you hit this right on the head, biggest waste of local resources anyone has seen, and we have nine more years of this hogwash, thankfully I do not work on the strip but it just makes it more and more apparent that locals just don't want to go to the strip for most things...
also to add, not a record number of revenue to the casino's , that revenue needs to flow down to the lower workers , not just a pad in all the pockets of the SVP's and CEO's, remember the little guys run your casino day to day, without them you are nothing...
yes - the very big one and the city fell for it left right and sinker or is that hockline and sinker. When F1 turns up it's you that pays for the race - did the city not do its homework or talk to other cities or race tracks that host F1? You totally missed it - just go and look up how much states, race venues and others pay to host a race. it's not F1 that turns up and pays you. Maybe if the city and you looked and understood what goes on outside the USA and how it works then you would have known what you getting into.
the culinary is set to strike next friday...if they strike during F1, ill cheer them on hardcore. i fkn hate F1, ive lost income because of it, it made SEMA a nightmare to work. i never cared for F1, never hated it or liked it. i despise F1 more than the government.
What is inexcusable is that this money could have gone to something like a functioning light rail system, but they always claim they don't have funding for it. Instead, they have funding for stupid stuff like this.
That actually makes sense. Would be game changer. 🎮 but they want ppl to pay for parking now. Cuz it would be nice to park in the outskirts of Vegas and light rail 🚈 inwards. I'm surprised that Jacob hasn't been murked by the adversary that he snitches on. Lol
In Summary: $700m public money into a Billionaire's football stadium - OK $500m public money into a Billionaire's baseball stadium - OK $40m of public money to repave public streets - BAD
I work for a utility. They only started working with us late last year. What they wanted done would cost over a million dollars. They quibbled and squabbled about paying it - who would pay, the City / County, and / or F1. It got barely down to the last moment before we wouldn't have had time to do the monumental amount of work they needed before they finally worked out the payment. Of course, they wanted US to pay for it, but none of the work benefitted us and wouldn't have been done if it wasn't for this race. They should have started this work 2 years ago, not try to squeeze it all in THIS year. It is a right mess, and for a billion dollar venture, so dumbfoundingly ill planned.
As a huge fan of F1 and a longtime follower of the sport, I find it crazy just how poorly organized and how money hungry the corporations are, I feel bad for the people of Vegas genuinely, I feel like everyone can live without a track in Vegas

I’m a die hard Vegas fan but over the years everything has continues to cost more and more. I’ve gone from 6+ visits a year to maybe one. The great deals have dried up. For that kind of money I can go to a number of other destinations. And with F-1 there’s no way I’d be anywhere near there! Forget it!
I agree. Pre covid I used to go 6 or 7 times a year mostly for shows and concerts. Same room I booked back then has almost doubled in price. Tickets for a show like Adel have almost tripped and are past $1,000 for just a regular normal seat. I want to go see the Raiders but prices like this and F-1 mess no way. Wonder how many other people feel the same way.
Its been a while since I visited Vegas but I will make sure my next trip will be during F-1 free time. I live in Indy a racing town but we keep our races on a track that's incorporated in it's own town called Speedway.
What a fantastic, insightful Video. As a Brit I had no idea how much disruption this event was causing the locals of LV. Hope it works out for you guys and thanks again for a fantastic program.
Yeah, yeah... poor Americans from Vegas suffering from F1... They are only poor little victims in this world... Monegasks, Azerbaijanians, and Singaporeans are nervously smoking in the next corner, looking at their huge tragedy... Of course, they don't experience the same thing every year...
@PhantomP63, it's called street circuit, god dammit - it is an absolutely common thing. The same happens in Monte Carlo, Singapore, Baku, Jeddah, and Melbourne literally every year, but they don't cry. Why do you think you are better?
I am hearing on F1 sites that lots of fans are pissed that the heavily increased room rates have been slashed as many rooms have not been sold and they are asking for refunds. Many F1 fans say it's cheaper to fly to Europe for 2 weeks, see 2 races and have a vacation.
F1 races are generally very expensive, but the prices for Vegas are absolutely crazy. It wasn't much better in Miami, no idea why Liberty Media is so greedy in their own country. Even the tickets for the paddock in Monza in 2006 were much cheaper and I was able to get autographs from numerous drivers at the time. Of course, you can't quite compare that with inflation, but you almost can't afford it with a normal salary today.
Was there over Halloween weekend and it was INSANE with all the construction. Uber, Lyfts, and Taxis were stuck in non-stop traffic and we walked as much as possible because of that. Though that was hard since half the main sidewalk on the Strip was closed to build grandstands. I go there at least once a year and this one was tough. Amazing reporting Jacob!
Should have stayed on Freemont St. Thats what I just did for the NHRA races last weekend and for Halloween. Even Freemont St. was crazy on Halloween this year. Could barely walk down the street.
@misme2000 rode CAT busses since the 90s as a kid all over vegas. To and from school at times. Out to the west side to skate at desert breeze. What are you even talking about?
Every member of the Clark County board needs to be voted out. They OK’d this mess. A massive investigation needs to talk place to see where the pay offs went.
You should go to the government building (its actually called the government building) across from the outlet mall and go to the parking lot and see the luxury cars regular government office workers park there. I overheard one of them talk about her pool issues at her house. The level of "the big ripoff" is beyond words.
Are you serious!!! I live here and I avoid the strip or take the long way around and I also pick up my mom from work at the strip, which now there’s now traffic, oh well. Yes it’s a mess but the amount of work it brought to Vegas is the best thing ever! If it wasn’t for all that business Vegas would be like 08 crash but thank god we have a football stadium, hockey, t-mobile, ufc, F1. I can keep going on! Be lucky are economy is booming just look at other states and how bad they are doing!! Now it’s time to expand the roads and that creates more jobs! Yes there’s going to be more traffic for now but what else do you want a bad Vegas economy again like 2008-2011. If it wasn’t for what we build we would be like California right now. And that state is doing way worse than Vegas was in 2008. People are so ungrateful
I’m sure everyone saw a huge payday and that override’s the inconvenience all the locals have to experience with no reward. None of us benefit from this project
It’s a great idea! Think of all the money being made! Working for the city council right now would be so lucrative. A whole lot of envelopes being transferred under tables, and a lot of palms being greased! Good ol’ Vegas baby!! Winners win, and losers lose.
They could give free healthcare to every las vegas resident for that price. They could upgrade all the schools. They could increase mental health services and take on the homelessness crisis. But they'd rather give it to f1
Las Vegas used to be such a great 4 day weekend spot. It was safe, drinks were a buck and a nice room was thirty five. Great golf courses were open to the public for about $40. With a cart. And a great ribeye steak was $15. And most casinos had that horse race game that you’d pour quarters into for an hour and seemed like you always broke even.
@larrylebowski8386. Exactly. The PTB don't see it. I moved here in 2006, a latecomer. Over time, everything that made this place great has gone. They're even alienating tourists. Looking for greener pastures.
Yeah old we get it, Vegas was great for you during the 80s...... it's 2023 get over yourself with that 'yesteryear' crap!! You can always just sunset and be out of your misery.
