I’ve been here for nearly 30 years. I’ve been in television production nearly as long. As a local, as a media professional, I’m here to say this channel is the best Vegas based channel there is. Watching you grow has been amazing. And having met you, I know first hand you’re a decent, good dude. Keep up the great work man. You’re winning.
the coolest thing about this video, is not just the actual edited content, but a glimpse of how much effort you put in to making a good video. I never knew, it definitely makes me appreciate your efforts, id love to see more unedited scenes, thank you Jacob, I feel like I can really appreciate this on a different level now
I walked from the luxor to the outlets at 5am once because I didn't know the area it was an eerie walk for parts of it. it is crazy how vegas can go from obscene world class opulence to apocalyptic desolation in a matter of the length of a football field.
The zoning in Vegas is a joke. You can be in sight of a multimillion dollar casino like Texas Station and be standing next to a goat pen. You can own a house in a Homeowners Association neighborhood, and you might get your own car towed away if you park it in your own driveway. Vegas stinks. You can keep it.
Best advice for personal safety: Stay in the crowds, stay in the lights, and normally you'll be safe. Muggers don't generally like an audience. If you get isolated, you'll have a much higher probability of trouble. Also, travel light - pickpockets are not unknown. To minimize loss, carry a special wallet with minimum cash and one credit card (you might want to carry your ID in a lanyard around your neck and inside your shirt); leave the rest of your wallet in your room. 100% safe? You won't get that anywhere. But there's a difference between being prudent and being fearful.
If you’re a stranger in town, always walk like you’re working and a little behind schedule. As a guy that traveled for a living flat out for 15 years, I never had an issue. Detroit, Chicago, Philly, Memphis, NYC, South Central, Patterson, St Louis. And plenty more. Never an issue.
DON'T do like I did - strand yourself in Jacob's #2 area between Fremont Street & the strip! I arrived in LV a day ahead of my family & friends & decided to shuttle to the Fremont St. Experience. I stayed late, then hopped the Deuce to go back to my room on the strip. I needed to refill the wallet & was just going to get off the bus, walk to my bank ATM, then get back on. But I didn't have to walk far to see it was not a safe part of town at night. Maybe not any time! So I walked back to the bus stop & waited. And waited. Then looked at the bus schedule & learned that the busses don't stop there after midnight! I didn't have Uber or Lyft at the time, so just Google mapped it & started walking. I realized that walking w my nose in my phone was a sign that I was a tourist & lost, which would attract unwanted attention. There were a few crazy people out wandering the dark, but I could see The Strat sticking up, SO I just stepped out w some confidence & did my best to make my way into well lit, populated areas instead of the dark residential streets. I made it to another bus stop at the top of the strip near The Strat & hopped another Deuce back to my room feeling lucky to be alive & unhurt! Lesson learned.
I think there are some of those rental room places for very young people around there; (hostels). I have read that they are pretty disgusting to stay at also.
one of my gay friends told me, he was walking on charleston west of downtown a few years ago, i think he was lost, and a car with gangmembers pulled up and robbed him at gunpoint, he hates vegas, he won't even go for a weekend now.
Very informative! As a 45 year resident I have to say that the best times when housing was affordable, free meals, a wonderful affordable place to live. Things are so out if hand I just hate it here. There is so much greed and pompous integrity they charge you for everything at resorts now! Sad truth is I just don't go out anymore. There is nothing to see no where to go that doesn't just pisss you off!
When I got there in 1998, you could go eat like a pig at a casino buffet for cheaper than it would be to cook your own meals. In 15 years that all changed. By the time I left in 2014, the good deals were all gone.
I’ve seen more and learned more about about Las Vegas from watching this single one video than watching all the other Vegas videos combined from the other channels. Well Done! I am now a new subscriber to your channel!
Ive lived in so many different parts of Vegas that I've almost become desensitized to a certain amount. Ive lived in naked city and had to walk to my apartment from the las vegas blvd/Charleston busstop and had to learn to "deal" with certain people along the way. Its not fun, but at a certain point you start to recognize the struggle and humanity in everyone around you. Everyone is just trying to survive.
...lived at The Canvas Apartments 2 years from 2017 to 2019 in the Arts District.....behind Dino's Bar.......wouldn't say it was ''bad'', it was more insane......was a great place to live actually...just crazy, that's all....only people who've lived in Vegas grasp your statement of desensitizing it....that in itself becomes a necessary form of integration with it....hard to explain to people who only see it in a snap shot video or a short visit there..............
@@Indohispanoyeah…like everyone is just trying to survive 🥴 maybe just try to survive without hurting yourself and/or others along the way then I’ll understand
I'm glad Jacob is making these videos. Many people fail to realize how far from grace Vegas has fallen. I don't have issues walking through some of these areas, but it also depends on how you carry yourself. Always be safe and careful of your surroundings.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. I was there first in 1969. It was great. The International Hotel (later the LV Hilton) had just opened. Still okay in 1971 and 1973. Still okay in 1976 to 1978. But not at all okay today. Folks who claim otherwise are but fooling themselves.
We lived near stratosphere back In 2007. Me and my husband would walk to the bars late at night into the early morning hours. We were asked for money at times, but never ran into any problems. We learned to be aware of our surroundings but mind our own business at the same time, be polite and just keep walking. Always good to carry some kind of protection with you just in case though.
@@MrGuy999guy why ask me? Lol. It's your personal choice. All we carried was pepper spray and a knife.. but didn't walk through alleys.. and never took any shortcuts. We were very cautious, and more alert around buildings and dumpsters.
