This song hits hard for me. After I lost my husband to cancer in 2021, the lyrics described how I felt at the time. I literally didn't want to be here no more. Only for our son, did I keep going. This song still gets me choked up though when I listen to it. Such a deep and fantastic song xx

Yo tengo 57, disfruté mucho los 80 porque era joven, pero sigo disfrutando cada decada, de hecho sigo trabajando de DJ y disfrutando mucho. La vida sigue ❤
In the early 80's I was working in the studio of a merchandise company in London and one of the t-shirt logos I was asked to design was Nick Kershaw. Wish I'd kept the t-shirt! Great days!
I am now 56 and every day I go back to the 80s.......a time when I was at comprehensive school, paper round, college, first car, first job, loads of mates, out down the pub every night, football, great music and fashion. Punks, skins and mods, nothing was false like today. I have had children and saw that none of them lived their teenage years like we did..........we were lucky.
Stop whinging - Granddad in 1942 went to war and watched his best mate get shot to bits - me in 2020? Had to stop socializing with insufferable idiots.
80s folks, because I didn't experience the 80s myself I can confirm that: The music you grew up with holds up incredibly well, the way you feel about it isn't just the nostalgia talking.
One of the greatest songs of the 1980's. This song brings back so many great memories of 1984.. Great friends, music and life in general.I would love to go back to my teenage years in that decade. Things were not perfect , but so much better than now. Nik Kershaw , you are brilliant.

Loved nik kershaw. Still do. I waited 43 yrs to get to see him live, and to own my 1st ever Nik t shirt and beanie.. my partner bought tickets for my 50th to see him at Tramshed this past October in Cardiff
I just love his enunciation and breathing technique. There's no slurring, no audible breathing or even gasping. He hits every note and syllable with precision. Given that it's "just" pop, and not something like opera, I feel like people often underestimate singers like him, no matter the commercial success. As if it were mostly just that they were born with this kind of voice. Still you need to practice just as much as someone who wants to master a musical instrument.
As someone who has butchered this song a trillion times in Karaoke-bars, I can only agree with your statement. The way he sings is actually what's gotten me hooked to the artist. It's not often that I can fully understand a songs lyrics the first time around. But it doesn't sound overly deliberate, it doesn't feel technical. Just his unique style. Love it.

This was the "light" music of the 80s ... to the face .... Thanks Nik ... One of the most beautiful hits of the period ... and then the solo with electronic horns and triplets .... ... when even the pop music was of quality and full of ideas and good taste ....... what good times ....
My best decade of all. Born in the 60's, tried to figure what growing up was all about in the 70's, went out out into the wide world in the 80's and put my stamp on it by getting married in 88. Any song in the 80's conjours up nostalgic memories for me, times, places, the smells and of course friends and acquaintances who shared those ups and downs with us. I'm a father of 3, grandad to 2 (so far), still married to the same girl who stole my heart with her crazy Maddona look. My kids and grandkids think i'm a nutter when Frankie, DuranDuran, the Cure etc. is played and i start my jigging thing going on lol but god, wouldn't it be nice to be my youth in the 80's for just one more day ...... Peace guys xxx
Your so absolutely right!!! I’m born 1970 and was a Teenager and young adult woman in the 80s. The best time ever with absolute cool and unforgettable music, with crazy unique style and - the best ! - without so much technic but with real humanes. 80s forever!
Nik was a great songwriter. The 80's pop scene was host to many bands and artists who focused on melody, feel and the dynamics of the song. From Gary Numan to Duran Duran, the blend of understated rock guitar against a synth melody line was such a good formula; the drive of rock music and the accessibility of pop. Does anyone do that now?
I'd be honored if some fans of 80s classics would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of AGAINST ALL ODDS by Phil Collins, PRAYING FOR TIME by George Michael, and EYE OF THE TIGER by Survivor on my YT channel in tribute to the era of legendary power ballads. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks & peace.
Nick Kershaw is a highly intelligent artist. His music videos are very enlightening and i believe they are designed to really make us think about life and what's going on in the world we live in.

