@@blueberrycobbler im sorry but no at his age its trauma or neglect or smoking. you can have crowding which makes it more difficult to floss but you can still use a water pick so it really boils down to taking the time to do it. i work in dentistry and i have to clean teeth on pts with braces/crowding/bridge work/ you name it; is it more difficult to get into tight spaces? yes, but it is still easier to get floss between teeth than a dental scaler/ultrasonic which is much thicker. the only part genetics play in your teeth is how your teeth look, which could cause problems if you grind your teeth and have small teeth, to begin with but not "hereditary gingivitis". also dont brush so hard. I hope he gets his teeth fixed one day!
