Many years ago on the channel I made a video for Spooky Season talking about Scary Fighting Game Characters, and I figure its due for a bit of an update and lets change around some of the characters we talk about. So in Honour of Halloween lets talk about some Scary Characters in Fighters! Our Genre is cursed that scary usually means messed up gameplay mechanics, but there's a lot of flair and soul in some of these characters so lets talk about what makes them creepy!
Hisako is honestly one of the most clever examples of a scary horror themed character to come out of fighting games for one very distinct reason: she's a grappler, the archetype based around making opponents fear the grab and the options that come with that. While she's certainly not the most orthodox take on the archetype (her dash alone makes her very distinct from other grapplers), basically every unique system she has incentivizes that fear response along side her grabs (Wrath making hits more deadly, her delayed linkers punishing players for panicing once she gets a hit, her air slash special splatting airborne opponents back into her grasp, parries to punish panic options, etc.), and its great
Kusaregedo is terrifying especially when you consider that he ate the entire population of Sado Island (based on his stage) and even his own daughter. I was kinda sad that he didn't make a return in SamSho 2019
Same here, and instead, we got the Dumbass Warden and stupid bunnygirl that nobody asked for but SNK themselves (which is the real reason why I stopped playing it all together because it was a lazy corporate cash-grab). Hopefully, in a future Samsho game, the hungry ghost (along with some many others) will come back with no cringey online multi-player or mobile game guest characters (i don't want to see anyone from For Honor, Apex Legends, Overwatch, Call of Duty, Fortnite, Honor of Kings, and Raid Shadow Legends getting crapped onto another game again).
11:40 Another fun fact about Q-Bee is that not only is her face fake, her mouth is as well. Her real mouth is when her face fully rips open. Although there is no artwork of this scenery anywhere, it is described that her face splits open vertically to reveal her real mouth.
About Q-Bee, her entire body is fake. It is like a mecha suit, the real Q-Bee is like a small fairy bee that controls that fake body to fight. You can see that in Q-Bee's sprite when she is eletrocuted
there actually are official sketches of QB's real mouth you can find in the Capcom Fighting Collection museum! Only sketches tho. It's apart of her design document
For those wondering the evo winning Sasquatch gameplay at the beginning is from the newest Terrordrome game that just released. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!
Honestly this is a good question to be asking. My choice and go to would be Kusaregedo. I remember the first time seeing him and going WHAT THE HELL IS THAT. Not to mention seeing his super motion for the first time and saying. NOPE, there is no way that’s a real motion, Nope I’m good. It’s either him or whatever fighting game Boss or Terrifying Normal that gives you PTSD (for me it’s God Rugal)!
Hisako is a great representation of an Onryo (Japanese vengeful spirit) with the naginata which traditionally has been considered a female weapon. A breakout star of the KI reboot
You could have picked anyone from Darkstalkers for this video, so no character from that game is a wrong choice. But I would have picked Demetri. The grab where he turns any character into a female in a "sexy" dress then steals their life force Is on the top of the list for me. Coming in close second for me Is Jedah using your bloody body to stamp the contract to your soul was totally brutal to me.
The only thing that the two people scariest of Street Fighter is Juri and A.K.I. That's the scariest thing that the two female fighters that ever becoming of.
Kusaregedo wins by a mile, and it's not helped by the fact his fatality (or however the lethal finishers were called in SamSho) is eating you alive offscreen. Relius gets a mention just for being "bad ending man". You saw that guy in your Blazblue story mode, you were heading straight to some horrific shit, but nothing really communicates this in gameplay Edit: And now that I watched the video, you made the same exact points 😅
Absolutely love the video. Happy Halloween my friends and rooflemonger!!!! When i stray to far from the path of the Sasquatch, you always appear to remind me of the one true form of monster
A running Sagat. Made me so scared that I freezed up and took a full blown c.fierce into super after he ran fullscreen. My opponent was a CvS2 vet and I had the life lead. I completely shut down and was paralyzed. I will never forget.
Surprised Grundy didn't get a special mention, even if he is pretty goofy overall. He is a comic book character first and foremost, but his Injustice iteration is stuck in my head.
Surprised that Baby Bonnie Hood wasn't the choice of scariest Darkstalkers' character. She fullfills the "deception" part that Q-Bee does too. But in a game where most of the characters are monsters or monstrous in some way, it's a human girl who is the worst one. Unlike Q-Bee, who is little more than a supernatural predator who kills to feed, Bonnie kills for the sake of pleasure & simple sport, and takes a special kind of sadistic joy in pretending to be a defenseless girl before she brutally slaughters her victims. The profit she earns as a Darkhunter is just a side bonus. She is basically a really twisted version of a monster who lures in human prey by mimicking another human in distress. Except that she IS a human. A human acting like a monster, rather than a monster attempting to act as a human.
Hisako also has a parry that makes you scared to press buttons.. also you can hold the Auto Doubles .. you hold it and let it go at different times so your opponent know what button to press to break the combo but you can reverse their break.. so again your opponent is afraid to press buttons..her gameplay is focused completely on making her opponent afraid to press buttons.. I love it❤
Fun stuff though i did have to watch with my hands covering my eyes after those terrifying divekicks. "Rooflemonger just shows off stuff from games he likes" is my favorite genre of video here.
