- In this video I give tips how to diagnose and repair Ranger radios like the RCI-2950DX Series, 2970DX, 2970n2,3,4 Series, 2990DX, 2995DX, 2995DX-CF and 2995DX-HP radios with the board prefix starting with EPT 6950.
I never see much info about this repair on the internet so I thought I'd pass it along so you know what to look for. Any time you've had to replace a blown final or the Q66 regulator, and you still find you have no TX, this video is for you.
Hi mate you are doing a great job keeping those rigs working
Q67 is small? lol you should try to get the D54 off of a icom 718 to convert it. Now thats small lol... Good video there. I subbed
Try the diode matrix on the icom 7300 lol
I'm looking for a deal on a 2995 DX HP. I'm interested in Ranger RCI mainly. Do you repair Yaesu? I have 5 in need of a little TLC repair work.
Thanks for the information. I have an Old School Galay Saturn, that I am sure needs recapping. Do you do this also? Have a great weekend. 21 South Carolina.
I recap a lot of radios. It takes a lot of time. I have a little walk in business. I usually buy multiple lots of as is broken radios and refurbish them and throw them to eBay. 416 Whiskey Man here in Kentucky. ;)
@@DX-Rev I understand, Hope to catch you in DX Land. anyway. 21 South Carolina.
I have just about the same radio with no modulation on a.m. will transmit on upper and lower sideband radio itself is doing one quarter wt swinging 1
I do have transmit but very high will not modulate any ideas
Question: what power supply is that next to the MFJ meter, I need to be sure so I can match it before I get one. I guess its been about a year and my 2995 DXCF is still running strong coast to coast, Canada, Australia. I also have a Kenwood TS940S basically in mint condition. I just got one of those MFJ meters, and a 3 position 4 radio antenna switch, will be ordering a second one. In addition to the question what do you think of the front end noise on the 2995 and what would be the best filtering solution? I know the audio in the 2995 is strong, but AM static sounds like FM static in these rigs. Also have you come across a PL tone encoder/decoder and where on the board does it plug in or solder to?
I wonder why people takes the handlebars off for
I got them on there now. I had all the screws out when working on it and just had the lid sitting on it. I use the handles often when working on this style of radio so I can set them up on the handles and the knobs don’t hit the table. Helps a lot when changing lights and things on the back of the display.
I have the same issue but it does modulate on am just doesnt transmit
What is the name of your shop and what state are you in ? Ron in central Indiana.
I’m in Kentucky. Don’t have a shop name yet. Still working on it. This is just my side thing for years locally, I do a lot of ham and commercial stuff. I used to work for R&L electronics in Hamilton Ohio. Usually on CB equipment I buy big lots of as is stuff and fix it for my eBay store.
Mine has received Rodger b works no RF power know what's coming out of the radio
I'm from the UK and it's Legends like you who keep Radio in full swing. Thank you so much for this video.
I am looking to purchase the RCI 2995dx and the RCI 69 base plus. But before I do what should I get done to the two Radios to avoid any out of the blue issues❓ Please advise as I'm looking to keep these two Radios for a long time.
Thank you,
UK handle ESR100
I repair a lot of ranger and galaxy radios. The best bet is when buying one that’s already high power, do not peak and ruin it. Keep the output power around the advertised original specs and they’ll last a long time. I do recommend a frequency alignment on any new analog radio because out of the box they’re always a little off on sideband. If you actually use 10m, I’d recommend the 2995 over the 69 base plus since the 69 doesn’t have a 10KC switch and you’ll need that around the 10m calling frequency. Whereas the 2995 is just continuous tuning. The only real mod I did to my 2995 was unlocking the clarifier on transmit. But you can fine tune the steps on the display without doing that. The new RCI-29 just came out and it has the same board as the 69 Base Plus, but for 10m SSB work it is useless. The clarifier sucks and it tops out at 28.315. Hope this helps. Cheers
@@DX-Rev thank you for the amazing information but I'm really wanting the radios for CB use. The issue I have I can't find any fricking one to get these radios to the UK. I'm losing hope, don't think I'm asking much but dam how do I get these radios with your upgrades. Can anyone please HELP 🆘 from the UK📡‼️
New sub too

I got one now it's not getting anything to the test point for the driver and final 2022 model new amp new AM reg but can't set bias or final voltage reads 0.00
Check the solder side traces and see if any are burnt. If they all check good, start to trace them back to q66 and q67 and if everything is ok to there, it may be the ones I’m talking about. The finals in the radio can blow and burn a trace. But if you fix the trace or q66/67 without changing the finals it’ll blow that again or make a dead short to the radio and main 13.8v.
@@DX-Rev traces were good the old amp had 3 bad MOSFETs even if the final and driver is bad will it show on the bias test points
@DX-Rev would these still transmit nearby or to a test radio?
Mine is doing the same thing I posted a short on toutube Im Desperate to get ahold of you
H I remember having Cobra 148 GTL DX 50 years ago
Can you get me a am regulator and a q 67 parts
For a RCI 2990 dx
It has a RCI 2995 board in it
This is exactly why I don’t buy used radios… You never know who had their hands in it.
I was helping out GI Joe’s CB shop. They’re going out of business since the owner passed away. I’ve been buying their old abandoned repairs and returned stock that wasn’t warranty and going through them one by one. So far I’ve got 4 or 5 nice radios back up and operating. It’s all a work in progress. Half the older radios with EPT3600 boards have been butchered with audio and power mods, so the starting point to that is de-modding and un-hacking before I can even try to get them back to snuff. Fun times. lol
@@DX-Rev Yeah, it can get tedious for sure brother. But, a little work here and there and next thing you know the job is done, well if the radio isn’t too far gone. 73👋🏻
