Thanks for all these amazing comments I'll be answering everyone in full, probably have to answer them on the laptop as they are longer than my phone can handle 😊😊 again thanks everyone 🤩🤩👍👍
Great video. I’ve also suffered with social anxiety all my life. I can talk to people who I feel comfortable around or people who talk to me first but if I don’t know the person or if they don’t initiate the conversation then i find it really hard to talk to them. One thing I’ve found is the older I get the harder it gets and the less understanding people are. When your young people will say “he’s shy, bless” but then as you get older it turns into “he’s ignorant or rude”. I’m not I just don’t find it easy to talk to people, even something as simple as saying hello or bye is a struggle. Thanks for sharing 👍
Cheers for watching mate 🤩🤩👍👍it's funny how we can feel ok around some people and not others, it's really hard to "make the first move" in a conversation 🤔👍 and what you say about young vs old is spot on.... never do you think a youngster is ignorant but as soon as you grow up it turns into "they are ignorant" your comment is spot on and it's one of the worst thing about Social Anxiety, it always gets perceived as something different and nowadays if I see someone behaving in a certain way, I think that looks like Social Anxiety 🤔 wish more people who didn't have it understood 👍thanks again fit sharing your experiences mate 😊😊😊👍👍👍
For me it's the unpredictability of how I'm going to feel and act. I don't go red I get the shakes. Whenever I am in a group it's like the walls close in on me and I feel like everybody is looking at me. It can be so severe that I feel compelled to make excuses and not attend. If I do attend and bluff my way through the ordeal it is absolutely exhausting. I've had people ask why I'm shaking so much. Then I start thinking that they think I'm an alcoholic or something. I haven't touched alcohol for 10 years so it is literally anxiety and panic that causes the tremors. I used to get the shakes at school also. I have friends who can literally go solo onto the dancefloor in a club. Things like that I've never been able to do. Anyway John I know how you feel, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this comment Brian 🤩🤩👍👍 yeah mate, totally get what you are saying here! It's hard to explain it to anyone who isn't affected by Social Anxiety, but if it affects a person they totally get, I do think that when I started mentioning it to people, it made it a LOT better Brian, it will never cure it but I find it's a lot less often that it rears it's ugly head, it's definitely a vicious circle mate, I always think that something will happen so then it's hugely on my mind for the "activity" so maybe I bring it on myself, and so it continues..... 😳 hopefully you can make small steps to pushing it back and maybe reaching a higher level of relaxation at stressfull times 🤞🤞😁😁 every little helps and I do think making my UA-cam channel and effectively "confessing" to having Social Anxiety it's helped a lot..... ill definitely be making a part 2 to this video and share my thoughts on how things are now 🤔🤩👍 thanks once again Brian, really appreciate you sharing 😁😁🙏🙏
Hi John, this is something that I’ve had since a child, I never had a birthday party because the idea of being the centre of attention was crippling or having to talk to people (still don’t have Birthday parties to this day) getting up and speaking in school was disturbing to say the least (of course it’s unavoidable and I did it a few times) having to give a speech at my own wedding was the most nerve wracking part of the day (daft I know) but UA-cam has definitely boosted the confidence (strange really I chose to start a channel in the first place lol) very interesting and relatable video mate👍😀👍
Hi Alan, yeah totally identify with your experiences mate! Speaking out loud was awful!! Having everyone look at you was so uncomfortable!! My wedding speech (which is on video I think) was only doable when I had downed some bevvies 😵💫🤪 it's a thing I didn't expect that UA-cam would do wonders for your confidence but it does doesn't it 🤔😁😁 maybe its like having a virtual wide circle of friends maybe 🤔 thanks for watching Alan! Appreciate that mate 🤩🤩👍👍
Cheers for watching Cheekster.....it was quite easy to rattle it off.....been waiting a long time to say it!! But the thoughts of rattling it off where a bit daunting but it worked out really helpful to me in the end! Thanks again for watching it mate 🤩🤩🙏🙏
Hey John mate, do you remember me saying I was going to post your package today? I didn't but not because I didn't really want to. I have severe anxiety if I step out of my flat. I can be dressed and have my coat and shoes on but if I hear people outside I can't bring myself to even open my front door. I have been assigned a guy who for 2+ years takes me out and encourages me to face my fears but most days I'm on my own in my flat with just my thoughts and emotions. I'm sorry I couldn't get to the post office, which is literally just over the road from me. I really appreciate your honesty. Topical discussions regarding mental health need to be talked about a lot more. This video is the one that rises above all of your other content for me because most of the time I feel I have no purpose and I do not fit into this life. Anyway mate, thank you for this and I will get your package sent to you as soon as I can ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏👏👏
Hey Jeff, many many thanks for this message mate ❤❤ never worry about anything that you send, the fact you want to send me anything is more than enough. Only do things when you are able and never stress yourself out about it!! Im taking ages sending you the stuff I promised mate (still got a couple of things to get, sorry its taking ages 🥴🥴😁) im really glad I made this video and its helping me and hopefully others, yeah its a thing I'll needed to talk about for sure!!! Remember not to feel that way Jeff, you have a good presence on here and I look forward to your comments and that makes you a part of this community mate!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 take care my friend 😁😁😁👍👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies Thank you John mate for your sincere words. I'm so glad this video of yours was well received as mental health really needs a place in the front of people's minds ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I've been watching your full collection videos, I'm on part 4 as of right now. It's amazing looking through a collection 👍✌️👏😀😉❤️
It's great when someone who puts themselve out there on UA-cam discusses this. You automatically think UA-camrs have confidence but it helps people like me who have social anxiety that that's not always the case. I always look forward to your videos mate, as it always inspires me to go out and get back into collecting. Long live the new flesh.
