    I've been detailing for over 30 years and just starting using Menzerna 400.
    I only use it in my shop on thrashed clears as it cuts very well but does leave hazing, not a big issue as I mostly perform two step corrections.
    My go to combo is the Meguiar's Microfiber Correction System.
    I'm in the with the combo.

    Nice job.
    In socal it may not work, but in northern Illinois, positioning a car to face east or west helps get one side into shade, and ad much sd 20 degrees F cooler. We have to work in the PM to get reasonable outdoor temps for much of the year, and the sun hitting at an increasing angle as the air temp rises to a peak at 4pm helps even out the body temps.

    I just stumbled on your channel. Great content. I am not a detailer by trade but I am super ocd about my own cars. I have spent 30 years learning proper detailing and polishing techniques well before there was a You Tube to go to. I love Menzrena products too. The Fg400, SF4000 and Sf4500 are my go to products. I rarely ever have to use the Fg400 to be honest, I have used it when I bought my kids used cars but honestly with proper washing techniques the SF 4000 now called 3500 is what I use most for a one step correction just to keep the paint jeweled. I follow with Menzerna's polymer sealant and then Collinite 845. My question to you since you do this daily and are a pro,what do like to use as a LSP? I am always looking to try new products especially if a pro tells me he know of a superior one. Thanks in advance

      @autofetishdetail  9 років тому +2

      william larue If I was doing a $1500-$2500 paint correction job(s) on a regular basis I would be using one. But I use common sense, logic, and industry experience to gauge what is safe and appropriate for the moment, the car, the age, the color, and the customers budget. It's more about me responding to the real world fo detailing at my level and my customer base. If I had the overhead of a shop and was dealing with a different clientele I would have to operate a bit differently.

    Hey darren i hope you're doing it great, excuse for my english i am from mexico
    I've been watching your videos and your website cause i want to get that level of perfection but i only can get rotary buffers, is it possible to get that kind of reflection on a paint job without a DA buffer?
    Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge

    • @ryanmartinage
      @ryanmartinage 9 років тому

      You can certainly get a great result using DA buffers but it will take much longer. By using the rotary with FG400, you can really just knock out the correctable defects quickly. This allows a lighter, much quicker pass with the DA to clean up any buffer marks and give a nice, final gloss. In a professional setting time is money! If possible, I'd recommend having a rotary for compounding when possible.

    • @autofetishdetail
      @autofetishdetail  9 років тому +1

      Juan Rivera Yes. At the beginning of my career all we had was rotary polishers and have used one ever since. But now I find myself using the DA more and more and use sand paper to do initial paint correction if needed. If I finish with 3000 grit, I can use the DA to remove the sanding marks where before I would finish with 1500 grit and use a rotary polisher to remove sanding marks.

      not needed but makes cleaning the pads faster and easier. theres brushes made for foam pads to knock the spent product out of the pores without damaging it. you can use a spray bottle with water while polishing to help keep the product fluid and get thrown out easier too

    Hello Darren, as a young business owner trying to get a foot in the mobile detailing business I am on a tight budget as you can imagine. I cannot afford a truck and trailer or a van dedicated solely to my business. I can however fit all of my materials into my everyday driver quite easily. My question is do you carry your own water source, and if so do you think it's acceptable to use a customer's water source until I can come up with my own?

    • @autofetishdetail
      @autofetishdetail  9 років тому +1

      Tyler Kurfees I use a customers water source 99% of the time as I don't carry a water tank/pressure washer myself. I keep it ultra simple and profitable these days. I have never had a customer have a problem with it.

    • @tylerkurfees4762
      @tylerkurfees4762 9 років тому

      Wonderful, thank you for the reply. I was overly eager to get started and thought i could deal with most vehicles with a waterless wash solution. And I probably could but what i did not take into account is the shocking (to me) lack of vehicle maintenance many people have, as well as humidity levels which hinder the drying time of the wax in the solution. I learned that the hard and slightly embarrassing way.

    • @autofetishdetail

    Haven't read all the comments, so maybe someone else already asked this, but why didn't you just pull car inside garage to polish? Also, if someone does polish inside garage on sunny day with garage door open, is there any risk that the lack of direct sunlight is going to make you not spot something when you polish? Thanks.

