    Thank you to everyone for your love, support, encouragement, and understanding of my decision to walk away from this channel. This was not an easy decision to make but it was time to make changes for my own personal growth. You all have had the privilege of watching me grow and develop thru college, beauty school, business, and ultimately, life and it has been a privilege for me to be able to share with all of you. Know that each and every one of you have made an incredible impact on my life that has helped me reach heights I never knew was possible for me. There were so many people in my personal life (friends & family) that told me I couldn't do it, that didn't believe in me or just denied me the support I so desperately wanted. I know in my videos I would come off so self-assured and confident, but even the most confident of people experience moments of weakness and insecurities. Whenever I experienced those moments, you all were there to remind me of how far I had come and how much farther I had left to go. As I reach the end of this comment, I find myself tearing up because I didn't realize just how INCREDIBLY BLESSED I am to have such overwhelming love and support from so many. I can't thank you all enough, but thank you again for everything you have done for me.
    With all my love,
    ~ Narada "AfrikanHairGod" Hayes

      Hi Narada! You are so right! I thank you for sharing with me your vast knowledge and humour in natural hair care. Because of your tutorials, I learned how to install kinky twists in my hair (the correct way) and save my hair, as well as money! I am very proud of you and I wish you all the best in your career and endeavours! Peace and love...

    I don't blame you for not wanting to continue doing videos on this channel. The whole community is just a joke now. All these silly ass videos of wasting products. Overpriced products and changing of formulas. We've all seen channels that have no business being successful but yet they are due to aesthetics.
    I really hope your salon continues to grow as it has been. Rather see you happy and growing your business more and more.
    See you on your gaming channel 💜💜

      ksha. Right. The antics to increase subscribers is so ridiculous. AHG was never a part of that madness. I wrote to one vlogger that she not only made most videos to sell something, but that the products she would promote would always be the most expensive ones. Everybody ain't working making a bunch of money. Hell, I did but now I'm retired.

    I know, exactly, how you feel, especially, since I am an O.G. natural hair channel. I almost quit my channel last year, but, decided to implement new content, instead. My goal was to get my natural hair, healthy and waist length. It's healthy and almost waist length and it's, like, now what? I'm going to stick it out a little bit longer, because, it's my outlet from my annoying full-time job. I am happy, I met you in Atlanta a couple of years, ago. Farewell to you:)

  • @colbykamilah
    @colbykamilah 6 років тому +61

    The Natural hair community here on UA-cam is very superficial now. I think capitalism and corporate entities have done us a disservice, because they constantly send free products to UA-camrs, and the You tuber's just make pointless videos of them using products that they would never purchase with their own money. I think Natural hair is a personal experience, and you cannot look to others to fully educate you on your own hair, you have to learn how to do it on your own, so UA-cam isn't necessary, it's helpful but not necessary for one's own journey.

    • @elizabethprouddolllover641

      Colby Kamilah amen. I just noticed. Even in hair groups. It's like ever time I see a upload or post it's, their new product is my favorite 😒 it seems to be so fake now. Keeping up with the new trend, wigs, bleaching hair. Sad

      Colby Kamilah, I remember years ago UA-cam natural hair channels were big on products, products, products. When I look back, those videos did work from an advertising standpoint to get us (or me) to buy all those creams and gels. I stopped watching the videos for a couple years and stopped using all those products and wouldn't you know my hair flourished. Now, coming back and hearing AfrikanHairGod, I totally understand where he is coming from.

      I have been natural since 2009. I too, feel that the natural hair community has really changed since then. When I first went natural, the message was about accepting the hair that grows out of your scalp. But I feel like the newer crop of naturals really haven't accepted their hair. I noticed the trend of the overdone baby hairs. I was through when some of them started relaxing their edges for the slayed baby hair look. Also, it's so much more commercialized than it was back when I first went natural. These companies would send the vloggers products to promote on their channels. All the vloggers would say this is their new favorite product. They always like the product etc., etc. But back in the day when things weren't so commercialized, the vloggers seem more truthful and would let you know if they didn't like a product or it didn't work for them.

    • @knittingarch
      @knittingarch 6 років тому +3

      Agreed! And almost all of the people I watched ended up cutting off a bunch of hair because of all the products they felt they needed to use for sponsors. Like, Naptural85 :( I guess people thought her homemade formulas were boring, but she ruined her hair and I used some of those products on her recommendation and had a hair set back as well. It's a shame. I'd rather people just use what works and make fewer videos.

    I miss the old YT as well where you could come to get information and support from one person to another, especially within the natural hair community. That’s when people were just excited to share what worked and their experience without glitz and glam (2009 and earlier). Most YTbers didn’t even share their real name and/or personal info so it was strictly hair care. I do understand the change and growth, which can be good, but nothing beats a true OG who keeps it real and is pleasant to talk to/chill with/watch. Thanks for sharing your experience and expertise. You have been a God send for the natural hair community.