I asked you because. You mentioned your routine and the fact that you carried some kind of personal protection. ( It sounds some kind of hell should that level of protection and risk assessment be necessary ).
I walked through most of these spots when I was in Vegas. I wanted the real feel of the city, not just the glitz and glamour. I didn't really feel unsafe anywhere, it was just rundown. I did however see a homeless person stab another homeless person. The response time by the ambulance was remarkable.
I 100% agree. I think Maryland Parkway is the most sketch. I saw a shooting, some guy getting pummeled, a robbery, etc.. just driving and sometimes in daylight!
For 13 years I live right by the Strip and this video is spot on. What I noticed here in Vegas is that you can live in fancy 2 million dollar place and just one block down the road the neighborhood changes to a high crime area. The first two years I lived in a high rise with best view on Naked City. Back then it was really wild, so I watched CSI-Las Vegas "live" from my balcony every night with SWAT teams getting into those houses etc... However, a few years later some investors just bought most those houses and got rid of them. So nowadays it is still not a good area but much better. An other area you didn't mention is the block between Karen Ave, Sahara, Joe W Brown and Marryland which is pretty wild at night (I have the view on that area now).
My apartment used to be on Karen and Eastern on the third floor, facing west. The view from my balcony was amazing on New Years Eve but all day you could also see all the crazy people roaming the neighborhood and screaming at nothing. Sad.
@@alwillk sure on your gated golf course it is save. I live now at the Turnberry Towers high rise and have a good view on what is going on at night on the block between Karen and Sahara (for example behind the Eureka Casino). Trust me it is pretty bad at night. If you don't belive this, just walk by there at 2am. lol. I've filmed a lot of videos of all this from my balcony during the last 9 years. Even filmed one which was later shown on the news (police was in a gun fight with a guy, they shot him later when he drove to Las Vegas Blvd) You can not see this from your house, but did you never wonder why the hell the police helicopter is always flying around in this area?
This is one of the most accurate neighborhood descriptions i ever heard. My entire rental home got robbed on a doulbe at Ceasars further off rainbow blvd, but the best part of this vid in my opintion is the graphic when describing the geography with the yellow highlight.
Also no hate on my robbery. my side i was living in, I was told when i moved here was a little gang related. I enjoy the content and im suprised you dont have 500k yet. not a fan boy. just listening as a former resident on his vids is sooooo accurate. I digress ;)
I walked around the Naked City. I was leaving Freemont Street. I couldn't figure out where to get the bus to go to the strip, so I figured I'd walk to the Strat to get to the bus. I walked around the Sahara, by the 7-11. I finally got an Uber where I thought it might be Ok to wait. The driver said that I shouldn't have walked there, it's dangerous.
My Uber an Lyft app wasn't working so I walked it to the 7 eleven in this video at like 2am. was jus trying to find a better spot but also was staying off the strip anyways that was jus recently like a month ago lols 😆 😅 didn't ever feel scared jus pissed my app wasn't working first Lyft got brought to like 30 miles away from me lols but eventually got my ride kept getting asked dif wanted to buy crys or some pills lol 😅
Excellent reporting and tries to fairly show the good and the bad of these neighborhoods. My uncle and his wife moved to LV in the 1950s after they married because they liked the vibe of the city and saw the potential for employment and the ability to buy a reasonably priced home in the area. My uncle drove a delivery truck and my aunt worked in a gift shop. He noticed that the hotels had a growing demand for laundry services. They did laundry on-site but also needed external help. He started his own business picking up laundry, transporting to a laundry facility and then returning with loads of clean sheets. They ironed sheets in those days and my aunt got a job doing that. Before he died in 1996 he said that in the back in the days of the Mafia in LV (I'm not glorifying this period only relating a story) the city was clean and safe, you could walk anywhere at night and not be menaced or disrespected. They are both dead now but really enjoyed that early time period in their life.
Your parents are not the first who said that Las Vegas was great when the Mafia was there. I talked to a worker some years ago and she said that the Mafia treated them better than the corporations.
I completely agree. Just as an example, watch Casino. It featured Vegas as very classy and respectful. The people all had to dress formal. And you just knew the mob wanted everyone to feel safe so they could return. They patrolled the streets. After the Fed took Vegas away from the mafia, any bum from the neighborhoods shown could walk in wearing a death metal rock t-shirt, holes in jeans, and sandals could walk in and nobody will say anything.
@@meltondaniels2825 keep glorifying criminals. They are pariahs that feed on mom and pop shops, and offer "protection" and extort this businesses. I'm glad they got smoked out.
Good job highlighting the positives of each area and not only focusing on the bad. Thank you for taking the risks so that we can all be more aware of our surroundings.😊
dont go north, see strat turn around, ok dont got of freemont, check south strip, after mandalay turn around flamingo and cobalt, twain univerity bonanaza vegas valley
I walked with my 80 year old mom at the time from the Trop to the Luxor. It was like 2am… ma and I had a few drinks. As we were walking we both stopped and said wow this is desolate how fast it changed. We laughed and kept walking uneventful to the Lux.
Honestly still suprised i’m unharmed. As a teen, my friends and I use to walk around all these terrible areas (especially Naked City) we’d meet all types of people and hear amazing stories. (No we weren’t doing drugs or anything, just nosy curious teens)
I visited Vegas just last year because I was working for a month in that city, it’s no joke that you very quickly walk from area nice tourist attraction areas to desolate drug-infested wasteland, sometimes it’s just a matter of walking down the wrong street. But even in some of the most crime ridden places in America, you’re not gonna see a crime every time you’re there. As long as you exercise caution and don’t stand out in these areas, chances are even if something does happen, you won’t be affected. Crime is always a game of chance.