Cheers Darren 😊😊👍👍 yeah far from it mate! It seems like a few channels feel the same way, which does surprise me as well 😲 yeah it's amazing what you can cut out in the edit and appear to be a cool as a cucumber 😊 I'm really happy to hear that you have enjoyed this video, I feel much better for making it Darren!! Happy collecting mate and 🤩🤩🤩 long live the new flesh 😁😁😁👌👌
Yeah, I understand 100%. I realized that social anxiety was something that plagued me, my entire life. In school, I would sit and not pay attention, because I was so busy praying that I wouldn’t be called upon to answer. I had gotten a new job, and on day one, they told me that they were having a special lunch to welcome me to the company. That was enough to make me want to leave straight away. Little did I know what was coming: during the lunch, they introduced me, then asked me to STAND, AND TELL PEOPLE ABOUT MYSELF. To say I was MORTIFIED, would be an understatement. It was as awkward as can be, and fortunately, another employee saw my discomfort, and cracked a joke, which was a GODSEND, as the attention was off of me right away. We became good friends while I was there. I opened a store, and was FORCED to confront my demons, as I had to interact with my customers. Now, I find I can interact with ANYONE with complete ease. My lingering problem? Chatting on the phone…I STILL have huge problems with that.
Wow mate, that would have crushed me with that presentation!!! They are hard enough but to have Social Anxiety added in literally makes it 1000 times worse 😲😲 your work pal was awesome for helping you through it and it's exactly the way that was on the TV programme to face it head on 🤩🤩 but as you say with the phone, it's probably a thing that can't be totally eradicated fully, must admit when I read your story I was going ohhhh nooooo as I know how I would have felt in that situation 😳 thanks very much for sharing mate 😊😊👍👍
Hi John just watched you social anxiety video and I can totally relate, never liked standing up in front of people and talking, still don't, feeling myself going red, never liked being in large groups, took me over 30 years to get married as I didn't want to be the centre of attention, daft I know but I did it Las Vegas with just 4 people there. Thanks for sharing this so I know there are a lot more people out there👍
Hi Paul, thanks for this message mate 😊😊👍👍 yeah it seems the top ones are these things you have mentioned 👍 if you are affected by it, it's hard to do those life experiences with ease so it puts them very much on a back burner 🤔 it does show that there are ways round these events, and they don't have to be full on, I really do prefer a quiet time with no glitz myself, I find it much more enjoyable personally! Thanks for sharing your experiences mate and yeah it seems is a problem a lot of people have but don't come forward as they think they are the only person in the world like that, but it seems we aren't mate 😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍
Great video John, it's always good to bring this up, because guys find it hard to share, and you've done this really well. My job on Ships is to be Social 24/7, however this has affected my real life when it comes to social interactions. This is why I appreciate communities and channels like this, because you can showcase what you love, and be social in a completely different way. Keep up the great videos mate. 😀😀😀
Cheers Chris appreciate you watching mate!! I think it's something I've been building up to on my channel and it kind of marked the first 2 years on here well 🤩 I can tell you have a great presentation on your videos and your skills show through which is great!! Yeah its a great platform to kind of do whatever you want Chris 😁😁👍👍
well done John for highlighting this subject matter, it effects a lot of people and was brave of you explaining how it effects you. When you think of how isolated we all have been over the last few years it has effected more and more . All the best John
Thanks Jimmy, appreciate that mate 🤩🤩👍👍 yeah it's been a great reaction to the video which is brilliant 👌👌 the last couple of years have been weird!! 😬😬 thanks Jimmy 🤩🤩👍👍
Hi John, I can relate to almost everything you say in this video. We are around the same age, I’m 53, and used to do exactly the same things with my old mates, making ramps and jumping over them on bikes to see how far we could go. I also don’t like mixing with others, especially people who I don’t know. I’ve always been shy and can relate to the going red when put in an awkward situation.
Cheers Christopher 🤩🤩👍👍 oh man those bike stunts we used to do were crazy!! How we didn't all die back in the 70s I'll never know 😳😳😁 I wonder who invented blushing 😳🤬 I think it would be easier to navigate if going red wasn't a thing! Thanks so much for sharing Christopher 🤩🤩👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies Some of the things that we used to get up to John you just wouldn’t believe. How I’ve never broken a bone I’ll never know. I used to love programs about stuntmen, do you remember the Stunt challenge show that used to be shown where pro British stunt artists used to complete against each other? The Fall Guy was another favourite. Yes John, going red can be a pain and used to bother me a lot more when I was younger. It can still happen now though.
Thanks for this video John. Ive suffered with social anxiety since I can remember and it's great to see you talk so bluntly about it. At the end of the day its part of who we are, not an illness of something we should be ashamed about. Don't know if your a fan of 'Wild Things' but I watched the arrow 4k last night and it looks amazing. 😀😀😀
Cheers Richard 😊😊👍👍 I think when you address a subject like this, you've just got to be as honest as possible and you're right, it's just a fact of life, no one really talks about it but a lot of people probably want to 👍 thanks for this message mate, really appreciate you saying this 👍👍 I'm hearing a lot of good things about Wild Things Richard, never heard of it before, but might have to check it out 🤔😁 thanks again Richard 🤩🤩👍👍
I'd never even heard of SA until you brought the condition to my attention, John. However, upon doing some subsequent online research i realised SA has surely impacted my life for some considerable time. As the great Arthur Daley once said, "What a comfortin' fawt. One is not alone in one's sufferin'.".
Yeah was good to chat about this thing wasn't it John, yeah it would have been great to find this out back in the day and deal with it to the best of our ability 🤔👍👍it's a lot more prevalent than I thought which is comforting in itself 😁😁👍👍
Brilliant mate, it's wolfy btw. Hit the nail on the head and it may surprise you to learn that I'm the same. You keep being you mate cos that's what makes you special. 🤘🤘
Cheers Wolfy, well I always thought we had lots in common even down to this!! 😁😁 yeah it's a funny old thing! We've been good mates for 40 plus years and we only find this out today! How crazy! Thanks for that Wolf and yeah keep on keeping on and all that 😊😊😊🤘🤘🤘
Fantastic John. I’m on a YT hiatus atm but this is a vid I had to see. There is so much I relate to and could say but there is literally SO much that I’d be here all day writing about it. I was nodding along to so much of what you said, including the guilt of ignoring people (I even consciously avoid people if I see them before they see me!). Most people don’t understand and just think I’m odd, wierd, rude or stuck-up. You’ve inspired me to do a video talking about this as I have a lot to say about it too that ties into UA-cam and live streams which is where the old anxiety rears it’s nasty head again. I will of course link back to your video so people can watch yours also but it could make a really interesting talking point in the community. I know several people with a similar issue. It could be a very cathartic experience for a lot of us. Fantastic video John. Massive respect.
