Listening in March 2024. I am 77 and just discovered MB20 in 2023. I have everything they have recorded. I relate to a great deal of the lyrics Rob writes. Plus, I love the passion in their songs, not only by Rob, but all of the band. I agree he is a great songwriter. I also feel that he has a unique to him intonation when he sings. He often cuts off a sound and blends his words that create an identifiable and recognizable sound. I personally think his sound is so original, as to make it difficult to attempt to imitate. One of my favorite singers, both solo and in the band.

Trying to get the old lady and the grandkids to understand this is what music sounds like not the junk that’s playing on any station you put on the radio and making the old lady think about the better past days that we blinked and missed
This came out when my husband of 17 years had left me and our two year old baby girl. I played the heck out of this (as well as many others) because it felt so exactly accurate.....And three years later he DID come home. We renewed our wedding vows that year and this year will mark our 37th anniversary.
I am 70 now and I still listen to all our music. I have 2 grown son's who also listen and they even admit our era had the best. Brings back so many memories.
My mom cheated on my dad and I remember sitting in the car with him when we moved to a whole other state, just us. This song was on and he was trying so hard to hold in his tears and when we got to my uncles we just sat in the car crying. This song reminded him of her and ever since, when he hears it, he always says "I think I've moved on. I no longer cry to this song" but I know he hasn't fully moved on... Every time we see her he vents to me about how he still loves her and every time I tell him he always will. Update: my parents talk frequently now and my mom has been putting an effort in to getting back our mother daughter relationship that we once had. Were on good terms with her and she explained everything that led up to what she did and the situation was very different than we thought. I wont be sharing why she did what she did because some matters should be left private. All im going to say is that we have forgiven her and i finally have a relationship with my mom again after years... Im beyond happy.
Amazingly, in spite of whatever happens between them, your existence just made it all worthy. God works in misterious ways. Love must and WILL prevail.
Matchbox 20 is definitely one of the greatest bands of the last 30 years and one of my favorites ever. I remember buying their first album when I finally got my first boom box as a kid in the 90s.
I love this song. He wrote this about his wife before they were married. I love how and why he wrote it. The man writes the sweetest love songs with passion and real feeling. His birthday is so fitting. He hasn’t done one song that didn’t make me cry.
So much yes to everything you said. When I saw that story about this song I was so touched 😍He's an Aquarius too and I just saw an article where he said his wife was his "best friend"
What is nice is that like no other time in history the bands we had listened to while we were young have created a resurgence in the art of making good music and expression. Like Rob Thomas teaming up with Santana. A powerful duo. Nothing to be ashamed about. Jeff Lynns ELO is back on tour. You both would probably really enjoy that show together. no generation gaps anymore. BTW Matchbox Twenty is still one of my favs too.
Same. Bought a house with my girlfriend of six years and found out she was (still) cheating and signed papers myself. Been two years alone. Work ten hours six days a week and just sit at home now.
Sorry Mark, I lost my companion of 32 years almost seven years ago. Just this year, finding myself again. The time range is different for everyone. Sending good vibes to you.
I'm always curious about the video. Did the production team take precautions to ensure Rob Thomas didn't lose his balance when he stands on the edge of the roof? It looks dangerous.
Just turned 64 and this band sums up relationships so accurately, relationships/marriage I haven't done well and their gone but I still have the amazing music like this.
Yea me 2 that’s why I love this fab video.! Used 2 go 2 mall after work cuz they played it! Damnnnnn what a great song with a sexy singer! Rob still rocken 2day! 💯❤️👍🎶🔥
My mom passed this June. Matchbox 20/Rob Thomas was what I grew up with her. It's nostalgic but sad to replay these songs. Always will appreciate this beautiful voice.
I know...I was just talking the other day about the late 90s or early 2000s were the last time i can remember any good new rock music. i cant think of any that was played on the radio anyway. All the rock stations now are classic rock...it just doesnt seem that theres anything new to put on the radio..
@@ryancash527 I know. It seems there isn’t much good rock out there right now. If you haven’t try Lord Huron or Hozier. Besides all of the now “classic” rock that I listen to they are pretty good.
I was ten or eleven when this was on the radio. I loved the radio back then, but this song was my favorite from the first time I heard it. It's still easily my favorite Matchbox 20 song. In fact, it is my favorite song released, whether radio played or not, between years 1992(Queen - Live at Wembley '86 - "Hammer to Fall") and 2010(MGMT - Congratulations - "Someone's Missing").
IF YOU'RE GONE - MATCHBOX TWENTY | LYRICS I think I've already lost you I think you're already gone I think I'm finally scared now You think I'm weak, I think you're wrong I think you're already leavin' Feels like your hand is on the door I thought this place was an empire Now I'm relaxed, I can't be sure And I think you're so mean, I think we should try I think I could need this in my life, and I think I'm scared, I think too much I know it's wrong, it's a problem I'm dealin' If you're gone, maybe it's time to come home There's an awful lot of breathin' room, but I can hardly move If you're gone, baby, you need to come home, come home There's a little bit of somethin' me in everything in you I bet you're hard to get over I bet the room just won't shine I bet my hands I can stay here And I bet you need more than you mind And I think you're so mean, I think we should try I think I could need this in my life I think I'm just scared that I know too much I can't relate and that's a problem I'm feelin' If you're gone, maybe it's time to come home There's an awful lot of breathin' room, but I can hardly move If you're gone, baby, you need to come home, come home There's a little bit of somethin' me in everything in you I think you're so mean, I think we should try I think I could need this in my life, and I think I'm scared, do I talk too much? I know it's wrong, it's a problem I'm dealin' If you're gone, and maybe it's time to come home Well, there's an awful lot of breathin' room, but I can hardly move Well, if you're gone, hell, baby, you need to come home, come home There's a little bit of somethin' me in everything in you Everything in (Somethin' in me in) In you
