I have been using air brushes on models for well over 40 years now, and I must say that this short video of yours was very well done. Your explanations of the problems and the solutions were well done. Keep up the great work my friend, and I am looking forwards to more model videos from you. :-)
if you are new to airbrushing i highly recommend vallejo's line of paints that are pre-diluted and ready for airbrush from the bottle, it can save lots of time too
I can't tell you how many times I find myself rewatching this video. It really helped me work out my air brush problems and my painting has greatly improved. Thank you
This is the only video that i found that actually shows one next to each other the common mistakes and why they happen! You should put it on the title or description cause a lot of people is searching for that. Thank you
I have seen this video 2-3 times, but have just read some of the comments, he speaks very good English abd his pronunciation is perfect, well done and keep these videos coming.
Hi David, that was a excellent tutorial, I have been using Tamiya paints for a while now and enjoy using them, and find any mistakes are down to me. I pre-thin a jar of Tamiya paint and have another of the same colour as standard, I thin the paint as per Andy Klein from Andy's Hobby Headquarters, and it work great, I am currently working on a Tamiya 1/48th FW-190, best regards from Australia.
Very nice. I'll pass along something that I tried just today. I was having a problem I could not resolve. it was either clogging or dry tip and no matter how tried to clean the brush and tip I could not get it to function properly. Pulling things apart right down to the spring and needle it all looked clean there was no obvious reason. Finally, I threw all the parts in an ultrasonic cleaner with the brush for a half-hour using just soap and water. When done all was working as new.
Thank for sharing, seen only today due to youtube algorithms.. Very interesting video i'll look for other tutorials made by you on painting with airbrushes!
Thank you very very much indeed. I have done most of those mistakes and never really understood what I did wrong, but now I know and can hopefully avoid any more mistakes. And even if I do make a mistake, I will know what I have done wrong and how to put it right again. Thank you so much.
excellent video! I have made all of these mistakes! One question: In Tamiya kits, when they show multiple paints being mixed with ratios, is the second number in the ratio thinner? For example, if it says some like X-2 (23:8), does that mean 23 parts paint to 8 parts thinner?
This is amazing !!! A very, very great Explanation. I could have used that when i started. But this gonna help a lot ! of Beginners. Thank you very much
After trying for literally years to get a good feathered edge for camo patterns (German WW2 and Russian middle east, Yom kipper war etc) the clay is the way to go, for me.. even with an Iwata, lowering the pressure, thinning the paint etc. it still makes spatters where you don;t want them to. So you have to go back and retouch, either with a brush (usually defeating the purpose) or the airbrush again, which of course, just makes more different colored spatters... where you dont want em... With the clay you can still ge a good feathered edge, just mold the top part out a little over so yu make a "shelf" and spray from directly above, not the side (so you don;t make too sharp an edge) the r esults are very pleasing and - no do-overs.
Fantastic video. I'm very curious where I could get a plastic sheet like that? Will any plastic do or is it possible to get the same plastic used in kits?
Hi Plasmo! Thanks for sharing great content. I'm having a hard time choosing between Tamiya and Vallejo Air through a 0.35mm airbrush. Which do you recommend?
Idk if that drying retarder from tamiya works with all acyrlics. Watched my local hobby shop guy test it on GW paints and it left clumps after shaking the bottle it was mixed into. My suggestion when using Vallejo and citadel non air paints, use vallejo airbrush flow improver. Its golden for getting those paints to flow well.
Hey David, I found this video really useful as I'm getting an airbrush in the mail soon. I have a question that you may not be able to answer but I think you're my best chance. If I'm spraying a coat of gloss or Matt varnish, does it need to still be thinned? Cheers, Archie
Ahoj Dávid. Obdivujem tvoje skilly a musím povedať, že veľmi mi tvoje videá pomáhajú. Snáď nenájdem jedno, z ktorého by som si niečo pre seba do budúcnosti nevzal, preto prosím ťa vydrž a rob naďalej to čo robíš. Je to úžasné! Zaujímalo by ma, ako postupuješ pri miešaní farieb v určitom pomere. V tvojich videách step by step, i vo všeobecnosti v návodoch, sa často miešajú farby v istom pomere aby vznikla výsledná napr. kamuflážna farba. Oliver
Thank you for a good guide. Could you touch on why you use tamiya and not acrylics without alcohol from say AK, Mig or Vallejo? They have dropper bottles and pre-mixed colors. I have more or less given up on them myself due to dry tip, but others have great success. Wanted to get your input.
i find it to be pretty solid information in not too much time, i like that. I'm trying to learn aibrushing with a cheap airbrush and compressor without pressure control.... it looks easy, but really isn't.
Tamiya 20A Acrylic Thinner is basically Denatured Alcohol (called methylated spirits in Europe). I've been shooting Tamiya acrylic paints thinned 3 parts paint to 2 parts alcohol out of my Badger .5mm and it flows like butter.
Just one question, I'm new in airbrushing and spent a lot of time with thinning acrylic paints. Now, my problem is that during spraying the paint covers the plastic with a lot of small dots. It looks very bad, Where is the problem? Where is my mistake - Thanks
hi It is great tutorial for airbrushing beginner like me, at least now i know where i was making the mistake. Keep coming such tutorial as it gives a great amount of learning for the new comers. Thanks for sharing your post. Regards, Raghubir
When i use white, the paint is diluted right, but it still splatters and barely comes out. Every time i pull back with the trigger, the front tip instantly is covered with paint, and i have to rub it off, help!! It also only splatters, and i couldnt get the first common mistake, did you mean pull back trigger too much and too low pressure?
Hi. Hope you can help me. My airbrush did not work ok. After painting i did some cleaning like every time but now when I start compresor air dont come throught the top of the gun like normal. Air is coming throught trigger compartment.
Hello, I have an Airbrush Iwata and the problem is when I want to make a fine line I can't get the color out and when I press the trigger more a lot of color comes out, please help me, thanks