Many thanks Lisa 🤩🤩🤩 yeah I honestly thought I was the only person that avoided meeting people, but it seems like it's a thing that happens to a lot of people, which makes me feel more "normal" bad word to choose buy you know what I mean 🤔😁 I would love to hear you talk on this subject and your experiences, hey maybe in a way we could all "tame it" and make it easier do deal with 🤞😊 but I'm realistic to think there's no magic wand here! 🥴😁 if I feel a change in things by making this video I might do a follow up one day, if I get a few pointers that could help anyone.... I know this has helped me (in myself) a lot and a question that sometimes gets asked of UA-camrs "what is the video you are most proud of?" Well it's going to be this one Lisa, in fact I think I've been unconsciously building up to it from day one!! 😊 thanks for your support with this and thanks for the kind words 🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing dude, a brave thing to do; you're not alone in your problem - the severity of my own social anxiety varies, sometimes it's mild, and sometimes it's crippling. I'm currently putting myself outside of my comfort zone by appearing in a low budget horror film, yikes. It'll either be the coolest experience ever, or I'll dissolve into a steaming blob of jelly in front of everyone! Wish me luck, haha.
Cheers Ness 😊😊👍👍I felt like I needed to put this out and it's been a really great experience 😊😊👍👍that's a good point Ness... I don't feel socially anxious all the time but it can ramp up anytime yoy feel as if you have "tamed it" still never know why or how that happens 😵💫😵💫 wow!! That movie sounds amazing Ness!!! Hope you have a great experience with it and you'll have to tell me more about it 🤔🤔 thanks again 🤩🤩👌👌
@@MondoChelloveckMovies sorry for the late reply. I'm glad that putting your thoughts out there on this issue has been a positive experience; I think it has been for a lot of people hearing it too, who may have been suffering in silence. I know I certainly found much to identify with. As to the film, yeah I normally wouldn't have become involved due to said social anxiety problems, but I found out about a year ago that the previous film to the current flick was being shot more or less opposite my house! That was just too close to ignore, and although I was really nervous about it, I knew I'd regret it forever if I didn't try to get involved in some capacity. Anyway, long story short: my son and I started off lifting stuff around on set, and ended up in very brief roles on camera. Now that the sequel is being filmed, we've been asked back to perform larger roles, with myself having more lines than much of the rest of the cast - crikey! Fingers crossed I can manage it!
My main anxiety is with my job,I’m a lorry driver and I fell it every day that I’m working. I feel I’m either going to get lost or I’m going be involved in an accident or be late to my delivery for some reason. Nothing has happened so far,but I can’t stop that feeling,I look forward to my days off,but when I start work again,it returns. I’ve had to buy an expensive sat nav and unlimited mobile data to help me in my job and ease the anxiety a bit. I’m the same as you,I like buying records and films to take my mind off work. I just feel it’s something I have to live with, but I’ll never get used to it. Well that’s my two pence worth. I understand what you’re going through. I’m sure a lot more people are going through it,but hide it well.👍
Its hard to dismiss the things that make us all anxious, it can be different things for every individual I'm hearing 🤔😊 I think it's important to find coping strategies as if you try to "beat it" you might lose yourself trying 👍👍I think that's a good point that people hide it, I suppose that's a way to deal with parts of it but maybe bigger stuff needs to be talked about! I think it's more widespread than a lot of us thought, but hopefully people can generally get through it mate!! Cheers for this comment bud 🤩🤩👍👍
Great job John, Few similar elements here from me mate, u might have seen me mention in my video about why I started youtube, I very briefly mentioned that I'm not very social myself in real life, (very often prefer to not do something and stay home, bit less now I'm older) While for me I don't seem to go red, however I do very much feel very uncomfortable in large group's or get togethers. Could even be in close family, I usually just sit very quietly and don't speak. Often leave as early as I think isn't too rude too but im sure often is. If I bump into someone I haven't seen for a while or don't often see I always find it hard to think of things to say and make conversation. Just feel uncomfortable and move on as soon as I can. I have a couple of fantastic mates from school that I do see when I can and have no problems around them they are like brothers to me. Work wise similar to u part of my job now is training staff, however this is usually one to one so I'm fine with that lower number of people. However I wouldn't be able to really stand up and train or speak to a group of more than probably 3 people. Great thing to share mate, ur not alone like u say 👍🏻
I remember that video Ash, it resonated with me mate 👍the going red thing is the one thing I wish i could change (really annoying 🤬) yeah I think the bigger the group the more anxious I am to go home 🥴 my training was one to one and that was great, but more than that!! 😳😳😳 not to great 😁 my mates are all sound and I feel like i can be relaxed with them 👍👍 yeah great response to this video Ash! Thanks for this great message mate!
Hey John. Wow, it's great that you make a video about this topic mate !. Being a person who suffered in the past and still suffers from social anxiety today, mainly because i spend much of my childhood and youth being bullied, i know from experience that this is a very rough thing to live with. And believe it or not, being a movie critic & finding this community, being able to share my passion of films (science fiction, horror, fantasy, western etc) tv, comic books, music etc actually helps me a lot and gives me a lot of satisfaction. So thank you for spending some time talking about this topic. Cheers mate ;).
Thanks mate!! Appreciate this great comment 😊😊👍👍 it's common to hear that quiet people can suffer for it 😔 its great that you find UA-cam helps you and I think a hobby is essential in life no matter what the circumstances 🤔😊 really appreciate these kind words my friend 😁😁👍👍
Great video John. High school was not for me with no friends. I'd skip school and go to the cinema and watch The Untouchables and Heartbreak Ridge etc. As a result I am a compulsive Blu ray collector and I've diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome. I am 51 years old 😄
Cheers for sharing bud, this seems to be a thing I'm hearing a lot when a person doesn't like an activity they find Solace in things they do mate!! Totally get that!! Movies are a great way to escape for a couple of hours 😁😁 thanks again mate 😊😊👍👍
John, here I am in the state of California in the United States, where everybody is supposed to be outgoing. Nope. Not everybody. I totally relate to what you go through. And I am an actor. When I do that, I can hide behind the character I play. But in social situations, as you mentioned, I feel quite inept; and I, too am happily married, and have quite a few friends. You are not alone. Thanks, by the way, for your channel. Quite enjoyable, even though I might always agree with your conclusions. I, too love silent movies, nasties and 4K. Thanks for all you do, and especially for today's confessional..