Has anyone got personal invites to there email or google chat from rob Thomas? He apparently has been reaching out to me? But it has to be a scam right?
I recently lost my wife of over 52 years and this song will always bring tears to my eyes. We so enjoyed hearing it and she could sing every word so well! To hear this song brings me much comfort, Matchbox Twenty performs it with perfection! Thanks guys!
This song just gives me chills. Awesome song. Use to hear it when I worked at the hospital as an RN. A very emotional time. Its 2022 and still loving this song!!
Me too. ICU played Rob every time I worked. I actually had patients that were incubated and non responsive for the most part but would tap their fingers to his songs.
I met a man 24yrs. ago who would play Matchbox 20 on his guitar for me. We spent the best part of a few months together but we lived continents apart. So he had to leave, which quietly shattered my heart. This song played a significant part in our situation as he said he’d return but I never knew if he did because I moved away before that could happen. I sent him a keepsake of photos & highlighted this song, as a remembrance for him. I spoke to him only once from a distance before I moved., & he again promised he’d return. I just found out recently he passed away, way too soon!! I can only say he was the One.. the love of my lifetime. The grief is immeasurable.. & this song offers a reminiscent kind of comfort. RIP🔥🌹🔥 Sweet Adrian 🌺Aloha.. a hui hou🕯️ E Hoomau Maua Kealoha
JEFF, my sincere condolences go out to you. Thanks for sharing this. I accidentally came upon this song today and your SINCERE message. I have also recently lost my Dad and have been trying so hard to stay grounded and positive. I've been avoiding music and situations and everything I possibly can, to stay strong. I was feeling good and decided to go for a walk. Not thinking, I put my headphones on and turned on my music Playlist. This song immediately came on. I broke down and had to stop and sit. Your Dad obviously was a very special person and meant the world to you as my Father did to me. Sitting there crying in the middle of the park truly took me to a different place. I lost it momentarily. I cried so hard, I felt like I couldn't breath. I sat back up and prayed. My phone had fell out of my hand and when I went to pick it up, there was your MESSAGE. I wiped my tears up and read your post. Your message woke me back up. I realized again that I'm not alone, that I'm only human. That facing my heartache and pain was long overdue and that sobbing and crying actually helped. It's so true, take the time while you can and cherish it. I wish you Health and Peace. Thankyou
It's been over 18 years ago when my dad passed away. I was too young back then and doesn't know the feeling of losing someone but I sure do love and miss the memories of him in embracing me in his arms. Whenever I heard this song, I remember him. I miss you Pa❤
This song came out when I was only 23 and now I am 42 yrs old it still is one of my favorites. I finally found the love of my life and still enjoying it.😂🎉❤😅😊
same, I’ll be 42 this year. Time flies so fast. One moment you’re waiting for this video to show up on MTV, the next you’re on UA-cam watching it on repeat reminiscing about the good ol’ days lol.
Haven't listened to this song in ages. The moment Rob starts singing and I sing along, still remembering every single word. Have a great one everybody!
Absolutely Awesome day yesterday hopefully thru the rest of them to come are even more so beautiful and amazing with positive thoughts and prayers are with us
my dad was the biggest fan of Matchbox Twenty and Train when i was around 7 and younger even, i grew up around this music and i really believe it has helped made me who i am today. Just a random thought.
That is exactly how I feel. Most of the music he listened to was Matchbox Twenty and Rob Thomas. But also stuff like Green Day, Nirvana, Blink-182, I feel like growing up with him listening to these has totally influenced my music taste and I'm so glad it has.
Wow...that is exactly what I'm dealing with now I Love this woman with every fiber of my being and we can't be together due to our own personal demons and my insecurities and jealousies
I was going through a break up some years back, listening to this at night and cry softly to ease the pain. That was one of the saddest time in my life, thank you Matchbox 20 for the memories, I'm still going, little by little everyday.
I've been going through the exact same thing for the past 8 months, being the last 3 the worst of all of them, as I realize the more time it passes the less chance for a comeback. Song lyrics definitely have something that indeed eases the process. Anyone out there going through the same stay strong.
Know this guys. At 63 (now retired) read my comments 2 weeks ago and read this. Moving to a small town, my family were the odd ones out, my Dad being a truck driver not home very much, Mom being in a band. I was the only " normal one" in the eyes of the town between my brother and sister. My high school sweet heart and I met when she went from the 6th grade to jr. High (I was in the 9th grade) and she started riding my bus. We knew each other by name but that was it. With in a few weeks, fell in love. We were together nearly every day throughout Jr High and High School. In my senior year, I went to trade school and were apart, except on Friday nights (she was a Majorette and I went to all of the football games) and Saturdays. The cracks began to appear. We went to my senior prom together and few days afterwards she said "I can't do this anymore". I crumbled like a wall. With friends, music and tears, I made it to graduation and went on with my life. She became a pediatric Nurse, got married and has to children. I got into industrial electricity and then Robots in the last 20 years. I traveled a lot and now I'm retired. Met many amazing women during that time and keep in touch with a couple even after 35 years or more. Guys AND girls. You have one thing now that I didn't back then (thank God) . 24-7 electronic distractions. You have to start shutting that stuff down. Go to a park, a library, volunteer on a regular basis. Take that time you need ( no to much) to cry and feel the pain and listen to songs like this by Matchbox 20, then get on with your life. Lots of cool moments out there. BTW, have any of you ever seen the video by Tears for Fears "Sowing the seeds of Love"? its worth the time.
This song represented a great time in my life, in recovery, all four kids were living, and Lancaster, Pennsylvania is beautiful. Still love it in September 2024.
Rob neeeds them as much as they need him he done 1 good song with Santana n thats it n the new MB 20 just sux. This is why record companies break up great bands, GREED I f'n hate it