@@TexanTalk28say that louder for the people living in their supposed rural utopias but who act shocked everytime a kid or adult in their town “shocks everyone” and commits a brutal random act of violence. As a fourth generation Vegas local I can say for sure it was better when the Mob had a bigger footprint, as soon as Wynn and his corporate cronies came it ruined this town.Great Video
Great Work Jacob! This is award winning production here. You are really good as a reporter/investigator/host, trying to avoid saying youtuber because your more than a cut above. Always great content and very informative. I'm sure this took a while to get done. I appreciate it. Been going to Las Vegas for over 20 years consecutively and have been very acquainted with the surrounding areas of the tourist attraction, either by walking or just observing on my ride to and from taxis and now rideshare trips. Always waiting to see what's next, have been following you since you started.
Just wanna say thank you for always handling topics like this with the respect you do. It always makes me sad (and, as a semi-regular visitor, quite guilty) to see the stark contrast between the tourist areas and nearby neighbourhoods. Important info to have, though, and another great video :)
This felt like I was watching a short documentary. The production, information and B Roll kept me watching. You deserve more subscribers! Well done on this video!
Going on 10 years living in Vegas, urban explored a ton of abandoned places and the underground tunnels. I will say as a woman no matter if I'm exploring or going to store, I never go alone, ever! Each time I've walked somewhere alone I've been grabbed at during the day but thankfully I defend myself like a wild animal biting, kicking and screaming loud as I can. Taking Brazilian jiu-jitsu this year!!
Try 10th planet vegas. Best JiuJitsu fighters/coaches in the game right now. Training isn’t as brutal as it sounds. And they make sure you learn the basic fundamentals before they just throw you on the mats and make you spar.
@@dublinsfaircity it will give you a bigger fighting chance rather than not knowing how to defend yourself at all. There’s plenty of evidence that shows that so….
I visited Vegas this past June…… Tried to save money on an Uber by walking from the Strat to Fremont. It’s was soooo poorly lit and sketchy and homeless people were giving me the stare down. Once I got to Fremont it was a whole different vibe. I walked through unscathed so I never thought much of it but this video made me realize how serious things could have gotten 😱. Thanks for this Jacob!
lmfao why would you try and save a few bucks to walk to fremont? consider yourself lucky that nothing happened to you. jump on the bus for 2 bucks at the very least.
@@RogueStatusX It was my first time visiting and I was under the impression everyone walked 🤷🏿♂️. Uber was upwards of $40. Thanks for mentioning the bus, I just simply didn’t know. So is the bus the way to go? I sometimes saw the double decker tour busses traveling around.
@@jasonmarisco9019 If you go again investigate the bus they call "The Deuce" It runs straight down the strip and will take you anywhere you are likely to want to go, from way past Mandalay Bay in the south all the way to north to Fremont St downtown. They sell tickets from vending machines on the street. You can get multi day passes. The only downside is they can get very crowded.
I started laughing when you mentioned Charleston and Las Vegas Blvd when that homeless guy approached the car I've seen that same guy everyday for years by the motel. I worked downtown Fremont security for about 2 years so that was pretty spot on.
I live in the city of Chicago and often visit Vegas. My husband and I have walked through some of these neighborhoods while in Vegas. We had no clue we were in a bad areas they seemed totally fine to us.
I have lived in Chicago all my life and My friend and I did the same thing. Just went walking wherever we wanted and didn't feel afraid because we didn't know it was more dangerous. Sure it looked a little more run down and had some shady characters but Chicago isn't any different.
Jacob In 2011, my wife and I stayed at the Aria. I wanted to visit and collect $1 chips from the different casinos. According to a map, the Hard Rock was a short way down Harmon. I decided to walk down there one morning. In those days, the area was full of trailers that the construction workers lived before the 2008-9 recession hit. I got outside of a clearly safe zone and realized I had made a mistake. I ended up jogging down to the Hard Rock, getting my chips, and then getting the heck out of there. I've been to Vegas over 30 times. I will not stay at a Casino at street level that funnels people from the streets thru the casino. I prefer a destination casino, like the Aria or Cosmo, where security is much heavier. We no longer wander out at street level. It's just not worth the risk. Great videos. Thank you for your work! I particularly enjoyed your video with Peter Santenello!!
I am very well versed on the darker or more dangerous areas of the city, having been visiting since the 80s, but I found this video one of the finest piece of content that I’ve seen on UA-cam in a long time.. excellent work Jake.
I was at the Sahara last month and decided to go past the Strat not knowing what's out there. Felt like it just suddenly changed into some new open world game. I saw lot of encampments, arguments, sirens, and seemed like all the houses there had metal door gates. Went into Walgreens and saw lot of interesting people doing interesting things. Luckily it was in the day time. This video was nice to validate what I saw lol
Love how dramatic you make it all look, as a Vegas local (Twain & Swenson) I see tourists jogging in my hood and they stand out! Especially the ones hitting up NuLeaf, just don't' act dumb and you'll be fine.
I’ve seen your UA-cam shorts every once in a while and always found it interesting. I’ve lived in Vegas for 27 years. Moved here when I was there younger than 2 years old. I think your page highlights the realness of Vegas the good and the bad. Just wanted to give you some kudos to the great content you are producing for our city :) subscribed !