I'd stay up late just to watch the top 10 and get a glimpse of Nik! I was crazy about him!! I'd write every lyric down on paper and practice every word! I still know every song he wrote!! Best days !! 💕😄🙏
Nik Kershaw is a musical genius, I was 11 when I first heard your music and it definitely made an imprint on my musical taste, but being young at the time I never really understood what the song was about. Fast forward today and the song resonates with so much more clarity and meaning. This song is a timely reminder that you never no what people are going through in life and to be grateful for the good things we are blessed with. Thank you Sir for creating masterful works of musical art.
Every single song my dad keeps listening over and over is a masterpiece. I don't like all of them immediately, but always end up loving them. This one I used to hate because he would blast it on the car EVERY.SINGLE.TIME ... but here I am... no one forced me to search this song... It's 4 AM and this song just seems PERFECT PS: I still live with him and as we grow older our music taste match more and more... and I am not complaining at all hehe
The Chord Progression is unlike any other Pop track ever.... Genius writing and, that instrumental melody is almost hypnotic... My youth in a few minutes 💙
Thanks Scott. Couldn’t agree more and without descending into muso pomposity Nik was a bloke who was musically accomplished, technically adept and brave in his song structures, qualities so often missing in much of ‘pop’ music especially today. Nothing derivative or formulaic about this either. First time I’ve listened in years and still ‘fresh as a daisy’ as they say or said. Great video too, Stu X
I feel like a movie of a long journey is ending..whenever I listen to this song...a movie of romantic teenage love, youth and adventure! This is one of my favorite songs.
As a kid I was scared shitless when 3:08 came along, culminating in panic when the loud synth with the rising note appears before the solo. It actually still gives me chills although I relish it now. The whole song has this light-dark theme, where the verses are very eerie and unsettling (musically), which fits with the lyrics, but the chorus is so upbeat and hopeful. What a song
back in 2010 I backpacked through Syria before it all went to shit. I had this song on my iPod and listened to it over and over and over. Now years later it will always remind me of that incredible time.
Back to the 80's, BBC had this radio show on English lessons "Catch the Words", and when they featured this AMAZING song I always thought they were a duo singing to each other!
I was driving today and this came on the radio and the nostalgia was just unreal. It took me back… I have heard this song so many times, but I’ve never actually listened to the words until tonight. I parked my car and listen to it again. I can relate to this so much. Read, it does resonate with me
My friends and I ended up backstage with Nik and The Krew in 1984, Edinburgh Playhouse, courtesy of my artwork and a kind security guard - none of us have forgotten it and we’re all 50 this year. This song means so much to me!! ❤️❤️
Y a pas à dire, les années 80. , c était le top , pleins de bons morceaux musicaux. On baisaient sans capotes , la vie était moins chère, y avait le franc, bref , si je pouvais revenir à cette époque ❤😢😢😢
Fewer and fewer of us have known and grown up in these beautiful 80s. I am happy to be still here to tell my son about it! "Wouldn't it be good if we could live without a care ?"
We will always keep the 80s music alive and in our hearts. We always lift our spirits when we put 80s music on. Thanks Nick Kershaw for being such a big part of our memories.
It depresses me when the young people of today don't realize what decent music is!! Music will never be the same EVER again. This music, particularly the eighties, was inspiring and uplifting. Yes they still had music about drugs and other absurd things. But oh boy the music was so much better. Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Adele and Nicki Minaj just don't speak to me. However this music will always speak a message. It has a meaning. A purpose!
@Real?Girl: you gotta look harder there's lotsa good music still but not much of it reaches us through mass media. But having said that tracks such as this classic hit deeper if it's part of your life , especially your teens or twenties. Taste is a funny thing - mine is actually impeccable ! 😂✌️🏼😎 🐂💨💨💨💨💨💨💨
34 years from now people will still be seeking this song out and listening to it. The same will not be said for Justin Bieber. His “music” will be long forgotten.
I’d say a BIG NO. Do people nowadays listen to 50s or 60s music? Nope. Great songs like this would be forgotten in future. So would Justin bieber , billie eliish and the rest of that shit. And some new trash would take over. Did we expect such poor music to replace what we had in the 80s? Never. Same thing would happen. But i’m happy that i’ve listened to quality music. Let the rest listen to the trash.

You've never heard of the most underrated songwriter in history. Nobody has.
I i thought that he was very popular in the 80's ?
They dont make music like this nowadays💯
It's about shaggin' that's why...this stuff was the other romance Picasso

