So very nice. Great interview. I was in a bar on a week night playing darts all alone back in 1996. I was the only long hair guy there. Suddenly this fella with a pink beard walked up to me and asked "Do they serve whiskey here?" I said yes as I was pulling the darts out of the board. He said "Let me buy you a drink!' We drank, sang karaoke together (Sweet Home Alabama...his choice. I live in Jacksonville Fl). Drove around my city in my Toyota Corolla while he kept changing cassettes, ate Krystals, and drove him back to his hotel. I got home around 6 am (my wife was pissed). Two days later at the show, when he saw me backstage, he ran and and hugged me and my wife, he told her "your man saved my ass last night, he's good people!" Dime was amazing, such a genuine guy, no ego. He is truly missd
I talked to her last year at a Pantera show for about 20 minutes. I had several questions about Dime and she answered them for me. I also did two Blacktooth's with Rita. She was so sweet and as cool as she is in this interview. 🥱
Rita and Dime seemed like great people to be friends with their house is so rad Dime really lived that rockstar life but he wasn’t arrogant he was an open book
1992 Hollywood Palladium. Crowbar opened, White Zombie next then Pantera. I'll never forget it. After White Zombie was done, right before Pantera came out Dime was standing on the right side of the stage where nobody could see him unless you walked around the stage to that side. He was standing there warming up doing scales and I don't know what else..My and my buddies kid were standing 5 feet from him just mesmerized. We're both guitar players. He finally looked over at us and flipped both of us picks. Jim Dunlop heavy. He made 2 young guys very happy that night and all i used from then on were Jim Dunlop heavy.
The last time I saw Dime was at the Palladium... He was doing the Damageplan thing and Zakk Wylde was there and I was hanging out by the buses drinking with the Kat, Zakk and a few others, I saw Dime still doing something in the back of the venue... I Yelled at him want a Coors Light bud, He said ya when he's done... I ended up having to take off b4 we could hang and have that beer... It was 1 month later he was stolen from us... And I wish I had stayed and gave him that beer, I just thought next time he cruzed thru our city, I'd connect and we'd have that beer... So I still owe him a COOR'S LIGHT... Miss that dude so much... 🤘😎🍻
This was a really nice hour spent. I got to meet Dime on the Vulgar Display tour and met Rita about 8 years ago. Dime was just so on the level with us fans, no ego at all. Rita was as sincere and sweet as can be, not to mention so dignified and graceful with all that she's been through. Much love and respect.
This was really great. Rita absolutely needs to do more podcasts……she’s great at telling stories and she’s obviously done a lot of cool shit in her life.
One thing I hate is we'll never get to see Dime in the social media area. He would have been a GREAT UA-camr/streamer being considered an 'o.g.' vlogger. Dime would have been PERFECT for that!
No, don’t give him a chance to cancel himself, its better he didnt. He would have LOVED the guitar toys that have been invented in the last 20 years. Digital modeling has come a long way
You got Rita on?!?!? holy smokes. Used to watch Three Sheets to the Wind back in the day Zane. Great show. Having some drinks while watching it made me feel like I was drinking with ya. Gotta check out the Black Tooth drinks soon! You the man! Pantera and Dime were a huge influence on my guitar playing. Rock on dude. 🍻Finished hearing... i remember the the night Dime was killed...2004 i believe. December... listened to Rita from here... i cried, my best friends met up and we weeped/drank. 😔... i'll never forget that night.... all of us who knew about Dime knew how cool he was, amazingly funny dude, fun loving rocker. 🥺. That is all.
God bless Rita, i am a pantera fan play guitar because of CFH, met Dime in 04 at earthday birthday in orlando fl. With damageplan and couldnt get into autograph line then dime stopped the line to sign my homemade dime shirt and he was the coolest guy, it made my day. Dime rules !
So glad I got to meet Rita about 10 years ago at Mayhem Fest. She was there promoting Dime Hardware and not many people were stopping, so I got talk to her about Dime and his inspiration to me with playing guitar for like 10 minutes. Awesome person and it made her smile having that conversation. Still have the picture with her too 🤘🏻
This was awesome! I miss both Dime and Vinnie. I seen Pantera last year knowing it’s not the same no doubt, but to hear those songs again brought tears to my eyes. Pantera was so groundbreaking in my life, like to so many other peeps
Great interview. I was one of those “kids” who waited by the bus every time they played my town. Skipped my night school class the first time they came around, used a fake ID to get in. It changed my life. This wasn’t my dad’s or my older brother’s music. This was something new for the 90’s and all mine. I remember my friends and I driving around the east coast to see Pantera 4 times in one week. On the 3rd night, Dime said “weren’t you mfers here last night”? We said yep, see you at the next show too. He said “these guys need a shot”. LOL I’ve been to hundreds of shows since Dime was taken from us but never again felt the sense of brotherhood and experienced the downright craziness that I did at those Pantera shows.