Hi Robert, fascinating insight into what you are talking about, it does look to me that people from America are akways very confident and ultra good at speaking in public situations! But thanks for your sharing your experiences 😊😊 thanks for watching the channel and hey if we all agreed on everything the World would be quite dull 🤔😁😁 many thanks for this comment Robert 🤩🤩👍👍
This is why I see you as the Legend of the community mate. I'm proud of you for this video. In my mind you don't have to apologise for anything. I 100% understand why you did this video. It feels a relief to speak about these things and I really hope you feel a weight off your shoulders. We've all watched you grow. You don't have 2K followers for your good looks you know 😉 😁 People have an ability to work out and understand why you ignore them and they just leave you be. Not to be horrible or they don't like you anymore. Just they understand. Of course some will take it the wrong way but if they don't ask, they won't know. People keep telling I have a calming effect if I meet them physically face to face. What those people don't realise is in some circumstances, I'm terrified 😳 and fight to make myself say anything. My offer to help you with your TV is totally open. So is a video chat. If neither happens I'll still watch your channel and comment and nothing will change in my mind. If I came across pushy (which sometimes I think I have) it was never intended. My desire to help sometimes, over power's weather I should or not. Keep doing what you do John, it's why we keep coming back to your videos.....and you looks 😍 Trevor
Cheers Trevor mate 🤩🤩👍👍if anyone asks me the video im most proud of its definitely this one! I think it said everything I needed to! And the time was right 🤔 so very happy with it 🤩 I can appear a certain way in certain situations but im feeling quite different inside! A bit sick at times 🤢 strange feeling for sure, so you try not to put yourself in the situation I suppose 🤔 yeah totally on for the TV help ans a video chat would be awesome Trevor 🤩🤩 no you aren't pushy at all 🤣🤣 I think to myself ill do this and that with some things like sorting out the TV with you, go to work and forget about it 🥴🥴 so its totally my mistake Trevor 👍👍👍thanks for all your support with the channel and ill DEFINITELY get back to you about a video call, alright to do it on Instagram video call? 🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies I don't have Instagram mate. It would have to be Facebook or WhatsApp. I don't mind emailing you my number. I'm off all next week (between jobs) so I'm sure we can arrange a time between us some how 😆 Speak to you soon fella. Trev
I suffered with this for years, I used to throw up at the thought of even going out. My body used to get tight and sweat. I remember leaving my first job interview halfway through because I had to go and be sick in the toilet. This lasted for about 12 years, it became routine that I would be sick when I went out.
I must admit I'm surprised by you saying this Mark! You always come across very confident in your videos mate, but saying that is kind of like the main part of this that the individual hides or tries to hide it, to appear not to have it 🤔 so I can totally relate mate!! 😊😊😊 so how do you feel now Mark? Is it easier for you mate? Hope so, but thanks so much for sharing that with me mate!! Means a lot 😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies yeah it's much better now, I hit rock bottom when I was about 29 and I have become a total different person since then. Glad to know that you are doing better with it as well.
Very interesting to hear your story and being so open, thank you for that. I have suffered with shyness my whole life from when I was at school even though I did have friends, the thing that mad it worse is When I was taken out of school as had a thing called M.E which did take a long time to diagnose but being out of school made it a lot more hard for my social skills. I ended up getting a home teacher and this went on for years, When I did go back to school I only went back for half days to start with and it was not a good time as I felt lost as by then everyone had there own groups and my shyness got worse. Now later on in life I struggle being around many people if I don’t know them and even if I do and if there is a lot I prefer to go and sit in the corner somewhere, I just cant start Conversations as have always felt I have nothing to say and I get my words mixed up, I hate any attention and prefer to avoid at all costs of the risk of it. It tends to take along time to get to know someone for me until I can open up. The last 3 years I now get small panic attacks which is odd as I thought I was getting a little better with it because of my age. When I done UA-cam to start with it was hard and I could never show my face but it has brought me alot of friends online. UA-cam is nothing I would tell anyone I know I was doing and I keep it a secret, I don’t think any one I know really understand me collecting films. Movies are my comfort for sure and my love. Anyway that’s a small part of my issues and don’t want to bore you anymore but felt I would open up like you have and that there is alot of us out there. Take care bud
Many thanks for this comment Gary, it's interesting to hear about your life and how events have created certain pathways for you. Collecting well anything really is a great way to focus on something perhaps not to deal with others, I remember starting to collect records and it was like an addiction! Maybe subliminally it could have filled a gap 🤔 I do think UA-cam is a great place to have Social interactions with people and it make me us progress in a way we wouldn't have if we didn't have it 🤔 I hope that UA-cam will help you as I think it's helping me and that's a good thing at the end of the day, I don't know how "improved" I'll be in the future but I do realise it has helped me to talk about it and it's VERY comforting to know its 'not just me" that has Social anxiety issues 👍👍 thanks very much for this comment Gary mate!! Really appreciate you being so honest as well 😊😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍👍
Good on you for putting it out there, John. It's something I've confronted over the years and I recognise a lot of what you say. I think common interests have been my way of connecting with people, and it's been really important to me. Most people who know me would think I'm very sociable and outgoing but over time, as I've matured perhaps, I've found socialising more stressful beyond my close friends. It's a strange thing, really, because life is good for me and I'm professionally relatively successful (in most people's eyes) but the idea of going to a shop or garage or speaking to a stranger feels very uncomfortable to me. Anyway, I really just wanted to say I share what you're saying and I give you a massive high five. No easy solution but I feel where you're coming from and I'm really enjoying your channel and it's brought me great enjoyment and comfort over the last year or so. All the best. Will
Cheers Will appreciate these kind words mate 😊😊👍👍 it's funny how this Anxiety can manifest differently in people, I'm more anxious speaking to people I haven't seen for a while who I know, but people i don't know I'm better with, unless it's a few and then I'm "oh no" 😵💫 funnily enough I find Garages really stressful!! Its a very strange one, it's as if you are going into a "gang" and they are staring at you waiting for you to slip up ready to laugh at you for not know what part has faulted 🤯🤯 of course they aren't but wow!! Thanks for saying you enjoy the channel Will, means a lot mate 😊😊😊👍👍👍
Thanks for sharing your story John. Rang alot if bells in my own mind. Think I have had SA all my life but just tried to ignore or hide it. All the best to you.
