In a nutshell, Animate was designed to create vector based web graphics and animations capable of complex interactivity without the need to transfer large content files. SWF stands for Small Web File, and I would say is the best software for this use, formally Macromedia Flash, and my all-time favorite. After Effects was designed to handle the complete opposite, large high-resolution graphics and video files far larger than vector graphics being well into the MB and GB range, which isn't the concern it once was, point is one can't really compare AA to AE. IMO
Thanks a lot for the feedback and for the valuable input! We believe that this topic was requested in the comments because of the "animation" aspect that these software share, although they differ greatly. This is why we considered it to clear up the fog.
I've been working with Flash for over 20 years. I started with Flash MX. I love this program. I'm sorry that it is used to create simple animations, although it has much greater potential.

I can't understand why Adobe Animate users aren't using Tahoma2d instead of Animate. (Unless they have to stick with Adobe where they work) Although Tahoma2D is open source, it has many times more features and its workflow is similar to Animate. The software has vector and bitmap layers. A timeline just like Animate, tween features (even tween animation and framebyframe can be mixed), the camera layer and more...
Can you share an example of a good Tahoma2D animation? This is the first series of my project made with Adobe Flash CS6. Editing done with Adobe Premier. I did everything myself. ua-cam.com/video/KHLRwA6sGvU/v-deo.html
Yeah it's a child of Opentoonz, I very familiar in Opentoonz and Tohoma2d, but But there's limited tutorials for advance animation, whereas Adobe animate is unusual everyone use it thousand of tutorials available , so I have to use Adobe now.
Animate is adobe flash before 2015.. I use this as a student back in 2000's. It's focus is on handrawn frame by frame animation. After effects animation is focused on whatever you'll draw or create in Ai or. PS. You can also create effects for video in AE which is impossible for Animate.

I am well versed in both AE and Ani CC. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. For character animation Animate CC is better, but it lacks a few things. Sound editing is poor. Built in transitions are not so great. Direct integration with mastering software like Premiere pro has been dropped. Illustrator, AE workflow is cumbersome.

If you're looking for simplicity we highly recommend Animate, but if you're aiming to achieve more complex stuff (adding compositing to the mix) then Ae would be your guy
Did you mean adobe after effects vs Adobe premiere pro cuz adobe animate is a drawing app and after effects is a editing app it's not a competition if its not the same case or subject but this video is still really helpful 😁
It was exactly the reason why we decided to make this comparison. It has been requested many times, so we thought that it would be useful for beginners. As a cartoonist, musician and artist, I am interested in this content. I am not completely familiar with the terminology. "Interface" in the music world refers to a physical device for running instruments into a computer by "interfacing" between a computer and an Interface device, with a USB cord. In this case, is the editing software of Animate, called the Interface? Or is there an actual physical "interface device" needed to use these programs? Is there an "interface device" used to put drawings onto the computer that "interfaces" a camera or iPad or scanner to the computer? If there is an interface device, then that is important to know for purchasing one of these programs. I will endeavor to hunt around to see if these programs need some interfacing device to import data into the computer, that is a physical device and not just software.
Interface it’s what you face to and figurate with as a user. It’s refers to engineering it’s interaction between real-world - machine - operator nor usb cabel.
you will need a drawing tablet or digital display to use programs like animate, photoshop and illustrator, you could on after effects, but if your desire is video editing, then I'm sure a mouse is fine

Animate and after effects aren’t very similar, and have different use cases. It’s like comparing apples to clocks. Why would you compare the two? They don’t share enough similarities to make it a normal comparison. A better comparison would probably be animate and toon boom or after effects and premier pro.

You may laugh but I think that Adobe will merge those two programs one day. Nowadays you can transfer Animate project into AE. Imagine having those two programs merged. O__O It would be the best program ever made.
They are just too different. Animate is for actual animation of characters, you can even draw there (it has better tools for drawing). After effects is for compositing. Sure, you can animate there, but you depend on illustrator for almost always flat styles resulting in the cliche shitty explainer videos. Animate hurts less the eyes of actual Character Animators. But ToonBoom Harmony has always been the best and cooler version of Animate. It has now grown stronger and the industry standard for Character animators. With the ToonBoom Softwares you can even be a producer (director or coordinator of a film project) and a storyboard artist, that has to do more with actually creating or producing, and not only post-producing stuff really made by others. I hope blender hurries to become the industry standard to stop fucking around with so many software licenses, because in Blender you can do EVERYTHING from Production and Post.
How? It's very straightforward. One is extremely simple and geared more towards 2D animation the other has much broader capabilities like 3D work and live action video editing but is also far more complicated.
