When Days Don’t Go As Planned on The Ranch

- Trying to plan your life around cows is a hard thing to do. There are so many variables and factors that come into play. From the fact you are dealing with live animals that have minds if their own to trying to predict the weather. In this video I show how my plans to deliver beef to our customers have to adapt and change to a situation that comes up on the ranch.
What a great life for a pair of dogs! Tons of room to run around, and so much to see and smell. Contrast that with being cooped up in a 600 sq ft apartment all day for years, only getting out a few times a day for a short walk.
I’ve always said our dogs have the best life. They have a lot of freedom to run around and do what they want. They are good at staying on our place. The biggest worry we have is them getting hit by a car since our ranch sits on both sides of a county road they cross the road a lot.
Good morning.
God bless you and yours
A lot of hard work.
Thanks be safe.
Not to many people would
Or could do it
Thanks! It is alot of work some days. I’m glad everything turned out ok this time
Cows/calves sometimes do the dumbest things. But they can smell a gate open 5 miles away 😂
Just shows how tuff these animals are.
Haha they make me scratch my head a lot. They are tough animals though for sure.
That was a crazy day. The life of a farmer is never easy and you do a great job.
Thanks. It was a crazy few days there. Glad it’s behind us now
Good luck delivering the beef Bryan
Glad u found your calf Bryan hope he is ok
I was happy to find him too. He’s doing good now.
Talk about a long day! Those calfs are really keeping you on your toes. Can't believe how far he wandered down the slough. Funny to see all the grass turning green. About all our snow had melted here, then we got 10 fresh inches in 24 hours. Glad it was a successful delivery.
It was a long day for sure! I was surprised where I found the calf also. It’s been putting down a lot of snow here this week. Have you guys been getting a lot too?
@@LuthiRanchWY We have been getting a lot here by Idaho Falls standards! Last Saturday it didn't stop snowing for 24 hours and most places around town accumulated over a foot of snow. That's just normal for your region though though!
Yes indeed a busy 24 plus hours! You definitely handled it all! Calving is never easy, glad your temperatures were reasonable. We agonize about one and all of the calves and hope they get into line easily but then the mothers have a say too. Just another day on Luthi Ranch!! Get some sleep Bryan, you've still have calving to do....LOL
Haha it’s starting to feel like a long calving season already! We are over half way now though. February was very busy but we have been in a lull the last few days. Good to hear from you! Hope everything is going well!
"Michael Phelps!!!" HAHAHA!
Haha
Good one. In the middle of the night too.
But. Seriously. What a miracle !
What a save!
That calf is one tough cow for your herd.
Your one tough rancher yourself.
Man, whata video all kinds of things running through my head as I'm watching it from chuckling to man have I been there. I'll tell ya that sums up ranching or dairy farming or just having a bunch of animals to a tee. If it can happen it sure will, at times it makes ya say how in the heck did they get themselves in that predicament. But by golly you handled that calf in the creek just right, that's the part where I was chuckling. You mull over the different options and the best one is just get in there and get it out. Boy you don't need to many days like that. Thanks for your time take care and stay safe
Seems like no year is ever the same. Seems like there is always an event or something comes up that you hadn’t planned for or thought about before haha. I always feel like I’m gaining knowledge and experience whether I want to or not, sometimes gaining it the hard way haha. Hopefully the video didn’t seem too long, I just didn’t want to break it into 2 two separate ones. I also wanted to try and show how much can happen in a short amount of time. I always look for your comments and feedback!
I'm binge watching your videos since it came through my news feed. I don't often do that but really love your channel and your sure raising some determined little calves that survive due to you.!
Thanks for the comment! I’m glad you’ve found our channel and have been enjoying our content. Do you remember which video it was that popped up in your feed?
It's like the first day of High School. Freshman wandering around lost. Seniors kicking them around. You being the Principal.
Haha it does feel like I’m always having to get in the middle of things
Hopefully all goes well and u get some well deserved rest .