It didn't seem to have an over abundance of side walk clutter/tents/wacked out fentanyl schizophrenia zombies-!!!😳. I venture to guess those diabolically degenerate addicts reside in those tunnels-???🤔
I worked around Utah & Main St...I used tell customers that if you don't have a gun when you come down here, they'll assign you one. We didn't say things like thank you for shopping at our store, we'd say I'll cover you till you get to your car
Being the mailman who delivers to that area, (Cincinnati, Cleveland, Baltimore) I have been harassed, followed by a dude with a pipe cause he thought I was spying on him, and threatened to be kidnapped cause I didn’t have someone’s stimulus check, I would say it’s not the best area
Hey Jacob.. Your videos are always awesome.. Just a suggestion add a link to this video where you could post a map of the bad areas so people could print it and take it with them when they visit... Keep up the good work :)
Fabulous idea!!! Commenting in the hope of getting it seen! I'm sure lots of people would find this useful and even if you weren't visiting it'd still be interesting x
Breaks my heart to see what has happened to Las Vegas. I have lived here almost 35 years and the last 10 years it continues to go down hill. Too Bad. Thank You Jacob, Your Great!!

I came from Australia to Vegas in ‘98. my first mainland American experience. Lived by the corner of Cambridge and Sierra Vista. I remember the cops would drive by and stop saying shouldn’t be in the area, said i lived there… I remember the sierra pointe apartments used to be gated, only open on one end to stop drive bys. There were cameras on the apartment buildings and the police would come over the speakers telling people to disperse… surreal introduction experience to America…
I'm moving to Vegas soon, so this video is super helpful. My favorite part is that you took the time to show the good parts of the neighborhoods because very few places are entirely "bad." I will definitely try to hit up some of the food recommendations...just, you know, in the daytime.
You must try the taco truck at Bonanza and Vegas blvd. it’s so delicious and they have a drive through set up, I swear they are more efficient and organized than Chick Fil A. Bomb ass tacos!
@@shawn9210 so much good food here in Vegas, prepare to gain some weight lol another great spot that never disappoints is Zen Curry in chinatown (off Spring Mountain Rd). Lots of great places on that street honestly. good luck with your move!
TUPAC was shot on Flamingo near Koval, there's a memorial on a giant light pole just off the sidewalk , it has people's signatures from all over the world, some writing their condolences and others just leaving messages to PAC, i passed it about 6 to 8 times over the years before i knew what it was.
I live on the corner of Twain and University Center... I wasnt aware it was a "bad area" until I was told so. I knew it wasnt the luxury class when I moved it but I didnt think anybody would call it dangerous until I saw videos like this. I moved here from Chicago... now that is a city that is dangerous. The "bad" parts of Vegas are NOTHING compared to the bad parts of Chicago, NY, LA, Gary IN. Most murders/violent crimes here are committed by people who know the victim. Not many random drive-bys, armed-robberies, or random murders. I've never once felt unsafe living here. Been 3 years now. I plan on staying here another 2. And FYI... I pay $1,200/month for my 1 bedroom, corner of twain & university. So, we're not living here cause we're poor. I like the location. I'm willing to pay for it. Weird homeless wont make me move away. My million dollar house in the country side away from all the plebs will come at a later date, in another state. For now, I love this spot in the "dangerous area".
people in vegas have ZERO clue what a bad city is. I have been to the worst parts of the Midwest and have been threatened the second I walk in the wrong spot of someones sidewalk. They think because someone shot a gun once or because they seen a group of colored people walking to 7/11 that Vegas is bad, our city is GREAT for what it actually is and our infrastructure is top tier even in the older parts
@@LUk3.M. he was really stretching for content. Naked City isn’t actually scary it’s just abandoned. Same with south strip. And behind the Flamingo to Ellis Island is totally safe. Honestly, Las Vegas is a really safe city overall and has fairly low violent crime rates. It does however have high rates of corporate and “white collar” crime such as fraud. Theft is also high. But Vegas is not bad at all. There are some neighborhoods (the ones he showed) that are more run down and abandoned, but most of these have lots of new things being built. He basically just showed the lowest income places which occur in every major city on earth. Trying to paint Las Vegas as like São Paulo or Caracas or Cairo or Mumbai is crazy, let alone comparing it to other American cities like Detroit, Chicago, or Philly. Las Vegas only has a couple areas like this and they happen to be downtown and behind the strip. Most have a lot of investment going into improving them.
I lived in Vegas and was born here. I lived in the Spring Valley area by the waterpark. Now im in the northish area by the NLV Airport. It was a huge change in scenery. I use to live by Rhodes Ranch so that was one of the safest areas in Vegas in live in besides Henderson and a few other areas, although, technically not Las Vegas. Anyways since moving, I have to literally watch myself and where I step when i walk out of the house now. Where i live isn't secure, which leads to me walking out every day and seeing homeless tents pitched up outside my home. Homeless junkies screaming, running down alleyways, And tweaking to high hell is some of the experiences I had living here. One person was sitting on my front door with her back leaned against the wall. her first words were "its my hair its just my hair im waiting for my ride"????? I literally shut the door and contemplated on how to respond to this woman before just calling the non emergancy number, management eventually kicked her out and she left. But I have seen the absolute worst from Las Vegas and its best. In reality. We do not have a government in the city of Vegas to really help the homeless crisis and the major crime issues sprees. I am convinced we just stopped caring honestly. Just like good ole America! We donate trillions to our military, But wont even donate to help get the homeless housing or help our citizens. Change needs to happen. before we all start worrying about walking out of our house like I am.