Thanks Richard 😊😊👍👍yeah it's a thing that I feel a lot of people experience and often don't talk about it, I tried everything to get past it until I found out it was Social Anxiety and I could move on somewhat knowing it wasn't just me 🤔 thanks Richard, appreciate this comment 😊😊👍👍
Hi John thanks for putting this video out, this is something I've had for a very long time. All of your conditions are the same as I have, I'm a non drinker as well and all those same thing happen to me. I was also not aware of this condition until very recently. I'm also a movie collector like yourself and staying in and watching a movie to me is far better than meeting other people but there are times when I do go out and normally have a great time but in my head I think that people will think of being stupid or dumb, which they probably don't think at all. Thanks again John, keep your videos coming, I have added a DVDs to my collection from your recommendations, although some of them can be bit hard to find here in Australia 🇦🇺
Cheers for this great comment Jason 😊😊👍👍 it amazing to hear that we kind of run parallel in our experiences also somewhat comforting to know that we are not alone in our experiences 😊😊😊 yeah there is a lot to be said for the comfort of watching movies mate! That's another great point Jason, I do think loads of things that never would happen.... I know they aren't going to happen....but I still feel like it will.... vicious circle isn't it 😵💫 thanks again for watching the channel and yeah I hear that Australia is difficult to get some items (or pricey) in the UK its quite difficult to get some Australian editions! You would think with us being under the same monarch, we could help each other out? 😉 many thanks Jason, take care bud 😊😊👍👍
Well done John, hope that helps in some way. I wouldn't feel bad about it though. I think we all have elements of this in one way or another. For me, I'm strangely very comfortable mixing with total strangers (and close friends/family, of course) but usually quite uncomfortable mixing with those that I know, but not very well. I used to think that I was just not very good at socialising but I don't think that's the reason. I think it's because we humans have spent so much of our history in small familiar groups but then all of a sudden we now live in a world surrounded by hundreds of acquaintances. My brain certainly hasn't got the RAM needed for it. I'd definitely operate much better in a forest, with a bearskin loin cloth and a pointy stick.
Cheers for the comment Jamesy 😊😊👍👍 I felt that I needed to put this out there, would have been many years ago if I found out about it earlier 🤔😊😊 I probably see Vin the most from school, we are like chalk and cheese when it comes to socialising 😵💫🤯🤣 yeah going into the real world and changing everything you did or groups you worked with or partied with was a bit of a different experience for sure! Get me a pointy stick mate! Sounds like fun 😊🤩 cheers again bud! You still live down the coast? 👍👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies Yeah, still live in Shields and still in touch with Nicholas Hall, Michael Bland, Claire Smiles, Stephen Harrison, Mark Devlin, Michael Hall and Anthony Clarke. Of course, we also see Vin now and then too but he's unlike everyone else John, no one socialises as well or as often as Vin so don't beat yourself up! :-) Anyway, well done with the blog mate. It's nice seeing it develop from scratch to what is now a very respectable following. Keep it up and take care.
Really appreciated your insights John, thanks and wow! I can definitely relate to the ‘going red’ curse. Have had it myself since school and we’re the same age I believe. It weighed on me some much that I sought medication to help suppress it so I could get through Uni. Over time though, I just accepted that “that’s what I do” and I think maybe that has helped me (sub-consciously) to control it. Anyway, thanks again for this video, and your others! 👍🙂
Cheers Daz 🤩🤩👍👍the "red curse" great way to put it! 👌👌 is the worst as it really draws attention to someone who doesn't like attention 🤯🤯 how's that for a vicious circle 😵💫😵💫 I did look into ways to stop the redness but they seemed a bit extreme! Even an operation 😲 but as you sat, we gotta live with it at the end of the day!! I do feel a lot better now I know what it is and have talked about it 👍👍👍thanks for this excellent comment Daz!!! Really appreciate it mate 😊😊👍👍
I do think that this is something that most people have in their lifetime,I was like this earlier in my life but my job has thrust me forward into circumstances that Im sure has helped me,All the best John and well done for this video 👍🏻
Cheers Gary 🤩🤩👍👍 I think you're right and glad to find out it wasn't just me I can tell you 😊😊 I do find doing the things can help! It's definitely a thing that can work 👌👌 cheers Gary! Appreciate that mate 😊😊👌👌
Great video, John. I always thought I was a bit strange, didn’t like parties or social gatherings, still don’t. I often come up with excuses to not go to events because of this condition. I am okay in pubs for most of the time but sometimes it gets too much. My friends are in a band and last time I went to watch them I was at a table on my own which was great until a hen party of middle-aged ladies (I am now 60) settled down at the tables it became too much, had to go home! (a mate of mine would have just started chatting to them). Didn’t know about it till I had a mini breakdown after being made redundant after 39 years 2 months and 22 days and went to have counselling. Done the walking past, well usually pretending that I haven’t seen them 😂. Thanks for posting this video, hopefully it will help not only sufferers but also those that come across the likes of us.
Cheers Mark, I think that's the first thing that goes through people's head that they are strange! Especially if you think you're the only person in the world that gets these feelings!! But we discover its far from the case! 😊😊👍👍 being made redundant is the worse!! Happened to me after Findus "burned down" 🥴🥴 I was lucky enough to get another job after 10 days but its an awful experience!!! The waking past is the main one I want to get on top of 🤞🤞🤞 or a least improve it! Good point that it might inform people who aren't Socially Anxious to be mindful of people who are! Thanks for this great comment Mark 😊😊😊👍👍👍
I’m still watching John. Just wanted to say, what a fantastic video and straight from the heart. I’m sure and hoping this video will help many people. Well done.😀👍 Going back to it now as only have 10mins left.👍
Cheers Carl, glad it's been received well and I'm blown away by the response to it 🤩🤩👍👍 I just wanted to be as honest as possible and it was quite easy to go through it, which is unusual for my videos (loads of cuts and re starts 🤯😁) I'm glad people seem to have enjoyed it and thanks for this great comment mate! All the best to you all 🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍
Great video mate, as i explained on your FB post I completely understand where you are coming from, my issue is Face your Fears is a fast track to a seizure or breakdown (diagnosed severe anxiety and Autistic). What works for some will be a nightmare for others, stay strong buddy and fight your fight the way you feel comfortable and at your own pace.
