I too was born in '61 (very late December, so still 62), discovering PS around the time of release of Langley Park to Memphis (then quickly picked up previous release Two Wheels Good/Steve McQueen, Swoon impossible to find). Instantly became my 2nd favorite band of the 80s. My top three (with no apologies due to coming late to the party, after 1980) are Squeeze, Prefab Sprout and Siouxsie and The Banshees (The Clash just edged out, even though London Calling arguably the best album of the decade, and Joy Division not really an 80s band as Ian Curtis offed himself early in that year). I’m 49 now. I just heard this song for the first time today- November 2nd, 2022. I don’t know how that happened that I went all this time without ever hearing this fantastic song before. I know if I’d have ever heard it before, it would have caught my ear like it does now. While the music I like now has dramatically expanded, I know this song has so many elements and features of music I’ve always liked. In addition, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a song from this band before. And I lived through all of the 1980s and have memories of every calendar year in that decade, many of them music-centric. There’s nothing about this song that is particularly alternative or edgy or outside of the musical mainstream at the time that would suggest this song wouldn’t have been all over the radio. And yet I’ve never heard it until today. Some things cannot be easily squared or understood.
@@patjungle9826 ...yes, i've stopped listening to almost all new music over last 20 years......still some good music but mostly junk over the last 20 years.....for Camouflage - only listen to their 1st album (that smiling face, pompeiji, music for ballerinas, i once had a dream)
I discovered this song as it was my aerobics teacher choice for the final part of coming down and stretching. That gym was great, full of really cool people and I felt very sad when it closed and their owners moved to Spain. Never felt as happy on any other gym I went after that one and this song reminds me of all the good times spent there.
@David Hargreaves I'm Not Ok With This, very good series on Netflix. King of Rock and Roll is used to great effect. The whole soundtrack to this programme is phenomenal. There's even a made-up band called Bloodwitch created for the programme by Graham Coxon of Blur and Tatyana Richaud. The Music is so good you don't ever want to skip the ever changing outros.
I'm so sorry to hear of your accident. Life throws such tests at us. Music holds and lifts us throughout our lives. It's an incredible gift. I couldn't live without music. I send you my very best wishes and good luck for the future.
I once was in love with the world. That was about when this song came out! Time has passed, but Prefab Sprout still holds up! What a genius Paddy Mcaloon is (and mind you, he has made a lot of great songs after this one. Still does as a matter of fact!)
Like so many great 'older' songs, listen to this in my sixties, and I'm young again. Best thing is, I appreciate them more now..what a time to be alive!
Heard this song on Radio 2 the other day and now I can't stop playing it. My neighbours must think I'm mad!!! Hard to believe this song didn't make the UK Top 40, brilliant song by an underrated 80's band. Paddy McAloon is a genius.
Its criminal that songs of this ilk are overlooked because they are forever linked to Hot Dog, Jumping Frog, Albuquerque. He wrote so many songs that deserved much wider acclaim. I have followed this band for 40 years now! I'm getting old xD
Steve McQueen is still in my top ten after all these years , the prefab sprout years were brilliant . Every album was waited on with great anticipation and Paddy never disappointed. Wonderful music and songwriting guaranteed
I was born in 1979 and was so lucky to catch all the 1980s and it was such a great time to be a kid..i look at my little 5 year old nephew growing up in this world today and i really fear for what is coming.
"Langley Park to Memphis", such an awesome album that I listened to through some of the biggest changes in my life, golden times, testing times with good friends, family and loves. Thank you Paddy and co, Why Aye Man!!!
2:48 - it's really cool how varied his vocal delivery is on different phrases of the next thirty seconds of the song. Practically whispering "feeling carsick" compared to the emphatically boastful "pretty streamers" in the next line is a pretty wide range of emotion.
Can't believe I am as old as I am and just discovered them last year. Sheer artistic genius at work here, they've joined my top three artists ever. Have had the 38 Carat Collection on loop pretty much for the past six months. What amazing melodies Paddy created!