So you're okay with paying a premium for watered-down paint? 🤔
@@Chilly_Billy if you are new to air brushing yes. But if you’re more experienced then Tamiya is the way to go.
@@Chilly_Billy "paying a premium" is subjective. What YOU are willing to pay is different from what others are willing to pay.
Its absolute dog shit, for detailed painting you definetely need to thin it more. and add retarder, so you will be forced to learn mixing anyway
I can't tell you how many times I find myself rewatching this video. It really helped me work out my air brush problems and my painting has greatly improved. Thank you
This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you.
Thanks for the tutorial. Its great that you have demonstrated each mistake and more importantly shown how to correct it.
This is the only video that i found that actually shows one next to each other the common mistakes and why they happen! You should put it on the title or description cause a lot of people is searching for that. Thank you
correctly, accurate , simply put, no fussing around , understandable, and - VERY HELPFUL ! thanks!!
I have seen this video 2-3 times, but have just read some of the comments, he speaks very good English abd his pronunciation is perfect, well done and keep these videos coming.
Thank you! This provided the answers I needed to correct my errors as a beginner in air brushing.
Thanks David, brilliant tutorial, just what I needed, thank you.
Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for as I begin with the airbrush. Much appreciated.
Thanks, I managed to re-create all the basic mistakes, now onto the next part!
Hi David, that was a excellent tutorial, I have been using Tamiya paints for a while now and enjoy using them, and find any mistakes are down to me. Just wanted to tell you that this video changed everything for me. Thank you so much.
Thank you! That last tip was an excellent one!
This video immediately solved the problems I was having with my attempts at airbrushing. Can’t thank you enough for such a concise and clear video
Newbie here, thanks to this video I realized I was making the mistake of not layering! Thankyou!
This is exactly what I was looking for! My paint was too thin, it was awful... Now it flows perfectly, thanks to you. :)
Excellent tutorial - after many many years of using brushes I've bought an airbrush and this is very helpful for a beginner like me
Thanks for your help in this filmi it has finally sorted out all of my problems many thanks
Thank you for this video.im still learning how to correct mistakes and your video is a huge help!
I've been struggeling with the right mix for months. This will help me to finally figure it out!
You want it to generally be about the consistency of semi skimmed milk.
it depends on the milk producers and the country of origin. :-D
A very good and informative no-nonsense clip. Many thanks!
Thank for sharing, seen only today due to youtube algorithms..
Very interesting video i'll look for other tutorials made by you on painting with airbrushes!
For as long as you can see tutorials, your hand will always make the difference.
This is very helpful. Thankyou as always.