My wife and I visited Vegas from Scotland for the first time back in mid-October. We went to see the show at Sphere, but were excited to have the opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of Las Vegas too during our brief stay. What a mess the place is. The Strip is a nightmare for all the construction; famous views like Bellagio Fountains blocked from The Strip; pointless taking a taxi anywhere along the strip for the gridlock so fighting your way through crowds of people corralled through narrow pavements. Everyone I spoke to at the U2 show, all who had travelled to LV for the concert - every single one commented on what a nightmare Las Vegas was, that they wouldn't dream of coming back just to visit as a tourist and they would caution everyone they know against making the trip themselves. Such a shame and ultimately that's how the city will truly pay for this utter folly.
this is what i dint get about tourists. you come here only hearing stories of how amazing this place is, but when you get here all your disappointment comes from one thing(f1) you have no idea what vegas was like before vegas so that could just be what vegas is like. everyone says the Eiffel tower is so so amazing but lots of people are disappointed by seeing it, but f1 isnt in vegas so how could that be? some places arent as great as youve heard them to be, especially vegas. i always hear about how great vegas used to be and how its a shell of its former self, and that was before anyone thought f1 would ever go to vegas again. when 90% if the people there are broke, drunk and angry its not that fun of a place to be, also with all the mostly naked women, homeless, and gambling addicts or alcoholics its very uncomfortable to even walk around. its not an f1 thing, its a vegas thing.
I’ve been following F1 as a fan for 50 years. No way in hell would I show up to be ripped off in Vegas for this race weekend. I’ll just watch it on TV thanks.
The great overstatement is the boom to local businesses. I worked in Albert Park where the Australian Grand Prix is held every year and all the local shops were told they would make a killing. It never eventuated. Yes, there is a lot more passing traffic but that's all people did, they just went past. Although the construction becomes streamlined and gets quicker every year the grandstands etc still takes a couple of months to put up and another couple of months to pull down again. It's just not worth the hassle. Your real customers want to see the Bellagio Fountains not scaffolding! You will have it for four to six months of the year! Every year!
The difference with Albert park is that it does bring a lot of people in to Melbourne and the suburbs, every F1 weekend the city feels a lot livelier but yeah people only go in and out of Albert Park/Port Phillip area
Practically no one has ever had an issue with Albert Park, its not in a major part of the city and uses already existing roads around the park. It absolutely is a benefit for that area. Las Vegas? Well, so far no.
Thank you, Jacob. Well researched. As a local, I completely agree. The traffic has been absurd, and it's not over yet. Let the billionaires who own these companies pay their own fees.
@@pm-ff6fp NO kidding, and regarding funding. I guarantee you that NONE of homeless will EVER see that money. I don't see anyone from Bonanza and D St., benefiting from this race, nor anyone from Las Vegas Blvd and Foremaster Ave benefiting from this race, or anyone from Main St and Owens Ave benefiting from race either. THOSE people can CERTAINLY use that money!
Taking F1 to Las Vegas is a total mistake. As a regular visitor to Vegas from the UK I am amazed that this was even given the go ahead. Clark County board seriously needs to be held to account. For years F1 venues have been 'Cash Cows' to fulfill the money lust of the F1 community. They did not start going to the middle east for nothing, thats where the money is. But Vegas is different. I have imense sympathy for the hotel employees & other Vegas workers who have been royally shafted by this event. F1 should be paying wholesale for this gig. no if or buts. Just to think F1 could have gone back to Long Beach CA with no more agrovation than the Indy Car race. But Long Beach is not where the cash is. The sooner this charade is culled the better. Shame on you Vegas.
I somewhat agree. This is Liberty/FIA/F1 event, and they should pay the whole cost. If for no other reason, a nuisance fee. However, the Long Beach is "too rough", "too bumpy" for the pretty boys of F1. I do think there are many other circuits in America F1 should run at, Laguna Seca for example. I compare the F1 circuits to a private golf course. I live in San Diego, and would regularly play the great Torrey Pines. It always blew my mind how good the make the course for a major event. I played after the Andy Williams (Farmers Ins. Open) and knocked 6 strokes off my score - the course was [edit] immaculate. No wonder the pros play so well. Same with F1, when the track surface is "perfect", of course ground effects work so well. I want to see F1 on a proper, old school racetrack, not a makeshift street circuit. Cheers
I was so excited about coming to Vegas for my 43rd birthday on November 10th but because of your videos you saved me from coming down. I think we are going to put it off till February hope by then things will be back to normal down. Plz keep doing the update videos. And plz continue to do them after.. the race.
I know that I'min the minority, but I'm a Vegas local who can't wait for this event! I love seeing the track take shape over the past few months and finally seeing cars on track will be well worth the wait
Do you work on the strip or have had to frequent the strip in the last several months? If your answer is no, then your opinion kinda doesn't matter cuz you don't have to deal with what strip workers have had to deal with. That's kind of a main talking point in the video. If you do work on the strip, or frequent it, and are still excited for this event, then I'd be very curious to talk to you as to why. I was also initially excited. I'm a car guy and a sports guy and everything that should align with being excited about F1 coming to my city. And now I hate everything that has anything to do with F1.

What’s been frustrating is that there has been almost no communication between the city or F1 with the communities that live on or near the race site. No updates on when they won’t have access to get in and out of the roads that lead home, no warnings that internet would be down to lay lines for the event, and no info on what to expect the actual race days when the roads aren’t accessible. I worry about people who rely on outside assistance and no delivery/Uber/taxi driver on the planet will come near the area.
@@rileyfair5 Friend, I can assure you that they have not been providing details and advisories on when the roads are closed/being worked on,providing alternate routes, or giving details on how residential areas on the track should prepare for race week. Knowing that race is happening is a lot different than living with the effects of them building it on the streets you literally live on.
@MaplestreetLane you sure? It's on Ndots website and they released a video talking about road closures and route changes like a week ago. And f1 coming to vegas has been a thing for like 4 years now.
@MaplestreetLane also I'd love if I got to watch F1 from my window for free. Other countries love it when this happens. Just think you're driving on a F1 circuit now just to go to work. Also pay attention to your local news and traffic updates. Might help you know more before it happens
I'm an F1 fan who has been to races at Indy, Montreal and Monaco. I was super excited when this race was announced being close by (plus loving Vegas) and booked a timeshare on the track. Then the tickets started to get released and I was shocked by the price. I anticipated getting gouged for everything while at the event, but $2500 for an ok race seat was absurd. Add the venue fees that they'd have to overcome, plus the added hassle of walking the strip that I'm sure they are going to crowd control and you realize it won't be that fun. So I canceled my room. I can't figure out how this pays off for Vegas. First year construction will be the worst, but in future years you'll likely have a month on each side setting up stands and lights. Then nobody but race fans will be in Vegas that weekend, why would anybody else come and put up with the hassle? The organizer is selling ~100k tickets yet Vegas has 150k rooms, this isn't going to be epic tips, this is going to be a bust for workers. The organizer should have to guarantee at least 200k tickets to make this a net gain for Vegas.
@@garryhorsley2902 Yup, highest single day was 2000 Indy 250k. By restricting seat supply they can charge higher prices. I paid about $325 for 3 days in Montreal at the hairpin, I doubt there will be a place on the whole vegas track that will see as much race action.
