i’ve struggled with a drug addiction for many years. my mom sent me this song. she’s always been my biggest fan, my biggest supporter. sometimes i feel i don’t let her know how much i truly appreciate her. some of these lyrics cut very deep and are quite emotional, i’m FINALLY about 4 months sober.🎉
I think of my oldest daughter, Stephanie every time I hear this song.❤ She use to play it all the time in her room. ❤We prayed for her for years to come back into the fleece of Christ & he has answered our prayers 😅

well & thats rite or maybe to another planet if things start to get bad here with the environmental planetary issues & overpopulation--can we just take off & zoom off to another planet? or do we need to control things & adjust things on this planet b4 its too late.
This song got me through rehab and physical therapy after my car was hit by a delivery truck, crushed in half, spun 360 and both wheels broken off......the nurse told me "you realize you were almost killed, someone up there is watching out for you", then in the cab ride home the cab driver said "son, when was the last time you went to church"....Then when I was healing my broken hand with movement exercises this song comes on "I dare you to move, and pick yourself up from the floor"...Tears started streaming down my face....Jesus is real.....He showed me the narrow path in a dream I had......❤Please don't stop loving each other❤....
Time. Yes. I’m an age I still can’t write. I look in the mirror rarely but when I do I am surprised. It goes by fast… one Netflix movie after another! One hope-absent indulgence after another. One boldly honest and true choice after another. A life made out of which way we choose to lean.
This song is about a man at different stages of his life. It's a Christian theme of how we all stumble upon hard times in life, and about how God dares us to move and get back on our feet. It's about how there's a difference between who we are and who we should be. Jon Foreman, who is Switchfoot's lead singer and lyricist, tells us that it is these challenging moments that produce his best songs. Said Foreman: "When I'm happy, when I'm enjoying life, I'm home, I'm surfing, I'm spending time with my wife, my friends, and maybe we're playing cover tunes - we're playing Tom Petty or The Band, or we're covering Bob Dylan, and I'm not thinking about the pain. And then the moment I encounter something that feels difficult, I feel like that's when, for me, I turn to writing and thinking and maybe a song comes from that."
Switchfoot wasn't really a Christian band, at least not overtly. More like a secular band with subtle Christian undertones. One of the reasons why they had a lot of mainstream success.
When I first heard this song as a teenager I liked it, then I realized it was Christian rock. So I turned away of course, but now that I'm adult I keep hearing this song in my head and I'm proud that it's about redemption salvation and my Lord Jesus Christ
This song and it's message is imbedded in my DNA now. Not from a religious perspective, but from self awareness. It made me think about where I was going in life, and why. And, I accepted the challenge. God bless you, Switchfoot.
OMG this was my shyt and I honestly forgot about it until I was just watching "A walk to remember " with Mandy Moore and this song came on...and I just started crying. I remember being so young and just ready for the world listening to this beautiful song ❤
This song was originally written as a Christian hymn, but somehow it has seen significant success in both alternative and top 40 radio stations at the time it came out. It wasn't as successful as "Meant to Live" but it still remains one of Switchfoot's biggest singles to date. Why, it even managed to make its way to become one of the songs on Now That's What I Call Music! Vol. 17.
Whenever I start to lose hope, I always go back to Switchfoot. I found you guys when I was maybe 12 or 13, a bad point in my life (one of many and not the worst as it turns out) and you guys carried me through the rest of a tough childhood and young adulthood. Now, when things are taking a bad turn again, I have God to thank for you guys and BTS. You've saved my life and given me hope again for the thousandth time. Thanks for just being here on earth and making the music I desperately needed.
I suddenly cried watching and hearing this song. I remembered back in 2002 I was around 6 year old hearing this song for the first time when my sister was playing it on her casette tape player making me wonder what life means and gave me this awe of wonders and that haunting feeling through the song made me want to know behind the scenes of this beautiful life God gave me. That time my life was still fresh and now im 25 and realized how God met me through those moments, this song reminds me how innocent I was as a kid, praying to sleep and waking up to a blessed morning as a kid, remembering how my dad and my sister brought this hurt bird into my room and released it the next day after it was okay, at this age I realized my moments of innocence taught me the meaning of life. And now Im crying like a baby, begging God to bring me back home and this time I promise to stay obedient, I cried to God that I dont want to sin anymore and I dont want this darkness ruling over my life. I do hate sin, but sometimes the darkness overcomes me and make me do things that my spirit hates but my flesh desires. But now I realized I just have to fast and pray out loud. Fasting helps me overcome my flesh desires, it helps me be strong in God spiritually to overcome the darkness blinding and tempting me. Sorry my english is bad, this is the only way I can express for now
