Just came across this video but not before I had a problem with my Truma pump failing. By accident I couldn’t get a replacement and instead got a Whale pump. What a difference! Easier to fit and a really flexible pipe making it much easier when you swap from one aqua roll to another.

Thank you so much! I thought it was just me that had this problem. My Dad, an experienced caravanner thought I was daft!

Another great Video! Thank goodness ive had Bailey caravans with the Whale pumps for the last 5 years. Prior to that i had a new Lunar Quasar with the Truma pistol grip pump, absolutely horrid! I always remember the pistol grip part kept coming apart. So now you have a UK company showing the Germans the correct way to make their own pumps!

Fantastic advice Dan. I didn’t even realise this design of pump existed. I’ve experienced exactly the same issues as you over the last 12 months with the Truma pump, so I bought the Whale after seeing this and what a difference it makes! I can stand my barrel upright now and no longer have to fill it up three times a day, despite it already being half full of water!
Thanks again for the great tip.

Excellent. FYI - I’m still using this very same pump now, even when I thought I broke it, it was just a corroded terminal on the caravan. - so they do last!

The submersible pump that came with our 2006 caravan, Truma Trauma, was a pathetic dribble. Les, bent my ear about it on several occasions. So I did some homework and bought a Whale. What a difference, I have carried the original for a few months in case there was a problem but the next trip will be a pump lighter.

Thanks Dan this is really useful. We too have a Lunar Clubman and we are away in Cornwall on our holiday. Arrived yesterday and the b****y Truma pump played up right from the off. Then we had a water leak under one of the beds so not using our system at present. I have had all of the issues you have mentioned and have also been fed up with it.Was going to buy another pump now it will be a Whale. Thanks for the info 😁

OMG thank you for this video, I've been at my whits end with my trauma pump.
Dan you are a god, I'm on my second pump in 3 months as I thought the leaking was an issue with the individual unit, not the actual design. I had no idea you could change the brand of pump, naively I thought they were specific to the make of caravan.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Brilliant! First time out with our recently purchased Sterling last weekend and we had a nightmare with the Truma pump. It had clearly been rolled fairly tightly by the previous owner, had a couple of nasty kinks so the flow was very slow, and was so inflexible that it kept rolling itself up out of the water in the aquaroll. It had worked ok on a warm September day when tested in our garden, but a cold November day on site was a different matter. A quick search on the 'net brought up your video and I'm delighted to find that whale have produced a better alternative. Mine's on order, I'm confident the air will be less blue next time out.

  • @jasetheace71
    @jasetheace71 6 років тому

I was convinced that the pump was inside the caravan and it was just a filter that sat in the aquaroll....your videos are amazing, saying that...i now have umpteen jobs to do at the weekend lol...water-pipe cleaning...gas-level checks...battery checks, although it does have a solar panel on the roof....damp-checks, have purchased a meter and will put it to good use :-)
I have apps to download too, and also workout how our virgin media can transmit the F1 races to the smart tv....it's supposed to be a "weekend break" lol...

Another great video Dan and fantastic support for a great Northern Ireland company like Whale. Their customer service should you need to use it, is second to none. We have the Whale heating system on our Bailey and its great. We have had one issue with it whilst on holiday, they even sent their Managing Director to our caravan site to fix it for us, but luckily their phone engineer fixed it before he got there and the Manager Director was turned back.

Same problem here, didn't knew about this whale solution. I changed the Truma hose by a sillicon protection hose and a sillicon innertube. I have the impression that this will work fine. No force to the connector, no bends.

Couldn't agree more with the issues with the Truma pump, it's a real pain when you're on an uneven pitch. I don't know about you, but I feel the water pressure is very low with it too. It's annoying to have to buy a different pump to solve this issue though, more expense....
    Great video as usual!

Thanks for this very useful video! I had a whale-pump from the start but accidentally had it run dry (which happens quite easily). I replaced it with a comet pump which basically looks the same and was a little cheaper plus it has a 30min dry run capability. But I keep forgetting to turn the pump off in the van before I drive away in the car to get the aqua roll filled. There is much danger in damaging the pump again, so overall I'm not too happy about this design.