    It makes me sad to see you go, but I understand.
    1. Thank you for staying true to yourself and not "selling out" for more subscribers.
    2. No you haven't gotten the recognition you've deserved when it comes to subs. Imo you should be as big as naptural85 is.
    3. Please don't think that you haven't made an impact on the natural hair community. I owe so much to you and I wish I could give back to you what you've given me and thousands of other people. I talk about you all the time in real life and I've directed people to your
    channel as well.
    4. I wish it wasn't as time consuming as it is so you could continue.
    5. Lemme tell you what my mom told me when I was feeling underappreciated about my photography: If you offer the average person the choice of an apple or creme brulee, most would pick the apple because it's familiar and pretty. Creme brulee just looks like burned stuff in a boring pot. BUT people who know what creme brulee is know its value and truly appreciate the flavor and what goes into making it. You are creme brulee and these other hair channels are apples. You can't compare the two. People flock to those basic channels because it's "pretty" and superficial and familiar. But you offered so so so much more. Your content is invaluable. Please leave the old videos up for us to refer back to.
    6. I guess we say goodbye now cause I'm not into video games. 😢😭😭 Is it weird to say I love you? But I do in a subscriber vs youtuber kinda way lol. I'm gonna miss you so much. Why does this feel like graduating high school and saying goodbye to all my friends.... 😔 I wish you the best in all your future endeavors. And thank you for making this video instead of dropping off the face of the earth with no explanation like other youtubers do. Omg I'm so sad right now. 💙💜

    Every single point you made makes sense. I get it. You are speaking the truth like you always have and continue to do when it comes to natural hair care. I am so sad to see you leave, yet I know this is something you’ve obviously thought about and have every right to make. You have inspired me so much throughout the years and I couldn’t agree more with the point you made about not getting the recognition you deserve. I used to sit and watch your videos then watch some other random UA-camr who basically did nothing but do her hair then pose in front of the camera and it’s like really? Really? What did I learn from that? Afrikanhairgod I still practice everything you taught me and you will be missed. Thank you for the time, effort and education you provided all of us❤️✊🏾. Damn! My OG UA-cam hair people were definitely you, FusionofCultures, Naptural85, and AfricanExport (who doesn't post anymore for some reason). These guys (especially you AfrikanHairGod) really broke down the science of natural hair and encouraged me to know more about the science of my "own" hair. Which in turn allowed me to get my most optimal hair health regimens. Sad to see you leave but I respect your decision. Like people out here hoping to the "Hair Gods" for the best twist out in life, know that this guy is likely one of them. :D Why? because we out here getting our best facts from AfrikanHairGod. I wish the best for you ad continued success at your salon. Hopefully, there will be another future platform or a shift in the youtube community that will allow you to share your content again.

    This is the realest video I've seen in regards to being a UA-camr and the natural hair community. I've witnessed so much foolery and things are not changing. Like others have stated UA-cam has become a joke and is oversaturated with content. There are a few UA-camrs that I actually follow and appreciate..but now if you don't have a banging outro..intro...transitions..blah blah people don't stay. It should be about the content not the "show" sorta of speak. You will be greatly missed. This seriously makes me sad but I GET IT

    I’ve been kicking around these comment skreets for years! And I must say I’m sad to see you go BUT I am grateful for your contribution to not only natural hair care but my personal journey. When I found your channel in 2011 I was a new natural looking for help and boy did I find it here! I gave up in 2013 but I’ve been back and forth over the past years. No matter the state of my hair though, I stayed subscribed and tuned in to every video upload. I’ve really enjoyed all of your videos, those with Henny, those with the water jug!, and those with your sister. As well as your hobby videos (even though I can’t get into gaming). I’m really going to miss the realness of your channel and your minimalist approach to hair care. I must say that the other channels that I’m subscribed to are selling dreams on both hair and beauty. And you’re right, all of the you tubers that I found back in the day when I started my journey are gone, but I’m glad you stayed! I’ll stay subscribed as long as you have an account! Be blessed AHG! Now I got to come to ALANUH and visit the griyn thumb! Lol!

    AfrikanHairGod, you got me wondering if there is any way you would reconsider ending your hair channel. I recall back when I did my first chop I would flat iron my hair consistently and someone online candidly pointed out was I really being natural. It made me think, as after I did the second chop (and without the heat damage and product build up) my hair is completely different. So, even flat ironing changed the structure of my hair.
    Also, at the beauty store that starts with a big red S, I saw a UA-camr on a hair product and the products were all in the clearance isle. That showed me corporations heavily influence our buying habits. I bought the clearance product. It turned out to be below my average expectations, and I never bought it again. All in all, we need people like you, the OG's to school the new G's. It is people like you who helped so many of us learn and grow.

    You're so right. It just isn't the same. I've watched you for years even though my user name has changed. I miss the old natural hair community on y/t African Export like you mentioned, Sera 2544, Taren, FreeWorshipFreeeWorship...many I could name....but it's changed so much. Best of luck to you, thanks for all your work, young man.
