I never thought about them not being beginner friendly. I got it as a freebie from Tom Patterson when I got the Chinese trap door. Have already rehoused it twice without knowing that they aren't beginner friendly. Now it's stuck in my head
Hi, Tina! They tend to go through a VERY defensive stage. At one point, my two were the most defensive spiders in my collection. They have since calmed down, though.
Hi Tom. My 1st tragedy happened. I picked up 3 spiders from fear not and they were great. My 4th was my freebie a P. Sazimai sling that was one of the smallest spiders I've ever seen. I've had her for a couple of weeks and noticed mold growing in her vial so I pulled her out pulled out the infected moss and but her back in with a little spritz of water. Couldn't find hff er in the vial so I freaked out and started pulling the substrate out. Tom I squished her. My fumbling foolish digging killed my spider. My heart hurts so bad. I'm so sorry to drop this on you but I had to tell someone. I found h er r little broken body 5his morning and it tore my heart apart. I think I'll avoid tiny tiny slings for a while. I guess I wasn't ready. All my juveniles and other slings are thriving. Sorry to pour my heart out I just felt I needed to get it out. Have a good day bud.
Hello, Erik! I'm so very sorry to hear about this. Accidents happen; I think that we've ALL had moments where we've done something that has put a spider at risk of death. In some cases, we get lucky and the spider lives. In others, we aren't so fortunate. God knows that I've had some super close calls myself, and only luck saved the poor spider. Try not to let it get to you and instead look for lessons you can use in the future.
Hey Tom just wanted to update and thank you. I'm the one who accidentally killed my tiny P. Sazimai sling. It really shook me, but I sat back and thought about my collection and how well it's doing I have 17 spooders and they're all eating and molting( the temps went up and everyone popped they're zippers) except my P. Irminia but they pulled her molt out when I bought her. My confidence grew. I'm the kinda guy who gets up dusts himself off and gets back on the horse. So I got another sling and she's doing great. She even molted once though you couldn't tell. I think she got smaller😂. Thank you for your kind words and support. Your videos and podcast have inspired me to try things I wouldn't have and take big steps in the hobby because you have me the confidence to take them. Thank you so much and have a great day.
I enjoyed the part where the T tried to grab your tongs and I could hear Billy laughing at you in the background :,) hahaha thanks for all the solid info you put out!
I hate it when the tarantula's get all worked up and start throwing gang signs at me like that one did...Seriously though that is a gorgeous set up, and a beautiful if not completely co-operative spider. Thank you both for the time and information!
Those are pretty enclosures. Will make your spiders look even prettier. Wow,that was a big " hands up" . oddly our Sazi is skittish, but has never done that ,she is one of those that bolts when she notices you standing in front of the enclosure
Hi, Jane! Thanks so much. Yeah, both of mine went through a bratty period. although they've honestly calmed down a great deal. They used to flip onto their backs while posing! :)
My P. sazimai young female is a sweetheart. No threat postures, no skittishness, no hair kicking. I also have two unsexed juveniles, they are a little bit skittish but they never burrow. They are like rocks until a roach comes by, they eat like champs.

Tom, love the videos, I've only been in the hobby a couple of months, but you were a big inspiration for me, jumped in a bit in the deep end and got a P.Cambrigaei for one of my first, set her up in a bioactive enclosure. She's doing great though, thanks for the great videos, very helpful.
As long as your prepared for the speed and some potential defensiveness. the cambridgei is a hardy, fast growing spider that has some good beginner qualities. :) Mine is just gorgeous, and rather laid back. So glad to hear things are going well with you. Thanks!
@@TomsBigSpiders I absolutely will check it out. I had my eye on this species for a little while now. I had some other favorites I wanted to acquire first. Tom thanks again for taking the time to make the video!
Hi Tom thanks for another great video didn't know id be watching this today but after getting home from work and my 2 son's have got me a P sazimai sling and a M robustum sling very happy dad right now.
Congrats on your P. sazimai and M. robustum slings...that's awesome! I have an M. robustum husbandry video coming out very soon... :) What a great gift!