Cheers Nos 😊😊👍👍yeah it's easier said and done when the answer is to confront it head on and risk feeling ten times worse!! Hopefully this is the first step to get to where I'll end up... wherever that is 🤔 if it helps me in any way it'll be most welcome!! Thanks again Nos, appreciate your support mate 😊😊😊😊👌👌👌👌
Brilliant video John glad you got it out there, I struggle with things your talking about and im on tablets. I think it's good we hear more people talking about it
Many thanks for watching Tony mate 😊 if I could of, it would have been my first video, but glad I waited till now as it seems to have achieved what I always hoped it would, it feels really good to speak about this and for you to come forward and talk about it as well 😊 I know its never going to be "cured" but this has helped a great deal 👌 thanks again Tony 😊😊😊👍👍👍
Great video John and I can relate to this in lots of ways.Socialising has always been a problem for me if I know there is a party or get together planned I feel myself saying to myself oh no I really don’t want to go to this even if there is going to be people there I don’t see very often as I really struggle to make conversation and would be quite happy to just sit there in the background. I was a quiet lad at school and yes your was right in saying I was called shy back then. I can go to a football match or concert with thousands of people no problem at all but me in a group or party situation is quite different. Thanks again John for doing this video. 👍👍
Cheers for commenting Roy 😊😊 yeah it's that initial feeling of "oh no" that starts the ball rolling and until the activity is done you're not settled!! I was chatting at work yesterday about how over the top I was at school and that might have been a shield to stop people thinking I'm shy (although I was) it's definitely a part of human nature that in certain situations the anxiety can come out, sadly it makes the person feel on edge and like they have "failed" in a way, even thought they haven't 🤔 thanks for this great comment Roy mate 😊😊😊👍👍👍
John what an open and honest video. I can remember the times spent with you and the gang as teens and thinking back I thought you had a wicked sense of humour and although that comes across in this video I think so many people will be able to relate to this because of the way this has been done. So very well done John showing your natural intelligence which was never in doubt even back then.👍👏
Thanks Kim, that means a lot 😊😊 yeah we had some epic times in Fun City and the Spanna!! What a bunch of nutters we were (In a good way 😉) although this has been a thing for the longest time I wanted to still be upbeat and above all honest 👍 it is relating to a lot of people which is very reassuring to me for sure 😊 thanks so much Kim hope you are well and long live your Blue box jacket!! 😁😁😁😁 x
Hi John, I know and understand exactly where you coming from, I suffer with Anxiety and depression Generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, had it way before school, its is all part of my lifestyle counsellors therapists say. I am very shy too. It's better now because it's better managed, controlled and I have better support and help from my psychiatrist, which I have a review for every couple of months. I too John was the class clown I messed about so much and was hardly ever in school, I never really put the time in and failed all my exams, I got into many fights, smoking, drugs, bad crowd, heavy drinking, just bad lifestyle, felt like sometimes I was a monster, because everyone disowned me inc all family, and I don't blame them, I would not won't to be around me. I now have also bipolar disorder. I struggle with moments of hypo mania and my emotions are like roller coaster up down, medications and personal things I do do help like walking, talking to people, going to church, listening to music, reading, getting out of house. I understand the problem better now, and believe I can manage and control it better. Thanks for your video John. Jamie.
Thanks for sharing your story Jamie, I can relate to it mate!! The fact that you have gotten through all this and be still standing is testament to yourself mate 😁😁👍👍 also it's brilliant that you have support as well, often you can hear that's not the case 😔 it's great that you do have things that you like and yoy can always find Solace in that, I can busy myself in music or organising my movies or indeed even the whole process of making videos is a great way to keep doing the things I enjoy 🤩🤩 half the problem was I didn't fully understand it at all until I saw that TV programme and then things began to make much more sense and the problem seemed to be not so big, although it's still there for sure thanks again Jamie, appreciate you telling me your story and I'm wishing you all the best for your future 😊😊😊😊👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching the video mate 😊😊👍👍just thought the time is right and really pleased with how it turned out and the response I've gotten 👍👍👍 cheers again, really appreciate this comment 😊😊😊👍👍👍
Cheers Mark, I can imagine that could cause Anxiety and I have a few friends who do stutter, are you drawn to people who don't comment or help you along with your words? I found that my mates seem to chat to me more as I didn't have any judgement on it, hard thing to explain, hope you understand what I mean Mark 🤔👍 thanks for sharing this mate 😊😊👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies The people I know like family etc, I even stutter with them but they have accepted it. Speaking on the phone & talking to strangers is the hardest so you would be correct in I would avoid people who would help me get my words out.
@@MondoChelloveckMovies i did try speach therapy but unfortunately they told me to do tasks like speak on the phone which I couldn't do. I have autism too whuch makes it even more difficult.
Hmm that's not great is it as I know that it's a thing to face the problem but I feel that they could have supported you better with breathing techniques 🤔👍👍👍
Thanks Brian, appreciate you watching and it's great that it's doing as well as my usual videos, I think it's connecting with people which is great 😊😊 thanks again mate 🤩🤩👍👍
Hi John Another good video which relates to lots of people out there, I often have them hot flushes and can be very anxious of situations myself and totally get where you're coming from mate. I must say on you're videos you come across very confident and in charge, just goes to show its not all what it seems sometimes. On a sad note though its disappointing if i ever bump into you in Hmv you probably wont want a chat i know monkey quite well at metro and often have abit crack with him. Best wishes Dave.
