I would never be able to find it, but within the last two months there was a review where Dave said the owner didn't want to serve him a pie because he was afraid of the increase. Sure enough, awesome pie.

Dave is no joke when it comes to reviewing pizza. He tells it like it is and that's why people are flocking to this place....they KNOW it's good when Dave says it is.
Unless the owner slithers into the review, then Dave inflates the score. We've all seen it many times
He also bases scores around how he’s feeling as well. Better mood better score.
Ive tried most of his high scores in NJ/NY. Some of them are great but anyone will say that. For example lucali, johns of bleeker and di fara are all great but everyone feels that way. Then theres others that should have gotten much higher scores. It does depend on how he feels that day. This pizza is literally burnt cheese with a cardboard bottom. I hope they make a ton off his review but at the same time this will be another review that only dave will think is a 9.1

Fair play to Dave Portnoy, I’ve seen countless reviews and he reviews honestly and fairly. Seems like a genuine guy too. Well done to this pizza place also. 9.1 is an incredible score if you know how Dave scores pizza

I’m way down here in Louisiana and Dave has my family and I planning a whole vacation to go up there just to try some of his highest rated places. As a small business owner I respect Dave for what he is doing.

There's another recent review Portnoy did in Brooklyn where he called the owner a "pizza genius" and gave them a great score. My best friend lives one block from that place and had never heard of it or noticed it when walking by, so go figure.

That’s such a great story! Hey, I live in a town where there are many restaurants and it’s still hit n miss and they still use covid etc for excuses. This reminds me of the the movie spanglish where Adam Sandler plays a chef who wants a good review but not a great one. He knows he will will have to work extra hard, be swamped with reservations, everyone will have the highest expectations, and his regulars will have to take a back seat to all the new people that want to try his food. She was very cute. And portnoy surprised us during the crunch time on a Saturday. He didn't have time to really talk or acknowledge. We had deadlines to meet.
Maybe the news station called in advance and he could make the time for them? You did notice that he was baking all of the pizzas himself and really busy when Dave walked in, right? And Dave prefers it when the owner isn't hovering around him when he reviews...

That depends on many variables beyond just what you said. Giving people advice that if they try their best they're going to succeed isn't good advice imo.
