    Nice! You just saved me 80 bucks! I have a 2012 Corolla myself. Always overpaying for an oil change.

    Instead of buying the tool, you can use a large pair of channel locks...works just fine👍..thanks for the video!!!

    This is the only oil change video I have seen, where the person changed the oil filter first, before draining the oil from the pan! The oil filter should be removed first, because it takes much less time to drain all of the oil out of the filter housing, than it does to drain all of the oil out from the oil pan! I always allow at least one to two hours to drain the oil from the drain plug! This way I get much more of the old oil out than I could, if I only let it drain for say, fifteen minutes!

    im confused about the pin. when you put it back on you said it is a safety measure to help keep the filter from unscrewing. But you took the filter off with out removing the pin. Or did you remove it to begin with but failed to film it? Otherwise, great video! please explain the pin part.

      You shouldn't have to touch the retaining clip but if your oil filter cap wrench doesn't fit correctly then you may need to remove it...

      Steven Sevek thanks, seems like I broke it off but it never had an effect on it. Filter never loosened.

    Me: Ok, I can do this, it doesn't look complicated...
    Also me: Omgee, what if the jack doesn't hold up my car at one point, and it falls on me??
    I'm going to try it, regardless lol!

      I think you shouldn't do things without ramps.

    • @njsongwriter
      @njsongwriter 4 роки тому +6

      Never rely on a jack alone. Use jack stands and block your wheels. If you use ramps, set your parking brake and put the transmission in Park. If it's manual transmission put in in low or reverse and block the wheels.

    I suggest before sliding the new filter cartridge into the cartridge housing, you use brake clean to clean out old oil from the housing. Get out as much old oil as you can before putting in new oil!

    Hi I got a question. I just changed the oil put in close to five quarts. But the dip stick only has two dots. I've have had this car long or know a lot about it. The oil on the dip stick looks way over the two dots. There's no other markings on it. I figured there would be 4 dots. It's like the oil gets all over the dip stick when I take it out. I flushed the engine so the oil is very clean so I can't tell. Should I drain some out or could someone tell me how to read the dip stick on this thing? Thanks.

      The Toyota 1.8 Liter holds 4.4 Quarts so it should be close. The level should be at or under the top dot. If in doubt a small amount can be drained out.

    Never owned a car with anywhere near difficulty changing oil filter. Car has this bucket-type oil filter. Every car I've owned in past 40 years had the now standard stand-alone oil filter any diy-er can unscrew by hand. Filter housing on my 2012 corolla is a plastic cover in the worst location possible when working on ramps. After hours of unsuccessful attempts to remove the cover, including torquing a wrench to pieces I will have to pay the local oil change franchise to do this job for me. Wish I had known that the number 1 selling car of all time will have to have an oil change done by another party. had I known I would have bought a civic instead.

      General rule of thumb is every 6 months or every 5000 miles, full synth can go a little longer. Check your car's manual to be sure.

    Since you didn't show the o-ring being changed...
    I know there's a notch in the oil filter cap that looks like it would be for a pick or screwdriver but Toyota says not to use such tools in the instructions that come with the OEM filter.
    How & why to replace an o-ring without any tools.
    See this one minute video...

    There's no reason to remove the retaining clip next to the oil filter cap unless you're using the wrong oil filter cap wrench.

    I don't understand, why do you have to jack up the car and do all the hard stuff? Isn't adding oil regularly, just means put engine oil inside the hood? I got corolla 2011, and very newbie to the car.

    • @LadiesMan.217.
      @LadiesMan.217. 5 років тому +7

      It's ok everyone learns. You need to jack up the car in order to drain the old oil *(if old oil is left in the car it can cause damage to your engine)* from the bottom of the car, as well as get to the filter *(filter location varies between cars, in this subject we are talking about a corolla).* After you have drained the old oil from the bottom of your car as well as replaced the filter, you are then able to add oil into your engine.
      Hopefully this helps, I too am learning myself. I haven't done an oil change yet but I do know a thing or two about engines.
