    received a sling the other day and housed it seems fine, then I notice it doesn't move for 3 days, give it a brush and its completely stiff. hearing you say they are bulletproof killed me a little inside qq

    • @TheTarantulaCave
      @TheTarantulaCave  4 роки тому +1

      Aw, sorry to hear that. Sometimes slings just die for no reason, or something that happened in shipping. I would try again and just make sure it has a bottle cap water dish that is kept full.

    Ok I gotta ask you this.....what does one do with 800 spiderlings?
    How do you know if they all ate?
    Are they kept communally at this size?

    So so helpful! I have 10 year old Chilean Rose Hair I rescued years ago. I want a more tropical species that does not need heat. I have been making bioterrariums for my crested geckos and would love to make one for a tarantula. I am already gathering what I need for my rose hair bio with aloes and succulents.
    I was just looking at getting a year old sling of this species and it is nice to know of other food options than the fruit flies.
    I am looking into making a homemade mash for the fruitflies to keep a more endless supply since I am learning the slings can be slow growers.
    Luckily I also have access to extra small mealworms as well and am game to cutting them up when necessary.
    Will they burrow after their food or do they only go for it on top of the substrate?
    Any experience with using soldier fly larva for tarantulas?

    • @TheTarantulaCave
      @TheTarantulaCave  4 роки тому +1

      +Helga thanks for taking the time to comment. Glad you found it helpful. In my experience this species won’t burrow for food, so best to feed out in the open and make sure any food that isn’t eaten gets removed to avoid potential damage to your tarantula from the prey. I have never used soldier fly larvae, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t be a suitable food for them.

    You should breed yourself some Alphitobius diaperinus or the lesser mealworm larvae to avoid the hassles of sorting out large mealworms in your mealworm farm. I pretty much just pluck out my lesser mealworm larvae out of my roach bins because they too are used as a cleaner crew inside feeder roach bins to eat uneaten foods or, to eat those dead roaches who died of old age in well hidden spots in roach bins lessening the smell.

      Hi thanks for the comment. My female did go on to produce an egg sac but sadly she abandoned it and the egg never hatched. Sorry I can't be more helpful than that.

  • @ibnsarachnids9175
    @ibnsarachnids9175 4 роки тому

    Well now I know why my female is putting up a dirt curtain. Not enough humidity, but I have a humidity gauge in the enclosure and I don't let it get below 70°humidity. She has been digging a hole like Gar's did but has not produced an eggsac yet. Would it be advisable to rehouse her or just maintain the humidity levels? Secondly I really would like to have a successful eggsac if I can salvage the conditions. This enclosure was used to transport her to the male and I just never rehoused her after she came back home. Any advice from the two of you.. I know Gar and have received advice from him in the past. This is my first time asking you. So please help my Sazimai female Onyx is such an amazing T. Take care and I'll be in touch after my hip replacement surgery tomorrow. Ibnsarachnids aka Rob

    • @TheTarantulaCave
      @TheTarantulaCave  4 роки тому

      Without seeing the enclosure it’s hard to give you any advice, but if you have deeper substrate and keep part of it moist to keep the humidity up then you will probably be ok.
