Very catchy tune. Fun arrangement. Circular melody/lyrics. Reminds me of Red Rubber Ball.
These songs were kind of out of the old school style if professional song writers who went to a studio (the Brill Building comes to mind) every day and slogged along until they came up with a hit. People like Paul Simon, Neil Diamond, Carol King, Bobby Boyce and Tommy Hart, Les Reed and Barry Mason, Holland Dozier Holland, and Tony Romeo, to name some favorites.
I really admire those pop-songwriters. I like the “singer-songwriters” too, that took over in the 70s, with all their heart-felt angst and life of observations, but nothing beats a catch tune, steady beat, and a good hook.

The first week of March, 1971, I was on my R&R in Sydney, Australia. I saw them in either the Cheetah Lounge or Checkers Club, I cannot remember which. I was in both places. I liked Vanity Fair and their music. Hearing them on UA-cam brings back some of those memories. The expression we had was "trippin' on livin' " cause I knew when I got back to Vietnam, I would start processing to go home. I MADE IT

Thank you. This song was so great to me back when I was 14. It was nearly deleted from my mental rolodex but this video has regenerated the synaptic connection and upgrading that old pathway to my hippocampus where all the good stuff is archived. Sigh... it was so long ago.

TOTP performers almost always lip synced, until very late in the show's run when they had lower ratings and more competition.

Great US-Boston Top 20 hit in Nov 1969. I never noticed before but the opening is somehow
reminiscent of Sonny Bono Gypsy Songs like Little Man and Bang Bang though it does veer
away from that as the song progresses. The lead singer sounds as good live as studio.
IMHO this is a much better record than Hitchin a Ride which I believe did better chart-wise,
Definitely a mood record. Love it. Jack Fitpatrick

    De manhã cedo
    Tarifa de vaidade
    A noite é a hora do dia
Eu posso ver a diversão no salgueiro-chorão
    Eu posso ver o sol
Você está no seu caminho e você virá
    Casa, casa comigo
    Early In The Morning
    Vanity Fare
Evening is the time of day
I find nothing much to see
Don't know what to do, but I come to
When it's early in the morning
Over by the window day is dawning
    When I feel the air
I feel that life is very good to me, you know
In the sun, there is so much yellow
something in the early morning meadow
Tells me that today you're on your way
And you'll be coming home, home to me
Night time isn't clear to me
I find nothing near to me
Don't know what to do but I come to
When it's early in the morning
Very, very early without warning I came
    Feel a newly born vibration
    Sneaking up on me again
There's a song bird on my pillow
I can see the fun in weeping willow
    I can see the sun
You're on your way and you'll be coming
    Home, home with me

Takes me back to a time of not needing anything. There was nothing to need except love and peace. We just came through some very hard times in the USA and we were determined to never allow anything like that ever happen again. Now it's like a battle field for our youth.