Tom Moran I agree! So...I was reading about the Brazilian black Grammostola pulchra and I thought I was reading about the Skeleton Leg Ephepobus murinus. We came home with the Skeleton Leg! Oops! I’m such a beginner I was like wtf just happened?!?! 🤣🤣🤣 My husband said we’ll be fine. Oh boy! It’s big too, about 5”!
Thank u for another great video. I have one of these in my collecting and u are so right regarding the threat poses! Actually, it's almost comical at times. I agree, these are not for a beginner. I've been looking after Ts x 24 years .... it's always amazing how fast this one on particular can be... it's certainly not afraid to stand it's ground. Definitely a no-finger enclosure. Mine actually arrived with 7 legs... couple molts later it was an 8 legged spider. Beautiful blue coloring...🙂🕷
Hi, Ann! Thank YOU for watching and taking the time to comment. :) Yeah, apparently these are recommended as beginners in Europe? That's what someone was just telling me. In my experienced, they can be very defensive at a certain age. Thanks for chiming in!
I got one of these as my first tarantula last September as a 1cm sling. Shes molted twice times since then and has more than doubled in size since she arrived. Shes very relaxed at the moment and will sit at the entrance of her burrow even when I open the lid, so itll be interesting to see how her personality changes with age.
That's fantastic! My two grew very slowly overall. :) Both went through a VERY defensive stage when they hit around 4". LOTS of bolting and threat postures. They both outgrew it, though.
Tom coming with the education and entertainment. A+ per usual. Always a joy to get a new vid from you, man. Edit: recently got an Dolomedes Albineus who is now in its 3rd/4th molt. I’m starting out small. Next up is going to be my first T. I’m going for a couple GBBs. Thank you sincerely for all the information. You’ve opened my eyes to a whole new world of pet keeping. I don’t regret a single bit jumping down this rabbit hole.
Yo Tom awesome video as always. I just think it is so cool that 10 years ago or so I was reading about these guys and drooling at how cool this all blue species of Tarantula is out there in Brazil. Fast forward to today I have one of these guys in my collection. Super cool Tarantula, thanks for the great info man.
Hi Tom, . Wonderful video as always, thank you, I've just ordered a juvi which will arrive in a couple of days and I'm so excited. Your girl is stunning! Thanks for all the useful information😊
Something interesting about this species is how different they are described from the US to Europe, in Europe they are considered docile, beginner friendly and sold to beginners all the time.
That is quite odd. I wonder why there would be such a difference in behaviors? My two both went through a VERY defensive stage, and now they are just very skittish.
I just received one of these as a freebie with an order it's maybe 1cm big at a push can't wait to see it grow up now though 😊 it's my first t with 'tude 😄 my other t's are all chilled species. 🙂 love the enclosure BTW 😊
@@TomsBigSpiders she (🤞) arrived on Thursday about 2cm along with a b.albiceps, n.chromatus and l.parahybana (less than a cm and threw a tiny threat posture 😂)
Human: please just go in the cup I made you a new enclosure we need to move you Spider: WHAT? Me? Go in a cup? Are you crazy? I refuse ~~2 minutes later~~ Human: please just come out of the cup this is your new enclosure Spider: WHAT? Me? Leave this cup? Are you crazy? I refuse etc etc but I really like your new enclosures they look so nice I bet the spiders love them too, eventually lol. and P sazimais are beautiful my juvenile just moulted I had a little batch of 5 spiders all moult in the last two days, that one and also my P. gigas, E. olivacea, T. violaceus and C. elegans (I nearly messed up the C elegans oops but it was ok in the end) all just moulted :) edit - i got my Encyocratellas name wrong lol and my A. purpurea just moulted too yay 6 new spiders in 3 days 😵
Bahahahahahaha! That pretty much sums it up! lol I'm absolutely loving the bioactive enclosures. My only issue now is that I want ALL of my spiders in one. haha Wow...that's a lot of molts! It always amazes me when a bunch molt at the same time. :) Thanks again!
Sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know a tool to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid forgot the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
@Kylo Callum thanks so much for your reply. I found the site on google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Thank you for the info on this T! I have a sling and there’s not much info out there about these, I always look to your channel when I need info on something you’re so informative and genuine. I truly enjoy your educational vids thanks Tom! 😊
Tom I adore blue T's. They are beautiful. Like birds there are not that many that are blue. I am still fearful of Poci's but love to watch you do your thing so calmly. Thank you. JJ:)
The great thing about exo enclosures Tom is that your DON'T have to remove the mesh. There's a recess that allows you to silicone in a perspex sheet. Quick and allows you to remove the sheet if you want to house something like a mantis.
Tom Moran on the underside. It's been a while but I made a video on it. Not the best but shows things. If you're ok with it I'll post a link to your reply.
Oh good! Proper info on these guys! Thanks for the links, Mister Moran! :) I'm getting five of these soon. You're the bomb! I love that attitude yours has!
Great habitat. You're using my favorite plants. I love passing my pothos back and forth between moisture appreciating tarantulas and my aquarium filters, where they root and suck out nitrites nitrate and ammonia.
Hi Tom love your videos, for people new to the hobby your knowledge and experience is really helpful. Beautiful t and what a amazing new home she has too. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Nice video. Nice setup too. My girl is maybe 4 years old amd doing we. Like you, I have found them to be skittish amd flight, even throwing threat-poses, but nothing bad at all. Even had a male throwing a threat-pose in hand. I have found that light coming from the direction of the camera works best for lighting. Light opposing the camera seems to actually erase the blues. My cell phone captures it best (some vids on my channel).
Hello, Scott! Mine are finally calming down with the threat poses, but they are still quite skittish. Sure are pretty though! And I'll definitely check yours out...thanks! Tom
I had a wonderful 8th grade teacher. Very cool for the early 60's. My 7th grade teacher was from the nether regions of Dante's hell. I wish I had a teacher like you for 7th grade but in those days teachers, especially in WI had large sticks up their backs. You must be an amazing teacher. Hi Billie!!
Awwww...thanks so much, Joyce! I had some amazing teachers...and some, shall we say, less than amazing teachers growing up. I tried to model myself after the ones who I loved. It's sad, because these videos are in NO way representative of my teaching style. My students that watch them ask why I'm so stiff and boring. I'm much more high-energy and "fun" in real life. haha.
@@TomsBigSpiders But I believe some of that fun is being sent to the kids too. They know who is good beneath the surface and who is not. The guy I spoke of today would be arrested for child abuse. But back then it was not uncommon for teachers to use all manner of corporal punishment. He did until some kids passed out. Why I know you are a much better teacher. Like my 8th grade teacher. He wore a navy blue suit and tie everyday but was so open and taught so well he made me feel smarter.
Hi Tom, i have 2 of these , love these guys. hope you are doing good haven't been on much started a new job so i am out of town alot, but i catch your videos when i can. thanks for what you do to help us.
Tim! GREAT to hear from you! How are you liking the new job? I love mine as well. Just such spunky and pretty spiders. Hope all is well... and thanks!!!

LOL, I love your videos so much Tom. My nerves are on edge because of all the craziness everywhere and I watch you and Billie to calm me. I have a P. Sazimai sling coming tomorrow. It was offered as a freebie and I'm always happy to add to my New World collection since I don't do Old World but OMG...I have two GBBs that are doing well and growing. I hope I can handle this. Please shoot me an email for comfort or support. I rely on you more than you could ever know. Love you guys very much.
Thank you so much, Tina!!! :) Congrats on you P. sazimai sling...that's an awesome species. :) I'm sure that you'll do just fine with yours. Give it some room to dig and some moisture, and it will do great. :)
I've got 5 tiny sazimai slings that seem extremely slow growing lol. Hoping they put on size eventually and gain some color because they're beautiful at the size of the ones you have. Really nice enclosures you setup as well.