Excellent! If I'd had this when I started airbrushing things would have been much easier. It really helps to see examples of the mistakes.
Great tutorial! Showing mistakes first is very informative.
Thanks, this is great. It answers some of the issues that I've had that I couldn't' figure out for myself nor find the answer easily online.
may, many thanks for this. i have never used an airbrush and am considering buying one. this tutorial is a great help.
Super, David!! Thanks, finally someone who explain the stuff one really needs!!
Thank you for the excellent method's, I will be following closely. BIG THUMBS UP 👍😎👍
Výborný tutoriál, Davide, díky. Dělám sice hlavně RC, ale sem tam nějaký díl airbrushem stříknu, takže pro mě to jsou užitečné tipy.
This is amazing !!! A very, very great Explanation. I could have used that when i started. But this gonna help a lot ! of Beginners. Thank you very much
brilliaint vid ive turnd down the pressure and started using multiple layers do keep posting many thanks
Love your videos. Very informative, and professionally put together! Thanks for making my models better!
What is a good airbrush to use I am a beginner and have watched your videos for some time now
Great video David! Now I understand the process more clearly.

Thanks for filming this, Good tips for someone newish to an Airbrush. Have taken some tips from your work
Excellent, really helpful. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Čest práci, dobrý video, přesně to, co jsem hledal několik dní.
Fantastic video. I'm very curious where I could get a plastic sheet like that? Will any plastic do or is it possible to get the same plastic used in kits?
Interesting info for when I eventually add an airbrush to my tool set. Thanks.
Hi Plasmo! Thanks for sharing great content. I'm having a hard time choosing between Tamiya and Vallejo Air through a 0.35mm airbrush. Which do you recommend?
Use Tamiya, Gunze C, Hataka Orange Line, MRP paints
Thanks! My stuff is still in the mail but I didn’t know you could over thin paint.
Very good tutorial. Thank you!
Excellent and too the point! Great demonstrstion!
Idk if that drying retarder from tamiya works with all acyrlics. Watched my local hobby shop guy test it on GW paints and it left clumps after shaking the bottle it was mixed into.

Thank you sir, very helpful to see it happening!
hey i just got an airbrush and it helped a lot watching this video
Very awesome! This video, I hope, helps me with getting the right ratio and how to tell. New to this, and that seems to help alot!
Great video, with good examples! Thank you for these tips!
Thank you for this video, making it so precise and understandable...
Do you use the acrylic gloss for the purpose of decal application?? Then finish off with the flat/matt finishes once weathered??
Helps a lot
Great tutorial video
Thanks for making this video. Very helpful.
Great video! if i want to provoke the second mistake (the one with too high pressure) is it only too high pressure or is there something else?
I've used 100% Isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol) for thinning Tamiya Acrylics for airbrushing. Works great.
I have found sometimes spraying with only air, you can dry paint very quickly.
Very helpful tips. Thank you kindly.
Hey David, I found this video really useful as I'm getting an airbrush in the mail soon. I have a question that you may not be able to answer but I think you're my best chance. If I'm spraying a coat of gloss or Matt varnish, does it need to still be thinned?

Thank you for this. I just started on airbrush.
Very good tutorial, helps me a lot :)
Hi David. thanks for that. I may have missed it but what size needle are you using in your Infinity?

It is great tutorial for airbrushing beginner like me, at least now i know where i was making the mistake. Keep coming such tutorial as it gives a great amount of learning for the new comers.
Thanks for sharing your post.
Regards, Raghubir
I'm Bald. Do I have to use a Hair Dryer.? It seems a bit mean to have to. Can I just use a Fan?
I would like to hear what you have to say about using Lacquer thinner to thin with the Tamiya acrylics.
Sooooo is it enamel paint or acrylic paint being used?
very helpful David
thank you
Thank you really helps a lot for us new comers
Really very good advices.
Thank you very much.... I have no experience on airbrushing!
Excellent no B*****t tutorial, SHOWING what NOT to do - THANKS !!!!!
Very useful, thank you.
