Hey Chris, cyclist from Germany here. I really enjoy your videos, you got this typical laid back attitude that we often are jealous of over here. Been in australia myself in 2015 and loved it, wish I could join you some day! Keep doing what you do!
Loved the video, don't know how I would hold up riding in the snow. Can't believe how your front wheel was packed with snow. But you know what? I still want to go touring as it looks beautiful, it looks like the challenge is worth living for!! In other words I think it's far better than sitting on the couch waiting for the undertaker to come around.
It looks way worse than it was. The only dangerous bit was scootering on the bike down the bitumen road, but I didn't come of. So all good. Better to be out there than sitting on the couch indeed. Cheers Chris. Haven't had my surface pro working for some time, it's getting repaired soon. Cheers Chris.
When the going gets tough the tough get going !! Well done for the beautiful Australian Southern Bush photography; there wouldn't be many city Aussies who have ever seen a Gang Gang Cockatoo in the wild. Thank you for sharing Chris.
Wow, beautiful video...you're a fighter with such energy, Chris!!! Thank you so much for making those wonderful and inspiring videos!!! Greets from Sweden, where we have summer, a little while longer!!! Keep it up my friend!!!
Man this is a very impresive video, I admire you that you were able to bike in such conditions, respect! Such a cool video to watch. My job involves me delivering newspapers during the night and last night it was raining and about 0 degrees outside and it was really tough, but watching videos like this makes me feel better
Never really associate this much snow for Australia, the real surprise, however, is that you took a brolly with you for the journey! Great video, cheers.
Respect bro!! Tough touring! You are a Hardcore tourer man!! Jesus!! We masochists do love a chalenge! Although...i try to avoid snowy places.....annoying to say the least...despite being beautyfull. Exelent footage!!!! Very well made. Nice music too!!!
Great video of your adventure Chris. I don't know how I missed this one earlier. Looked like a tough ride though I'm really pleased you kept seeing the beauty in everything around you despite the tough conditions. The hardest I've had it was when I had to push through a pile of palm fronds ;) I hope you are well mate - all the best!
Some things just don't go together in my mind, cycling in snow and camping in snow (without a lot more equipment). Then there's cycling downhill in snow when you can't see what's under the snow ! You're a braver man than me Chris !
Yes Ian I do agree on these points. I'm still aiming for a Fat bike which would be suited to these situations. And equipment I do need to upgrade for conditions like that foresure. Cheers Chris.
Thanks. Good to test yourself and have the experience I believe. Have been up in the mountains cross country skiing for the last few weeks. Cheers Chris.
Hi Chris. I really enjoyed your video. I have to ask, what is the advantage of the the belt drive on your bike if it is not usable in the snow? Either way, I appreciate the beautiful discomfort of pushing your bike up a hill in the snow and reaping the benefits on the other side. There is something about snow that makes a bicycle ride more special. I remember riding through New Haven, Connecticut in 2010, when the snows were so brutal. Somehow, I found solace in riding my bike in conditions that most people would not want to be in. Weird,, huh? Either way, I think you are cool, Brian
Thanks Brain. Yes the snow just changes the land scape to a different feel. The belt came of because in Australia it snows really wet sticky snow as you could see. In colder environment I'm fairly sure it would be fine. The belt only need water to clean and last twice as long as a chain and never loose tension. The Harley Davidsons have them. Cheers Chris.
Hi ,Chris , Who makes, made your handlebars & how much did ,do they cost ? I'm from the USA! ENJOY your videos. BE SAFE! HAVE FUN! SMILE! GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS!
Hi the make of the bike is a Koga signature if you Google that they have a web site where you custom make your bike it should have the make of the handle bars. I really like them well worth it. I don't know of hand can't see a brand on them. Cheers Chris.
David, I bought a trekking bar from Nashbar, internet...cost was $20. I plan to buy another one soon, made a mistake and let the old one go when I sold the previous bike.. I used an old school shifters and bmx brake levers. Worked well, shifters were the old friction type. Bicyclebob 4 @ Gmail.com.
hello there! I was wondering how do you keep your fresh foods from spoiling? if you have a video on that, please refer me to that. THANKS! Oh, by the way, I enjoy your videos. I appreciate your efforts in showing us your adventure.
Thank you. If it's hot weather fresh food packed in paper bags. Then I try and put the food deep in the panniers, so it doesn't heat up to much during the day. You only get about four days on soft vegetables in hot weather conditions. Cheers Chris.
Really good video this one, really enjoyed it, especially the time lapse putting and taking down your tent plus in camp activities - cooking. Plus you've started to fade the music when you talk to camera which is great too as you have quite a relaxed soft voice and previously it was so difficult to hear you. Your GoPro on extendable pole is really good as well. I guess you must be able to mount it on the rear rack? You take a lot of time to set up your shots either showing you approaching camera from a distance or going into the distance which is vey effective. Would you ever get a small drone to film from high up? You must have been cold on this one. Rather you than me, but keep up the good work. Very nice short film. FWIW I think a chain would have struggled just as much as your belt did in the snow, so no shame on it at all. IMHO it wins over a chain any day owing to such low maintenance which you have shown over many tours compares to chain drive. Many thanks for posting.
Thanks Alex. Yes first time I've faded the music out when I speak. Yes it does take a bit of time setting up and this time the gopro 3 well I was trying to defog it fell and scratched the glass lense on the road hmm. I have bought three drones so far and they just haven't worked out. First one 3 years ago crashed and burned. Second one (pocket drone I didn't unpack from the youtube reports), third one Bebop drone after being on the bike just didn't fly straight. With drones you are not allowed to make money unless you have a special license either. Yes I still do like the belt over 12,000 kms so far with this one and never had to do any maintenance.
Great video! Looks like quite the adventure.... Can you say something about the belt drive? How do you like compared to a chain...? Are they better? Worse? The same?

Chris it is good to see you in camping mode, showing how you camp an what you get up to, just riding and showing videos of that aspect alone gets a bit boring after a while.
It's just up from the town of Khancoban NSW Australia. On the Tooma rd towards Cabramurra. It's closed in winter due to snow. Steep rd with great cuttings.

Wow looked a little chilly Bro
Wasn't so bad. Just dangerous on the ride down without the belt on.
And yet another reason I will never have a belt drive. But, since I am a recumbent rider that dosen't seem to be an issue. Keep up the good video's.
Thanks. The belt has been good just doesn't like that much snow. Cheers Chris.

20 litres... holy shit, lol, your not a weight weenie, I can see the need for more arid riding, whats the total bike weight on a trip like that?

You are not afraid of wild animals, will not they attack? I also think of doing in India as I too like it but afraid of animals or any other situation. Tell me something that I could come out of this fear. Thanks.
In spite of Australia's reputation for dangerous animals, for much of the country it's snakes and spiders that can cause problems. That said, most snakes and spiders just want to be left alone. If you get into their space, they'll defend themselves. Brown snakes are a bit of exception, they're quite aggressive if encountered. Never seen belt driven…which do you prefer
I prefer the belt drive for the low maintenance of them. They don't get caked with sand and dirt. Witch oil on the chain, does.
A chain maybe next time.? Always carried an extra seat bolt, too......broke mine at -25 in AK......try cycling without being able to sit for long distances......no.....really try it sometime......you will never leave home without one......duct tape it to the underside of your saddle.cheers

How many miles did you have to push through snow?
So why keep pushing? You barely making any distance, better to wait it out a little.

Do you stay warm in the tent?
I was warm in the tent, except my feet got cold this time. Once it snows on a tent it becomes a bit like an igloo and is cosy inside.