I was 12 in 1980. So much happened during the next ten years that it would be impossible to list them. This song was one of those things though so enough said!
You can’t get away from great songs with great lyrics. They’re timeless ! Especially when they haven’t been re - created !!!!!!!!!! Leave them alone 👍🏼
This song has so many 80ies vibes in it... I was 14 or 15 when it came out. Long live our youth, when we had less and were happier. My friends have gone, separate liferoads, some are gone forever. As long I live I shall carry all those memories of good and bad.
I'm deeply concerned why this genius has never hit the top spot. When love breaks down is not the best song of its generation. It's the best song of all time. Thanks the Sprouts

@@abbantucobergazo8381 God bless you too! 🤗
what sharp songwriters... amazing lyrics, rhythms and melodies. wow
As a Brother for you to say that; it MUST be GOOD...can l get a witness????
Some things cannot be easily squared or understood.
somethings hurt more much more than cars and girls, and i think its time............. Time that hurts the most.
they have another song ''king of rock and roll''
@@patjungle9826 ....their songs do sound too similar though.......i'm more into Depeche Mode, Camouflage, Alphaville, The Cure..........
@@patjungle9826 ...yes, i've stopped listening to almost all new music over last 20 years......still some good music but mostly junk over the last 20 years.....for Camouflage - only listen to their 1st album (that smiling face, pompeiji, music for ballerinas, i once had a dream)
Listen to "When love breaks down" It's one of their best!!
Il n'y a pas d'âge pour écouter ce groupe excellent,et musicalement au top
I discovered this song as it was my aerobics teacher choice for the final part of coming down and stretching. That gym was great, full of really cool people and I felt very sad when it closed and their owners moved to Spain. Never felt as happy on any other gym I went after that one and this song reminds me of all the good times spent there.
THAT’S SO APT
I work in music , festivals, big gigs, Prefab sprout will always be the best band i have ever listened to
Talk Talk and Prefab Sprout I so remember listening to in my youth on a cassette Walkman
2020 and prefab is refreshingly and stubbornly relevant.
Thanks Netflix
@David Hargreaves I'm Not Ok With This, very good series on Netflix. King of Rock and Roll is used to great effect. The whole soundtrack to this programme is phenomenal. There's even a made-up band called Bloodwitch created for the programme by Graham Coxon of Blur and Tatyana Richaud. The Music is so good you don't ever want to skip the ever changing outros.
Quarantine Lockdown and some Prefab to get through the day
I haven't connected with a band this hard in a decade at least.
@David Hargreaves And "Wild Horses" is highly revered by the vaporwave crowd.
i am physically disabled by a car accident 18 years ago since then, music is my support, thanks:-))
I'm sorry to hear of your accident, and yes music does help, and this is such a great song. u take care.
@@brooksideradio thanks friend
I'm so sorry to hear of your accident. Life throws such tests at us. Music holds and lifts us throughout our lives. It's an incredible gift. I couldn't live without music. I send you my very best wishes and good luck for the future.
God bless you Miquel, sending you a hug from London.

C'est parmi un des meilleurs son de pop music des années 80 😍❤💘💛👏👏💙🤩
I once was in love with the world. That was about when this song came out! Time has passed, but Prefab Sprout still holds up! What a genius Paddy Mcaloon is (and mind you, he has made a lot of great songs after this one. Still does as a matter of fact!)
Oooffff!!! Once in love with the world… that has happened to me quit a few times and has always included some fantastic music!… like this 👍
A very catchy tune, brings me right back👍
I work with paddy's nephew. Cracking bloke!
@@jez6208 They're a brilliant, very gifted family.
Music from a better time in a better world.
Pensamos igual
👍🙋♀️
Ain't that the truth.
Cold war era, Thatcher, Chernobyl... And me singing »Hot dog, jumping frog, ..«. Better times? They are blurry...
Era un tiempo mejor sobre todo porque éramos más jóvenes 😸
What a track! Can't believe it stands upright so fiercely after so much time!