It will be the 80s in 62 years
I met Nik on Saturday after a concert in the TLT theatre in Drogheda , Ireland . Spoke for a few minutes . What a lovely lovely man . A true icon
That's so cool, I met him in the 90s in Mark King (level42) dressing room, I agree, top bloke! I blurted out 'I loved you when I was at school' for some reason they had a good laugh over that, but Nik hadn't been around since I was at school(left in 86) so I just meant that. So cool so many80s bands are doing the rounds, I can pretend I'm a teenager again xx
Big into trad especially The bothy band
Fake. We didn´t speak.
I remember him as a bit tiny and always with those suspenders :-)
He was an old neighbour of mine, We was really good friends with him and Sherrie, I am still in touch with his first wife Sherrie, he even used to read bed time stories to my son
Impresionante, tengo 58 años y es un orgullo haber sido testigo de esta época dorada de la música.
I'm the same age as you and feel exactly the same way!
Yo tengo 57, disfruté mucho los 80 porque era joven, pero sigo disfrutando cada decada, de hecho sigo trabajando de DJ y disfrutando mucho. La vida sigue ❤
Im 53.. listening to this is taking me right back to the glorious 80s....such happy happy times snd memories. I'll always love Nick Kershaw ❤️
Nik Kershaw understands our problems.
Francisco Braga mine in particular, he went to the same school I did >:(
What school area etc
Francisco Braga true
Nik Kershaw. One of the best singer/songwriters the UK ever produced.
In the early 80's I was working in the studio of a merchandise company in London and one of the t-shirt logos I was asked to design was Nick Kershaw. Wish I'd kept the t-shirt! Great days!
I'm 70. This was one of the best songs made in the 1980s, IMHO.
I'm 61, and i love this N. Kershaw's gem to bits. The wonderful 80s music .. ❤🎉
True words, mate!
I barely lived in the eighties. I was an infant. And I also yearn for that time. Wouldn't it be good if I woke up in 1980?
❤❤❤
This was truly one of my favorite songs in the 80s. How good it was and still is!!!
One of the best choruses ever made.
tho the verses are fire
“Wouldn’t it be good .. if we were out of the covid 19 quarantine and transported back to the 80’s” ?? 😊
Stop whinging - Granddad in 1942 went to war and watched his best mate get shot to bits - me in 2020? Had to stop socializing with insufferable idiots.
I wish!! I was 16 when this song came out, still love it, life in the 80's was simple, fun, electric and colourful xx
@@Scarletpimpanel73 Still, it would be good to go back to the 80's 😉
Definitely
Yes
80s folks, because I didn't experience the 80s myself I can confirm that: The music you grew up with holds up incredibly well, the way you feel about it isn't just the nostalgia talking.
made my day reading this, youre great
What a thought! Thank you!
In popular music, the first half of the Eighties was much better than the second.
Still sounds amazing. Still sends shivers down my spine. We need more original melodies like this on the radio. Happy 2019, everyone!
Too right!
Lot of hate for this video 😭
"Wouldn't it be good, if we could live without a care"? Yep, it would be GREAT! So just keep listening to 80's music :)
Now music industry is occupied by black DJ's and shit.
@Evil Doctor PorkChop MAGA 2020😉
One of the greatest songs of the 1980's. This song brings back so many great memories of 1984.. Great friends, music and life in general.I would love to go back to my teenage years in that decade. Things were not perfect , but so much better than now. Nik Kershaw , you are brilliant.
The way the solo hits when you're expecting a regular chorus is terrific
The days of a $10 concert. Seeing him live was my teenage dream come to life
I just love that lyric "I'm sick of fighting even though I know I should". This could not apply more to my life right now.
hopefully since your comment a year has passed and your still fighting, there is loads of us out there trying to make sense of each day that passes..
We all have a battle to fight sweetheart, don't ever be sick of fighting, the fact that your fighting says your strong, it's when you stop fighting it means you gave up, don't give up👊Take care 🙏x
i feel the same, but that is when i got to remember, Jesus is fighting for me. It's not about my strength its abut His
Always keep Fighting!! Your Stronger than you relise💪💜
I know what you mean.
Loved nik kershaw. Still do. I waited 43 yrs to get to see him live, and to own my 1st ever Nik t shirt and beanie.. my partner bought tickets for my 50th to see him at Tramshed this past October in Cardiff
80's MUSIC NEVER DIES !
best instrumental bit ever in the middle. epic !
Hell Yeah!... Glad I'm not the only one who loves it and comments on it.
David Thomas yeah of course. that was incredible and very nicely played 33 years ago :)
Agreed! 🤩❤
🤩🤩😍😍🥰🥰🥰🥰❤❤❤❤
As a child of 82.... these kinds of music from this decade will never be matched 👍💪🇦🇺
I’m a 90’s kid and i love the Down Low rmx version to
Good singer yes
The visual effects in the video are like poetry.
When he walks near mirror im still shocked they managed to do this.
Love it.
Got ya , sis. Most artist today slur, drag the notes, breathy voices. This almost borders on rap in its rhythm. Hypnotic.
one of the greatest pop tracks ever done. impressed me when I was kid and does it again and again. especially the sax solo is brilliant
Sax? 🤣
@@mlh4711 sorry you are late
It was a guitar solo first, interestingly. The producer had the idea to double it with a horn section. Worked well.
It's actually a horn section layered with an electric guitar
Sax????Methinks guitar.
I'm now 51 and grew up with this track. To this very day - 3:30 still gives me goosebumps.
My brother is 51, I'm 61. We both are mesmerised by the 80s music. Nothing else comes closer, nothin' ! Today, we are still listening to the 80s. Greetings & love from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia 🇲🇾 ❤️

