Thats a huge gap by the chimney!
You are a rocking roofer, making roofing great again. You are nothing but a professional craftsmanship keep up the good work bro!!
Super neat and tidy with the ice and water around the chimney. I don't think I've ever seen that done that neatly. I'm curious to see how you do the back of the chimney, I've always made one continuous backpan.
I appreciate your thoroughness when doing a job! Your job will last the homeowner a long time and You are giving the gift of peace of mind instead of worrying about a leaking roof!
Thank God for this video I was looking for someone explain why they cut through the brick instead of just mortar which everyone in these roofing comments on other videos say lol I never stepped my counter flashing in the mortar because it never stays in and can cause even more problems day one lol these guy kept saying you shouldn’t cut the brick… that’s the only way to do it and it’s called reglet counter flashing and most manufacturers recommend this way anyway. Jeez thanks for a good video and sweet counter flashing job man
Jeez just standing on the ice.. how high up on the chimney did you go with the ice?
I respect a guy that does what i do every day while paying attention to doing quality work. Thanks for that
For neophytes could you describe the materials sometimes? If we have a little home project, or we want to know what our roofer is recommending-- we would not go to the store and ask for some "metal" for example. What would the names of these materials be? Composition, finish, and thickness, when applicable? Optional materials? Copper or lead is obvious, but not sure what you are using.
Roof king
Just a little tip ,next time when you cutting put the blower 'ON ' against the chemeney so the dust wont be on your face :) 👍🏾
Why did you cut the bricks so deep? I think you only need 1/2" to 1" depth. Thanks for sharing!!
I didn't cut it deep it's only 3/4 inch Max
12:48 show off! 😂 I appreciate the pacing of your video. Very instructive without a lot of wasted commentary.
Good man, punch out the work and go get your daughter.
Brain, love your show but please put on a mask as well when cutting masonry... you don't want that dust get into your lungs. Cheer!
respect for your profession... I can barely watch seeing the ground below.
The bricks your cutting into will spall in 5-10 years and start leaking. The masonry units expand and contract independent from each other. You preventing them from moving when you cut through the brick like this. This is way a masonry counter flashing is to be installed for each course of shingles. Stay in the bed joints and mortar it in properly. This allows for independent movement as thermodynamic conditions change.
If the bricks move that much, the flashing will be the least of your worries... plus, the mortar would be cracked and need re-pointed anyway. I haven't yet watched video 4 but hopefully he cut the step into the mortar joints then installed the reglet counter flashing. I think it's dealer's choice as to which is more durable/reliable... but both are vastly superior to surface caulking "method". The next most important factor is how well it's sealed (both material and workmanship).
Tie yourself off. No use in taking a chance.
thanks for the videos, nice work. I like the single piece of counter flashing versus stepped. Is there any advantage of one over the other? or is just personal preference?
some people like the look of stair-stepped. I think that's more to go wrong and more work than necessary. I would say it's really personal preference.
I like to prime the deck for the ice-and-water…adheres better. Even just some epdm primer. I’ll put metal tape at the corners of the I&W and over the top of it, on the chimney too.
You wanna take a roller to that I&W as well.
Are you considered a roofer or chimney guy?
I cannot watch you lol so close to the edge
Question...do you need roof felt on top of the ice and water?
No
No all wrong
That kind of statement Requires an explanation! "Sour grapes"
@Victor Contreras -- LOL ..... I don't think so.
When cutting the chimney, please wear a dust mask. You don't want to be breathing even a small amount of that dust.
I wave the dust into my mouth while inhaling
Do you recommend putting ice and water underneath the drip edge or over? On a home with gutters on 90% of roof edges, do you recommend not using drip edge and instead use a gutter apron? I’ve heard some people use both, drip edge and then gutter apron over the top. What do you think?
3:48 OMG you almost cut your finger.
M18 blower and angle grinder!
The only thing we do different is turn the ice and water so that the big sticky overlap part is on the roof instead of the chimney. I figure that there isn't s problem with water getting up behind the counter flash but it might travel out from the chimney.
Ya insurance companies need work too.
I wonder what is a reasonable price for job like this. I'll get a quote for same job. I just got a leak around the chimney.
Looking very good so far 👍👍👍👍👍
You moving the camera to much, dizziness..
Otherwise nice job
Look'in great!!!
You should make a video framing in a chimney
Screw a 2 by 4 down an run the skill saw up the roof on the 2 by 4
Or rip a board to whatever height you need an follow it with the skill saw. .straight cut bruh. Can't go wrong
Easy money
I noticed that they was any waterproof underlayment under the shingles??
You work in California
Good work Man.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nice job man, thanks for part 5. Came together nice.
The counter flashing is bent and going to go into a cut in the brick. Once it's installed it will be sealed. Are you saying it's going to leak because it's not stare stepped into the mortar joints?
Is it overkill to put ice and water shield over the entire roof?
I would say it depends on where you in the world as far as climate and the pitch of roof?
Yes
That's dangerous . With no guard on the angle grinder . Y not just get a small blade the 4 1/2 inch one then you can use the guard . Instead of fitting a 5 inch blade with out the guard . As angle grinders can get stuck and jump
I’ve doing it all my life I can’t stand people like you. It’s called skill
How much does a repair like this cost ? Thx u good work as always
500. Min
@@bobv8219 over that same repair cost $1,500-$2,500
@@bobv8219 boy you’re crazy . $500 wouldn’t even cover for the materials needed.
Well wherever he’s from 500$ might be good just depends the state and region
@@oscarguevara5089 that's a $500 job during a new roof install, not repair. This is a whole day job.