Depends on what your sins of the flesh are, there is a difference between God and what men who claim to be of God say, there are a lot of con artists out there, question everything and investigate the truth, peace.
Just saw San Diego's own SWITCHFOOT 🏄♂️ onstage as a special guest at the Jonas Brothers show at Honda Center in Anaheim on 10/29/23. 👍👍 Well done, gentlemen ! 😎 👏
It’s interesting to see how this song is meaningful to so many Christians. This song always reminds me of traveling with our soul families, entering new lives together, figuring out we are more than human over and over and over. Music can reach so many different kinds of people. ❤
Switch foot let me please tell you is the ultimate definition of what a modern christian rock band in all its glory should be like to the core. These white christian boys make incredible music. They are very inspiring!
This song has always reminded me of salvation. My past reeks... If I wake tomorrow, I'm certainly blessed, I've been God granted another day to serve...
This will always be one of the songs I listen to when i'm feeling down or I need a reminder that no matter what happens, Im still alive, and im alright
Time really flies, only when you watched or heard songs from the day that you realize it. It was like yesterday when I was still in college and listening to this one and now its already been a decade.
It's been years since last time i heard this song, and i happen to ear it tonight when im going through a freaking major depression, and for a second this song made me feel hope. Thanks Switchfoot!!
I'll never forget the first time I watched this music video. MTV2 Top 20 Countdown and this song was on the list. I was 13 or 14 years old. I got major 9/11 vibes when I watched the guy run past all the people in the mist. My mom had remarried after a nasty divorce, and things were finally looking up for me. Something about these guys were so different from the other bands. I think for the first time I actually heard a good band sing about hope in the midst of other bands who, quiet frankly, were not. Looking back after being a Switchfoot fan for years, I am thankful for little blessings like this to have happened. Thanks Switchfoot, you guys have been a huge influence on me over the years and I love the new album! In Christ, J-Poe
The best of the two versions. So powerful. The drummer absolutely kills in this song and I don’t even like drums usually. One of my all time favorite songs!
Listening to this song makes me long for the 2000's. Such a powerful song about recovering from things that kept you down for too long: addiction, depression... It hits me in the gut every time.
Great Song, great video. So many people are running in the wrong direction today, strait into the pit of hell. It takes great courage to run the opposite way and it means leaving much behind that you used to cling to. Salvation is the reason we run the good race, with the Armor of God on, we have the courage to keep running with Christ until our last breath.
WHY?--WHAT WAS CHRISTIANITY INVENTED FOR? could it be that jesus knew that the jews were on the path of destruction & still are with their foolish beliefs? heck, they dont or won't for some CRAZY reason separate their weekly recyclable trash cause they're just too dam lazy to do it so it all goes into the landfill--many times we have tried to take their recyclable stuff out of their regular garbage bags but its useless cause they just keep doing it the same way every week--we even tried reporting them to the sanitation dept. & nothing was done about it that all these families on our block get away with doing & not a single fine was ever issued to them, yet they all marry at a young age & have many children per family teaching them the wrong values in life & celebrating foolishly their beliefs.
I'm actually just now watching the video. I mean I've seen it before but I'm actively watching it. I have loved this song for so long and my discernment is getting stronger. I catch the meaning of lyrics. Some of my favorite songs when I was younger was never about what they meant to me before. Songs like this encourage me to move forward and others I can't even listen to all the way through because I pick up what they are laying down. It's difficult to break away from the world and sometimes I find myself lost (willfully because I become depressed that a huge majority will never know or even have an open mind enough to accept the truth) in it again but my heart and soul must be crying out. Listening to this again, knowing all of the words and finally watching the video again as an adult made me slightly overwhelmed. I wanted to cry. Not from sadness but from my appreciation for the one that loved us so deeply that he gave his life for us.
