ve seen it to be honest. I’m shooting a narrative at the moment, lots of scenes and conditions, and nothing has jumped out at me. The internet sometimes has a tendency to overthink things and make mountains out of mole hills, in my opinion.
@@RoweFilms Hahaha...sounds good, thank you...that was the only thing making me hesitant about getting this camera but from your content I don't see an issue at all but wasn't sure if maybe you faced that issue in something that you didn't post or in any testing. Thanks for your response!
@@chrisstrikes no problem dude. I can’t say you wouldn’t see it, but I can say it hasn’t been a problem for me. I can’t imagine it being any worse than any other camera that doesn’t have an OLPF and at the end of the day, no camera is perfect 100% of the time. It’s a great bit of kit mate 👍🏻
It is cool, but I thinks more people feel confortable with the 2,35:1 ratio, since the last decades of the analog cinematography lived with the stereo audio on the side of the roll. So we saw the movies most likely in 2,35x. Anyway, this camera body is awesome with 6K 3:2 video capability.
Thanks mate. Yes 2.35 is safer for sure. The nice thing is you would then have the ability to reframe horizontally in post, which is nice. I just decided to show the native aspect you get with the camera/lens combo on this one. Cheers for the comment!

I would consider all of the above, but can't advise you individually which to go for as there's so many factors that come into it, and that will be different for everyone. Budget, hardware you're already invested in, your shooting needs, style, and the kinds of setting you expect to be shooting in. Your best bet is to work out what your priorities are and choose accordingly. As a general rule newer may be better as tech does move with time, but they are all perfectly capable, even in 2023.
@@RoweFilms I see... yes, want to go from the digital gh3 style of image to a more cinematic style, but today there are many LUT like Arri Alexa etc. so a bit confusing if I need raw or not... do you think the Black Magic pocket original is still worth it in comparison to the P4K that also got some years on its' neck? someone want to sell me a Og for 485 dollars while another guy want to sell me the P4k 766 US dollars... none of them are up to date, but both are Black Magic cameras... in perspective to GH5S what do you think disregarding format need or any style of how one shoot, but just talking of the actual value of the hardware in 2023 and forward and what they can do as cameras?
@@SimplicityForGood the original pocket might be pushing it as specs are a bit outdated. The P4K is still decent. There’s a lot more that goes into a ‘cinematic’ image than just the camera. Arguably lenses make more of a difference to the overall feel of an image.