I’m pretty sure I crashed after all of that and got some decent sleep.
What a +24 hours of work man, great Job 👍🏻 hope everything goes well 🙏🏻
Thanks! It was a very hectic and busy couple of days. Glad we got through them in decent shape though!
I felt for you on this one. Lot of work and very little sleep. Take care.
Thanks! Glad those couple days are behind us.
It just never ends, except you doing it in the snow and water. Have a great day.
It’s always something. I need to visit your channel again and see what you have been up to. The last video I watched you were already in the hay fields! I heard there’s been some fires in Texas?
My latest was some Cow Corn. Bull breeding cow video. Not my best but it bring in Subs and Views like candy. I'm going to change to private in a few as its not high in my viewers interest.@@LuthiRanchWY
The fires are across the state from us. opposite corners of Texas. we were contacted for hay and are sending 100 round we couldn't donate, but cut the cost to less than half the price. It's just that we are in a bad way ourselves in a serous drought and no water for our pastures or hay fields. @@LuthiRanchWY
💪🏼
Thanks!
Great video Bryan
Thank you!
Hell of a video with ups and downs! That’s calving alright 👍 😊
It’s been a calving season to remember that’s for sure!
Really enjoyed the video. Nothing but respect for y'all doing that kind of work.
I was watching on my phone outside so when you went "Look at this" I was like... I'm looking but I just see a dark screen... XD
Glad to hear you enjoyed the video! I wish I could have gotten a better quality video of the calf rescue but I was just in a hurry to get him out.
@@LuthiRanchWY Understandably so! Poor cold baby!
18:45 LMFAO That is funny....
The joys of ranching , memories
Haha seems like you can laugh about a lot of it once you get through it
I was thinking about that when I first saw your open slue, I'm like hopefully no calf goes in than I said to my self oh it shouldn't ( shouldn't) go to drink cuz it should just drink from the mom. And when I saw mom looking , I'm like she is missing her baby / or going nuts . But it didn't register until I saw it in the slue. Glad u got him & u got him blocked in lol and with his mom . Yeah weld up a shelter holding area / working area for a mom and calf , be a good content maker .
In the spring they will cross back and forth to get to the other side of the pasture but I’ve never had problems with them bothering it much in the winter. I just assumed he followed his mom over there when she went to drink and got in/fell in and couldn’t get back out. I think a shed a bit bigger than these calf sheds would work perfect. With some panels in the front you could lead the cow into and then shut her in. I’ll add it to the never ending project list haha
@@LuthiRanchWY how much on average did it cost to butcher a steer ? A pig for me is $350 to 500 just depends on usda or non usda . I'd pay 500 for usda or 400 for non from same butcher and just a butcher that I could just call up it would be 350 unless I went nuts with tons of smoked sausage exc
@@LuthiRanchWY ok awesome I look forward to to you welding up some big shed in your spare time 🤪
My butcher charges $.95 per pound Hanging Weight and a $100 slaughter fee. So a good size steer costs me around $900 to have butchered. I’ve only done a few USDA ones since I sell most of mine as shares. I don’t remember them charging me more for the USDA option besides a one time fee for getting my custom label made.
@@LuthiRanchWY when is the next video 🤪
Do you have a website for selling beef, or is by word of mouth? Doing great on your videos…
Thanks! We don’t have a website yet. I’ve thought about one but all of our beef has been sold word of mouth. I mostly focus on selling shares ,1/4’s, 1/2’s and wholes since I don’t feel like I have the time to deal with individual cuts and smaller orders. If we do start a website I will let everyone know on here also!
I've got one of his roasts in the crockpot right now, 😁 is very high quality beef, order some!
👍💪🙏
Thanks!
18:46 LMFAO That is funny.
Haha I think I missed my calling to be a comedian.
Always trust gut instinct it will always be the right decision.!
I’ve come to believe that also!
Just think texas farmers use them estwing pry bars too ha ha have to paint them different colors so in laws do not claim them
Haha they come in handy. You can find all kinds of uses for them!