I skipped the first day of 11th grade to go see em down in Mass with White Zombie. 96. Im pickin up what you are puttin down man, Tampora were for us at our time. They waved the flag and kept marching. I see youtuber's now shittin on em, calling it mainstream " sellout" walmart metal or some shit...basically saying they have no cred because it wasnt underground or " Kvlt". What a bunch of horseshit. The world was a lot different before everything was at the click of the fingers on keyboard. Seems to me like things meant more, or actually mattered. Im probably just old and in the way.
That was so good!! I used to see Pantera in Texas before they got famous, but I never got to meet Dime until they opened for Skid Row in early '92. He was out "circulating" by the concessions just like Rita talked about. He was the nicest, most coolest guy ever. We just talked a lot about Dead Horse because we both had a Dead Horse shirt on, and a couple other Houston bands. The only other famous guitarist I've met is Eddie Van Halen. And as most of you know, Eddie placed one of his famous guitars in Dime's grave. Thanks for sharing your story, Rita! And thank you Zane! Btw, I met you in Houston too. lol
Dime was just one of those guitarists where you just cant replicate him. He created his own style of playing, his energy couldn’t be matched, he was just unique. I genuinely believe he is in the top 3 best metal guitarists of all time
Got to meet her last year at rocklahoma. And it was like I told her, chilling with her and hearing the stories about dime was equally as near and dear as when I met dime back when I was kid in '95. Can't wait to meet her again and have shots of black tooth with her
Rita, you seem like a genuine person. I am a long time fan of dime.i am sorry for your loss,no matter how much time has passed since his untimely passing. Your smile is up lifting ..and I love what you are doing in dimes name!!
Thank you so much for doing this podcast and telling your and Dime’s story. Especially about that horrible day. As you were telling your experience of that horrible day I couldn’t help but tear up listing to you. It took me back to that next morning when I heard the news when I got to work. I felt paralyzed and didn’t know what to do. My hero was murdered. I had the pleasure of meeting Dime twice, once at one of his Randall clinics and the next after a show Pantera had finished playing on the RtS tour and both experiences were such a delight that I will never ever forget. Dime has been a huge influence in my life and he is still my hero at 47. Like many his guitar playing influenced me and my guitar playing to this day.Thank you so much for this Rita.
I've had the pleasure of meeting and hangin out with Rita. She is such a cool person and I really appreciate how easy to talk to she was. To me, she's a big star, but she never came across that way. She was one of my friends for that night. Always will appreciate that.
Dimbag Daryll was such a legend. I was in my high school welding class and I found out that he died from some of my classmates and we were all in shock. Its such a loss. Its up there with Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell and Chester Benington. Its just really sad. His broth Vinnie was also such a powerful drummer. Im sure he would be alive if Dimebag was alive.
Rita is such an awesome and noble person. I love this lady a whole lot. Its awesome that phillip pushed dime and rita onwards to be together. LORDS UNMATCHED FOREVER ON AND ON AND FORWARD ! STRONGER than all. 💚💚👈👈!! .... This Love indeed.
I've waited to hear Rita speak once she was ready since the day we lost Dime. It was so great to hear her stories and really awesome to hear how Dime spoke those last words to her. Thanks for this podcast Zane. Really great conversation and thank you for sharing Rita. Congrats on 'Black Tooth' nice work.
I still can't believe how he was taken from us. I never got to see him live and have no cool stories to tell, unfortunately. But I am 100% certain he was the most awesome dude because I feel like he is actually a brother of mine through his music. RIP legend.