  • @Sidetops11
    @Sidetops11 7 років тому

Certainly very useful Dan. We currently have a Trauma, and have noticed how stiff it is and everytime I refill the Aquaroll it has to be removed and refitted again. The Whale looks a much better design. Looks like you've helped me spend money again, although for a beneficial reason! Best wishes to you all.

Get rid of the Aqua roll all together. Just buy the Truma Ultraflow Waterline that runs straight to tap. Saying that, the Truma Pumps are very tinny and it did leak a bit even when it was brand new when I first used it. Every time you unplugged it, it felt like it was going to break apart.

Hi Dan Brilliant Video. I have trouble with my Truma pump as well and Ive been blaming the onboard water pump for my problem but after watching you video I thought time for me to change my pump as well.Picked one up at the Caravan and Motorhome show I think I was robbed price wise but it cured my problem .At first fill when we set up and wanted to use water I had loads of water hammer at the onboard water pump. After just raising pump and andplacing back in the barrel a couple of times the water hammer has now gone which allows my onboard water pump to run quieter .. I thought this may help other users. Thanks again for the reviews

A easy fix if your confident and a bodger. I would shorten both inlet and wiring to pump connector inlet so it wont bend to the extent of breaking or and leave enough to fit in to aqua roll.

Have a chat with your local roofer, ask them for a small sheet of lead and wrap it round the pump head. The weight will keep it down at the bottom where it belongs. Keep it tight with plastic pull through tie.

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  4 роки тому

      Lead? in fresh water? nope.
To keep it down, just use a straight section of plastic pipe, split down one side. that will hold the pump straight facing the bottom of the Aquaroll.

Also it strikes us that if you are on a serviced pitch with mains water, the Truma Ultraflow can take that flow without needing the pump to operate...We have a 2013 Eccles Sport 442

Wished I'd seen this video earlier as we had this problem recently when we ran out of water at Burford (just after dark!).
Re-filled the Aqua Roll and when connected with the Truma pump got drenched when the pipe connector had come off inside the pump connector at the caravan end.
As a result got drenched , cut finger and sweaing trying to get the offending Truma clip back onto the pipe once back inside the caravan iwhere there was some light
Ended up repairing with a s/steel jubilee clip and some electrical tape to stop the jubilee clip touching the spade connectors.
My brother had the same problem with his coming off too.
Anyone who hasnt replaced their Truma pump might want to do this fix before it happens to them.
Now thanks to Dans vids off fix the loo warning light and make some LED awning lights.

Hi Dan, We have the Truma pistol grip thingy but no pump on the end, the pump is onboard. Same issue though its a pig to fit or remove, the whole fitting on the 'van side flexes and I'm sure it'll shatter in cold weather. Do Whale do a version to replace the Truma jobby i.e. pistiol grip and hose but no pump? Buying the part you show for c£50 then cutting off the pump would be a bit steep.

Yeah, i see no reason why not. new housing, and attach the existing wiring to the new terminals. If you use the Whale housing, they have 3 terminals (2 for power, 1 for illuminating the pump in use led) and an inbuilt pressure switch. The housing requires a 12v feed (always on when the pump is switched on from the panel) - so this might be the neatest solution for you.

Hi Dan - I followed your lead and swapped water pumps and there has been a positive difference. However, it still float up in the aquaria. So, having looked at your recent video on 'The Aquaroll' I noted your comment on the 'Pump Connection' which holds the pump at the bottom of the container. So I bought one. I think you know what comes next - how do you use it? Do I have to disconnect the pump from the hose and electrics and thread it through then re-connect? Or have I just lost the plot!! Your advise would be very much appreciated. Trust you and your family are well and well have good times away this summer. Cheers. Mike

we also have had issues with the brand new external Truma ultraflow pump coming apart so we took your advice and upgraded to the whale pump you suggested. Unfortunately this pump is blowing the fuse every time we connect it. Have you any suggestions?