Lyrics
I got it bad
You don't know how bad I got it
You got it easy
You don't know when you've got it good
It's getting harder
Just keeping life and soul together
I'm sick of fighting
Even though I know I should
The cold is biting
Through each and every nerve and fibre
My broken spirit is frozen to the core
I don't want to be here no more
Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes
Even if it was for just one day?
Wouldn't it be good if we could wish ourselves away?
Wouldn't it be good to be on your side?
The grass is always greener over there
Wouldn't it be good if we could live without a care?
You must be joking
You don't know a thing about it
You've got no problem
I'd stay right there if I were you
I got it harder
You couldn't dream how hard I got it
Stay out of my shoes
If you know what's good for you
The heat is stifling
Burning me up from the inside
The sweat is coming through each and every pore
I don't want to be here no more
I don't want to be here no more
I don't want to be here no more
Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes
Even if it was for just one day?
Wouldn't it be good if we could wish ourselves away?
Wouldn't it be good to be on your side?
The grass is always greener over there
Wouldn't it be good if we could live without a care?
I got it bad
You don't know how bad I got it
You got it easy
You don't know when you've got it good
It's getting harder
Just keeping life and soul together
I'm sick of fighting
Even though I know I should
Thanks for sharing the lyrics.

God bless you Nik Kershaw. What a great song. I miss the ‘80’s so much.
A song that talks about how we think the grass is greener and that other people have it better than you
What a brilliant song. What a great decade.
Damn man , many people are married then they divorcing after few years after marriage
Nice for u and ur wife for stayin still
Join the Rolling Stones
Mercifully they don't
The instrumental is epic
You don’t get a lot of Instrumentals in modern music sadly
I'd be honored if some fans of 80s classics would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of AGAINST ALL ODDS by Phil Collins, PRAYING FOR TIME by George Michael, and EYE OF THE TIGER by Survivor on my YT channel in tribute to the era of legendary power ballads. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks & peace.
it's fantastic, so enjoyable.
this was his best song in my opinion.
@@willritter4076 Me, i would like to hear your performances. I love the songs you mentioned and of course 80s power ballads.

Nik Kershaw is a singer of my life ...i remember i was 3 years old when i heard first time his songs and i can listen it every day. I love his music and this deep sad complicated something in his lyrics . You find insise space for your depression, power and phantasy❤😢
I was 12 when this came out, just about to hit my teens! Nik was the hottest thing back then! Still is now! There was no internet back then just tape decks, countdown, and MTV!! I'd stay up late just to watch the top 10 and get a glimpse of Nik! I was crazy about him!! I'd write every lyric down on paper and practice every word! I still know every song he wrote!! Best days !! 💕😄🙏
Hahaha and I was 3 years old or almost 3 years old. 😉. I love this song I just keep listening to it.
This is PURE 80's LOVE!!!
The video and the song were ahead of their time. How can you forget this song.
4:30 "I got it bad, you don't know how bad I got it", man I felt that!

3:20 being most replayed, such a human natural reaction... amazing.
Such an underrated song writer..Nik is brilliant!
The skills required to produce this type of music is almost unfathomable.. especially the guitars.. great tune
Saw him perform this at Chilfest last week - sounds as good now as it did in the 80's. He is still a great singer and performer - thumbs up Nik!
Great video. It reminds me the film "The Man in the White Suit" (1951)
Long live the 80s.Great song great era.

I agree. The intro does it for me. So good😍
I feel like a movie of a long journey is ending..whenever I listen to this song...a movie of romantic teenage love, youth and adventure! This is one of my favorite songs.
80's music is without doubt the best, could listen to the likes of Nik, Howard Jones, Level 42, UB40 all day every day!
What a song
Nik Kershaw and his then first wife had a son with Downs Syndrome and this song is born out of feelings over his sons condition.
This was my favourite song in 1984 at the age of 16 and still is today at 53!!
My favourite song of 1984 , aged 18, ( that year). I agree , great song.
One of those songs that sound kind of simple, yet have a myriad of brilliant things happening ..
This was very common for the eighties
back in 2010 I backpacked through Syria before it all went to shit. I had this song on my iPod and listened to it over and over and over. Now years later it will always remind me of that incredible time.
Indeed I am from Syria, this song matches Syria colors in the night and countries that belongs back to the Soviet union. Armenia, Georgia,,,,,
Back to the 80's, BBC had this radio show on English lessons "Catch the Words", and when they featured this AMAZING song I always thought they were a duo singing to each other!
This is so 80's - the music, hair, clothes, atmosphere. Great music decade to grow up in, continuous stream of brilliant hits.

A purpose!
RealGirl17 It's the only music I listen too. These people could actually sing .
@Real?Girl: you gotta look harder there's lotsa good music still but not much of it reaches us through mass media. But having said that tracks such as this classic hit deeper if it's part of your life , especially your teens or twenties. Taste is a funny thing - mine is actually impeccable ! 😂✌️🏼😎