Her colours are amazing, if that's what they look like dull I'd have to put sunglasses on for the post-molt colour! Recently got a tiny sling of these, it's my intro (along with a more grown-on p. cancerides) to more grumpy spiders. That was supposed to be my n. chromatus' job but it seems like I've got the only t with anxiety, she's a pussycat even with her food!
"Tom, Tom, Tom, Tom, Tom, Moran Tom, Tom, Tom, Tom, Tom, Moran Tom Mor-raaa-an He doesn't hold spiders in his haa-a-ands Tom Mor-raaa-an Cause he doesn't want get bit, Drop the spider, And that would be the end Tom, Tom, Tom, Tom, Tom, Moran" ---The Other Beach Boys
I used to keep a male sazimai for a while. All he did was do a threat pose but he was still pretty docile. Used to let him crawl on me (which is not recommended.) Good eater and a beautiful T regardless of sex.
I have a nhandu tripepii about the size of a full grown rat that lives in a planted tank. She's a bit on the huffy side when disturbed, prone to charging w/fangs drawn, and it sure makes pruning an adventure! It's like swimming with sharks... :-/
@@TomsBigSpiders Have you ever considered keeping brown recluses? I've found them to be pretty easy to care for and they are quite timid overall, plus they are pretty hardy and resilient little buggers. Also I've noticed in the wild that it isn't uncommon for multiple specimens to inhabit the same area so I wonder if they could be housed communally in captivity?
Thanks for the video as always! I picked up one of these recently, about 2-3 inches. I'm terrible at ventral sexing, but it looked female so fingers crossed!
Amazing rehouse Tom, I really enjoyed this one! I just ordered my 3rd tarantula it’s a “chilobrachys dyscolus blue” from Jamie’s tarantulas and I’m pretty happy about it! I may think about getting this one too, I love that iridescent blue on her.
Hey Tom, love the video (and the hair!) I've definitely seen the same things you have reported here. I truly hate to poo-poo a species but I really just want to share my experiences with you. This was a species I wanted to keep from very early on and was one of the first slings I got. I have raised 4 up to mature males (except the most recent one, I was so done with him I sent him to my buddy to raise cause clearly I'm doing something wrong with these guys). I do not like to use the word aggressive when referring to animals and especially not with spiders, but if there's any spider that deserves it, in my albeit limited experience with only 4 specimens, this is it. My first 3 were nuts and would throw up threat postures so hard they would fall over on their backs and just lay there, which was cute but also made me feel bad, like, dude why are you so unhappy? They all had plenty of room and depth, burrows, plenty of foliage, etc. where they could hide adequately. After my last specimen I've honestly given up on this species because I'm clearly doing something wrong that is making them act this way and I've made every possible husbandry adjustment and I'm *just not getting it.* I received an immature (about 3 inches) male from a friend who had to rehome and this was hands down the craziest and most (I'm going to use aggressive here because he wasn't defending anything) aggressive spider I've ever encountered. When I opened the enclosure to feed him he would come charging out of the SAFE CONFINES of his burrow, out of the safety of his enclosure, and throw up threat postures, slap, fangs out and venom dripping, and most of the time he'd threat pose so aggressively he'd fall over backwards into his enclosure. Literally just walking in the room caused him to throw up threat poses and half the time I went to check on him he'd come out of his burrow and do laps around the enclosure and end up on his back from threat posing. I like to think I'm a fairly established keeper and a diligent researcher and fast learner. I have no idea what I saw with these sazimai. I'm not sure if it's just because all of them were males and males of any species in my experience tend to be a little more high strung especially as they approach the final moult, but wow. There was no reason for these spiders to leave the safety of their burrows and come out of the enclosure at me. I totally recognise that my experiences don't mean that every L. sazimai is a demon but wow. The majority of my collection is Omothymus/Lampropelma/Phormingochilus/Chilobrachys/Pokies/etc. and I have had zero issues with any of those, but the L sazimai, which I've actually heard recommended as a beginner, is the one that has consistently given