Hi Susan, Oh dear - that doesn't sound good. perhaps you have a faulty unit. I would recommend you exchange it, it certainly shouldn't be blowing fuses - it pulls very little current, so for a fuse blow i would think it is either jammed or faulty.
      I recommend a replacement.
      Hope that helps
      Dan

    Hi Dan,
Having problems with a Bailey Discovery with the Ultraflow system fitted. We can only get hot water for approx 3 mins tops, then the combi will stop heating water, the hot water icon on the display flashes and we get a nice smell of hot metal/plastic through the vents? Could this be down to a lack of flow from one of these pumps or more likely a combi fault?? Thank you.

Hi Mike, i would look at the flow that the pump is pulling through. it maybe the pump pipe is kinked, or some debris in the pump filter. i would recommend you speak with your dealer though and see what they suggest.

If your like me and wondering does this pump make any difference to the water pressure in the van compared to the truma pump. Then read no further...it does...infact it’s like a power shower now compared to the once pitiful excuse of a shower produced by the truma pump. Purchased and tested this week.

Sorry, sent that too early. What I was going to say was, I appear to have the Truma Ultraflow fitted but I cannot tell if it is the standard one, the compact or the winter. It is a bit confusing. What I WANT to do is fit a filter system so I was looking at the conversion kits for the Ultraflow. The trouble is I don't really know what I have now so I don't know if there is a replacement and , if there is, what one to go for. My aim is to filter the water coming into the caravan. It is potable water but I want to take out the taste and particulates. I really cannot work out where I am now and if there is a suitable solution. Any ideas? Ray

Love to know how to fit this setup to my system. If I need to keep my old system and add this to it or is there a way of using both together. Have a hobby kmfe 650 2017 with 50lt water tank. What would I need and how I could connect it.

Thankyou 'The Trudgians' - like many others I've been having problems with the Truma for 2 years, way too stiff, won't turn into the Aquaroll due to the height issue and keeps blowing the hose end off! thought it was just me, like you I also had problems turning the aquaroll on its side, not least (without realising) the top cap leaks so on its side all the water slowly drains out. Also felt I was going to break the damned thing every time I connected it. So many times I've had to stand outside pressing down on the hose in order for the thing to unkink so we can have water! - excellent review on your experience, thank you for sharing .. I can see light at the end of the tunnel and water emerging the taps!!! .. just one last thing! is the flow volume from the Whale a match for the Truma?

Stuart Lawson hi Stuart - glad to have helped. No the flow rate isn’t the same. It’s far far greater. It really is light & day. Also after months of usage I must add that initial priming and air locks are now also vastly improved.
      Hope that helps.

Just a minor point is that the trauma (spell checked changed it from Truma to trauma which is ironic) does actually have a similar clip to hold the pipe whilst you’re refilling. It’s the little blue clip on top of I remember correctly. Having said that you are entirely correct in that it is a dreadful design for all the reasons you pointed out. Wish I’d known that whale made that alternative but I have whale now anyway as changed van.

Paul Paton yes it does. Never looked back. The true difference is felt in the shower.

    • @TheTrudgians

Hi Roy, i would expect this may help. The cracks would appear from the pistol grip being quite stiff to insert and wiggling around etc.

Hi, I have just changed my Caravan, I now have a Compass Corona 505. I appear to be using a lot more water in this van compared to the Elddis Riviera 482 I used to have. They both had the Truma water heating System. The problem I have is the heater over flow is constantly dripping, sometimes quite rapidly when the hot tap is open. Is there anything I can do to stop the Leak Please.

Great product review! I didn't know that Whale did a Truma fitting but now I do I will be getting one for next season. The truma pump is glued on to the pipe which meant I could not replace it with a generic pump when I had an issue a while ago. Is the Whale one the same, or is there just a jubilee clip?

Huge thanks for this Dan, I've been struggling to work out which Whale Pump model replaces that Ultraflow. We've been away twice now in our new caravan and I'm not a fan of the Truma pump so have been looking for a replacement.

  • @andrewterry7746

Hi all. Has anyone who has bought the Whale pump suffered with the connector (to the caravan) intermittently coming off and resulting in no pump/water? Used the Whale pump about 4 weekends and it's self detached 3 times despite me making sure the connector is "fully home" into the caravan piece and the blue clip as far as I can see, is located over what appears to be a locking tab. Never had this occur with the Truma pump/connector.
    Thanks in advance.