Hi Dave, on a video you can almost be a different person, I don't mean not yourself but you can edit out the mistakes and ermmmmms so you can seem more adept 😳🤩 if you ever see me in the Metro Centre please do come up and chat, ive met 4 people now and (yeah been a bit surprised) but it's been great (after the first minute or so) 😊 it's something that I enjoy I've got to say, but please do come over Dave, it's funny how many people are in the North East who watch the channel 😁😁😁 yeah Stevens a great lad, chatted to him for many years in HMV 🤩 thanks again Dave 😊😊😊👌👌👌
@@MondoChelloveckMoviesCheers for the reply, pleased you've had a positive response to you're video, no doubt i will catch up with Steven next week as there's a fair bit out to buy next week, drive 4k,untouchables 4k, and walter hills extreme measures, another wallet buster lol, I also followed you're shelf building video and completed a cd version in an alcove bit in a bedroom, the wife's astonished it hasn't fell off yet lol, I decided to start small before attempting the blu ray version like yours. I have to say its pretty amazing how much space you can save, im old school like you and kept loads of stuff. Cheers Dave.
Another great video John, from your presentation style you would never think that you suffered from social anxiety. I guess I didn't give you a chance to get too anxious when I ambushed you in CEX 😉 I still don't think you went red😆
Great to hear from you mate, glad we had that chat in CEX 🤩 haha wouldn't call it an ambush mate! 🤣🤣 but I didn't expect you to know me, but what you said was brilliant! Was buzzing from that 😊😊 I'll be mentioning it on a video for sure 🤩🤩👍👍
I understand what you're going through, as I have experienced social anxiety for many, many years. Since joining a few social and walking groups on Facebook, Nextdoor, and Meetup, I've tried to fit in with a couple of these groups. However, there is always a catch or compromise, as these groups can be quite or very judgmental. They often expect you to align with their cliques, which I find annoying because I dislike favouritism. It can make you feel like the odd one out or merely part of the background at their social events. Unfortunately, several snooty/two-faced/toffee-nosed/uncaring organisers in these groups have given me the bullet because they felt my personality didn't align with their 'values' or 'policies'; yeah, if the face doesn't fit.
Great video. Can totally relate to your experiences. Long time viewer of your channel - not sure if I have commented before but I do watch all your content and enjoy it very much. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing this.
Cheers CarBootMania, I think you have commented before, I'm sure I remember your great channel name 😊 I'm finding these things are much more common than I thought (which is VERY comforting in a way 😊) thanks for watching the channel and for this great comment mate 😊😊👍👍
I'm so glad you've done this video John, so many things I can and do relate to. I've messaged you anyway - well done mate, you've done a fantastic job 👍🙂
Great video John, you didn’t go red when we met you but can understand you feeling like you might have. We’ve got a lot in common actually, none of the band drinks either and 3 of us are veggies like you haha. Apparently Kelvin’s Nana used to work in the Findus factory that burned down as well, she’s called Pam Banks, not sure if you knew her
Cheers Rob, I felt anxious at first but it went as we were chatting, was great to see you and I see you are playing some gigs in North Shields, hope to get across to watch you 🤞🤞 yeah spoke with Kelvin and I knew his Gran very well, had many chats with her and she used to live a stones throw away from me! Mad eh 😲😲😊😊 cheers Rob 🤩🤩
@@MondoChelloveckMovies Cheers, yeah would be great to see you at a gig, always a good atmosphere at The Magnesia Bank in North Shields. And yes so I hear, very small world!
I was showing "wheres my ladders" Michael your videos today and he really liked what he heard!! So we might be rocking up together 😁😁👍👍 yeah I knew I knew Pam, just needed the picture to clarify 🤩🤩
Hi John, I Just wanted to say that was a great video, and I would have never thought of you to be socially anxious as your videos are great, though you don't seem to have live filmed Blu-ray hunts etc. I just thought that's how you are doing your videos which was no problem as plenty of other UA-camrs do videos in the way you do. I also wanted to say I have suffered from some of the things you have, hated public speaking, was usually awkward when meeting new people. It is better than it was though (maybe it was because I am an only child like yourself). It probably does happen to those confident people but they wouldn't admit to it, so it definitely is common place. I didn't manage to see your video until today due to having a jam packed week, but I might have missed that Rhod Gilbert was socially anxious but it does ring a bell with me so I will have to try and find that footage our. Anyway I'm more clued up on it as I have been watching a Japanese Anime series on Netflix about this topic, called Komi can't Communicate in which Komi (a High/Secondary Schoolgirl) has a very severe form of this and cannot speak to people in any social situation at all at first, so has to write down what she wants to say to people which isn't always easy at certain times, she does really want to make friends with her classmates and others though and this is a big stumbling block to that. Eventually (as I'm quite far into the series now), she does seem to be slowly learning to manage it as she gets a mobile phone so she can text, then eventually talks to people especially the boy who was her first friend in her quest to get 100 friends. In the latest episode she actually speaks a lot to him on the phone even though she is standing around the corner from him as they've walked most of the way home together. It's funny, charming and totally bonkers like a lot of the Anime shows can be, but it has a great heart and brilliant message, as in every episode it says that people who are socially anxious do want to make friends or have polite interactions with people, it's just they find it difficult to do so. Obviously Komi is extremely socially anxious but like yourself said there are different levels and manifestations of this condition. Check out that series if you can, but don't worry if you hate Anime, I just wanted to point it out. Carry on your great videos and don't try and overthink your social situations too much, if you can as you definitely don't come over that way on UA-cam, but I'm glad you made it anyway.
Cheers for this great comment mate 😊😊👍👍 on a video you can appear a certain way I think, it's great to be able to edit out the mistakes and make yourself look like a more competent speaker for instance 🤔 I like to get footage put and about but it took me a long time to be confident to film in shops 😬😁 that show sounds great actually, I like watching things about social anxiety but there's not a huge lot around (you think there would be) 🤔 I do like anime although funnily enough I don't own any 🤯😳🤣 how do you access that show mate? Thanks for this supportive message, the response to this video has been amazing 😁😁😁👍🏻👍👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies Thanks for the great response John, I know it was a bit long winded but had to get it down. That show (Komi can't Communicate) is on Netflix here in the UK if you subscribe to it (bloody dear enough, isn't it?) That might be the only way to do so, some of their normal (live action) series do come out on physical media, not too sure about the anime ones though. I myself don't own a lot of Anime on physical media myself but I do have Spirited Away & Steamboy on DVD (I will eventually get around to replacing those with Blu-rays), and recently got Perfect Blue on sale at HMV for nearly half price to replace my DVD copy and also bought the Cowboy Bebop series for half-price (then realised it was on Amazon and now Netflix, maybe it's moved over from Amazon, not checked though). I don't buy many Anime series as they are so dear (Cowboy Bebop was £50, at HMV's original price). Anyway thanks once again for the response and look forward to seeing your future videos (I must subscribe to your channel, but just need to trim down my subscribed list as got far too many I don't watch anymore or that have stopped putting stuff on their channels, you do appear in my feed list though, but will definitely Subscribe to the channel.)
