+Brandon Cox That is really cool to hear; especially about the confidence part. I lacked so much confidence as a person in general, never mind confidence as a detailer most of my life. Part of the pay off for me in doing these videos is knowing that a guy like yourself can actually walk away with info, and apply it into your world and make you better in some form, or at some level.
My personal motto is; "You live as long as you learn."
And gosh, i learn so much from you. As a noob in the science of detailing, these videos are such a good place for me to start. Not only because you explain how to do it, but also why. I learn best by understanding why.

I went to a funeral and came out of the service and someone had scuffed up my right rear quarter panel on my Silverado SS. Of course they didn't stick around or leave a note so since I'm not amongst the wealthy masses, I simply can't afford to have the body shop guys fix it! Thank you for the great detailed info!! Much appreciated!!

Yes I have considered it many times. Perhaps in the future, but right now I am focusing on updating my websites and producing online tutorials. I have a podcast I am also developing. As you can see; I have many irons in the fire and really have to pick my battles carefully. In the meantime, business has been through the roof so it is hard enough just to keep up with that.

I just got lasik 3 months ago. One of the best decision of my life. I was -5.0 in both eyes, to 20/15 on both. Scary stuff, but worth the risk. Good look in your recovery.

this is the second video I have seen that you have mentioned being out of breath.i have noticed with myself that I have sinuses starting to clog the next day without a mask. I used the green mask one day and no problem next day. I started to pay close attention and when working and I noticed small particles the size of dust coming from the foam pads and dried polish. I now use the mask and keep a spray bottle handy if the pad is feeling a little dry. the water does not seem to hurt the outcome of the job.

I bought a used Miata with the deep mica green paint, pretty good looking, but after watching hours of your videos, and some others, buying some equipment and spending some time fussing on the car, the paint looks REAL GOOD. Too nice to drive, but I'll get past that? Thanks for teaching and explaining your craft and art. Just watching a skilled person practice their work is a pleasure itself.

I viewed this hoping to repair some scratches on our RV that has auto paint finish. I didn't learn a thing other than he charges a 150 bucks an hour and loves to talk. I finally had to turn it off and look elsewhere for help after he kept repeating himself. Some of us don't have time to hear you brag about your magic and want to know a few tricks.

Amazing work, I did paint touch up earlier today decided to wets sand with a 400 before switching to a 2k/3k respectively, but was left with some marks from the 400. Any advice on how to get the 400 scratching out?

+hi bish I do the same; turn the volume way up so I can use the head and still listen. Or....or....you can simply walk away and take the chance of missing that one "gem" that will make your world a little easier.
My question is this.If you have a deep scratch that has gone through to the primer do you recommend a wet sand then a high ebbrasive compound.Then the finishing compound.I have a flex rotary but never used it on deep scratches.

I buy acetone in uk. Full strength for fibreglass resin clean up (i make jetski hulls).
It comes in plastic containers. It doesnt degrade plastic containers.
But it does dammage paint.
I have a question regarding wet sanding: when should one use it? Looking on UA-cam I seen some people wet sand but also seen other people dry sanding.

Literally i feel like I am in class every time I watch one of your videos. I still have so many questions and yes I know you mentioned in other videos when you answer one question it leads to another so sorry about that LOL. But there is one question I'm hoping you can help me out with and I don't know if you made a video about this already I have seen a good number of them but not all, but my question is I am trying to start in NY and now its pretty hot in the summer so how can I wash a car in the sunlight without leaving water marks and as a second part of the question how would I was in direct sunlight?

great results and tips. maybe refrain from extra commentary, stereotypes, so-called experts, your bicep, your eyes, keep on point by cutting out the excess and then I can watch more of your videos to gain the ideas and techniques. Each of your versions has a couple of extra tips that the others may not have touched on and those are what I'm after. Maybe figure out how to put together a list of supplies, tools, pads, to keep around my garage to tackle most of the minor little scratches and parking lot dings. Great work, great videos. excellent results.
I think you did a wonderful job. With all that sanding is there a way to put back the clear coat or to just strengthen it? I too have some scratches on my car, very minor. I hate taking any clear coat off because I feel it is there to protect the paint.