Oh my God! Such a beautiful song. Full of hope, and goodness, for a change. Almost get choked up each time I hear it, because it reminds me that there's still lots of good in the world.
This is how I think all the time. I want to change and not quit in the process of theosis. Lord have mercy. And thank this talents who put it into art.
Nice breakdown at the end / after the bridge, starting at 3:00 (bass drops out for the very trebly guitar solo, drums pull back - clears a TON of space for the return of the final chorus). Strong songwriting
God uses all the trials in order to help us become stronger in our walk with Him, and those who chooses to turn away and say "it's to hard" then I want to say I dare you to get back up again😌😇 THANK YOU SWITCHFOOT AND MAY GOD BLESS!
Absolutely blessed to witness such songs....song is over 23 years.. still afresh....really helps you tell yourself you will be okay smday...thank you switchfoot guys....this song is so much powerful ...powerful emotions...
When I was a teenager my love of my life was always off and on again because she had a drug problem and now we are married and this was our wedding song. Hits the heart strings
May be Redemption has stories to tell... may be Forgiveness is right where you fell.. where can you run to escape from yourself ..where do you want to go ? Salvation is here !! ... I dare you to point me to more powerful lyrics than these in ANY English song that was written in/after the 90's... Switchfoot showed me that Christian rock can be cool, utterly relevant and so true to its roots to just about anyone, irrespective of their own faith.. a blessed day to every one watching this beaut.. a Hindu from India
Today, right now, this song just reminded me that God chose me individually, that HE chose me to change my life from all of the suffering I had experienced to this point. July 7"th 2005 would not mean much to others but it did for me. I SO needed this in 2016, words can't explain.
Steve Jonas Thank you brother, your words have encourgaed my soul and lifted my spirit :) May God continue to bless you abundantly and that He will continue to open your eyes to His love and wonders!
Steve Jonas no explanation is needed , we're each & all broken in one or several ways. I certainly know that I am. and yet because of who Christ Jesus is there is hope. sure haven't found it anywhere else!!
I needed it in 2018, I hope Switchfoot still knows that this song is still such a life-changer. Its like bible verses you've read a 100 times already, but they really pop out to you when you need them the most. Like a holy highlighter lol. Its so great, God is good.
Just saw A walk to remember for the first time in forever and I had to let my daughter listen to this song. This movie plus the song makes me feel like I'm in junior high again.
Just discovered this a few days ago on a Spotify Christian playlist. Such a beautiful song. There are so many from the past that I can appreciate from a different perspective now. God bless
Ughh their songs are SOOOO amazing, I love everything about them. I love Jon's voice. Their songs are SO catchy. This is my fav song of theirs, second is Live it Well
I see it as he is hiting all his resistance- negativity- still focused on his goal though even through all the pain until at the end he is free to run anywhere!!! I love this video!!!!
@jason royale there you are. Send me an email jason, i dont have yours for some reason. Ps thanks are so thst great music of the cure you sent me 💗 im at 4alice4ever@gmail.com Hope you are well.😊
Im 25 yrs old. Depression, relationship heartbroken, mental health, past traumas and karma have been happening at this times. May i found strength and courage to continue this fight. God's plan are always much better. Let's continue to move forward.
Sending you love, positive energy and yes, God‘s plan is the best! Seriously thinking about you even though I don’t know you.. but I do know your story❤
Strange how you hear a song differently at different points in life.
I've noticed that also!
That's maturing.
i’ve struggled with a drug addiction for many years. my mom sent me this song. she’s always been my biggest fan, my biggest supporter. sometimes i feel i don’t let her know how much i truly appreciate her. some of these lyrics cut very deep and are quite emotional, i’m FINALLY about 4 months sober.🎉
Good on you! Your Mom knows, don't worry. For me six months was the turning point, never looked back after that. Do it Brother. Best to you.
How you doing now mate?
Keep it up for you and for her
This is very inspirational. I wish I still had a mom.
Keep it up it gets easier, 5 years clean now, even though I thought I never would.
Salvation. Time for me to move on in life. ❤
This song is 20 years old and it still hits like the first time. God bless these dudes.
I think of my oldest daughter, Stephanie every time I hear this song.❤ She use to play it all the time in her room. ❤We prayed for her for years to come back into the fleece of Christ & he has answered our prayers 😅
🙏🏼
Glory to God!🙌🏻💖The effective prayer of a righteous man/woman avails much🙏🏻
This song has power. It made me feel close to God and feel positive emotions. -Sincerely, a metalhead

