My favorite player ever. Pops used to take me to the Spectrum when I was a kid to watch Doc, Moses, Mo Cheeks, Andrew Toney, Chocloate Thunder, and Chuck
He was one of the best in an era where guys tried 100% and weren't big babies. Dude was the mvp on the Olympic team, a team full of the best players to ever play.
Still can't believe Magic said that. MJ was the best player on that team and it wasn't close. I'm a Lakers fan and have a ton of respect for Magic but that was crazy talk.
Yup. Sir Charles had immense talent and heart. Especially at that size doing what he did amongst the paint of huge guys and the physicality is absolutely incredible. Loved Sir Charles man. Everyone tried to play like him.
He actually improved and added more tools to his game with time. He was the most amazing player i have ever seen. I still remember his most insane moment : He was grabbing another defensive rebound while facing his own basket, then, while still mid air, he turned 180 and threw that ball all the way across the court to his teammate for an easy layup. Insane.
Coming from the era of the 70's, he reminded me of undersized center the late, great Wes Unseld in terms of how dominate he was at his size. Wes Unseld was a 6'7" center and was as tough as they come. He played against the legendary Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Bob Lanier, Jack Sikma, Bill Walton and of course Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for starters. Charles Barkley was dominate like that, check out his pass at the pass he whips at 8:40. That pass is ridiculous, full speed, moving away from the play, hitting a target moving toward the basket and hit him perfectly in stride. Even crazier is his teammate was expecting the pass from that far away.
Well, their points, assists, steals and blocks numbers on a per game basis are pretty similar. They're also both undersized PFs, both listed at 6'6", and both very athletic and powerful. Zion can jump even higher and run faster since he's shredded, but Barkley was far more skilled and a much better rebounder and passer.
@@isaiahayers1550 Biggest difference between Zion and Barkley was mental. Barkley went for the kill EVERY NIGHT, he was extremely determined to dominate each game, which is what he did. Barkley was also much better shooter than Zion.
@user-ox5qd7mb6r Before he was a killer, he was a kid, who didn't want to be drafted by 76ers, overweight, talented but lazy. Then he took Moses Malone mentoring, and a star was born.
Charles was clearly top ten. Anyone who might deny Charles was one of the best ever either never saw him play or are deluded. In today's NBA, if it weren't for the obvious disadvantages of age and stamina, any player who might choose to disrespect his talents would get posterized on a nightly basis.
I once saw him in a game in 1985-86. He was against a group of players who were much taller than he was and he was moving and shaking so fast and quick in the post on the offensive rebound, so spectacular. If only he is 6 foot 9.
Freak of nature player. He was one of the players that I loved to watch because he always made me wonder. "How in the world did he do that? How could he do that easily against a taller player?" There were years when I was asking: "Who's better? MJ or Barkley?"
Saw him in college, charismatic: cheerleader told him to miss the free throw, he winked at her, and swished the shot. Later, he went coast to coast (yes, with the all that fat) slammed it arm.
This is the era in my opinion and I'm pretty sure I can speak for everyone that was old enough to watch and appreciate this era there was no such thing as load management which makes it all the more impressive people really left it all on the court not to say that there aren't any players that do it in this day and age but it is soooooooooo different than back in the day
Charles Barkley would back you down and shoot over people. You could not stop this. He was big and fast he would average about 30pts. and 15 rebounds in today's NBA 😊 He was fun to watch.
Barkley's efficiency is underrated even at ~54%. Reason being is that he liked to shoot 3s every now and then, but wasn't really good from the arc. So technically speaking, his efficiency is better than one would think. People don't realize that Sir Charles literally the second best player in the league (behind a PRIME MJ) for good amount of time.
35 easy dude was one of my fav! Great post and face up game and could be clutch at time in big moments! aka the Round Mound of Rebound aka Sr. Charles - anything would be uncivilized! Great commercials! Gave David Robinson 50 and hit the game winner dude was a walking bucket
For sure he is gonna get more points but what will actually significantly increase is his assist and rebounds. In this era, there are a lot of shooters. If they double chuck down low, he will find that open man every time. In terms of rebounds, there arent a lot of great rebounders nowadays so he doesnt have a lot of competition like he used to.
Barkley came to Phoenix, I started watching basketball, going to some games. Game Six against the Bulls, seats in the last row in the building …. Then the Diamondbacks beat the Yankees…. Jerry Colangelo, an owner that wasn’t an a**hole
@@MrRoda8143 not lying but I doubt they had a measuring tape with them. Even 6'6" is short for a PF so you can see how they would've exaggerated his lack of height a little.
In this era? Prime Chuck would probably have a couple of seasons where he would either get close to, or actually get to, 20 rebounds a game. He'd have SEVERAL seasons OVER 30 in this era. With SEVERAL seasons over 5 assists a game.
He never looked fat while playing to me. Everybody who played against him said he was though and there are legends about him eating large pizzas and more by himself.
Not that I was ever even going to play college ball, but I patterned my game after Charles. I chose #34 as well. I was a 5'8, thicker dude, playing a 4 position in high school and averaged 8 boards a game, and when I got going on offence, no one ever stepped in to take a charge against me. I even developed a decent shot once I saw him go to Phoenix and hit threes. Charles, in the off chance that you'll see this, thanks for the tip of jumping fences. Scared the hell outta me at first, but the hops came. And thanks for always speaking your mind, especially about them 'big ole women' in Texas.. hahahaha Ridiculous.. hahaha
Glad we have tapes. If not for these videos, Charles Barkley the analyst entertainer would be celebrated more than Charles Barkley the explosive power forward.
I think he would average about 30pts.15 Reb. And 8 Assist.... He has the perfect game because a lot of Bigs Play from 3 pt. Line to 3 pt. Line he would be a huge problem no doubt about it.....
Charles was a beast.Arguably the best power forward of all time.Listen to the comments. He started the No Layup Rule.Today's players could not play in that era. .Listen to the praise Michael Jordan gives him.
For sure he would get ridiculous rebounds. Most teams play small. Even the teams that don’t for example wolves that have two bigs. Neither one of those big play in the paint.
Charles would also not want to play in this era with all the rules 'protecting feelings'. You can't even dunk on a guy and tell him about himself, without getting fined or having some group come at you for hate speech.. Ugh.. Charles is a warrior in the garden, playing with gardeners at war..
That 6’4 narrative is played. Side by side with Mike they were basically the same height. I think I read he was 6’4 and 3/4 in socks. Which means he’s right at 6’6 in shoes, his listed height. He also has a 6’10 wingspan and a tremendous vert.
Chuck avg 30/15 n he not gonna shoot 3s he had that mentality and smarts to kno what he could Excel so he would be going to lane getting putbacks EVERYTIME

