- With our recent purchase of more cows it’s time to start thinking about how we are going to feed them. We start to move hay from the sellers ranch to ours. We also come home from spending New Years with our family to a little surprise.
Whoa, calving in Jan…. Right tough. Goin to be a long calving session guys! Glad to see you have some snow. FINALLY, up here in SW Montana, 3/8” of an inch…wee short of usual.
It’s definitely going to be a long one. Not really looking forward to it haha. We have had a pretty mild winter as well so far especially compared to last year. Where in south west Montana? I use to date a girl in Hamilton
Nice way to start the new year with a healthy calf ready or not, like how you roll with the surprise. From the sound of that snow squeaking when you walk on it pretty cold I bet on that morning. It's finally snowing out here for the first movable snow in seven hundred and some days the weather guy was saying and this won't stick around long as it's supposed to get warm in a day or two. Nice update Happy New Year to everyone take care
She was a surprise for sure but she is doing good and has started sprinting around the pasture now haha. It’s been fairly cold here but not a lot of snow yet. Been around the single digits for lows and mid 20’s for highs. Looks like we have some snow coming in this week and then colder temps afterwards, I saw a -14 day on my weather app so I guess we will see what happens. Hope you are doing well!
Yep, enjoyed pretty good.
A winter wonderland, and looking very well prepared.
Thanks for posting.
Good to hear from you! It’s funny thinking about the contrast of our individual locations. Australia compared to here haha. I try to be as prepared as I can. Something always seems to pop up that I didn’t think about though.
It's nice to see people helping each other out.
It’s nice to be helped out sometimes
Thanks for the video, I know what that was like, we used to have cows caving in Dec. , they usually dropped them during big snow storms
They seem to like to wait until the weather turns bad dont they haha. I usually start around the middle of February so this is going to make for a long calving season.
I think the weather fronts seem to initiate mamas to decide it’s time.
I’ve heard that too. That the barometric pressure change has an affect on them. Don’t know if that’s true but it sure seems to be haha
Happy New Year 🥳 Bryan and family all the best in 2024
Happy New Year to you and your family also!
I would think that would be hard on calves. Hope they all turn out well, have a great new year.
It can be hard on them. Luckily she is doing good she is up and sprinting around the pasture now haha. It’s amazing how hardy they are if the can just get up and get that Colostrum in them. One of these days I’ll do a video on why we calve when we do. Happy New Year!
Glad its all going well. Have a great year.@@LuthiRanchWY
Good update Bryan! The new surprise didn't throw you off, always a way to make things positive. Glad your cow purchase came with feed!! I like your new welder!! Saw your ranch entry when you brought the feed home, sure looked good and strong!! All the best for the New Year!
Thanks! The calf was a bit of a surprise but she is up and doing good. She’s starting to run around the pasture already. I’ve loved my welder so far it’s been on my wish list for awhile. I’ve still got to get the gates made for the entry but it’s not at the top of my to-do list at the moment. Hope you are doing well and had a good time over the Holidays!
Also I never received that email you mentioned in your last comment.
Sorry Bud! I thought it was sent, it is now. Thought you would get a laugh out of it. A friend just txt me. He is in central Montana, he said they are expecting sub sub zero temps later this week..Keep warm!

Glad u doing all right n u finally sent the cold to North texas 75 Thursday n sunny this afternoon 27 real free 16 but no snow the new welder looks good please chain it down so it does not slide off that slick bed hope yall have a milder winter n the elk find the neighbors
Haha I’d hate to loose my welder off the side of the truck! It’s starting to look alot more like winter around here now after this week. We’ve had a pretty good steam of storms come through. Hope you are staying warm enough down there!
1-13 low was 10
1-14 low was 8
1-15 They claim tomorrow low about 6
1-16 low about 15
You know how that feels north winds real feel -10
But it was 75 on last Thursday be high of 50 this Thursday leave protein tubs n round bales out go c about ice on tanks n feed 38% cottonseed cubes n think about all this global warming ha ha be safe my friend n keep your snow up there please
Enjoyed the video, Bryan. The sound of crunching snow is like fingers on a chalk board to me but west Texas keeps that annoyance away from me. I’ve still got Bermuda grass that is green in our yard even with lots of nights below freezing. That cold front you’ve mentioned in other comments is supposed to drop us in the teens, so it will get cold but our average high is 50s here in Lubbock.
I got the package from you and was proud of it!
Glad to hear you got the hat! We were worried because my wife got a message saying it wasn’t able to be delivered. It’s been pretty mild here this winter compared to other years but we still have had only a few days above freezing. Have you guys gotten any moisture lately? Good hearing from you!
We have had thankfully had some rains. We can always take more. We don’t get much snow but may this winter will bring some.
Have a good day.
Good luck calving Bryan
Thanks! I always seem like I need all the luck I can get.
All your camera shots and editing was impressive
Thank you! I try to do a good job with them.
That is a nice new welder. Has to make things a bit easier. Bundle up, it’s going to get a bit chilly for the next couple days. Those calve sheds look pretty good.
I’ve been watching the weather pretty close. We dodged one the other day. Weather called for 15 to 20 below and the coldest I saw was 2 above. I think tomorrow night though, Monday night, it’s still calling for -25 so I guess we will see. Seems like a lot of the guys east of us got all the cold.
I saw this elk jump over this fence yesterday and thought of you lol!
Haha the elk still haven’t shown up here. We haven’t gotten much snow yet this winter though so things might change with these next few storms.
I sure don't envy you with the open station tractor this time of year. Do you have a calf warming box with all of your cold weather calving? Hope all the family is doing well. Really enjoy your channel, love the new welder
Haha I’ve said in a couple videos how much I’d love to have a tractor with a cab on it. I do have a calf warming box it’s helped a lot. Especially not having to put newborn calves in our bath tub haha. Thank for the compliment on the channel. I try and make high quality videos and content. I’ve loved the Miller Welder so far, it had been on my wish list for awhile.
Great video Bryan
Thanks for the compliment! Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice miller welder. We pushed our cows back to march 20th. I’m sick of blizzard calving. Good luck!!
That welder had been on my wish list for years. It was nice to finally get one. Calving this time of year isn’t my favorite either. Especially not January. I usually start the first part of February.
@@LuthiRanchWY glad you got the welder. Makes life easier I’m sure.
Where are you out of?
@@LuthiRanchWY I’m in west central North Dakota
You guys have pretty brutal winters up there too I’ve heard.
When you were picking up the hay I saw some of those buildings in the background looked to be very old.
Yes they are pretty old. I’m not sure the history on them since they actually are on Randall’s neighbors property but I would assume they were built in the early 1900’s I’d guess.
I’m jealous of your welder!
It had been on my wish list for years! It’s nice to finally have one. Hope you are doing well! Been trying to keep up with all your videos.
Good luck ❤
Thanks! I feel like I’ll need it
👍💪

Morning
Morning!
I just saw they are predicting extreme cold coming down from Canada on the 12, 13, 14th
I see that too on my weather app. Snow and a -14 day brr.