I will NEVER get tired of this song. EVER.
Same
me neither i cried real tears to this song
Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everybody's watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next?
What happens next?
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before
Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
The tension is here
Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be
Yeah
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before
Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself
To lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened
Today never happened before

Guess it's about time I get out of this old energy and and start the new wheel of life and see where it takes me

No doubts,The best Christian Band.God bless this Band!

We must remember why we exist. He is so good to us. Praise Him always, throughout the days.
Thanks so much for giving a Great explanation on this song
They are not a Christian genre lol
Not a single part of this song seems Christian

This is an amazing Christian Song! I Love Switchfoot! Thanks Jesus!

FindingIma try "of monster and men"
Essa canção atravessa gerações e não perde a essência...
Show 😀🙌
Still one of the best songs ever.
How the opening just hits you upfront. This puts so much more emphasis on "welcome to the planet, welcome to existence".
This song got me through medical school in the early 2000s...inspirational. Thank you Yahweh! 😊
God is good God is awesome I love this song ❤️ it never get old I miss music like this we need this back 💖💜💙❤️
A Walk To Remember introduced me to this band!
Ikr all their songs in that movie are great
Nice breakdown at the end / after the bridge, starting at 3:00 (bass drops out for the very trebly guitar solo, drums pull back - clears a TON of space for the return of the final chorus). Strong songwriting
Thanks, Switchfoot!
to be COMPLETELY honest i did do and/or PROBABLY will really LOVE switchfoot
God uses all the trials in order to help us become stronger in our walk with Him, and those who chooses to turn away and say "it's to hard" then I want to say I dare you to get back up again😌😇
THANK YOU SWITCHFOOT AND MAY GOD BLESS!
❤️
Don't dare them, encourage them. It's what we're called to do

I have no words to describe how much I love this song. I was born in 2005. Everyone laughs at my choice of music. But how can one hate this? How???
Lembro-me de landon carter, personagem de shane west

My FAV Christian song EVER... 2020... still the BEST
Ive got my son coming into this world in October. Im thinking alot about that day when he arrives. This song is a part of those thoughts.
BEAUTIFUL!!🩷
May be Redemption has stories to tell... may be Forgiveness is right where you fell.. where can you run to escape from yourself ..where do you want to go ? Salvation is here !! ... I dare you to point me to more powerful lyrics than these in ANY English song that was written in/after the 90's...
Switchfoot showed me that Christian rock can be cool, utterly relevant and so true to its roots to just about anyone, irrespective of their own faith.. a blessed day to every one watching this beaut.. a Hindu from India
It's true. Those lyrics have kept me going through some tough times.
A BEAUTIFUL SONG BLESSES THE SOUL 🙏😇
How are you doing?
@@sarahm5936 Hi
Today, right now, this song just reminded me that God chose me individually, that HE chose me to change my life from all of the suffering I had experienced to this point. July 7"th 2005 would not mean much to others but it did for me. I SO needed this in 2016, words can't explain.
Steve Jonas Thank you brother, your words have encourgaed my soul and lifted my spirit :) May God continue to bless you abundantly and that He will continue to open your eyes to His love and wonders!
Steve Jonas Hope all is well, God will always guide you. He will help you keep your life where it needs to be, trust his plan.
You can always rely on a bible thumping Jesus freak to ruin a good thing.
Just saw A walk to remember for the first time in forever and I had to let my daughter listen to this song. This movie plus the song makes me feel like I'm in junior high again.
A walk to Remember!!!
Just discovered this a few days ago on a Spotify Christian playlist. Such a beautiful song. There are so many from the past that I can appreciate from a different perspective now. God bless
This song always seems to pop up when I’m in a fork in the road. So much inspiration. And tears!!!