@@shermanNTKI that’s why we attend is to watch a race. I think that’s the problem with some street circuits, I don’t even like Monaco, it’s a drivers favourite rather than spectators unless you have lots of money
@@KA._.144 Nope just making the observation that the seat count math doesn't work out for it be a net positive for Vegas and the workers. Vegas is too big for the event, it has 150k rooms. You can get a trackside room at a mid-grade trackside hotel for $200/nt or less right now.
Been to Vegas often and I have always looked forward to the experience. Going there next week and I am , for the first time, absolutely dreading the trip. With traffic a nightmare, I have to use the monorail ( based on some comments, not looking forward to it.) Cancelled 2 shows so as not to worry about being late and throwing away hundreds of dollars. And now the threat of a strike. Never been to Reno , but I'm told it's real nice. No one in authority will lose a moments sleep over it , but you lost a loyal customer.
How about just a walk? So many lazy people it's sick. We were there Oct 10-17. Avoided cabs, buses, and monorail. Simply walked everywhere. Had a great experience. Sure, we walked 15 miles a day on average, but if you're remotely in shape, it should not be an issue. It didn't affect me in any way. One day I walked 28.9 total miles and I'm almost 40 years old and I had no issues. STOP BEING LAZY
I am a local and we get monorail tickets $20 for 20 all the time. Love the Monorail. Why avoid it. Great option to get around and it gets you from hotel to hotel, casino to casino without being on the strip. It is a great option actually.
I was in Las Vegas in September and saw the start of this construction. It was horrible. Thank you for this video. More people need to know what is happening there. The strip is a mess. These cars drive at night with no lights that’s why there are lights and stands all over. Please show more pictures of what they are doing. I wanted to go to Las Vegas but I’ll wait until they clean up this mess. I hope it’s worth the billion dollars.
The impact on locals in Singapore is very minimal every year and there’s a noticeable uptick in people spending cash around the island. It’s not just Europe that doesn’t have a tipping culture like the US, it’s the rest of the planet.
We tip because in America we have money to tip. Plus asking a slave to bring you food deserves a tip. I know in Europe your slaves don't get tipped and that's fine. But in the USA we all have easy lives and too much money
@@danny208YT In the US you tip because companies don't pay workers a living wage. The rest of the world thinks this kind of exploitation capitalism is pretty disgusting. Also thinking that Singapore is in Europe..... :')
We attended a music festival a week before the race: it was a f****g mess and inconvenience, we had to walk all the way from Las Vegas Festival Grounds to the Mandalay Bay Hotel (5 miles away), which by the way, was so over-priced all because of this. There was no public, taxi or even app transportation. It was freaking HELL! Not to mention that we couldn't even walk on the same side on the street... we had to go through many hotel's properties and even going back to cross the effin street due to road closures. And, aaaaaaaaand, on top of that, the hotel messed up with our reservation and we had to rest at the casino!
This whole year has been a nightmare to me because of this. My usual 25-40min commute turned to 3-4hours on a daily basis costing me and other strip workers our valuable time, gas, babysitting expenses, and our mental health. But of course these greedy companies, executives, and officials don’t care about the regular guys. It’s all about the money.
I was debating coming down but when I heard rumor's of the chaos getting setup and saw the prices I was like I'm better off setting an alarm and watching it at home. India spent $400 mil USD to build a dedicated F1 track (i.e. not street circuit) over a decade ago. F1 did the mandatory 3 races there and the track has basically been abandoned every since. Similar things have happened else where too.
Locals hate this thing. It's made everybody's lives miserable for months. We could have hosted a huge tennis tournament, of which there are none in Las Vegas, and it wouldn't have impacted anyone's ride to work.
My buddy, who has facing condo, said that F1 extorted $250 a room from the buildings that faced the race course. If they didn't pay up, F1 was going to drape a tarp from the roof of those buildings. Everyone called BS, but at this point, nothing will surprise them anymore.
@@mattpatrick3536they can't drape anything over a property they don't own. Tf lmao? Man if I was your buddy, I'd be selling balcony seats just to piss them off more 😂😂😂 $100 a seat you get a bunch of takers. Have a little watch party and make bank. Owners of the properties should be doing this on their roofs if they have a view of it. Easy money and stick it to F1
Living here in Vegas, I hardly ever go anywhere near the Strip, but I garuantee you I won't go down there that weekend. And what's funny is the fools in charge scheculed this race the weekend before Thanksgiving., which is always a big weekend in Vegas, Thhe F1 crowd might be gone by then, but the mess they leave behind won't be.
Class action lawsuit for Las Vegas residents for having subsidized this yet having no view access. Locals shouldn’t need tickets to view what their city FUNDED. 💀
I was in Vegas two weeks ago and that F1 mess is terrible! We had to wait 15-30 minutes for a cab or Uber. Before this F1 mess, the longest I've ever had to wait for an Uber or cab was 5 minutes. I learned my lesson and won't go to Vegas during the F1 season.
Another lazy person. Was there Oct 10-17 and enjoyed every second of it. Just walk. Stop being fat and lazy. This is the problem with America. People taking cabs from Planet Hollywood to New York New York 😂😂😂😂 JUST WALK.
@@bobsmith6544 As a rider, I say yah. You're saying you can pick up riders within 5 minutes? We're in town from October 20-25th and we stayed at The Delano and the average wait time for ride share or taxi was between 15-30 minutes long.
I’ve been a huge F1 fan my entire adult life and approaching 60. I’ve been to quite a few races around the world and the inaugural race at COTA, however a race in Vegas is probably the worst idea ever dreamed up. We all know F1 is wildly expensive, but Vegas has set a new benchmark for greed on behalf of Liberty Media. Normally races are designed and funded by consortiums, but Vegas is solely owned and produced by LM. This venue has disaster written all over it. I had an opportunity to go and passed straightaway. I’m not going to drop 10-20k for a weekend. I wish the locals well and hopefully Vegas is short lived.
I'm a Vegas native and a Formula 1 fan, and I think all this headache is worth it, lol. I hope the event stays here for yearrssssss. It'll be like America's Singapore GP.
I'm shocked that the circuit measures 3.8 miles. It's actually larger than Silverstone, home of the British GP. I think it'll stay. I heard the lease agreement was for 9 or 10 races. I just hope the corruption and bumbling bureaucrats don't ruin everything but this video gives me little hope...
My wife is in the hospitality industry in a hotel inside the F1 loop and she was finally given the pan to get to work. She has to park at the convention center and take the monorail to work. This adds over 10 miles each way to her commute and then the added time of parking at the convention center and taking the tram to work. And then she has to do this to get home. The location she works is not doing anything as far as monetary compensation for the F! delays to just get to work. I was surprised that they are not paying the employees at least 1.5 hours extra each way to get to work and then leave during the F1 event. Her hotel has made it mediatory to be at work or risk points which could result in termination, just like New Years Eve. She is already pessimistic about all of this. Hopefully she/we are wrong and this is a great event for locals.