I have like 3 Dime stories, but the best one was back in the Power Metal times. we would go see them at a club called Metal Works in Arlington. Dime used to DJ between their sets. He had left to go get ready for the last set, and another guy took over. I was asking him to play Can You Deliver by Armored Saint. Then another song came on. It wasn't the song I requested, so I would ask again. The guy never played it. Then Pantera came out for their set and played Can you Deliver! I was yelling they played that for me! Lol, then when the solo came up, Dime got down off stage and got up on my table where we were at hanging. He ripped that solo so bad ass right in my face! I knew then it was for me. Later that night, he came up to me and stuck out his hand with 4 joints. Dime said, "You want to buy some joints? I wish I had them today in a glass frame. Dime was such a great guitar player and entertainer and remained approachable even after they reached world status! Love him! RIP Dime, getcha pull!!!
right? He didn't even get the man's death year right like WTF. Also IDK if it's just me but I feel like he was very crass about it how he brought it up.
Very cool interview I could listen to her stories all day long..I’m so glad n feel so blessed to hv seen Pantera in Fayetteville nc back in the day..coal chamber, machine head and Pantera what an awesome show..
Yeah I’m suprised there’s not more comments about this, seems very uneducated about the subject matter and also up his own ass way too much, like a lot of podcast hosts unfortunately.
I partied with Pantera many times. I had a standing VIP pass. Those after show parties were pure awesome! Those were the most down to earth guys. They let me bring as many friends with me as I wanted, too. I never brought more than 3. Dime was absolutely faithful. He'd joke around, but didn't cross lines. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Only got to see Pantera twice. First time was Ozzfest 97 in Virginia. Crowd went bonkers and tore the grass field up, and Pantera got banned from the venue. Second time was about 2000 on the Reinventing the Steel tour. Me and 3 friends drove from San Fran to San Jose with no tickets, and people outside the venue wanted more money than we could afford for tickets. On our sad walk back to the car, we found an unmarked door. We walked inside, and it led straight to backstage. We walked through like we belonged there, walked onto the stage and down onto the floor and enjoyed a great Pantera show free of charge!!!
Zane, that was fantastic. Great idea havin Dimebag's hag on with you, Rockin' Rita is the greatest. I used to watch them at houston shows in the 80's and just before they hit it big with Cowboys from hell. Last time Pantera played Houston was at the Astroarena and the packed it and we went backstage afterward and hung out with Dime, Rex and Vince. It was absolutely amazing. I miss those days because I would see Dime n Vince at the Woodlands pavillion at th BLS/Judas Priest show, actually sept. 7th 2004, and that was the last time I saw and hung out with Zakk, Dime and Vince. I hung outside the Galaxy in Deep Ellum after the Thin Lizzy show and Dime n Zakk came out back to hang and Tommy Aldridge, John Sykes etc. in 2003. Lots of cool memories, Dimetime is a sacred time every day. Gotta remember it. Gitcher pull on that rig.
I still love hearing stories about Dimebag....Thank you Rita Haney for keeping his spirits alive....I will buy some black teeth grin in his honor 🤘🤘🤘🥃🥃🥃
Thank you Rita! I’m sad you had to go through that interview. You did great, the interviewer should have done his research and been much more respectful of your time sharing such an emotional moment of your life.

Dime was such a solid dude. Image both brothers trusted Rita enough to leave their legacy in her capable hands. Miss you Dime-nobody played like you brother. RIP.
5 minutes in I'm hooked..thank you for putting this together ...I got to see Rita in Milwaukee for the pantera celebration and it was the cherry on top of a great night
I was very fortunate to meet Rita at welcome to Rockville this last year she made a black tooth grin for my friend who was with me I don't drink so I bought one for him so I could get the cup it was very cool the tent they had set up it had a bunch of merchandise and some of his iconic guitars And rita was making people drinks I never got to meet dime I seen Pantera 5 times before the break up but was never fortunate enough to meet him and Vinny so it was cool to get to meet dimes other half I really miss him he's like a family member that u never got to meet but you love same with Vinnie Paul I know that they are in heaven hanging out with Eddie Van Halen and cliff burton rip brothers thanks for all the great music u guys wrote the soundtrack to my life
So great to see this,I love Rita, hearing kind of how her relationship with dime started and hearing all these stories was so dope and refreshing, she should do a podcast of her own,so sad that the last of the Abbott family(atleast that I know of.)Jerry passed away, but the legacy that family left behind will never be forgotten long live the Abotts and Pantera,Damageplan, and Hellyeah!gotta have me a blacktooth!Getcha pull!
Wow this was an amazing episode. They went through everything together. I have always felt for Rita ever since I read a book on Dimes Life. They truly loved each other.
