I'm sitting there with my youngest daughter (25 years old) and we're watching that "Get Back" documentary... the episode where Paul McCartney was writing the song "The Long And Winding Road" in the studio with the cameras rolling. He starts off with the first verse written, and he's starting to flesh out the second verse singing "The wild and windy night...something something, something something..." By the end of that episode he's got the song fully done and we're both floored. I look over and she's actually crying. She says "I can't believe I'm sitting here literally watching him create this beautiful masterpiece." The man is a genius.
He was in Jamaica and dinner with Dustin Hoffman who said he didn't believe Paul could write a song about anything, and they pulled out a magazine which had an article about Picasso's death and last words, and Paul sat there with a guitar and wrote "Picasso's Last Words" (from Band on the Run) right in front of him. Dustin Hoffman was blown away and said to his wife "look he's doing it right in front of us!"
I've always loved this song, and finding out McCartney wrote it made the story almost legendary. The fact it was a hit goes to show that not all music critics are right.
We could tell it was a McCartney song. That Peter was his girlfriends brother was a give away. Then, later, we found it indeed was. My brother was a big fan of credits. He knew every song writer, movie director and so forth

I love Paul. I love the Beatles, together, solo, and in any variation. I love Peter and Gordon, and World Without Love was a radio hit. I adored it. It was one of the first singled I got. I’ll be 70 on the last day of May, and I only learned that Paul wrote this song a few years ago. I was surprised that it took so long post the start of the internet for this info to reach me. Thanks, Guitar Trooper for posting this.
Cool story you shared, thank you. I used to go to Peter Asher’s Office in Beverly Hills/West Hollywood, back when I was a young lad delivering packages. I would see Mr Asher quite often.
Guitar Trooper has some of the very best content about my generation’s music on UA-cam and possibly in the entire world. I’m astounded when any of my musician friends have never heard of him. GT is the ultimate “Deep Dive” into American music history.
Thanks for sharing this interesting info on Paul McCartney. One of my High school friends met Paul and I got to meet, Sean Lennon in December 2007 in Alexandria, Va. where he was performing at a saloon/nightclub! Just plain cool!
I loved the song, World Without Love. I was 4 when it came out, but I often listened to it on the local radio stations when we in the car growing up. My Mom would listen to the popular radio stations as she drove us to school- until we all transferred to public school.
I hit send too soon! Continued ....... I was born in 1954, so I was age 8 when The Beatles came around. I liked Elvis Presley, Liitle Richard, and The Shadows, but when I first heard The Beatles, well, it was like listening to music from another world. So, being a child of the '60s, I just wanted to say that your particular channel resonates deeply with me. My name is Rob, and I'm a London-based musician, poet, writer, and actor.
I knew Paul wrote this, but thanks for filling in a lot of the history around their relationship. Long before I knew Paul wrote it, I loved Peter & Gordon's "World Without Love".
Sir Paul is an absolute treasure. I am so blessed that I have been able to grow up from a young boy listening to him as a Beatle and then his solo career. The more I learn about him the more amazed I am. Greater than Leonardo Da Vinci?
Another outstanding mini-doc! The Vic Flick connection to the song and the Beatles themselves blew me away! My favorite Paul-penned song for Peter and Gordon is "I Don't Want To See You Again", but that is just the opinion of this old guy. 😊
I really enjoyed this piece! I knew McCartney wrote World Without Love, but hearing his teenage version of it made me very happy. Thank you again XXOO Judy PS I was eight years old and screaming, Beatlemania was not manufactured., it was REAL !
Thank you for the wonderful piece you did on this song and it’s origin. Well written and well spoken- kept my interest all the way till the end. God bless you. 👍🙏
Chad and Gordon have passed. That’s why Peter and Jeremy are touring together. They carry on the heritage of both duos. What a fantastic show they put on… and the stories, Wow!!
Paul actually added as a fan on one of our band's sites years ago. We corresponded briefly but I never had the pleasure of meeting him... My loss, definitely.
You cant deny that Paul was one of the greatest musicians of the 60s and 70s. I'm sooo happy that I was alive at this time to hear his music. Thanks Paul.
Glad you liked it! And, let me assure you, finding true trivia on these guys is tough. I always get peppered by chatter from hard core fans that know the stuff. My hope is that I can deliver it in a way that isn’t just dry facts, because dry facts are a lot easier to find!! That is why I endeavor to structure my videos as stories with a beginning, middle, and end. I can’t always do it, though. Then it’s not as interesting.