Lets talk about the 40 million , from what I heard it was told to F1 that it would take 40 million to re-surface the streets. but the streets where in bad condition so the cost doubled to 80 . so they Asked not demanded that the city contribute as they have already spent 400 milllion of there money, and since its estimated that the area will bring in over a billion dollars of new revenue . 40 million is a pittance :)
Another great video. Reminds me of what happens to most Olympic host city, spend a lot of money and get little in return. Question...why didn't they build a road course on the outskirts of the city like they did with the motor speedway? Seems like that would be a win/win for everyone.
I was in Vegas at the end of October and made a note/told my friends to avoid Vegas at all costs between late Sep and late Dec as long as F1 is going on. The visit was mostly snarled traffic and long taxi/uber rides. Forget strolling the strip to look at the sites because everything was blocked by grandstands, fences, scaffolding, and cloudy film covering glass overpasses. I was glad people started tearing off the window film. Thanks for the local perspective. Hopefully, when they do their post event financial analysis, they take into account the lost revenue in the weeks leading up to and after the event.
When I initially heard about F1 racing in LV, all I could think is ......isn't there enough stuff going on already? When you have so many people crowded into one place at the same time you have the makings of a disaster.
Hey Jacob my man, since you did ask I'm going to throw in my two cents as a fan of racing, specifically Formula 1. The real reason F1 has been allowed to tear up The Strip and many of the surrounding streets and why barricades have been put up weeks in advance of next week's race is that financial estimates indicate that the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix is expected to bring in $1.3 BILLION over the three-day weekend for the CITY (not Formula 1, not the FIA). Since Las Vegas has spent "only" a few ten million dollars on infrastructure development to bring the event to its city (with Formula 1 footing the vast majority of the bill), that means that if that projected financial windfall for this event is even in the ballpark, this year's Grand Prix will be the singularly most financially successful event in the ENTIRE HISTORY of Las Vegas. The upcoming Super Bowl in 2024 is expected to bring in only HALF of the money that this one F1 event will. Plus, since the Formula 1 Driver's and Constructor's Championship is held every year, so if both parties sign a multi-year contract agreeing to race this circuit in the future it stands to reason so long that the racing is good (which we'll have to wait and see to make an informed decision on that) this could be one of the most sacred cash cow events in Las Vegas every year moving forward as well. To address but not excuse some of your complaints, pretty much everyone familiar with F1 is aware of the darker side of the sport. Organizations like Liberty Media (and individuals like Bernie Ecclestone before them) didn't get rich or grow the sport as much as they did without some shady business dealings here and there. The examples you gave in your video unfortunately show proof of the penny-pinching it's capable of where safety isn't involved. However, safety is the reason those barricades tourists complain about being put up so far in advance - both the city and F1 were very worried about people camping out for a good view and severely risking the structural integrity of the walkways which aren't built to hold as many people as are expected to turn out and watch the race. Still, having been stuck in Las Vegas traffic rush hour traffic more times than I can count when I resided there I can only imagine how inconvenient and frustrating it must be to get around right now and I wish a more streamlined solution had been developed that didn't impact locals as much. Nevertheless, I think (and hope) your pessimism is unwarranted. Formula 1 drivers race a multitude of street circuits every year, shutting down major thoroughfares across the world. The organization has held many races in Monaco, Dubai, and Macau - all towns with a similar MO to Las Vegas. Yet in those places race weekend is celebrated. Hopefully the current growing pains Las Vegas feels will subside once it experiences what its like to host an event of this size, and if the racing is good I would actually put all the money I have on this probably actually being the best investment decision LV has ever made. Even if its just a one-time-shot thing, Las Vegas's treasury and tourism departments will almost certainly be very very happy with how this turned out no matter what the local/other tourist backlash is. As I said, just my two cents.
Monaco has held a race there for over 50 years so for them it is part of life and the locals are on a high minimum wage regardless of their occupation. Many Las Vegas workers are on minimum wage and rely on tips for an income and there is no guarantee during race weekend that their sacrifice will be worth it. For a start F1 are having trouble selling tickets and are being discounted to entice buyers. On top of that if visitation is going to be down during the installation and pulling down of the race infrastructure that is going to hurt employees even more so.
Shane, I just read that the reason the ticket prices are dropping 1 week before race day is because Max V has already secured the championship as of last month. This race will just be a formality at this point. With that, does F1 and Vegas still estimate the revenue to be 1.3B?? I highly doubt that. Pretty sad if this whole thing is a bust with all the trouble, headaches and loss of work/money it's caused for many many workers in and around the venue. The president of the lvca or whatever he is should be fired or voted out of his role. He was just being greedy and wanted to be the person to say "I brought F1 to Vegas". So many red flags with this event. Crooked politicians and business executives care less about the average person breaking their backs and sacrificing their own lives with their families to make them richer with the profits they will make.
Are you really comparing Monaco to Las Vegas? The difference in population is almost 20X, and we better dont compare incomes. Greedy Liberty Media will ruin F1 adding street circuits, and more races at USA, while France and Germany are out of the calendar. Next year will be street circuit at Madrid instead of Barcelona.
Good coverage on this, Jacob! Sadly I cancelled my usual October visit because of all this madness. I hope it's not a permanent reduction of a trip to Vegas
as a harcrdcore F1 fan from europe since the 80's i feel for the people of las vegas . The moment it was announced that Las Vegas would host a F1 race we already knew it would be over the backs of the hardworking people over there. there's only 1 reason its been hosted there is ... money. Even F1 drivers themselfs like max verstappen say, it wont be good racing there, we only there for a show. Unfortunately its Liberty media who decides. I wonder whats gonna happen if this race is turning out to be a snoozefest, (wich likely will be when it comes to racing itself) Good chance they pull the plug after 1 race and go t go different country. So all this for maybe 1 race...
Max could just stay home but won't since he's the star of the show this year. This event will be the premier North American F1 road race when it is moved up in the calendar schedule and it's a good thing that the inaugural race is last and of little consequence this year. It also good to see such efforts put into this event unlike the Cesar's Palace parking lot race from way back.
We were there a few weeks ago for WWWY and it was a MESS. I could not believe how little traffic engineering went into this, and there were SEVERAL areas they clearly needed to have posted traffic guards. The Sphere & Wynn Employee parking clash is an ISSUE.
Such a good and needed video, Jacob! There have been so many stories and reports, with many being contradictory, about all of this, and you summed it up in 15 minutes! I think that you are absolutely right on with your assessment of things 👍
Jacob, excellent job of getting a lot of information out to the masses. We were there a couple of weeks ago and there is no way that I want to get stuck in all of that again. Will definitely plan our visits outside of setup and takedown in the future.
On a positive note, the sphere is awesome! Graphics are sick and the sound is better than any concert Venue I’ve ever attended. Will be back to see U2 again (after the F-1 cloud has passed). Thanks for the great reporting Jacob! I always check in with you before a visit to sin city!
I'm 71 been watching racing all my life...The Vegas F1 race on ESPN was one of the best ever...See You Next Year. Solid Gold Thumbs Up for Vegas F1's future.!"
Great video! This was a colossal mistake in my point of view. We (all of our family members) were thinking of visiting LV for the first time since Covid. We visit two to three times a year and always once in November. This crazy disruption put a hold on our plans. I am certain many others also did the same. I can guarantee you that our hotel fees will keep going up on an ongoing basis. Also, was this all really worth it? Time will tell and good luck to all involved.