Those are the special memories, I love my Wizards and I treasure the memories of watching KG, Nash, Arenas and even Kwame Brown
How could you leave out Bobby Jones?

Charles Barkley is one of a kind a true original. I dont think there will be another Charles Barkley.

It’s cool to see Charles get his love. The dude was a beast. I wish he could’ve won a championship.
Charles Barkley would average at least 30 points 57% FG 15 rebounds and more than 5 assists .
Not far from what he did in his time 💪🏾💪🏾
I agree.

CB34 was a BEAST. My favorite player of all time
My favorite player also 💯
Right with you!
Best ever!
Sir Charles Barkley is one of the greatest players ever in NBA History and one of the favorite players
If Chuckster played today good sir.. it's an easy 25-30+ and add a couple of 10+ boards
Chuck avg about 25 and 12 rebounds in his prime. So today it would be closer to 30 with14 rebounds.

hard not to love Barkley. he has always been a character. he was a legit great player
Barkley is and always be A+Legends of the Game for sure. ❤ everyone loves you bro and TNT 🧨 crew. Theses men where Warriors

He would definitely be unstoppable in todays basketball 🏀
Charles had a good stroke too. He took a lot of contested 3s. If he was isolated like they do today, he'd definitely improve there
Growing up in the nineties, Charles was one hell of a gutsy, very talented athlete !!
oh man, i wish we can see a prime barley (phoenix suns version) to play in today’s NBA, he will eviscerate today’s PFs

I RESPECT MJ AS THE BEST TO EVERY PLAY...
BUT CHARLES WAS HANDS DOWN MY FAVORITE PLAYER GROWING UP...OVER MJ
Charles was a guard in high school. He grew 5 inches his senior year.
He changed how we picked guys at the park playing 5 on 5 ..Had to have a solid low post-round mound of rebound. height was no longer important.