In a similar vein to Havik, I always thought Jedah had a great design for a "monster" character, where almost his entire moveset involves spraying blood and ripping off his own body parts. That said, the character that actually *scares* me the most is Abigail. What a terror to look at, sheesh.
I love Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat BUT Killer Instinct is my favorite Fighting Game of all time and Hisako is my favorite Character of all time.. I love horror films and it’s so great how her gameplay is completely around fear❤
Hisako for me for the horror being baked into the playstyle. But these are all awesome. Yes, Relius for being an actual psychopath. I would put Zappa on this because of the animations. Dude is still . . . sort of there and that is horrifying.
Is there trophy for the most evil characters in Fighting Game Relius take the trophy home ~ Short version the evil deed he committing are on screen multiple time thought out Blazblue franchise whether it come from story mode or gameplay ~ The "longer" version aside putting his wife and daughter soul to a puppet, he experimenting his daughter soul into puppet but didn't finish the experiment just so his son finishing the experiment as surprise pop quiz for Carl
I feel like Blackheart from the Marvel VS Capcom series would have been another good one. A demon that commands an army of minions and ghouls to really force you to have a bad day.
Shadow from Darkstalkers is also pretty creepy looking. Double from Skullgirls is another one & Capcom's Jojo Hol Horse Hanged Man super always creeps me out as well.
Oh come on, Zappa only has ONE CAMEO MENTION? His entire body is just screaming possession like twisted muscle, thousands eyes or a freaking spitting face. His ENTIRE animation scream Halloween not to mention his summon.
I actually thought about B.B.Hood. Despite her cute, innocent looking demeanor, she's the one hunting the spooky, scary monsters, uzis, rockets, mines, knife, instilling fear into them. Though she don't scare us one bit because of the looney aspects of her. A.B.A actually gave me unsettling vibes just by seeing her moveset back in GGX2, as she can make a blood pact with her key that gives it a more demonic appearance, while she herself becomes more erratic.
I know this is a joke about his poor balance, but he's also more grotesque than say, a lot of edgy/gross MK characters. If you put a trenchcoat on him he looks like the second phase of a three-phase resident evil end boss.
Hisako is probably my favorite KI character because of her design. The Onryo grudge woman thing is a very cool aesthetic and her kit compliments it super well. She feels like a vengeful spirit even in gameplay Bro hold up I have the switch version of that samsho game. Is that NAMBLA joke still in there good lord
Scariest has got to be Zangief, the moment the cinematic for that LVL 3 pops. I've heard grown men scream in fear. Seriously though, I used to gravitate towards spooky characters in anime fighters when I was a kid for some reason, even though they invariably ended up being way too complex for me. Zappa's my favorite, but I've always thought Arakune was the spookiest.
idk man..batgirl from injustice still scares the ish outta me! METERLESS resets on top of mix on EVERY TOUCH…..nah…i use to run for my life every time 😂…😉
About Havik, how does one hurt a guy that rips off his own head for a basic attack? Is there a canon reason to why it only damages him if OTHER people hurts him?
There's a few from MUGEN I could mention, but thehy'd probs break YT guidelines so I'll go w/ a more obvious one: Mathrus. Real nightmare fuel on both in-game and IRL levels.
The Snow Man from Clayfighter was always creepy to me, and Eternal Champions was creepy in general. No specific character but the vibe of the game had an eerieness to it. Kinda wish both titles made a comeback in some way, especially Eternal Champions with Mk11 presentation.
The scariest fighting game character is Wacker from Tough Guy, why? Well let's just say his armband as well as his fireball has the shape of a double jointed windmill.
.... no D'Vora? espcialy the MK11 one? ... ok Hisako is scary ... i give you that ... but me facing D'Vora i'd fred flinstone nope out there at light speed
Lilith. The answer is Lilith. Yes, the other characters might kill you, and maybe even kill you painfully, but Lilith would mutilate you slowly and gleefully. She might use your intestine as a feather boa just for the LOLs. She might rip your limbs off to use as maracas. She might take your eyes just because they look pretty. And as you lay there twitching in agony, she would look down on you in a mixture of disappointment, worry, and confusion. And she would ask, "Why aren't you playing with me any more?" You see, Lilith is a masochistic lunatic, and she doesn't comprehend how anyone else would not enjoy being tortured and maimed. Lilith has win quotes like: Beautiful eyes. Please give them to me." And: "I like pain because it gradually turns into pleasure." Just listen to the way she screams when she takes damage. Yes, it is a scream of pain, but listen closer. It is also a scream of surprised delight. Now realize that she can duplicate herself. She can morph her wings into axe blades, impaling spikes, and drills. Understand that she can do whatever she feels like, and remember that her super jump is a literal jump scare. You, as a mere human, cannot escape. If you ever catch her attention, you had better throw something, anything, in a desperate hope that she gets distracted by it and forgets about you long to enough to escape. Because Lilith is truly, utterly terrifying.
While not physically that scary bedman? Is perhaps the most existentially terrifying fighting game character Is the bed moving on its own or is it possessed by Romeo? The game has evidence that swings both ways but still don’t provide a solid answer, combine that with a theme that’s about Romeo confronting his death in Xrd and how even the theme is open ended and could either end in a way where he’s reborn as the bed or his spirit just fades away and you got a fighter who gets more terrifying the more you think about it