This song was released in Sep 2000 the time when my life fell apart when my only love betrayed me and left me. Ive cried in private listening to this song a thousand times. Beautiful touching song and my favourite of Matchbox 20
+Stacy Steele what? if he wore a little eyeliner I would agree but he has a nice voice that's it. I'm not even into the hair. just admit that yo love him and be done, lol
rere nomad Oh nomad, you make me laugh. It's not what's on his eyes, but what shines through them. The intensity from his soul bleeds out of him in every verse. My silly and adorable friend, peel a few metaphorical layers back and watch it again.
I'm just messing with you. I was watching another video and he had eyeliner not very thick and his hair was a little better. I get what you are saying though.
I'd be honored if some fans of mid/late 90s classics would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of "1979" by the Smashing Pumpkins, LONG DECEMBER by the Counting Crows, and NAME by the GooGoo Dolls in tribute to 3 great standards of the era. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace out and stay safe in the '020s.
This song is so beautiful. This song gives me a weird happy/sad feeling every time I hear it. I love songs that I can connect with on an emotional level, and there's not many of them!
Now that im lookin back, im glad that im part of when good musics were made. The Happy moments that i teasure til this day. MB 20, lifehouse, the calling, creed, 3rd eyed blinds are some bands that i used to listened.
I feel your pain. I lost my husband unexpectedly of massive heart attack in his sleep on December 19 2014. @ 43 years old. we had been together 23 years & have a 8 year old. daughter. Lost my father in law to cancer January 20 2015. miss them so much .
I remember my mom always playing MB20 (this included, of course) when I was a kid on my way to day care. On top of reminding me of that part of my life, the lyrics are also vaguely describing my situation (+steve mann). Things are slowly moving forward, but it's agonizing.
On November 13, 2022 I went onto kidney failure, septic shock, had a g/I hemorrhage and a seizure. I almost died. I was in the hospital for 10 days, during the first three I was in ICU as they didn’t know if I was going to make it or not. I had to have half of my blood replaced. My wife stuck by me the whole time and for the first time in years she told me that she loved me and i actually saw and felt it. I fell in love with her all over again. Those first few nights I didn’t sleep. I listened to If You’re Gone over and over every night I was there. This one and I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You by Elvis Presley.
In the middle of the COVID-19 Pandemic, suddenly I remember this song. It feels like been years for not seeing a very good example of how good music and good video clips were made as they did. It makes me remember that good ol' time.
Melissa Ann Owens Burritt I am so sorry honey. I think I dont habe much time with my husband for long he is my life. Matchbox 20 was the only music we agree on. I cant imagine what your going through. God bless

