  • If your caravan (or motorhome) off board water pump stops working it can seem like an insurmountable disaster but don't panic as in this video I'll run through the likely causes and simple fixes to get it going again.
We have a Whale based system but the majority of the issues discussed apply to Truma and other makes.

Hi there, we arrived onsite with our new van waterpump not working. Tried everything, phoned dealer but couldn't help till next morning. Watched your video and got it working. Cleaned up the exterior contacts and eureka, it worked. Thanks very much. We were 100,s miles from home, life saver.

Thanks Dave, had this problem early last year, I checked everything and by adjusting the pressure valve it started working fine,👍.

Thanks Buster, I was in two minds about leaving the section about the pressure switch in , as I thought it may be too uncommon. Glad I left it in 👍

Thank you for the video, I have an 2017 elddis avante with the pressure system. When you turn the power switch on it pumps water in fine, once at pressure you turn the taps and nothing. I have to manually turn the power on & off again for the pump to start, would you have any ideas please ? Mike

I would say it is most likely that the pressure switch isn't calibrated correctly. Locate the pressure switch adjustment dial and then with the pump turned on try turning the adjustment dial in or out until the pump starts running. Then back it off just a touch until the pump stops. It could be that the pressure switch has failed but calibration is the first thing to try.

Hi, thanks for video. I have question becasue at the switch there is and ext and int, do we have two pumps there ? because when I switch to ext nothing happens, shall you explain this topic to us ?

Hi, if you have "INT" and "EXT" labels on the control panel then you will almost certainly have an onboard water tank in ADDITION to the temporary external tank (usually an aqua roll or similar). If you switch to INT then you should hear the pump running in the onboard tank (it's easy to hear as it is inside the van). Unless you've filled the tank up it will likely be running dry.
The EXT setting turns on the external pump but you will have to have plugged it into the side of the van (as you should see in my video). If the external pump is plugged in but not running then check the contacts as I showed in my video.
      Good luck.

Would you any suggestions on how to free the impeller on a pump.

Are you certain that the motor is running or at least trying to and that the impellar is stuck?
If so, I can't see any way to get to the impeller without breaking open the whole unit, which would likely destroy it. The lower blue filter cap comes off easily enough but doesn't expose much of the impeller.
You could try disconnecting the water hose at the top of the pump and blowing through it, which could possibly clear any debris.
As a last resort I guess you could try temporarily connecting the power with opposite polarity. Depending on the motor type, it may reverse the direction which could free it. But that's a long shot and I couldn't guarantee it wouldn't also harm the motor.
Tbh if the impeller is jammed, then the motor is likely to already be burned out if it's been powered on for any length of time.
      Best of luck.

Hi, every hour or so my onboard system makes a noise like the water is being turned on but , it only lasts about 2 seconds then goes off. The water is running fine . Any ideas what the problem could be setting off the onboard pump?

I have a whale pump that will not turn off after running water, if i turn the switch off then on it is fine until I call for water again, I dont appear to have any adjustments for pressure either on the switch (yellow back 3 wires) or externally on the pipework... Any suggestions ?

    • @DTSquared
      @DTSquared  2 місяці тому

Does it start running as soon as you turn the system on?
Does it eventually turn off after a while?
Can you see any electrical wires going to the tap itself?