Like some Pantera songs. Always liked Dime cause he loved my big 3 - EVH, Randy and Ace. Southern born and raised myself. Dime could've been from Westside Charlotte - good, solid hell-raising folk. Anyway, same age and just felt a connection. Wish I could have met him. Rita - what a great interview. Looking good and at 58 - that ain't easy!
i met rita at the dime hardwear booth 8/6/23 and ill never forget it, complete coincidence as i was asking if she was around and got told no because she as feeding the cats (on tour LMAO) i went to turn and take my loss but there she was coming out of the bus to come to the booth and came up and took a picture with me. greatest experience ever!!!!! hope shes at bezerkus!
There’s a classic clip of Darrel on stage playing new level, holdin a deadly harmonic squeal, grabs a lit dart off the headstock, takes a drag or pretended to and made it seem like it hard, kinda shaking in sync with the squeal, drops the dart and right back to shredding
@@chrisloud1976 Rita met Darrell in 1975 when they were both 8 and 9 years old. She and him were Huge KISS Fans in Elementary School and Van Halen Fanatics in High School, Rita brought him a VH T-Shirt for his HS graduation in 1984, he then brought her a Mint Copy of 1984 and a DLR Shirt for her Graduation in '85. When Darrell and Vincent started Pantera, Rita was the heavy inspiration for alot of the songs they'd write with Phil and Rex. Rita was both a Roadie and Queen Groupie.(Darrell ONLY allowed Rita to be in his lap,arm and was VERY devoted to her.) Rita often says "Maybe if I had known how lax the Security at the Alla Rosa was, I'd probably would have talked Darrell and Vinnie out of booking and playing there. His Death WAS preventable. This DIDN'T have to happen. It coulda been Averted. IF only they HAD Armed Security there, Darrell and 4 other innocent guys would still be here. I'm still Mad. The Club Owners were absolutely irresponsible and negligent."
@@Tornado1994Thanks for the reply Zane. I subbed to your channel. I really love anything Dimebag and hearing Rita talk is pretty awesome. Stay heavy 🤘🏻
I met her once at a convenience store in Arlington. She commented on a pair of pants I had that I had sewed on a Korn t-shirt and Pantera t shirt in the legs. They were pretty badass. 😁 Hope I bump into her again one day. She’s cool as shit.
This podcast was amazing, and Rita is a great storyteller. Man i got choked up when she did talking about Dime. He was such a great guitarist and funny human being, I still love watching his homemade videos. Hope to see Rita do more of these, as she has an amazing gift for it. RIP DIME you are missed! ❤
It's still sad ,every time you hear about it. He seemed to be such a good nature d soul . A thoughtful person so it seemed. Phenomenal talents , all four of them . A true original. Peace Abbotts there dad passed away this year in April.
Please remaster the home videos 🙏🏼 I’ve replaced mine twice and got jacked a third time, I bet they’d sell like crazy with how more mainstream metal is. I know I’d buy them all again, they blew me up every time i pu then on, pantera changed the course of my life, you could feel their energy through the tv and stereo, dime and vinnie had awesome vibes too, Phil gave me more of a conflicted vibe and Rex was somewhere in between. World of metal and music hasn’t felt the same without them 🤘🏼

Easily one of their best shows ever. The footage is on UA-cam, its incredible.
When I was 15 or 16 we would go see them at a place called joes garage in Fort Worth, TX. Thats before they got big..it was cool as hell

I wish this guy knew more about Dime. He could've asked more pertinent questions.
Every think maybe hes asking for those who don’t ?
right? He didn't even get the man's death year right like WTF. Also IDK if it's just me but I feel like he was very crass about it how he brought it up.
Thanks I don't have to say it. This guy knows nothing.
I agree, also it's a bit weird to open up literally with his death. Could have set it up a bit better
Yeah he definitely did not do his research
Zane got really lucky to have this opportunity
That was a great pod cast, I could listen to Rita for hours. Please do more!!!
I enjoyed this, haven't seen Rita this candid before. Wish the Host knew the most basic details about Dimebag tho.
Very cool interview I could listen to her stories all day long..I’m so glad n feel so blessed to hv seen Pantera in Fayetteville nc back in the day..coal chamber, machine head and Pantera what an awesome show..
I can listen to Dime stories all day. Plus, It's cool that your a comic music and comedy are my two favorite things.
Wow! Rita is still so strong after all these years!🤘
So pretty too!
Thank you Rita! We need a part 2. Roll with it or get rolled over!
i was 15 the first time i saw pantera. and i was devastated wen dimebag was killed, it still gets me time to time.