Rob is one of the best songwriters still doing he's thing, and I've never been happier for him the hurdles he's over come is amazing. Live large brother
Hope you are doing well also. The band is supposed to have a concert in my hometown later this year, but with all the restrictions probably will be canceled like many others. Might not ever get the chance to see MB 20 ☹

Well all right then
Amazing story, truely remarkable and the hope to still believe. Thanks for sharing
I love this. ❤️
God bless you

I am 70 now and I still listen to all our music. I have 2 grown son's who also listen and they even admit our era had the best. Brings back so many memories.

I’m 66 love all this music!

Makes my heart swell… going to tune into the whole album after this. March 29th 2024.
🙏 Agree 💯 percent!!! Pure Masterful 🌹🕊️ Genius!!! 👼
So much yes to everything you said. When I saw that story about this song I was so touched 😍He's an Aquarius too and I just saw an article where he said his wife was his "best friend"
Who else loves this song?! I cannot stop listening to it 💚Matchbox 20!!!

Love them since the 90 s..

April 2024. This is my daughters music. I love it!!
If you're listening to MB 20 then you definitely have excellent taste in music.
Exactly dude !
I will NEVER quit listening to Rob Thomas!!

I miss great alt rock so much...I forget sometimes there was a time when great music like this would play on the radio and actually be mainstream.
1996 i started listening to Matchbox - there isn’t a group like them. best years of my life ❤️
I know...I was just talking the other day about the late 90s or early 2000s were the last time i can remember any good new rock music. i cant think of any that was played on the radio anyway.
I miss being a teenager listening to this song on the radio, when the world wasn’t nearly as messed up as it is now

IF YOU'RE GONE - MATCHBOX TWENTY | LYRICS
I think I've already lost you
I think you're already gone
I think I'm finally scared now
You think I'm weak, I think you're wrong
I think you're already leavin'
Feels like your hand is on the door
I thought this place was an empire
Now I'm relaxed, I can't be sure
And I think you're so mean, I think we should try
I think I could need this in my life, and
I think I'm scared, I think too much
I know it's wrong, it's a problem I'm dealin'
If you're gone, maybe it's time to come home
There's an awful lot of breathin' room, but I can hardly move
If you're gone, baby, you need to come home, come home
There's a little bit of somethin' me in everything in you
I bet you're hard to get over
I bet the room just won't shine
I bet my hands I can stay here
And I bet you need more than you mind
And I think you're so mean, I think we should try
I think I could need this in my life
I think I'm just scared that I know too much
I can't relate and that's a problem I'm feelin'
If you're gone, maybe it's time to come home
There's an awful lot of breathin' room, but I can hardly move
If you're gone, baby, you need to come home, come home
There's a little bit of somethin' me in everything in you
I think you're so mean, I think we should try
I think I could need this in my life, and
I think I'm scared, do I talk too much?
I know it's wrong, it's a problem I'm dealin'
If you're gone, and maybe it's time to come home
Well, there's an awful lot of breathin' room, but I can hardly move
Well, if you're gone, hell, baby, you need to come home, come home
There's a little bit of somethin' me in everything in you
Everything in
(Somethin' in me in)
In you

Me too 😊

Thankyou
❤