Same here, I always visit Vegas in Oct/Nov and I'm not going til mid Dec now. I also always go for a whole week if not longer and only staying 5 days this time. Really hope this is all over with in MUCH less than 10 years 🤞
I am in Vegas. I am not complaining. Years ago (I am really old) we had a F! race in the Caesars Hotel parking lot. Two points here. It shows how large that lot was. Second I worked at the Dunes (Now the Bellagio) and looked at the race from the 20th floor. It is the same lot that Evil Knievel used to jump, on his motor cycle, across the fountains. He fell and broke almost every bone in his body. Except his spine.
I was going to go to Vegas this month but decided against it. I'll go when this F1 nonsense is gone and the cyber attack issues have been resolved. What a mess.
I gotta commute to the howard hughes corporate pkwy area every day for work, and the commute to and from that area is a recurring nightmare. To hear that the financials of this project was not in good order before a hammer was lifted is salt on the wound. Nothing surprises me anymore with civic projects in this city; pure and absolute chicanery! Dude - fantastic job with researching the info and disseminating it.
Not a US citizen at all but I am a huge formula 1 fan and I have to say I sympathise with the residents of Las Vegas, its unfair that this event will be so disruptive for residents, especially considering the majority don't want the event happening. And if I'm honest, the majority of us f1 fans don't want it either. There are already 2 races in the US, only Texas being good. There is no need for another one just for 'the show'
Being an F1 fan since the 80"s, I couldn't agree with you more. . Liberty has gone for the $, instead of bringing back classic tracks that bring great racing, which is what long-term, die-hard fans want to see, Vegas was a mistake from the get go!
...it would have been much better for all concerned if Las Vegas had paid F1 something like $400m rather than erecting grandstands, then the hotels and restaurants could have seated guests to watch, fans could line the streets to watch for free and the entire city would be a viewing area. Then it would have simply been asphalt and catchfencing. F1 wins with a unique race, the fans win because they have freedom, Las Vegas wins because the City would be buzzing and Max wins because he's winning everything!!!
Hi @@getpoked, my thoughts exactly. I’ve been an F1 fan since the 90s and I certainly didn’t want another race unless it provided great racing. This is a simple dash for the cash and it’s alienating regular F1 fans. F1 has become more and more unaffordable for regular fans and this is an extension of that trend. Now the Vegas hotels and casinos may be iconic but no regular F1 fan is dying to see cars drive by these hotels and casinos at 200mph because most can’t afford to stay in them - to even get or understand those views. Over past few years with DTS and Liberty Media openly sending free invites to the rich and famous its made the sport and the fan base worse IMO. You only have to look at Martin Brundle during his grid walks, something he’s done since ‘1997. Before you’d get some surprises by other celebs or sportsmen/women who are actually into F1 and know about the sport. Now, half of the rich and the famous in attendance not only don’t know who Martin is (revealing they’ve never watched F1), but also they have no clue about the sport or why they’re even there. It’s just a flex for social media. It’s all quite sad.
@nathancorfiemd2609 I’ve been to COTA and Miami for the past two years. I’m from Charlotte, NC and the Miami campus is way better and really nice compared to COTA….the Miami track is not as good as COTA but it is good not complete shit….Mexico City track is worse than Miami in my opinion and Vegas will definitely be the worse the track on the calendar.
Wow, Jacob. That was a lot of info to absorb, but thank you for pulling all that together. I've been watching your series on the LVF1 event. It's mind boggling. That whole bit about a multi-billion dollar company sniffing around for public funding is just appalling. You just know there's some dirty dealings going in the dark that we don't know about. And there's potential for a 10 contract? Yikes!!! I'll steer clear away from LV around F1 time. When you were showing how the public were tearing away the window film on the pedestrian overpasses, I literally laughed out loud. I'm puzzled why the installers didn't put it on the outside of the glass where no one can reach it LOL. I guess they didn't assign their best minds to that task 😂😂😂
I was in town last week, and it took us 45 minutes in a cab to get from the MGM Grand to Wynn to see Awakening. Feel horrible for all the people of Las Vegas who are working on the strip that has to commute to work everyday. The hardships they're dealing with due to F1. Last April, BTS was in town for about a month with 4 concerts at the Allegiant Stadium. They brought in billions of dollars for the city, and no dramatic changes were done to the strip except for purple lights everywhere. Wish the city would think about the hardworking people of Las Vegas before they decide which event to host.
As I said in another post elsewhere but will repeat here as on topic: After the last 6-months' debacle with F1, the County Commissioners should actually look at "reimplementing" F1 out at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Complex where an F1 course could have been readily cobbled together with the NASCAR Track, NHRA Dragstrip, the road course, and the frontage roads. For the extra $100 million or so in road repaving costs and other construction done on The Strip/Harmon, Spring Mountain, given the infrastructure already there at the LV Motor Speedway, F1 wouldn't have needed the paddock construction, etc. Glad that we have idiots in charge of all these major decisions!!
The average new grade 1 fia track costs $250,000,000-$500,000,000. Texas motor speedway is nowhere near f1 standard. The whole paddock and pit complex would need a complete rebuild and the current roval would never be approved so the majority of the circuit would be newly built. The reason f1 is going to a lot of street tracks is because it’s much cheaper to get up to grade 1 standard. Even Daytona road course is not considered good enough for fia grade 1
F1 generally doesn't like banked turns and thus doesn't run many circuits with banked turns. But beyond that, it would also take a lot to get the LV Speedway to be a grade 1 FIA track. F1 wouldn't go to Las Vegas if they were not going to be racing down the strip. Considering the rest of the layout, racing down the strip is clearly the entire purpose of the race.
Yeah that wouldn’t work, but It’d be cool to have a grade 1 circuit so they could host bot only F1 but also MotoGp and other events. The saddest part personally is it cheaper to go see the race at COTA than to Vegas and I live in Reno.
@@JB22. Well, I've been in attendance at LV Motor Speedway at the IndyCART Races. Noticed that these Indy cars didn't have any apparent issues. They've spent $100 million on repaving roads and access bridges etc. F1 bought the land at Koval and Harmon for $240 million and then built a $500 million paddock, etc. Just seems like all this additional work done on regular streets could have been done out at LV Motor Speedway at lesser costs because of traffic impacts, etc. You have a large road course there already along with grandstands at both the NASCAR Speedway and NHRA Dragstrip.
Hi Jacob; your reporting is nothing short of prime time evening news! Love it! Thank you for keeping us updated and for all of the hard work you have done and are doing on F1 behind the scenes. CAB 😊
I have loads of Singapore friends and they experienced similar issues with that too. Luckily for F1 and the city, the organisers did a great job and didn’t give people sthg to complain about.
I'm part of the local hospitality workforce pushing the culinary union to strike at least one of the race days to show every single non-working class decision maker in our city that we've had enough of the greed and corporate malfeasance that has only hurt this once amazong leisure destination over the last two decades.
Yes, strike and give the race a black eye. I'm sure the F1 reporters will get to the heart of the issue so everyone will know what's happening. If they don't, it just makes Vegas look bad worldwide. How could that hurt culinary or hospitality?