Cheers S1ddo appreciate that 🤩🤩 I've got Netflix so it's great that this show is on there! I'll definitely check it out!! Thanks for the recommendation 😊😊 I'm sure I've seen perfect blue, and of course Akira was one I saw way back! Just sort of dropped away from that genre for some reason 🤔 I remember loving Battle of the Planets back in the day 😁😁 thanks again and its great to know I can access this and maybe more on Netflix, never even thought about checking Anime on there!! 😵💫🤩🤩👍👍
Hi John. I think it's great that you talk about things like this. I've had a similar thing in the past but not always. Things like I hate walking into a party if loads of people are there, no problem with loads of people being there but I'd rather be there early so they come in when I'm already there. You don't need to apologize though but good that you talk about it. It's funny because I don't mind bumping into people but get a bit anxious going to meet people I haven't seen for a while or I got an event that I know someone I know is going to be there. It's strange but it's probley more common that we think. I also don't drink alcohol ( have the odd one now and then but very rare) so I get the same problem when I go out with mates. I'm always the one sneaking off early. Hey if you'd like to add me on Facebook feel free ( I'd understand if you want to keep that to close friends ) I could show you pics of my Evil dead collection on there. My name is Michael witchy. Anyway take care and I look forward to your next vid as always
Hey Michael thanks for this great comment mate 😊😊 yeah parties are difficult as everyone watches you walk in don't they 😳😳 I think as I haven't been for a get together for many many years, it's a bigger thing in my mind 🤯🤯 your right about not drinking and when the party gets a bit leary, it's not very interesting to someone stone cold sober 🥴🥴 yeah that's no problem about Facebook, i don't go on often mare, more of an Instagram man myself 😊😊 thanks again Michael appreciate all your support of the channel and look forward to seeing the pics mate 😊😊👍👍
Great video John which I'm sure wasn't easy to make. Thanks for sharing.
It's great when someone who puts themselve out there on UA-cam discusses this.

Great job John,
Few similar elements here from me mate, u might have seen me mention in my video about why I started youtube, I very briefly mentioned that I'm not very social myself in real life, (very often prefer to not do something and stay home, bit less now I'm older)
While for me I don't seem to go red, however I do very much feel very uncomfortable in large group's or get togethers.
Being a person who suffered in the past and still suffers from social anxiety today,
mainly because i spend much of my childhood and youth being bullied, i know
from experience that this is a very rough thing to live with.
And believe it or not, being a movie critic & finding this community, being able to share
my passion of films (science fiction, horror, fantasy, western etc) tv, comic books, music etc
actually helps me a lot and gives me a lot of satisfaction.
You don't have 2K followers for your good looks you know 😉 😁
People have an ability to work out and understand why you ignore them and they just leave you be.
Keep doing what you do John, it's why we keep coming back to your videos.....and you looks 😍
Trevor
I'm off all next week (between jobs) so I'm sure we can arrange a time between us some how 😆
Speak to you soon fella.
Trev
@@doublebillmovies yeah Facebook or WhatsApp would work for me Trev 🤩🤩 yeah next week would be great mate 😁😁😁👍👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies I'll email you.
Nice one Trev 😁😁👍👍
Great to hear Mark, it's always good to hear when someone overcomes these things mate 😊😊🤩🤩👍👍
@@MondoChelloveckMovies 😄 brilliant memory you John 🤣

Great video John. I can totally relate, your not alone bud.
Many thanks AP 🤩🤩👍👍 yeah its getting a great reaction and its a lot more common than you think isn't it 🤔 cheers mate 🤩🤩👍👍
John, just caught up with this. Great video. Full of admiration for your no nonsense approach and straightforward attitude.
Thanks for watching the video mate 😊😊👍👍just thought the time is right and really pleased with how it turned out and the response I've gotten 👍👍👍 cheers again, really appreciate this comment 😊😊😊👍👍👍
Hi John, Thanks for sharing you're story. I have a stutter which gives me anxiety & I avoid speaking to people if I can.
Your family are great and will always support you 😊😊 have you tried speech therapy, like Gareth Gates attended and also now teaches? 😊😊👍👍
Totally relate, a very interesting , and obviously very different video.
Thanks Brian, appreciate you watching and it's great that it's doing as well as my usual videos, I think it's connecting with people which is great 😊😊 thanks again mate 🤩🤩👍👍
Hi John
Another good video which relates to lots of people out there, I often have them hot flushes and can be very anxious of situations myself and totally get where you're coming from mate.
Fantastic video John, so relatable, thanks for sharing your experience...!!!
Thanks for watching Darrell 😊😊 so glad I made the video, the response has been amazing 🤩🤩👍👍
Good video, John. Nice to see the topic covered. All the best, mate.
Cheers Nick, I'm really glad I made this video and it's helping me a lot mate!! Cheers again 😊😊👍👍
Cheers Nige, yeah appreciate you watching this video and your great message mate!! Helps a lot bud 😊😊🤘🤘
@@MondoChelloveckMovies Great to hear haha, would be good to see him too
@@robgray1999 yeah but you'll have to turn the levels up as he will drown you out with his gob 🥴🤣🤣
Hey John I know how ya feel...... think most of us have some social anxiety.
Thanks for sharing 👍
Cheers Roy, its amazing to know that its expirenced by many more people than I would have ever thought!!! Thanks for watching mate 🤩🤩👍👍
I wouldn't mind talking further on this subject on Facebook
Yeah Dan, on messenger or video call? 🤩🤩👍👍
