I really appreciated the tips on slicing the meat and chilling the pot lid. Now I won't need to wait endlessly for my lid gasket to cool down. I have a tip for making MUCH BETTER gravy from professional chefs on PBS: Melt the butter in the empty pot then add the flour and and stir until it is slightly browned then add the liquid. Your gravy will no longer have any of the flour taste and it will be exquisite.
wow great video i'm finally not so intimidated to try to use it! Just need to find a recipe our family with so many allergies can eat... i'll be checking your site first! Wonderfully done thank you!
I made this today for lunch exactly as your video shows. It was absolutely delicious. I bought a gravy strainer too and it works. The gravy made with flour and butter was a big hit. Thanks so much for the terrific recipe.
Nikki, thank you SO much for your comments about my recipe! I'm thrilled to hear that you enjoyed it. The gravy strainer really helps and the kneaded butter does add flavor and body to the gravy. Enjoy!😋
A rump roast is too lean and will dry out when cooked in a pressure cooker. Chuck is the one you want to use for this recipe for fork tender results. 🙂
I didn't know that you had a video - yay!! This has saved the day as I'm helping someone make a roast for the first time in a pressure cooker - thank you!!
Wow...this is delightful. I'm making this tomorrow. It is super clear with presentation..I am so surprised with the "find." Can't wait to see your other uploads. Thank you so much Freida.
Frieda, thanks for taking the time to make this video. Tried this recipe today and it was delicious. Great, clear, informative video. You're the best.....!
Great tips and explanations. I love my pressure cooker. I use it to cook just for myself. People told me it wouldn't fit my life because I cook for one or two.
I invited my girl friend over tonight and she got to eat your wonderful roast and vegetables. That gravy was awesome. Just put it over bread and OOOO so good' Thank you for sharing.
Very nice and informative video. I enjoyed watching it and your style of cooking. I'm not sure I want to stick a hot lid in my fridge though. couldn't you just run it under water from your sink? thanks for the video.
Steve Kempe, yes you definitely can run it under cool water. if you turn on the annotations, you will get some additional tips. Glad you enjoyed the video!😀
sang chang, if you open up the description under the video, there is a list of equipment used, with the links. If you are on a mobile device, it's the triangle next to the title. You can find the direct link to Amazon here: (amzn.to/2nkh1og) I used the RSVP strainer and bent the handles up to fit inside the pot.😊
hey! i see you in the fb group all the time. fun to see your video! i will have to try this recipe. Haven't done a roast yet, had it over 1.5 years lol
No salt and pepper or garlic? Hum...cooking the beef with the holy trinity (onions, carrots, and celery) ensures that you have a very delicious and complex flavor. If you add potatoes...don't do a quick release or you'll have potato mush
I use a Season All purpose seasoning in my recipe. You can use any seasonings you want - garlic, salt, & pepper are perfect. The timed natural release is more for the meat; you can use a quick release for the potatoes. The cook time for potatoes depends on the cut size...the smaller the cut, the less time they will take to cook. Thanks for watching! :-)
Dang, How is this easier than just throwing it all in my Crockpot or Oven ?? Plus, the veggies cook alone, therefore not getting the flavoring from cooking with the meat.....
Throwing your meat/veggies into an oven or crockpot is easier, *but* either way takes more time and the flavor is different. Roasting in an oven can take 3-4 hours and a crockpot 4-8 hours. Flavor-wise, the oven roasting is great, but the crockpot has a more watered down taste in my opinion. Yes, in pressure cooking, the veggies cook after the meat, but that is because of the short cooking time. If I cook the veggies in with the meat, they will turn to mush and not hold their shape. The veggies are cooked in a steamer basket with the beef broth, so they retain all the flavor from the meat. In all, this is about 20 minutes hands on prep time, the pressure cooker does the rest and is totally worth it. I've done many pot roasts several ways and by far, this recipe and method far exceed in taste and texture. The only way you'll know is if you give it a try. :-)
I just wanted you to know that I made my very first roast ever (I'm 59 years old) and I did it following this video, and made it in my new Instant Pot. It turned out perfectly! Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I really wish you would make some new ones.
Cheryl, I'm thrilled you enjoyed both the video and the pot roast! Congrats on your new Instant Pot - I'm sure you will continue to enjoy it. I have enjoyed making videos, but am having a challenge finding the time. When the kids are in school, I hope to video many more of my favorites!
Thank you for the great idea of adding butter to your flour before adding to liquid to thicken👩🏼🍳.
You're welcome. It's a great way to add flavor & body to the gravy. 🙂

Can a rump roast be used instead of a chuck roast?
A rump roast is too lean and will dry out when cooked in a pressure cooker. Chuck is the one you want to use for this recipe for fork tender results. 🙂
Thank you for your quick reply. I made your quick start yogurt and it is wonderful! I love your channel! Thank you!

Where do you find the strainer basket that fits inside the instant pot?
My instant pot didn’t come any of those.