@@whydontmynameswork Let's just say I had a hand in them no longer being in power. It is my goal to have this city run by the workers and for the workers.
Thank you for your informative video, I worked as a security director for a luxury hotel that was located inside of the track at Streets of Long Beach for Indy and I can tell you that hotel lost money every year for the race…there was an argument to be had that the advertising and potential future business generated may offset that cost but I never really seen that. Definitely going to follow this story as it progresses
What people don't understand is that Vegas is growing exponentially faster than the construction can handle. There's also a ton of politics going on. The logistics involved with Formula 1 was just incompetent along with how Vegas has been city planned. As a Vegas born and raised native, I actually love Formula 1 coming to Vegas. Yes, with all growth, there will always be growing pains, but at some point you NEED to restructure to accomodate for the growth. Why do you think LA is so attrocious to navigate? Formula 1 in Vegas is not a mistake. Vegas' lack of ingenius logistics control is the problem.
Holy hell, what a complete cluster f-! I have a friend who lived in LV for just over 20 years (and has seen the massive explosion of development)..BUT once she heard about this event coming, what the plans were. She saw it coming, how much of a mess this will cause. Plus, simply not being happy there anymore. My God, she was right. And she thankfully found a position in a different city...far from LV and moved. I've been out there multiple times, earl and mid 90s..again early and mid 00's - as construction, the Strip started looking like a mini city (City Center esp.), traffic back then was the worse I have experienced in my visits...now if I were to head there just to get away...sput of the second vaca, no, this is a hard pass! Sadly, it looks miserable. As for this multi-billion dollar corporate greed slime Liberty Media, eh, .its sickening, but not shocking at all! 😠Hope this is ONE TIME event, and it never happens again in LV for the sake of the businesses losing money, everyone that lives there....tourists that come but do not wish to deal with this gridlock.
Man, it would be cool if we took this as a lesson to provide an alternate to driving in our cities. A straight line crowded boulevard such as the strip seems like a perfect place for a simple underground subway line. To bad they quit on it…
Local residents wouldn't be happy about subsidizing a project that mostly benefits visitors. Most people don't care about public transit for residents either.
@@sexygeek8996 This sounds like a plausible reason on the surface, but the nature of these videos seems to be about catering to outsiders, which in turn keeps the economy for the locals strong. Then there’s the issue of paying for it. We’ll, it looks like locals are paying for F1 with the hope that it brings more out of town dollars into the economy… the principle is the same except that one event last for a weekend and the other will reap benefits over the next century.
Same issues in Orlando. Locals need to realize that getting the tourists off the roads and into mass transit will make it more pleasant for the locals. Tourists concentrate in a few specific areas so mass transit between and within those areas will satisfy 95% of tourist's needs. Tourists no longer use cabs and rental cars clearing the roads of a significant amount of traffic. Locals have less traffic. Win-Win. Never happen in Orlando or Vegas because the cab companies and rental car companies ensure the politicians will block it with huge donations to their campaigns and causes. Other positive results are less wear and tear on the roads so less repairs/repaving, faster commute times, and more. Reduced costs for new construction and repair might even offset the costs of the mass transit solutions. This doesn't even mention the environmental improvements of less traffic and mass transit high-usage. Mass transit is very efficient when the routes are limited to high-density usage...the opposite of city-wide mass transit.
Las Vegas had a great chance with the monorail, but didn't extend it to the airport because of opposition from the taxicab companies. Avoid taxis in Las Vegas. They are very expensive and they often cheat you by taking longer routes than necessary. They now have fixed prices between the airport and the strip but they can still cheat you on other routes.
I was there this week and stayed at the Venetian. We just walked around the immediate area and went to eat at a few places. It was a quick 2 night getaway. I live in Phoenix. It was not terrible but talking to some of the locals at the shops it has been rough. They cut down some 30 year old palm trees for stands. It also sounds like the race next year will not be on the strip. They should just build a proper track somewhere near vegas
We are in Vegas 6-7 times a year performing. We were there last in August and will not return until after the Super Bowl. The traffic and construction is just insane. Going north from Tropicana to anywhere is a 30-45 minute trip on the side roads. The frustrating part is the STUPID construction crap. A 4-lane road with 3 lanes blocked by cones for days with nothing going on....no reason to block them at all. Especially on Koval and Paradise. Until this crap is over, we will just refuse performing contracts in Vegas. In fact, we just picked up Carnegie Hall in NYC on a date we would have been booked in Vegas had we not refused.
For all those complaining about the traffic and the mess of F1 infrastructure, remember, there’s more than just the Strip in Las Vegas. Fremont isn’t anywhere close to all that crap, and there’s LOTS of other casinos around the valley that have FREE parking and low table minimums and more affordable rooms that are actually just as nice, if not nicer. People need to get away from the Strip and venture out.
If people are coming to Vegas, they want to be on the strip or downtown. We love the lights, the liveliness, it's a total package. We may as well stay home and go to our local casinos if we have to venture off the strip.
@@joanfraser6500 And that's why I suggested downtown/Fremont area. People focus too much on the Strip, and think that is all Vegas is, and is a horrible place to live because of it, blah blah blah. Vegas is MUCH more than the Strip. Hope you had fun on your trip. We're headed there on Sunday! And we're avoiding the Strip as much as possible.
@@InsidetheCasino Yes, we did have fun. We stayed downtown as we had stayed 4 nights downtown and 4 nights at the Mirage the year before. We loved DT and stayed 6 nights at The Fremont this past August. We did go to the strip one day just to visit our old haunts, see the Sphere (from the bus) and we avoided going anything south of Flamingo. We went to Resorts World and had some luck there. One thing very noticeable is how freaking hot it was on the Strip. It's so much cooler DT when you're under that canopy. I do hope you have a great trip. Enjoy it all! (PS We will definitely be staying DT again on our next trip regardless of what is happening g on the Strip.)
Great job! As a local I'm wondering if the casinos will have worked out their dispute with the Culinary worker's union in time. As a Lyft driver, I can tell you that the construction has been a real nightmare. 40 minutes to go from the Sphere to Resort world on a Thursday night. ugh!
I visited Vegas for the first time a few weeks ago due to a music festival. I loved it there but yeah the construction of Formula 1 took away a little from it. But must be worse for the locals, it really ruins traffic. Pretty much every Uber driver we had complained about it and how it always changes from day to day and even hour to hour which roads are closed.
What makes me so angry about this whole thing is how things that were equalizers like the Bellagio fountain have been grand standed up, roped off film on bridges out over public areas and views. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to destroy the nostalgic sights of Las Vegas for the wealthy to pay admission. I agree complete incompetence of Clark county is this the future of Las Vegas a place that can be torn to pieces to appease the highest bidder.
The gall of F1 to demand the businesses disrupted by all this mess and that paid taxes to pay for it to pay more or have their natural view blocked....sounds like a pretty solid lawsuit to me. Sue the city, county and F1.
Fascinating and frightening information, Jacob. I feel bad for those hospitality workers in the trenches, as they are the ones who will foot the REAL cost of this. I just really hope they are able to survive until then, and are able to recoup a sizeable amount of what they're currently losing. It must be really, really frustrating to be a Vegas resident and worker right now.
