The purpose of Exodus 12:1-28 is to record the LORD’s instruction to Israel regarding the institution of the Passover, or Feast of Unleavened Bread. This Feast was to be an act of faithful obedience by the Israelites in Egypt and the faith-filled observance through which they and their families would be marked by the blood of a sacrificed lamb and spared the destruction of their firstborn. The Passover was to be a meal of sacrifice, preparation, substitution, remembrance, and proclamation.