Hi Darren, thank for you insights and sharing your skill sets. I am not sure I understand how to apply the touch-up paint. Have you covered that process in other videos? I have searched your UA-cam site, but can't find application of touch-up paint.I have a black Prius, with a few scratches, and have used your techniques. The scratches were more transfers than scratches. But, I do have some chips on the door edge, like the BMW you just worked on, that was a grate teaching moment, thank you again.
+Deadwood Pike I have not done a video on actually using touch-up paint. There are many techniques you can use and it is a case by case judgement call. I am still trying to cover more of the basics.
50 minute video, 2minutes of actual removal demo and 48 minutes of literally, literally babble. OMG! THIS IS AN HOUR I'LL NEVER GET BACK.
You can buy a dent removing tool that will pop out car park dents to a certain degree for very little money comes as a kit which would also be a good investment
33 minutes before u touched the paint. Wow, that hurt.
Great video and no disagreements. I would love your comments on this: I would have probably wet-sanded just the area of the scratches (by hand) and then buffed out the smaller area with a DA (I don't even use an orbital). I would have probably used less touch-up paint but that would mean more of some of the deeper scratches would still show. What do you think? (If I had access to the car after about a week, I might wet-sand the touch-up paint again and re-polished but that would push the cost up for sure and is usually not an option). But based on the damage that you corrected, I know my results would be less that what you achieved ESPECIALLY considering you were working on a black car and the depth of some of the scratches. You did a great job on that car!
+David Roddick There are so many more things I could have done if the budget was a bottomless pit. But like I said, I was trying to save her butt and do it within a budget that she could tolerate. That "winning balance" for both parties involved. And yes, it actually came out better than I even anticipated.

Hey Darren! Great video! You mentioned that "there is plenty of detailers in your area that can do what I do". Can you share a tip or two on how to track down those detailers? On you channel I can easily see before/after + thinking process behind what you do. From your videos I can say that you know what you are doing, you care about your work, and you always looking for ways to improve. How can I find someone like you who can do great job on my car(s)? I don't trust internet reviews (yelp, google) too much because people have different expectations about what is "good detailing", and my expectations are usually reasonably high. I know that good detailing ain't cheap, but I also don't want to spend $200+ on a mediocre work done by someone who have limited knowledge or doesn't care much about his/her work. Thanks, any tips would be appreciated! I live in Bay Area, California.
+Ivan Kuskov Great question by the way. I am thinking of a great answer based on what I would do. Likely I would start with the reviews, then I would call these people and start asking questions over the phone. You sound particularly sharp as a person. So my guess is that when you start asking specific questions, you will get a feel from the person as to whether they are capable, not trying to over-sell you, and seem honest. If you wanted to go the extra mile at that point, ask the person if you can come by and see the finished results and what it cost to produce those results. Of course to be fair to the detailer, you would need to see the beginning, in order to fully judge the finished work.
thanks again darren very helpful, i did one of these repairs last week but instead of touch up paint i used spray paint that i was able to work with after wet sanding and polishing worked great but wanted to get your thoughts on it use of spray paint for cars, thanks.
+Navid Kamali Like any where in life, there are usually multiple/different roads home. I have used spray paint also and it just requires different ways to finesse the moment to achieve the desired results. Some situations would be better served with one or the other.
Looks great, thanks for posting the video, but I have questions. Did u wet sand and buff the touch up paint? Can touch up paint be wet sanded and buffed or will it get dull or pulled out? I'm just an amateur detailer here, so don't crucify me. I've yet to see a video of someone doing that, but that doesn't always mean it can't be done, or does it?

Why isn't air-brushing a 2k clear on deep scratches that don't go through the base coat a common repair technique?
Hey Darren I was wondering if you could do a video of fixing swirls using only products found at Harbor Freight, we sell a DA; 3 types of foam pads(cut polish finish) and meguiars 105&205 just don't use our microfiber towels(those I know suck). I would like to think the DA polisher I sell my customers is decent quality for a weekend warrior who just wants to brighten up his/her car. But I think in the hands of a pro the real review comes out, there are many reviews of it on YT but none that are from a pro detailer like you. They are mostly used car dealers.

Stoner's tarminator is a great solvent that'll work as well. Just a quick question Darren, not related to your video. Will your Rapid Remover remove road tar spots? Also i got some "dressing" on my new paver drive way that was done last year. Can i use the rapid remover to take the grease/dressing stains off my pavers? Thanks!

I wanted to ask you...if you're doing a correction and someone has their car washed before you get there to polish it, do you just do a detail spray wipedown before polishing or what? Isn't there dirt on the surface by the time you get there?
Also, do you wait until you're completely finished with an entire correction to wax, or do you wax/seal each panel immediately after polishing? Thanks!

Bryan Víquez the biggest difference is the paint and clearcoat to cars are usually not quite as durable so if you use a dual action polisher instead of a rotary,the DA will go slower but will reduce the heat so you won't burn the paint near as fast, that's the main thing to keep in mind I think,good luck!

+Carlos Neria I think this is literally the one area of detailing to this day I have not found the "perfect" solution to. I have been able to clean them with very good results using my Meguiar's super-degreaser and either a pressure washer (this requires a lot of strategy based on the seat belts being inside the car and are not something you can take out of the car, clean, and then put back.) or the steamer I have and use (VX5000). I have tried endless chemicals and techniques and still struggle to find my "perfect" fix to this annoying problem.