    • @autofetishdetail
      @autofetishdetail  9 років тому

      yusuihang Trade-off's. In the garage there is no wind current what so ever. There is also the dust and mess created within the customers garage. And in the direct sun I can see what the final product is going to look in the lighting the customer will be viewing his car most of the time.

    • @yusuihang
      @yusuihang 9 років тому

      Auto Fetish Detail Thanks. Actually, I've never done machine polish before, so didn't think about how much dust would result. I have Porter Cable 7420 polisher ready to go, and am watching your videos before I try my first attempt. Am I correct in thinking that the polish step (using Meguiar's 105/205) should not remove in much, if any, dust but the wax/sealant step would definitely result in dust? I'm thinking about polishing in garage, then moving car outside for inspection and seal/wax. Thanks again.

    • @autofetishdetail
      @autofetishdetail  9 років тому

      yusuihang Sounds like a good plan, but would highly consider switching to Menzerna as I believe they perform much better than the 105/205 of Megs that I used for years. See this link for more detailed info: www.best-auto-detailing-tips.com/polish-cars.html#polish-cars

    • @nirtime
      @nirtime 8 років тому +1

      You clay firstly to remove bonded contaminants. Stuff like paint fumes, tree sap, etc... The Alcohol and water could be done afterwards to clean the paint of any wax and grease so that you're working on a clean surface.

    • @davidpatterson6589
      @davidpatterson6589 7 років тому

      @nirtime is right. without the clay the contaminants can cause the pad to ride over them and chew through the pad faster if its foam or dislodge into the pad and can cause scratching.

      brianallen0826 I have so many pads I use and demo it is hard to keep up. I don't maintain huge opinions as far as pads go. I could likely make any "quality" pad do what I need so long as I have chosen the correct pad as far as a stiff cutting pad versus a soft finishing pad. From CSS pads, to micro-fiber pads, they represent certain trade-off's. With that said, I am not a fan of the blend/wool pads. I prefer 100% wool cutting pad over the wool/synthetic blend cutting pads.

      My wife keeps saying why do you need all those towels, what do you need all those pads for? Nagnagnag...lol, she sure doesn't mind the bank deposit though! Weird, when I ask, why do you need all those shoes, what are you going to do with all those purses...she doesn't think it's as funny as I do. I really enjoy your videos, it's nice to see someone who loves their work

      Auto Fetish Detail Hey Darren, have you tried the Menzerna PF2400 (medium cut compound)? Do you find it useful?
      I'm a beginner at paint polishing and I have a DA polisher.
      Should I follow a 3-step method to achieve the best result that me and the machine can produce, or go with your method of 2-step only (I only have foam pads, by the way)?

    So for a black car that isnt so bad with swirls, do you believe its safe to use the Mezernas as a one step? Sort of like a cut in polish?

    • @crystalclearautodetailing4292
      @crystalclearautodetailing4292 8 років тому

      +heyitschinoable I've personally never used mezernas, but i cut with 3m compound with mircofiber pads, and then i polish with rupes finshing pad with a HD Speed (LOVE this polish) on a rupes lhr21es. But those are my 2 cents for me it turns out AMAZING even on hard and soft paints. But once again i strongly recommend a 2 step if you want the best of the best results.

      +Crystal Clear Auto Detailing Yea ive since watched more videos and read more. Im going to go for a full prep wash. And as u stated a 2 step cut and polish with Meguiars m105 and M205. Thanks for the input.

      heyitschinoable also i HIGHLY recommend the hd polish or speed preferably speed, also use ANY compound with them but hd speed for me is the best polish and wax. while hd polish is just a straight polish and no wax.

    Hey darren been watching you for a bit now. Tell me honestly, a driveway jockey like myself, whats the risk in using a D A? Ive never used an actual buffer but have used a basic random orbital polisher. Just dont want to burn a corner or edge. Im critical of myself but i know that the random orbital is very limited. Thanks, your very knowledgeable. Jason, Peoria IL

    Very nice video again. Each time I watch Darren's video, I learn tip. Before, I used to put a lot of polish on the pad (put an X). Now I see, that it's useless. The result is wonderful with a reasonable amount of chemical.