It was your lack of local government leadership that allowed this to happen. It could have been prevented in that this homeless stuff is of relatively recent vintage. The liberals have empowered this situation through neglect and de facto enablement. It is not the federal government business to solve a local self imposed situation. There is a reason that LV is one of the biggest destination for the bums and drug addicts.
I lived in Vegas from 1978 to 1980. I attended Valley High School and my school bus stop was at the corner of Twain and Swenson, which is now one of the worst neighborhoods you listed in your video! It was beautiful and very safe when I went to school there. So sad that the neighborhood got so bad.
Coming from the old public schools back East, Valley HS looked so clean and new in comparison at the time. I have some great memories from Valley HS and from 1970’s Vegas.
Wow I lived in the same exact neighborhood! Went to vally myself, only I was there in 2002.. it was so bad when I'd get off the school bus I'd have men waiting to try to pick me up, one time a couple asked me to have a three way with them an told me they would pay me.. not to mention all the drugs I was offered! Crazy shit!!
OMG/what a shame how bad it got. I never thought twice about walking to the Broadway Mall on Maryland Pkwy. from Royal Crest Circle where I lived when I was 15 years old back in 1978.
Your channel has grown so much. When I see you feature the areas of Vegas that aren't that great, I always think of CSI. Like that looks like a crime scene set.
This was very well done, felt more like a TV news documentary than a UA-cam video. Im going to Vegas first time in 5 years this month and good to know this. I suspect its a lot different now than back then
I lived in Las Vegas from 2011 to 2012 and you are right. The neighborhoods you named are dangerous and were MORE SO back then. The tunnel community fascinates me. It did back then also. Las Vegas at night is not a place you want to be except for the Strip, but I never went to the strip the entire time I lived there. So, I was familiar with the dangerous areas and the homeless community, which often times would step right between driver windows and drive through windows at food places to beg for money and food. My son was hit in the head with a brick by a guy who wanted his music player. When I first got there I stayed at that exact Segal Suites you showed in the Twain/Swenson area. I didn't know any better but learned quickly and got an apartment within two weeks LOL
I have been coming to Vegas several times a year for 2 decades. I always have a rental car so location is not an issue for me. I generally stay at the Strat because it is a decent place and has reasonably priced rooms. I am there mainly to play in poker events and spending bankroll on a high end room is not needed. The instant I saw you standing on "West Boston Avenue" I could not help but laugh. I have driven through that hell hole hundreds of times over the years, as I drop back to Industrial Ave to avoid the strip and quickly zip up and down to whatever casino I need to be at. I can get from Strat to Aria in 10 minutes even with the strip jammed for hours. Over the years I have seen a LOT go down back there on that stretch of road. Drug deals, fights, Hookers, Gang Members flashing colors, a crazy guy throw a brick at a car (not mine thank God), police many times. I always know that if the car breaks down I am in big trouble especially at night. That area is WAY better now than even 10 years ago. I don't feel nearly as on edge going through there these days. 10 or 15 years ago it was probably the biggest "gamble" of my trips to Vegas. 🤣
I live on the corner of Twain and University Center... I wasnt aware it was a "bad area" until I was told so. Being literally less than a mile from the center of the strip... is priceless. I can get to my job on the strip in 6 minutes on my bike.
Thank you for showing both the Bad and Good sides of Las Vegas. This was a very informative wake up to Sin City. That was helpful in Situational Awareness even in the Glitz and Glamour of LV Strip. I appreciate you covering this for all travelers and new residents to Las Vegas. 👍🏽
I have been watching your videos since before I moved here to Vegas 2 years ago and I think that this is one of the most well produced videos you have done in a long time. I know you put a lot of effort into this one. I also use the RODE mics and they make a handheld adaptor for it that doesn't cost much, you should get one if you want to do it handheld. I hope our new Governor Lombardo will clean this town up!!!
PS: I used to work for Vinnie Paul, drummer for Pantera, who died here in his Las Vegas home in 2018, he was one of the owners of Chica Bonitas, he had two more of them in Texas. Wow, what a crap hole it is!!! lol However it made a lot of money.
I tested myself walking from the strip to Fremont St on foot and it was a 2 hrs 21 min walk. I walked through that neighborhood and it felt eerie as F on a December night 2018.
The contrast between the glitz and glamour of the strip compared to these neighborhoods is stark to say the least. Thanks for reporting on all of Vegas Jacob
We stayed at the Sahara a few weeks ago and ventured across the street to the giant souvenir place. There were people shooting heroine in the parking lot, and others going through shopping bags of (apparently stolen) merchandise from high end stores. It reminded us a lot of our home city of Seattle, where we won't even venture downtown anymore due to how unsafe it feels. I would not recommend staying in this area of the Strip.
Where you near the Strat? There's a huge souvenir shop there that claims to be the world's biggest. In this area, you can get approached by people selling cocaine. Things can change rapidly. One side of the street is better and safer than the footpath on the other side, near the Strat. The Las Vegas Strip now extended for 4 miles (6 kilometres) with Old Vegas (Fremont Street) and the New Vegas at the far end, near the Luxor and the famous 'Welcome To Las Vegas' roadsign.
Arguably one of Jacob’s best videos ever, both in terms of content and quality. And we know he has done a lot of great ones! It is sad and maddening how you have more bad than good areas in Las Vegas. It is like the beauty of the strip masks everything.