As a local I feel the need to point out the culinary union will likely be on strike during that time. This covers over 53,000 Vegas workers that are bartenders, cooks, cocktail and food servers, guest room attendants, porters, bellmen, laundry, and kitchen workers
@@bruceh4180 Even if the union contract allows a tiered (33% walk off), a strike has the possibility of becoming a crisis too big to operate safely at F1’s scale. If politicians step in and override the strike, I imagine a large chunk of hospitality workforce will not comply.
@RockneOliver The "let them eat cake" vibe has been getting stronger and stronger over the years - a total lack of respect for the working person. The politicians and people bribing the politicians don't get it. People are objecting to the complete lack of consideration and resistance is growing. I heard that Caesar's told their staff they should allow four hours to get to work in a town where mostly everywhere is 20 minutes away, tops, and made threats about what would happen if they call in. It's been taking my husband two hours to get to work every shift, and we live less than 15 minutes away from the Strip. The culinary union should strike 🤬
Funny, the World Youth Day 2023, here in Lisbon Portugal, we had the same problems, the same bullshit expectations and the same weak results for the common folk. And yes, the state (public funding) paid almost everything. And we are not a rich country at all So i understand the pain and frustration Las Vegas residents endured.
Great job Jacob. You hit the big stuff and some I hadn't considered. One thing you didn't discuss is what are the 250,000 people who don't have race tickets going to do? Only 150,000 seats and SRO locations, but we have 400,000 in town. With all the matinee for shows, and restaurants moving open times forward, it seems only gambling, Freemont, The Arts District, Asian District, and Area 15 will be options.
An unknown is how many tourists decided not to go to Vegas for vacation because of the mess, as well as how many may not return because it ruined their vacation. If I had known last April how bad it was going to be the first week of Oct., I would have gone somewhere else! While I was out there, heard a lot of other very upset tourists with the same feelings. Online in groups, I can't even count how many people mentioned they had planned to visit, but canceled their trip. Yes Vegas will recover from this goat rope, but if they do the same crap next year, it will be a blood bath financially.
Tipping isn't a cultural difference, it's an economic difference. You don't tip in foreign [from the US] countries, because all workers are guaranteed a living wage, where as in the US, corporations have lobbied for decades to pay 'tipped' workers less than minimum wage to cut costs, and push their wellfair onto the consumers
Another great video Jacob! My wife & I usually visit LV 2-3 times a year, but this year we decided to drop it to once a year because of rising costs. We were planning on coming in late November but now I think we will plan on early December. Thanks 👍🏻 By the way, I think the F1 asking for 40 million from the state is a joke. Multi Billion dollar company asking for a break, typical I guess lol 🤦🏼♂️
@@oasisarahI believe F1 should fuck Vegas off and go to another venue that will appreciate F1 and the billion + in profit that would be made in 3 days. F1 is the biggest money making sport in the world.
As a Vegas/F1 fan I'm excited to watch it on TV but as a human being I feel for the locals as the construction and structures are an eye sore and a headache that will not pay off in the long run. Time and experience is more precious then what little money they may make in return.
@@adamlynch9153 if I had money to afford $1,500 a ticket then sure. Money determines if your watching it on TV or live. So ya I'll be watching it on TV 😂 I have a couple cousins that have went to watch it live in Montreal and in Budapest. It definitely ain't cheap that's for sure.
Yep, Europe definitely doesn't have a tipping culture because you have to pay a living wage in Europe. And not make employees rely on tips to make a descent wage.
Is there anything I missed?
you hit this right on the head, biggest waste of local resources anyone has seen, and we have nine more years of this hogwash, thankfully I do not work on the strip but it just makes it more and more apparent that locals just don't want to go to the strip for most things...
also to add, not a record number of revenue to the casino's , that revenue needs to flow down to the lower workers , not just a pad in all the pockets of the SVP's and CEO's, remember the little guys run your casino day to day, without them you are nothing...
yes - the very big one and the city fell for it left right and sinker or is that hockline and sinker.

Corruption is everywhere. We used to go to Vegas two to three times a year, but for the past ten years, the price for anything has gotten out of hand.
What is inexcusable is that this money could have gone to something like a functioning light rail system, but they always claim they don't have funding for it. Instead, they have funding for stupid stuff like this.
It would make ridiculous sense to have one adjacent to the strip…
That actually makes sense. Would be game changer. 🎮 but they want ppl to pay for parking now. Cuz it would be nice to park in the outskirts of Vegas and light rail 🚈 inwards. I'm surprised that Jacob hasn't been murked by the adversary that he snitches on. Lol
F1 pays for all the construction with all the $$ they're giving to do this....
In Summary:
$700m public money into a Billionaire's football stadium - OK
$500m public money into a Billionaire's baseball stadium - OK
$40m of public money to repave public streets - BAD
The word I heard is 9.5 million total for all utilities
So they called your utility out on your BS? I'd bet they offered to do it themselves and laws said no.
@@bobsmith6544 Your comment doesn't even make sense.
What utility work did they ask to be done that didn't need doing and won't benefit the city in the long term?
@CassidyTeresa in theory: is it possible that F1 could've been involved with casino hacks by tapping into data lines during said construction?

Vegas is no longer for broke people. Since covid , everything has gone up and now with this Bidenflation doesn't help either.

You should go to the government building (its actually called the government building) across from the outlet mall and go to the parking lot and see the luxury cars regular government office workers park there. I overheard one of them talk about her pool issues at her house. The level of "the big ripoff" is beyond words.
💯
People are sheep. You actually think they would vote them out?
That’s exactly why we stopped going.
Yep, the good ole days of Vegas are LONG gone. That's why I don't bother anymore.
@@slimpickens01 Okay Wokey
It's not going to be until year 2 and 3 that we see Vegas in good shape and some great racing. We need this to work!
Bad timing bro.
this is what i dint get about tourists. you come here only hearing stories of how amazing this place is, but when you get here all your disappointment comes from one thing(f1) you have no idea what vegas was like before vegas so that could just be what vegas is like. everyone says the Eiffel tower is so so amazing but lots of people are disappointed by seeing it, but f1 isnt in vegas so how could that be? some places arent as great as youve heard them to be, especially vegas. i always hear about how great vegas used to be and how its a shell of its former self, and that was before anyone thought f1 would ever go to vegas again. when 90% if the people there are broke, drunk and angry its not that fun of a place to be, also with all the mostly naked women, homeless, and gambling addicts or alcoholics its very uncomfortable to even walk around. its not an f1 thing, its a vegas thing.
You don't get to be a billionaire by spending money. You hoard it all up and get other people to pay for you!
I agree it's our city counsel that's stupid

Shame on you Vegas.
crymore please.
F1 didn’t want vegas..Vegas wanted F1
Cheers
So, you're a Uber Economist and a Scientific Socialist. Wow. Impressive.
Well idk if you know this, but the races in the middle east are some of the cheapest to attend

This was a great video. Well done!
COTA weekend over 200K spectators attended

It’s not THAT bad. You may not have access to certain areas you’ve been in before but there’s no reason to “dread” it and cancel shows lol
When you're 78 and have had a hip replacement, let's see how " lazy " you are.
This is the reason why Europe has extensive public transportation underground.