me attitude and while it's not scary or anything this species is just clearly not comfortable with whatever setups I've given them and I've tried literally everything. If I'd caught them out in the open and they threat posed, sure, my bad. But this guy came out of his burrow and came at me with the intent to do harm. Basically I've had 4 L. sazimai that act like what everyone says OBTs are, and I have about 20 Old Worlds who I could probably handle if I felt so inclined. I'm so glad you mentioned that they do not make good beginners cause even to someone with experience I frankly wouldn't recommend these (based on my experience). They're gorgeous spiders and super cool but the ones I had really had a massive attitude problem and again this could just be males being males but I'm quite discouraged from keeping them since they appear to be perpetually stressed in my care so I doubt I'll attempt keeping these again. I want to make it clear that I don't hate this species or any spider for that matter I just really want to emphasise how much I really do not believe these are appropriate beginners in any way shape or form. I know they are recommended as beginners overseas so maybe it's something in the air or maybe Europeans are just nuts (I'm Russian so I can confirm the last part :) ) Keep up the awesome work! - Charlotte
Hey, Charlotte! Hahaha Ahhhhhh...the good old days when I HAD hair. haha I don't know if I mentioned it in this video, but both of my female went through a VERY defensive stage where I would get threat postures any time I opened up their enclosures. I think that it probably started around the 3" mark, and lasted for several years. The one in this video calmed down after a few molts (and honestly, seemed much more calm in this enclosure). The other finally did as well. I've had folks say that these are a good beginner species, but I always caution folks that they can be quite a handful. Honestly, I think that my two, at one point, were the most defensive spiders that I have ever kept. Thanks for chiming in with your experiences, as they mirror mine!
my bio professors friend has a trantula in her classroom and it has a screen top and it got it's claw stuck on the csreen so i had to help it out lol. i love t's and so does my bf
Would love an update on the chromatopelma cyaneopubescens. I have a sling that I want to place into an enclosure like this when it matures. I'm really curious as to how the moisture affects the T and how the plants deal with less watering.
I'll be doing the update video very soon. So far, she doing great. I water the plants at their bases so that the majority of the substrate stays bone dry. The plants are still doing well despite the fact that she has webbed the snot out of the enclosure. :)
@@TomsBigSpiders thanks for the reply. I'll have to keep that in mind when I do my own. I plan on uploading a few videos of my own once my collection gets a little bigger. I'll make sure to share the link so you can see. Also, I plan on crediting most (if not all) of the information I've gained from you. Dont think you would mind, but I figured I would let you know. Your channel has helped me, and I want to pass that on to any potential subscribers I may get.
Hi, Michael! I literally just did an entire podcast on tarantula stress and spoke about stress during rehousing. Long story short, they get over it quite quickly. A few extra moments of soft prodding really isn't going to have a lingering impact.
Black thumb issue, Tom? Is that because you chew on them? (giggling over here) We all have our bad habits. Yours is a common one within my house too! As for the spider.... *cough* Was out of the T world for about a decade (life happens, moved 1300 miles for a mostly restart at life), so what do we get within 2 weeks of our first T's? A P. sazimai 1" sling of course! Little freak flips out anytime I do anything with it's 32oz container. *just* molted yesterday, so I can hardly wait to see if it's calmed down a little and will eat for me in the next few days. Let me just say I'm super happy I put it in a 32 ounce instead of the 16oz my husband attempted to put the sling in!
Bahahahahaha! That probably has a lot to do with it. I poison the soil with my blood. lol I'm high energy and high anxiety, so I always chew the heck out of them. I don't think about it too much until I see them on video. lol Bahahaha Those little sazimais are bonkers. lol Yeah, they can definitely do with some more room. Mine are FINALLY calming down a bit now that they are adults. :) Thanks again, and so sorry for the delay!
