Civilization V Leader | Casmir III of Poland

  • Опубліковано 8 лип 2013
  • King Casimir III, the only Polish king to earn the subsequent title of "the Great," reigned during the 14th Century AD and established himself as a decisive and able ruler, relying on his skill in diplomacy and sensible decision-making to greatly improve the well-being of his people and security of his kingdom. Although Casimir's predecessor, his father King Wladyslaw I, was respected for having reunited the divided realm, Casimir inherited a kingdom rife with challenges. In rebuilding a depleted economy, strengthening the military, codifying the law, and expanding the borders of Poland, Casimir left his country much better than he found it - and sealed his legacy as one of Poland's greatest kings. By the time of his death, Casimir III had assured the prestige and respect of Poland throughout medieval Europe.

    0:44 *Moje armie zetrą Cię w proch!* The weird thing is that even when you don't speak Polish, you still can understand at least two words as a native English Speaker here if you are a good listener. Despite the fact that English is a Germanic language. Considering that what he said means "My armies will grind you to dust!"

    Here's are the dialogues of the leader's words:
    1. I, Casimir the Great, welcome you to the lands of the Great Kingdom of Poland.
    2. Let's hear it... Good.
    3. No.
    4. Proceed. Absolutely Not.
    5. My armies will grind you to dust!
    6. A hundred times, no.

    'Cause Austrians were introduced earlier and during that time Firaxis probably doesn't think about adding Poland to Civ5. They give them red-white colors to be distinctive for other civs. When they released Poland that color scheme was already taken, so they decide to give Poland vermillion-granite scheme, for the sake of distinctiveness (althought I think that vermillion-silver would be better scheme).

  • @Alphathon
    @Alphathon 11 років тому +1

    Presumably because: a) Austria came first (G&K vs BNW), so they made Austria without thought for Poland's colours b) Austria's modern flag and medieval colours are both red-white-red, c) Firaxis always use the same two colours for the arms/logo/icon as they do for the culture borders, and d) two white eagles on a red background would be very confusing (and when you include England, there would be three countries white+red culture borders).

    I don't know about other civ leaders but this version of native (Polish) language is wrong. He speaks with MODERN Polish while Polish people in The Late Middle Ages spoke in Old Polish which was more similar to Czech language when it comes to pronunciation. Modern day Polish stress or acute accent on the next to last syllable. In The Late Middle they were stressing on the first syllable.

      Noticing similarities between words from two different slavic languages equals being offensive? You heard it here first people, you are not allowed to mishear, misunderstand or the like when it comes to languages, especially languages you do nit speak or else this person here will be offended. You wouldn't want to offend a random polish guy on the internet would you? Oh the horror of such a thing! Hiw dare you even consider offending mister Karol? Have you any idea who he is? He is a polish person on the internet! Can any of you claim anything even remotely worthy of respect? I didn't think so!

    The strangest thing is that Casimir was 'great' mostly because he was very high. His politics used to be mostly peaceful (with the exception of one, victorious campaign) and he screwed his job as left no legal heir (having loads of bastards)- thus he was the last king of Piast dynasty. If any Polish king deserves this title, it is certainly Boleslav I, most often called 'the brave' (but in medieval polish, kievan and german chronicles is called 'the great')- true conqueror (he tripled his realms territory), good diplomat (grandfather of thre scandinavian kings) and the first one with crown on his head.