I knew a girl that lived in the Siegel Suites. Let's say she was a member of the oldest profession and messed up with drugs. I would give her restaurant cards and a little cash to help her out. But I could never get her off the drugs. Lost contact with her a couple of years ago. Hope she finally got straight.
Jacob, the man giving the real life view of LV. Thanks for sharing. My son and I walked through a few of those neighborhoods the last time we were out and didn't know the background. Now we know. 😲
I was born and raised in this valley and will turn 65 next month. Just like this video shows, there are neighborhoods I wouldn't go into without a armored escort. I worked in real estate and at one time, I would do inspections for banks on homes being short sold or repoed. These were the kinds of neighborhoods I would make sure I was long out of before it got dark. The thing if, he can show all these neighborhoods, but we need to realize every single large city in this country had neighborhoods like these. Vegas is not unique in this.
Awesome report. Back in Jan 2020 I was staying at Mirage and badly needed my laundry done. I went to a laundromat on E Twain. Thought I was in an episode of Cops. I also walked those streets between the Strat & The Arts district. Now after your report I can see what a risk I took. Lol 😂
We were at the TI in July where we usually stay at least once a year, and this summer it was really noticeable how much of the strip was overrun by homeless who in many cases seemed to need help with mental illness. At one point I was going to cross the pedestrian bridge from by the TI towards Trump and the Big Mall and the area around that pedestrian bridge had a number of homeless that seemed to need help around the stairs. Also, one afternoon returning to the hotel and crossing between the Mirage and TI a pair of homeless started screaming at each other and fighting in the middle of the strip and at about the same time there was a homeless man taking a bath in the mirage by the volcano. It was the first time in many years I did not feel safe on the strip. Sad.
When Ballys had fountains in front (before tearing them out for the Bazaar) I would see the homeless washing their socks and underwear in them early mornings.
I've always found Vegas to be extremely safe until visiting this year (my 7th trip), downtown now feels a lot more sketchy and the strip is littered with homeless who are a lot more brazen and in your face than they've ever been. Going back in time I walked the area behind the strat back in 2007, it felt a bit more run down but was very safe still in those times at least I felt safe.
These videos just keep getting better - quality and content. You can tell a lot of work and thought goes into these. You can cover a wide variety of topics and do a great job on each. Thank you.
Lived in Vegas 9 years. All over the place except south basically. I can say , being on the streets down there a few years , that the two most violent places you don't want to be at as a visitor is Paradise/Twain & Charleston/LVB (places you might end up, being in close proximity of the strip). Honorable mentions not by the strip is Boulder Highway and some Bonanza neighborhoods.
☆☆☆ONCE upon a time when I lived in Vegas way back in 1999 the Unsafest places there was most definitely Boulder Highway area near Sam's Town. Is it still like that today? Btw Jacob mega props to your Camera man or woman did an Awesome job following you. Jacob I was literally waiting for you to sing holding on to that Mic. LOL AWESOME Vlog you get 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So very sad I left Las Vegas in 2004 and these areas were becoming quite drastic at that time and now I see that nothings changed but just gotten worse that's so very sad with all the money in those casinos in that town they do not invest in the properties around them to help the community when unfortunately a lot of them are in that situation because they try their luck spend their money on those hotels unfortunately lose Vegas is a sad situation has been for many many years he brought that to my mind today God bless be safe
Born and raised in LV, lived there for well over 20 years, recently moved to Seattle, WA and I’ve never been more afraid in my life. I know there is crime and dangerous areas in Vegas, but you go anywhere in Seattle or Tacoma and you will see the craziest stuff. It’s really on another level of dangerous I feel. I do miss Vegas, but it’s a small city and it has its downfalls. Great video, enjoyed it!
Excellent video. Very interesting and what a place Vegas must’ve been in the 50’s & 60’s, with all those iconic pools and motels(?). Sad and depressing to see they are derelict now and the pools filled in. Hard to see how it is going to get back on its feet for future generations and prosperity for the people living there. So much of the memorable areas of America generally are dying and derelict it’s heartbreaking to think of the people whose lives are changed forever from America’s heyday. Subscribed to your channel 👍🏻
I was working on the strip and a couple from Houston were talking about dangerous areas in Vegas and I had to interject. We have ugly parts, but I don’t think any area is outright dangerous if you keep your nose clean. I live in a “bad” part of town and have never been put in a situation I would consider dangerous. You can get yourself in trouble dealing with prostitutes or drugs, but other than that, Vegas is pretty safe in my opinion.
Exactly. Sadly there’s tons of these ckickbait-ing UA-camrs pushing nonsense “Scariest part of…!”, or “Most dangerous neighbourhood in…!”, or “I walked through the most violent…!” videos.
uve got to be kidding. just look at the local news and theres stabbing and shooting almost daily and most of it are on the east and north side of town. u cant be this naive . ur gona get tourists hurt or robbed if u dont steer them away from the bad areas.
Jacob, this is excellent and informative content. Thanks for producing. It is sad to see homeless people draping the street of Las Vegas and money rules blocks from where they reside. Of all American cities it seems this should not be happening in the city I love to visit.