Great to hear the story behind the success of the song and the singers. I was 15 in 1964 and loved all the British groups. Beatles are the top of the pyramid.
Yet again, the Trooper knocks it out of the park (baseball, yes? I'm British so my exuberances would be cricket-related and make no sense!). You've got this whole spinning the narrative out thing up to mastery lever, Sir Trooper. Six minutes on the edge of my seat this time ... the mounting tension and building excitement ... and it turns out to be a song we all know but about which we have hitherto known next to nothing! Actually, thinking about it, maybe "knocked it for six" would be an understatement anyway. I'll keep the baseball reference. ;) Thank you, Trooper.
Hey David! Thanks for the great comment and kind words!! And - I might know more British slang than you think. My youth, Camp Urland, Woodville, TX Summer Camp, Peter & Gordon, " A World Without Love" how fabulous a story about a song I truly loved. That summer a local church in Woodville, invited the staff to a social and we all went. That song was playing and i remember with my extremely shy self to interact with a couple of the girls there. A Great Memory for my 15 year old self. Thanks for the full background on this wonderful 60's era song.
Thank you. I didn’t realize that Peter went on to do all of those things. You learn something new every day. I love all of Paul’s songs, including the ones that Peter and Gordon recorded. Paul is the most amazing person and musician!
I ask my mum for the record for my 13th birthday back in Liverpool. Played it 5 times at my Birthday celebration at home. Love the song so much and great to hear it's history, thanks.😊
Vic flick was a renowned session guitarist in England. Play the James Bond theme and many others. He was on Pawn Stars and sold that guitar. He had a list that showed what songs he used it on. I believe that he got 50k for it
This information is absolutely fascinating. Who knew? What a thrill to harken back to the old tunes and get the behind-the-scenes story that no one knew. Keep up the good work!
McCartney's demo of "World Without Love" shows a different feel to the song. Once the song was in the hands of Peter & Gordon and their producer it was a vast improvement to the song. Definitely not a song for the Beatles. Lennon and Harrison thought the line "Please lock me away" was a joke. Imagine their amazement when the song became a number one song in many countries.
I used to hear A World Without Love on the AM dial when it first came out but I never heard of the song Woman. I looked for it on UA-cam and I played it for about 15 seconds. It's lacking. Now I know why I never heard of it. I probably changed the station when it came on.
I'm 75, and remember all of these songs. Love 'em ALL. But you never hear things from behind the scenes like this. It's cool stuff. Thanks for the info.
I dunno what to think. Both Macaa and Lennon were cranking out so many songs that could afford to flip several to other performers and never miss them.
great back story! thank you from the minute I started watching I knew what the song was! born in 1955, I was always a keen pop historian.... I have only just recently really appreciating Paul McCartney's immense song writing talents

I'm an itinerant musician and language teacher (FunSongs) and have just released an album entitled the Music of Travel. same here 70now can't get any better than the beatles

I loved the song, World Without Love. I was 4 when it came out, but I often listened to it on the local radio stations when we in the car growing up. My Mom would listen to the popular radio stations as she drove us to school- until we all transferred to public school.
Thanks for the view and the comment!
And Thanks again for watching and the comment!

Congrats, Gordon!! And thanks for the view!!
Sir Paul is an absolute treasure. I am so blessed that I have been able to grow up from a young boy listening to him as a Beatle and then his solo career. The more I learn about him the more amazed I am. Greater than Leonardo Da Vinci?
I don’t think he ever approached helicopter design. LOL
Another outstanding mini-doc! The Vic Flick connection to the song and the Beatles themselves blew me away! My favorite Paul-penned song for Peter and Gordon is "I Don't Want To See You Again", but that is just the opinion of this old guy. 😊
Hey, Thanks for watching!! Great to see you again!!
I agree guarddave. One of the best Paul penned.
I really enjoyed this piece! I knew McCartney wrote World Without Love, but hearing his teenage version of it made me very happy. Thank you again XXOO Judy PS I was eight years old and screaming, Beatlemania was not manufactured., it was REAL !

I had the privilege to see Peter and Jeremy in concert in No. Cal a few months ago. What a show!!!
It was Peter & Gordon...Jeremy was with Chad a diff duo !
@@Ina-Lori-tm2zh
Heh heh...thanks for pointing that out!
Chad and Gordon have passed. That’s why Peter and Jeremy are touring together. They carry on the heritage of both duos. What a fantastic show they put on… and the stories, Wow!!
John would always laugh out loud when Paul sang "Please, lock me away..."
Yeah. John had zero support for the song.
when Peter and Gordon sang the song...
Paul is awesome writer-singer-guitar player...one in a million 🌟
Yeah well in these years John also laughed at the disabled, ridiculed homosexuals and beat his wife and kid.
Paul actually added as a fan on one of our band's sites years ago. We corresponded briefly but I never had the pleasure of meeting him... My loss, definitely.
Loved the history lesson on things in my era I never knew, Thanks

Great video! At last, someone produces a Beatles story that hasn't been done a hundred times!

I'll keep the baseball reference. ;)
Thank you, Trooper.

Me, too
My youth, Camp Urland, Woodville, TX Summer Camp, Peter & Gordon, " A World Without Love" how fabulous a story about a song I truly loved. That summer a local church in Woodville, invited the staff to a social and we all went. That song was playing and i remember with my extremely shy self to interact with a couple of the girls there. A Great Memory for my 15 year old self.

Vic flick was a renowned session guitarist in England. Play the James Bond theme and many others. He was on Pawn Stars and sold that guitar. He had a list that showed what songs he used it on. I believe that he got 50k for it
I had stop to make the James Bond reference before the narrator mentioned it😊

McCartney's demo of "World Without Love" shows a different feel to the song. Once the song was in the hands of Peter & Gordon and their producer it was a vast improvement to the song. Definitely not a song for the Beatles. Lennon and Harrison thought the line "Please lock me away" was a joke. Imagine their amazement when the song became a number one song in many countries.
No, when Paul performs a song it has a completely different feel to it, outworldly
It’s a wild business alright.

Wow ! I do think that the Beatles should have produced both A World Without Love and Woman. This is 2 songs 🎵 that goes well with them 👌.
I dunno what to think. Both Macaa and Lennon were cranking out so many songs that could afford to flip several to other performers and never miss them.
