    Thanks Emil. This was a very comprehensive and informative video. One thing I might mention is that if you’re using any paint or ink in your airbrush you should use a mask or respirator. Even non toxic paints and inks can affect your respiratory system if inhaled. Especially if you have asthma or some other respiratory issue. I can attest to this first hand because I have respiratory failure. My lungs cannot absorb oxygen as well as normal or get rid of carbon dioxide. I got this because of particulate exposure. Trust me when I say you don’t want to mess with your respiratory system. Always use protection when dealing with fine particulates.

    • @hav6301
      @hav6301 Рік тому

      you got that from airbrushing? heck, which mask do you recommend?

    • @RuthlessMojo
      @RuthlessMojo Рік тому +22

      @@hav6301 I would recommend you use a respirator, one that has a carbon filter rated for chemical exposure. Normal face masks won’t protect against very small particles or gasses. Everytime you use glue, epoxy, cleaning chemicals or anything else that’s toxic you should wear it. If you 3D print with resin you should wear a respirator while handling resin. These particulates will build up in your lungs over time and destroy the lining of your lungs and your alveolar sacs slowly suffocating you. Also if you smoke consider giving up. I smoked for many years and it has not helped my health.

    • @hav6301
      @hav6301 Рік тому

      Don't smoke, only airbrush acrylics

      I agree, using a mask is best practice when atomizing anything in the air. I doubt you’ll get sick immediately, but years of airbrush use even with just acrylic paint could be detrimental to your health.

    21:00 - Mixing paint. The best advice I have seen (especially for a beginner) is to mix outside the cup in a clean container until you know what you are doing (so you don't damage your airbrush) and the mix should be thin enough that when you drag it up the side of your container it flows back down the side straight away. It shouldn't sit on the side in a droplet. Use a brush or whatever you are using to mix with, coat it with the mixed thined paint and touch the side of your container briefly. If it runs straight down the side then you are good to go. If it sits there in a droplet, it could use a little more thinner.
    Also, not sure if you mention it, but there are some good recipes out there for thinner and cleaner that are waaaaaay cheaper and worth looking at if you want an airbrush without spending tons.

    • @Wayneawebb
      @Wayneawebb 4 місяці тому

      "there are some good recipes out there for thinner and cleaner that are waaaaaay cheaper and worth looking at if you want an airbrush without spending tons." This is only recommended if you are a highly trained Chemist who knows that they are doing.. Consider all the other equipment you will need for brewing these concoctions.... The cost would be greater than ready made thinners & cleaners.

    I got my HS Evolution about 15 years ago and I'm still using it. My husband got an HS Infinity last year. It's really a testament to the quality and design of the HS airbrushes that they're still going strong. My only real regret is spending several years learning how to use the airbrush myself because we didn't have these resources back then.

    Very useful video. Getting a very cheap brush first is a big mistake as you never know if you are doing something wrong or if it is the brush. An Ultra is an ideal beginner brush as the seals won't degrade if you use anything other than water based. The Evo is great - love it. Have a few cheap brushes for specific jobs like gloss or metallic paints.

    I think one thing worth mentioning when using water for thinning and cleaning is to use distilled water esp if you are using superfine nozzles and your local tapwater is rather hard!
    another is to sometimes check local cosmetic/health supply sections and stores. Nailart, makeup, dental etc they sometimes have really small applicators like brushes and teenytiny q-tips, ipa, finger-gloves, acupuncture needles etc (and resinrelated sculpting supplies…)

    Iwata Eclipse Takumi hp-sbs or the Eclipse hp-cs and you are done !! Best atomization. Best trigger response. Best trigger accuracy. Best feel. Most durable needle design. Easiest to clean, and gets very fine detail when paints are properly reduced for detail. The H&S is also good but the needle can be bent easily in comparison for a beginner.

    first airbrush (and presently only one for the moment) I got was a cheap one with an air compressor like the one showed in this vid. think I paid $70 for it? maybe less. Anyways, only thing I've used it for so far is base coating, but good lord was that enough for me as a start. I had been painting my T'au by hand, and it was alright for a bit, but it is tedious work at times. I got my airbrush and did a comparison of base coating two crisis suits, one with the airbrush, one by hand. Night and day difference. I finished two crisis suits in under half the time it took me to hand coat the first, and it applied so much smoother. No bush strokes anywhere (obviously) and it got into all the little spaces that takes me time and patience to do by hand without ruining a brush or needing to squeeze my brush into odd angles. looking into ways to do the second layer or possibly do glow effects, and yea, I know I'm using the low end of tools and will have to work harder to get good results, but I can already tell that even with lower ends tools I'm still saving myself a ton of time and opening new options that I either couldn't do, or would need to put far more effort into obtaining with a standard brush set. Also, not on a miniatures note, great for terrain that requires a little less finesse for (most) of it.

    I bought one of the super cheap options from temu. It came with the airbrush, 3 paint cups of different sizes, cleaning and disassembly tools, a curly air extension tube AND compressor with 3 different psi settings 22, 26, and 36psi. I figured out how to thin the paint and make quick work of some stencils i wanted on some 3d printed Fallout game armor with minimal issues. Oh ya and all for under $25 bucks. It works great and is easy to clean.

    Use make-up sponges to clean your airbrush verse Q-tips. I've never had anything leftover, and you can get q-tip sizes make-up sponges. I do have an ultra sonic, but it's rare if I need to drop it into that, I use it for cleaning up paint from previous owners of said model.
    Regardless amazing tips, and I will be pointing many to this video!! Awesome job!