This is such an eye opening-- i know this is supposed to be the worst neighborhoods here in vegas, but i cant help but to feel sad because of the consequences about the choices we make in life. It also made me mad cuz the city should also do something like provide lighting for everyone's safety. Jacob, im one of your silent fans (you and norma are the best) and i agree, this one is for the books, commend your bravery and non judgment- matter of factly approach! A TV network or any social streaming platforms should hire you. Anyways, always keep safe and can't wait for another video! 🎉😊
I went to UNLV from 2011-2014 and lived in the Rebel Place off-campus apartments on Swenson my first year. I used to hit up the 711 and other food spots on Twain quite a bit and was never really phased by anything as I had grown up in some rough parts of Southern California. Only time I ever got shook was one night pulling an all nighter I hit up the Jack in the Box on Swenson and Flamingo like at 1 AM. Right after I ordered, this dude pulled up on me at the drive window PLEADING with me me to give him a ride because someone was trying to kill him and he had warrants out for his arrest (Dude looked like he had seen a ghost). The guy he was running from yelled from a distance “Don’t give him s--, he called me (racial slur)”. The girl at the pickup window told me “Drive off. The guy he’s running from from has been here before and he has a knife.” I pulled off without even getting my food. I then realized, maybe this isn’t a good area and I shouldn’t be out this late lol.
Hey Jacob, I know you may not have time to read this comment but I really want to thank you taking time in detail explaining/touring the areas the city itself does not mention. I feel I am learning a lot about the city and state as a whole thanks to these videos posted. I hope I get to see you around, Thanks, Abraham
I'm watching this wondering how Jacob feels okay wandering these sketchy areas and filming. I've been to a few of these and wouldn't. Then I think I saw he was printing a bit at the appendix position, and it all made sense.
@@mjriemen I see. So concealed carry. ("printing a bit at the appendix position" was foreign to me.) Military or firearm awareness talk, I assume??? At his waist or ankle??? Very well hidden. I noticed he was in a squat a couple times when someone walked by who made him uncomfortable, but being in a squat seems like a vulnerable position to me.
@@Matt-checkandraise Yeah, concealed. “Printing” means that the shape of your firearm is visible due to the way your clothing is sticking out. Appendeix, is the location where the firearm is… tucked into his waistband in the back near his appendix on the side. More general Firearm enthusiast lingo than actual military. As far as the squatting goes I didnt notice it, but he seems like a very fit guy so he could get up quickly from a squat I assume. I dont really think the squatting has much to do with defending himself, but I could be wrong. Him having a camera man with him would probably be a big deterrent to otherwise sketchy people. Safety in numbers.
You did an excellent job on this vid. I've lived all over Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson, and Green Valley for decades. My youngest son got jumped, robbed, and almost lost st his life when he was 18 years old, and was working as a manger in a dollar theater by Nellis and Lamb. The east side of Vegas is super bad too!

Hey Jacob what would you say your favorite part of living in Las Vegas is and why?
Edit game strong bro!

great stuff. Love your videos. Keep them coming.

I never knew, it definitely makes me appreciate your efforts, id love to see more unedited scenes, thank you Jacob, I feel like I can really appreciate this on a different level now
Wow, thank you Mike!
I walked from the luxor to the outlets at 5am once because I didn't know the area it was an eerie walk for parts of it. it is crazy how vegas can go from obscene world class opulence to apocalyptic desolation in a matter of the length of a football field.
That's just like Chicago and city areas when they put the projects across from the luxury
There is nothing on that walk that is eerie. Cut it out. Lol
That's what blew my mind when I first traveled to Vegas. The spread between the rich and pour is massive in Las Vegas.

Man, this channel really grew into well-produced top tier stuff. Great work!
Much appreciated!
Totally. Been great all along tho imo👍🏽
That's unnerving, glad to hear you're alright. Vegas can be pretty dangerous depending where you're at.
That area has always been bad. Glad you made it out safe!
Ha-ha-ha, I was robbed right there -- in 1975!
You are so right. The minute they got rid of free parking ( I think mgm started the trend) I knew old vegas was dead. 😢
When I got there in 1998, you could go eat like a pig at a casino buffet for cheaper than it would be to cook your own meals. In 15 years that all changed. By the time I left in 2014, the good deals were all gone.
I used to get lotsa free hotel rooms @ Rising Star casino in Indiana but they cut all that out after the pandemic!
@@nitromartini1422, same back east, now no more free rooms & all u can eat buffets are non existent now after the pandemic!

Trying to survive doesn’t give you an excuse to fuck around with other people.

I walked through most of these spots when I was in Vegas. I wanted the real feel of the city, not just the glitz and glamour. I didn't really feel unsafe anywhere, it was just rundown. I did however see a homeless person stab another homeless person. The response time by the ambulance was remarkable.

Someone just got shot and killed last night on 1700 Karen ave, near Maryland Pkwy.
My apartment used to be on Karen and Eastern on the third floor, facing west. The view from my balcony was amazing on New Years Eve but all day you could also see all the crazy people roaming the neighborhood and screaming at nothing. Sad.
Yeah Karen ave , twain behind the Westgate area. Sketchy at night.
Bullshit. I live at the Las Vegas country club Karen/Maryland it ain’t that bad except for the tranny prostitutes.
Even filmed one which was later shown on the news (police was in a gun fight with a guy, they shot him later when he drove to Las Vegas Blvd)
You can not see this from your house, but did you never wonder why the hell the police helicopter is always flying around in this area?
Jacob, stay safe and be vigilant when you're out there filming, even at "safe" areas.
Good thing you’re strapped Jacob.. 👍
Mafia kept good tabs on the neighborhood, unlike the good ole corporations , probably a much better time for most people

These neighborhoods aren't terrible, they have negative history that content creators exaggerate.
