I always thought that these radios were a bit inferior to HF amateur radios that were opened up. I always ran low power while in the CB band, and enjoyed conversations there, especially in the sideband frequency area. That was many years ago, and perhaps these 10/11 meter rigs have been improved. Thanks for the tutorial; very well done.

I remember many an hour enjoying my RCI-2950!
Made a nice little base station out of it with an Antron 99 with a GPK-1

Sir, can't you make these 300 watts .. I have a dxcf that does 200 watts ... wouldn't you think 300 watts be the way to go .. let me know ok ..
I love the radio ... like how you get the radio waves correct most people don't know how that is done.
How much is a HP version tricked out ... I want the 300 watts ok .. thank you sir! Terry

It's outputting just over 200w with a normal speaking voice. They can be tuned up to 300w, usually demonstrated by yelling AUDIOOOOOOH or whistling into the mic, but you generally end up with spurious emissions and bleeding over into adjacent channels. Looks good on a meter, but that's it. The additional power isn't actually going where you want it.
Even if the radio were tuned do 300w cleanly, that is only a 1.7db power increase or less than 0.3 S units at the receiving end. An antenna upgrade can easily make a bigger difference than that.