The Mole people are in charge of the underground 🚇 😳 🤣
That is so awful!! I have followed this event from day 1 and obviously F1 did not care at all about Las Vegas residents!
The most hectic move Vegas has made in awhile.
So India doesn't have autosport market if it's abandoned.
Another fantastic job Jacob. Thank you for bringing this mess to light. There should be a class action against this kind of incompetence.
The class action you are talking about would be voting out the officials who agreed to this

If you can see cars from a window, you owe F1 $1500.00. Of course the casinos win, residents lose.
My buddy, who has facing condo, said that F1 extorted $250 a room from the buildings that faced the race course. If they didn't pay up, F1 was going to drape a tarp from the roof of those buildings. Everyone called BS, but at this point, nothing will surprise them anymore.

F1 is gonna be awesome in Vegas!
Jacob, you did a great job on this. Best report I've seen on this desaster. We live exactly 3 miles from the mess.
Shit december will still be screwed up in Vegas due to F1. I was looking forward to coming back but gotta wait till 2024 ?
Totally agree… they’re trashing Vegas for nothing. They pay off that is promised will not be anywhere near worth it.

as a harcrdcore F1 fan from europe since the 80's i feel for the people of las vegas .
I hope it's only for 1 year. Imagine having the set up taking months every year
It's Liberty AND Las Vegas who decide.
All you guys saying this race will only last one year are smoking crack
@@ciswhitebigot well, yes...
Many thanks for this. I hope you can do a follow-up after the race, about what worked, what didn't, and how it can be improved next year.
And yet, no one asked for a race in Las Vegas, but for FIA, Austin and Miami wasn't enough.
You were spot on! You left no stone uncovered. I work at the MGM Grand and this has been a huge headache..
Really hope this is all over with in MUCH less than 10 years 🤞
Meanwhile. Record revenue for the strip every month...
@bobsmith6544 Look Mayor, no matter how many times you post the same reply, you are outnumbered.
Just because you don't like cars or F1 dosen't mean millions of other don't either.... No pain no gain
What a mess.
just go to Fremont St, it's better anyway.
Exactly. Easy peasy. No crying necessary :]
Jacob, thank you for breaking this down the way you did. It's important for people to know the behind the scenes. Great job!! 👍
Dude - fantastic job with researching the info and disseminating it.
yk, a metro would probably solve a lot of the congestion issues, vote for public transport :)
Get a bike and cycle
Liberty is just about the cash !!! That’s it
...it would have been much better for all concerned if Las Vegas had paid F1 something like $400m rather than erecting grandstands, then the hotels and restaurants could have seated guests to watch, fans could line the streets to watch for free and the entire city would be a viewing area.
Great job. A local's perspective. Nicely done. Greed is showing through. Thanks Jacob.
A lot of locals really enjoyed it (myself included). Looking forward to the next 9 years.
So change the laws.
The monopolistic union that controls Vegas announced a strike in one week, Nov 10. That will shut down everything.
Guess how long it takes walk from MGM Grand to Wynn South entrance? Cry more.
@@bobsmith6544 Why don't you stop trolling? You have a snarky answer on every post. You work for F1?
YOU DA MAN JACOB!!! SPEAKING DA TRUTH FOR US RESIDENTS AND LOCALS!!!
As I said in another post elsewhere but will repeat here as on topic:
After the last 6-months' debacle with F1, the County Commissioners should actually look at "reimplementing" F1 out at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Complex where an F1 course could have been readily cobbled together with the NASCAR Track, NHRA Dragstrip, the road course, and the frontage roads.
No way Liberty would go for that. It’s all or nothing when it comes to the Vegas strip.
Thank Obama and the union
That scumbag gave so many loopholes to casinos to screw over employees
Yes, strike and give the race a black eye. I'm sure the F1 reporters will get to the heart of the issue so everyone will know what's happening. If they don't, it just makes Vegas look bad worldwide. How could that hurt culinary or hospitality?
It’s unfortunate that the mob doesn’t run Vegas anymore. You would be out in lake mead if they did. 😂😂😂
@@whydontmynameswork Let's just say I had a hand in them no longer being in power. It is my goal to have this city run by the workers and for the workers.
I would love to see a strike for all race days.
There's a sizeable chunk of F1 fans that isn't happy the sport is racing on Vegas either. The circuit seems dull and tickets are mad expensive.
It's so motivating to see your journey. How far you came and how much you progressed and grown on your channel.
Agreed!
Except the weekly stay part. They are technically hotels. If you have to stay in a hotel you are not a resident until you've been there for 30 days.
I mean, F1 saw that the city of Las Vegas handed over $750 million to build the Raider’s stadium but $40 million is a bridge to far?
Man, it would be cool if we took this as a lesson to provide an alternate to driving in our cities. A straight line crowded boulevard such as the strip seems like a perfect place for a simple underground subway line. To bad they quit on it…
Local residents wouldn't be happy about subsidizing a project that mostly benefits visitors. Most people don't care about public transit for residents either.
Not possible.
The track location / layout will not change next year. The entire point of it is "the strip", for some reason.
Jacob you do a great job 👍🏼 Thanks Bro
Yah yah yah yah you’re so famous and booked we get it
For all those complaining about the traffic and the mess of F1 infrastructure, remember, there’s more than just the Strip in Las Vegas.
@@joanfraser6500 So go downtown...
We did! 🤣🤣
40 minutes to go from the Sphere to Resort world on a Thursday night. ugh!
Best reporting yet, Jacob. You covered the topic a lot better and deeper than any of the local TV stations. Keep it up!
We not tip because we pay decent wage
What makes me so angry about this whole thing is how things that were equalizers like the Bellagio fountain have been grand standed up, roped off film on bridges out over public areas and views. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to destroy the nostalgic sights of Las Vegas for the wealthy to pay admission. I agree complete incompetence of Clark county is this the future of Las Vegas a place that can be torn to pieces to appease the highest bidder.
As long as the fat cats get their money. Who cares if someone else has to suffer.
I feel for the locals. Doubtful they will get anything positive from this nothing but bs
As a local I feel the need to point out the culinary union will likely be on strike during that time. This covers over 53,000 Vegas workers that are
bartenders, cooks, cocktail and food servers, guest room attendants, porters, bellmen, laundry, and kitchen workers
@@bruceh4180 Even if the union contract allows a tiered (33% walk off), a strike has the possibility of becoming a crisis too big to operate safely at F1’s scale. If politicians step in and override the strike, I imagine a large chunk of hospitality workforce will not comply.
@@bearmotorcycle7305 We all calling out that weekend, hope you got points to spare lol
@RockneOliver
The "let them eat cake" vibe has been getting stronger and stronger over the years - a total lack of respect for the working person.
And we are not a rich country at all
So i understand the pain and frustration Las Vegas residents endured.
If they had any brains they wouldn't come here during that time because everything will be much more expensive.
If you come here on that weekend that's on you. You're already rich so I'm sure you'll be fine.
Who cares? For every 2 whinny little Karens that refuse to come, there will be 100 that will.
Unknown. Casinos have posted record profits every month this year.
tickets sold out for the Vegas Grand Prix in days :D the profits are already there

By the way, I think the F1 asking for 40 million from the state is a joke.