I have lived in Chicago all my life and My friend and I did the same thing. Just went walking wherever we wanted and didn't feel afraid because we didn't know it was more dangerous. Sure it looked a little more run down and had some shady characters but Chicago isn't any different.
I love your content so much bro so much Intel you provide in ALL areas !!
Jacob
In 2011, my wife and I stayed at the Aria.
Should’ve taken a left at that fork, it’s a whole different, better world down Main St.
Love how dramatic you make it all look, as a Vegas local (Twain & Swenson) I see tourists jogging in my hood and they stand out! Especially the ones hitting up NuLeaf, just don't' act dumb and you'll be fine.
I disagree. Maybe for you.but remember you're not everyone
Be safe out there. Keep ya head on a swivel. It gets crazy for us in the inner city this time of year.
I'm in west Baltimore...Edmonson village/poplar Grove and being from here these neighborhoods don't look that bad...
Hey Jacob.. Your videos are always awesome.. Just a suggestion add a link to this video where you could post a map of the bad areas so people could print it and take it with them when they visit... Keep up the good work :)
Great idea. I second this.
I blame raider nation, i never fought at my smiths parking lotsince i was a teen but the last 3 years los raider and mad doggers wanna set trip cuz im dressed like them, now i dress white

Hey Jacob, this video used as an audition to a TV station job would definately get you hired. You are professional grade !
@@livivy6810 well I'm moving from Los Angeles so you know I appreciate a good taco truck. I'm definitely checking it out now.

So basically it’s the same as every city in the USA
Pretty much.
Tell me one better country than USA?
All Europeans want to live in our country.
@@LUk3.M. he was really stretching for content.
You're truly fearless to spend your free time putting yourself in danger for us.
One of your better videos. You could market it to public tv stations outside of Nevada and make some good cash. Keep it up. This is REAL content!
Exactly
Amen to that
America cares more about Israel, then thier own citizens, mainly becuase America is an occupied government by the state of Israel.
I was born and raised ! Also went to Valley but grad 76 ! Boulder hey and Sandhill!
I was in vegas a few weeks back, the strip itself has somewhat become dog shit. A few times I had to step over some homeless
I just can’t get over how blocks away there are resort casinos/hotels and then sketchy neighborhoods like right there
@theman1412 Welcome to Vegas!! Actually that could pertain to Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Lol...

Being literally less than a mile from the center of the strip... is priceless. I can get to my job on the strip in 6 minutes on my bike.
My wife and I lived, (rather survived), at Diamond Inn in 1991. I can't believe that place is still open.
You guys should of voted Laxalt in too then.
Respect to the people who built and run that community center.
Arguably one of Jacob’s best videos ever, both in terms of content and quality. And we know he has done a lot of great ones!
It is sad and maddening how you have more bad than good areas in Las Vegas. It is like the beauty of the strip masks everything.
The amount of effort you put in this video deserves atleast 4 major jackpots on your next livestream with Yely
I love when people who have never lived here for any real amount of time describe the "bad" parts of our city
I think West Tropicana after crossing the I-15 Bridge, all the way down to Orleans is sketchy
Lives in the tunnels. Smokes the pipe. You tried.
Typical Vegas story.. I'm sorry. :(
Jacob, the man giving the real life view of LV.
That’s crazy! Every time I’ve been to Vegas, I’ve stopped at that 7-11 in the middle of the night numerous times.
Excellent video. I feel I'm there with you. And your commentary is always illuminating. Never annoying or silly.
Sad.
Taking a bath in the Mirage Volcano pool...that is pretty smart, with all that clean swimming pool water.
What is a "TI "?

When Ballys had fountains in front (before tearing them out for the Bazaar) I would see the homeless washing their socks and underwear in them early mornings.
I've always found Vegas to be extremely safe until visiting this year (my 7th trip), downtown now feels a lot more sketchy and the strip is littered with homeless who are a lot more brazen and in your face than they've ever been. Going back in time I walked the area behind the strat back in 2007, it felt a bit more run down but was very safe still in those times at least I felt safe.
What is the cause of their brazenness?
Drugs
These videos just keep getting better - quality and content. You can tell a lot of work and thought goes into these. You can cover a wide variety of topics and do a great job on each. Thank you.
Los Angeles used to have a huge homeless population. Mayor Bass came in and started calling them "un-housed." No more homeless in LA.
Which neighborhoods or areas of Tacoma and Seattle feel unsafe? Is it the homeless people?
💯
uve got to be kidding. just look at the local news and theres stabbing and shooting almost daily and most of it are on the east and north side of town. u cant be this naive . ur gona get tourists hurt or robbed if u dont steer them away from the bad areas.
It's not always about the choices people make that lead them to those situations.. that generalization is very narrow minded.
@@laurend8140 Not that narrow minded. Your saying ‘not always’ shows that.
Some things increase the odds of being a loser. As all Vegas visitors know.
Well that’s scary as hell
Did you ever get your food?
WTF was up with that burnt pizza? Had to pause video lol
Hey Jacob, I know you may not have time to read this comment but I really want to thank you taking time in detail explaining/touring the areas the city itself does not mention. I'm watching this wondering how Jacob feels okay wandering these sketchy areas and filming. I've been to a few of these and wouldn't. Then I think I saw he was printing a bit at the appendix position, and it all made sense.
I came to see if anyone else noticed he was carrying.
Whole different world in such a small area. Thank you Jacob for sharing this.
It really is! Glad you enjoyed the video David!