Like so many great 'older' songs, listen to this in my sixties, and I'm young again. Best thing is, I appreciate them more now..what a time to be alive!
So many memories. Good times, thanks Paddy❤
Heard this song on Radio 2 the other day and now I can't stop playing it. My neighbours must think I'm mad!!! Hard to believe this song didn't make the UK Top 40, brilliant song by an underrated 80's band. Paddy McAloon is a genius.
It was a big hit for them in 1988.
Paddy McAloon. Master songwriter
Underrated song writer
So underrated. He is an absolute genius songwriter.
💯
Its criminal that songs of this ilk are overlooked because they are forever linked to Hot Dog, Jumping Frog, Albuquerque. He wrote so many songs that deserved much wider acclaim. I have followed this band for 40 years now! I'm getting old xD
Steve McQueen is still in my top ten after all these years , the prefab sprout years were brilliant . Every album was waited on with great anticipation and Paddy never disappointed. Wonderful music and songwriting guaranteed
I remember playing this in the car driving through France. beautiful times with beautiful music. thanks Paddy you are a legend
I love Prefab Sprout when they're in up-tempo mode....this one "ticks all the boxes" , wonderful song !
I was born in 1979 and was so lucky to catch all the 1980s and it was such a great time to be a kid..i look at my little 5 year old nephew growing up in this world today and i really fear for what is coming.
I'm still listening spring 2019. 😁
Start counting.....
Watched the cure Glasto 19 then searched for what I loved but makes me so nostalgic n emotional, stop me feeling lost someone please xx
Me too sweet memories.
2020!
Neil is such a funky, talented drummer
Macaloon is a fantastic songwriter, the poignancy, hey manhattan, & many many more, so many gr8 songs, these songs are timeless.
The 80s, what a glorious time for music
Love this tune so much. So much memories. 80's was the best decade. 90's was also pretty good. Glad i was to see them. ❤️❤️💪🏽👊🏽👍🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
A strong vocal performance!
Yeeeessss, he conveys different emotions in every line!
How did this not become their first No. 1 hit. It is one of their best! Paddy McAloon, a great writer!
Can't believe I am as old as I am and just discovered them last year. Sheer artistic genius at work here, they've joined my top three artists ever. Have had the 38 Carat Collection on loop pretty much for the past six months. What amazing melodies Paddy created!
Fantastic and magical music. Fergie aged 62
I was 12 in 1980. So much happened during the next ten years that it would be impossible to list them. This song was one of those things though so enough said!
Great to read these comments. The kids I taught in the 80s loved this band, hope they remember the great music and the great times.
You can’t get away from great songs with great lyrics. They’re timeless ! Especially when they haven’t been re - created !!!!!!!!!! Leave them alone 👍🏼
Profound songwriting by a brillant 80s band.
Merveilleux souvenir de mon adolescence...61 balais ❤😂😂😂
Love it ! Just fantastic!!🎶🎵
This song has so many 80ies vibes in it... I was 14 or 15 when it came out. Long live our youth, when we had less and were happier. My friends have gone, separate liferoads, some are gone forever. As long I live I shall carry all those memories of good and bad.
Brilliant voice, brilliant song writer, great music. Pass Paddy out and about and we have a few words, lovey man, keep it going Paddy
Prefab are 'still' one of my fave bands...ever...this is such a a brilliant 'sing along song'...
Totally
I'm deeply concerned why this genius has never hit the top spot. When love breaks down is not the best song of its generation. It's the best song of all time. Thanks the Sprouts
Fabulous song, pure magic vocally and musically. They don't make 'em like this anymore.
La colonna sonora della mia gioventù, della mia spensieratezza, delle mie "fughe" notturne, di tante serate con le mie amiche...quanti ricordi!
like a breath of fresh air. Very underrated as a group, such a shame.
Whenever a Prefab Sprout tune pops up on the car radio, I always suprised how fresh it still sounds against contemporary play lists today 😮