This woman should be protected at all costs...what a gem of a human, cool as fuck.
Thank you for being so open Rita. You rule dude 🤟🖤
This guy is interviewing Rita and doesn't even know Dime was killed on stage?
Yeah I’m suprised there’s not more comments about this, seems very uneducated about the subject matter and also up his own ass way too much, like a lot of podcast hosts unfortunately.
Nor the fact he was shot in 2004. No research
This is a beautiful conversation. Thank you Rita for sharing these stories with us, Dime will live forever in our hearts
We walked through like we belonged there, walked onto the stage and down onto the floor and enjoyed a great Pantera show free of charge!!!
i wish this ep lasted hourssss not just 1 i love dimebag and his stories im so happy that rita is pushing out his name still that’s dope
Incredible! Rita is awesome 🙌
I still love hearing stories about Dimebag....Thank you Rita Haney for keeping his spirits alive....I will buy some black teeth grin in his honor 🤘🤘🤘🥃🥃🥃
Not an eye dry for this. Thx😢.
RIP.
I love Rita, did a shot of whiskey with her last year in Columbus, Ohio! Much love ❤, getcha pull!
I was one of those kids waiting outside in 1998. Dime literally treated me like a little brother and I'll never forget that. Rest in power big bro \m/
5 minutes in I'm hooked..thank you for putting this together ...I got to see Rita in Milwaukee for the pantera celebration and it was the cherry on top of a great night
5 minutes alone

She's a Metal Queen!

ThRita Haney!! Awesome ❤
Every man needs the RIGHT woman and The Icon had his… His memory will never die nor will her love for him. #333 🍻
dude zane needs to invite Rita back for a heap of episodes. i could listen to Rita talk about Dimebag stories forever...
That shot game is awesome, drunk off love !!! Getcha pull.
Wow this was an amazing episode. They went through everything together. I have always felt for Rita ever since I read a book on Dimes Life. They truly loved each other.
This was special. She is special.
This is awesome dude. I wish more people would interview Rita more. Shes still a fun loving sweetheart . RIP Darrell !!
Fantastic interview 👍
Like some Pantera songs. Always liked Dime cause he loved my big 3 - EVH, Randy and Ace. Southern born and raised myself. Dime could've been from Westside Charlotte - good, solid hell-raising folk. Anyway, same age and just felt a connection. Wish I could have met him.
Rita - what a great interview. Looking good and at 58 - that ain't easy!
Thoroughly enjoyed this video! Thanks to both of you!
God bless Rita. She's done such a great job keeping Dimes legacy alive.
i met rita at the dime hardwear booth 8/6/23 and ill never forget it, complete coincidence as i was asking if she was around and got told no because she as feeding the cats (on tour LMAO) i went to turn and take my loss but there she was coming out of the bus to come to the booth and came up and took a picture with me. greatest experience ever!!!!! hope shes at bezerkus!
There’s a classic clip of Darrel on stage playing new level, holdin a deadly harmonic squeal, grabs a lit dart off the headstock, takes a drag or pretended to and made it seem like it hard, kinda shaking in sync with the squeal, drops the dart and right back to shredding
Pro tip: Always keep your liquor and mixers at room temp and use a lot of ice. The ice will melt and you'll be hydrated as you drink.
Thank you for the insights, Dime & Pantera have been and still are such a huge part of my life
We need more Rita stories please
Fanatical about hygiene, but was best friends with Zakk Wylde.
Paradoxical.
Really enjoyed this. Rita is cool!!! Gotta love true southern folks! There's still a few of us out there! - with love from NC.
Loved the interview with Rita and seeing Zane still making it happen!
Amazing interview, really touching. It’s amazing how she was an integral part of Dime’s sound 🤘
No she wasn't
@@shamelesskindness how do you know?
@@chrisloud1976don't give that clown a podium. He's hating all over on the comments.
Watching this, it just occurred to me that it’s been twenty years!!! I remember hearing the news like it was yesterday. 😢
:( bless this woman.
It still haunts her what happened that day.
She's very very strong for talking about that tragic day.
I must’ve seen Pantera 10 times while living in Phoenix from 95 to 2001. Mesa Amphitheater and Compton terrace were amazing memories.
World of metal and music hasn’t felt the same without them 🤘🏼
Met her at Metal Mayhem festival round 2010 or so. Stopped what she was doing at her booth to give me a hug an lemme take a few pics. Awesome lady.