Did he really say NAMBLA lol
And nothing of value was lost. Shodown 2019 already has a huge waste of a character slot in the form of Earthquake.
probably because he was designed by yasuhiro nightow
@@YeldellGWnah earthquake rules

there actually are official sketches of QB's real mouth you can find in the Capcom Fighting Collection museum! Only sketches tho. It's apart of her design document
Havik makes sense based on the move set but Dvorah’s body horror themes in her fatalities and brutalities make her a good MK representative as well
Her MK11 design was wonderfully creepy, and her ‘New Species’ fatal where the bug baby bursts out is one of the gnarliest finishers of the series.
she does but then there's 2 bug ladies and I think Q bee is the better bug lady!
@@rooflemonger Yeah but Q Bee is anything but scary.
For those wondering the evo winning Sasquatch gameplay at the beginning is from the newest Terrordrome game that just released. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!
Rooflemonger’s obsession with Darkstalkers’ Q-Bee knows no limits
its a character I like very much!!!!
13:40
I like how Bedman? Is the opposite of this, creepy on its first layer but kinda wholesome when you get to know what it is really about
Personally I have trouble finding him scary since Xrd's story mary sue's him HARD

Eyes up here twice Darkstalkers has peak designs 😮💨
Nobody's scarier than whoever the opponents playing as when they've got you downloaded. Especially if they're a grappler.
Rachel Alucard: _George~_ 🐸
Blazblue veterans: *No NONONONONO*
Fighting magneto in mvc2 with over 300ms is the real terror

I had a different answer but after the last video, Vikala scares me the most.
My money for Kusaragedo because one of his special Supers eat you whole.
so does sonson from marvel vs capcom
Hisako was always scary to me
Even though I’m not a fan of MK, I think they have some of the scariest fighters of any other rosters.
The only thing that the two people scariest of Street Fighter is Juri and A.K.I. That's the scariest thing that the two female fighters that ever becoming of.

HISAKO, YES!! Also, what a wonderful username you have in KI! Such an auspicious number.
It cool to see a clip of my playthroughs featured in rooflemonger video 5:11
Great video, by the way 👍
Of course Roof brings up FMA when talking about the Clover family.
Akuma on Tekken 7. Still. Gives me nightmares. 😅

I always thought necro from sf3 would be pretty scary to encounter
kusaregedo is just on another level of creepiness
That Darkstalkers stage where you fight on the side of the building, facing the street, I find horrifying for some reason.
It's just feels uncomfortable, doesn't it?
That noise Kusaregedo does when he impales you on his fatality... I was scared shitless as a kid
Great Halloween special!
Absolutely love the video. Happy Halloween my friends and rooflemonger!!!! When i stray to far from the path of the Sasquatch, you always appear to remind me of the one true form of monster

Sick video roofle. Looking forward to next years list
Zappa from GG is kind of scary because he so clearly is having a BAD time.
I remember a friend of mine was bothered by his select portrait with ghost lady grabbing for his junk. He looks miserable
The video should be in reverse order. D'vorah should have tied with Qbee.
You forgot to include the infamous Wazzler
Surprised Grundy didn't get a special mention, even if he is pretty goofy overall. He is a comic book character first and foremost, but his Injustice iteration is stuck in my head.

Zappa from Guilty Gear has got to be the most unnerving character with his bizarre design and actual ghosts in his moveset
Man, his taunts was either him stretching that open like THOUSAND EYES or 360 degree head turning.
Shadow from Darkstalkers is also pretty creepy looking. Double from Skullgirls is another one & Capcom's Jojo Hol Horse Hanged Man super always creeps me out as well.
I honestly thought you were going to pick BB Hood for the Dark Stalkers segment. Her ending implies that she murders a family in their own home. 😱