Beautiful tarantula, I never realised they were so ready to throw threat postures up. How did you manage to keep that Fitonia alive?, I haven't managed one yet, in any Spider enclosures or my Gecko enclosures
Mine went through a stage for about 2 years where they threat postured everything...me, food, their reflection. lol. They would sometimes fall over onto their backs, too. Dude, I have NO idea about the fitonia! haha I already killed two of them, but this one is doing great. I honestly can't figure out what I did differently! haha
Crud...I usually do. Sorry! Slings I fed one item twice a week. Juveniles got a med-large cricket once a week. The adults now get 2-3 large crickets once a week or so.
Hi Tom! I like your videos. I just want to ask where you get your plastic terrariums from, because I really like them and I see them as more practical than glass terrariums, and it's cheaper than, but I couldn't find them anywhere. Thanks in advance for telling me! 😊
Hello! I use a variety of plastic ones, so I get them from quite a few places. Many of my acrylic enclosures come from Primal Cages (who are, unfortunately, taking a break right now). You can find similar ones at Tarantula Cribs. I also use enclosures from Lorex Plastics for some of my larger spiders. You can find their eBay store here: www.ebay.com/str/lorexplastics. I hope that helps!
oh wow i just found out smth funny. Ive always called these sazzi-may to, I thought they mustve been discovered by a spider scientist called Sazimai. but no they were described by a Mr Sazima, so their name is sazima-i, like smithi for the Brachypelmas. so I suppose youd have to say it sazima-ee?
I've given up trying to pronounce the scientific names correctly. hahaha. The problem is, they are not really created to be spoken. I've received over a dozen ways to pronounce B. boemei, with everyone saying they know Latin. It's maddening sometimes! haha

As long as your prepared for the speed and some potential defensiveness. the cambridgei is a hardy, fast growing spider that has some good beginner qualities. :) Mine is just gorgeous, and rather laid back. So glad to hear things are going well with you. Thanks!
That's one cool looking Tarantula
Thank you! :)
Got one of these too in my mystery box 💙
That's awesome, Sandra!
No ur right there ,an if they are super fast ,but love the way they look ,just beautiful,
They sure are!
Literally just purchased this sling 1 hour ago at my local store! Another great video!
Hi, Mike...that's awesome! Great timing! I included links to the older videos after this one if you want to see how I kept them as slings. Congrats!
@@TomsBigSpiders I absolutely will check it out. I had my eye on this species for a little while now. I had some other favorites I wanted to acquire first. Tom thanks again for taking the time to make the video!
Nice blue colors.
Thank you, Leo!
What a beautiful spider! Her new house looks terrific too!
Thank you, Toni! :)
She’s gorgeous! She looks really nice with the plants
Thanks, Laurel! I love the shot of her with the plants. :)
Tom Moran
I agree!
Definitely a
no-finger enclosure.
I just got one this weekend as my first T and it was labeled as a beginner. I'm in the US. 😅 just going to be extra careful and mindful!
Beautiful spider and enclosure! She behaved very well also.
She really did. And thank you!
Thank you so much, Dylan! I really appreciate it.
And that's a great way to start. Before you know it, you'll have dozens. :)
They are such a cool species, and the blue is just awesome. Thanks so much!
A beautiful enclosure for a beautiful spider. All your spiders in the intro are so gorgeous!
Thank you so much! :)
Hi Tom, . Wonderful video as always, thank you, I've just ordered a juvi which will arrive in a couple of days and I'm so excited. Your girl is stunning! Thanks for all the useful information😊
Congrats on getting one, Natalie! :) And thank you!
Hi, Charlene! I love these little guys. It should be a quite a while until you see some of that bratty behavior. Thanks so much! :)
Nice shirt!🤘 I had a sazimai as my second T - he will even threat-pose his food as it struggles on his fangs 😂😂 Frustratingly slow-growing though 😭
Ha! Thank you!
Bahaha. Mine both went through a jerk phase. haha. They were constantly tossing up the legs. lol
Beautiful T & enclosure. Mine is a sling but can’t wait till it’s older. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much! It shouldn't be long until yours starts showing the blues. :)
Have 1 coming in my first sling order 💯🔥 great video!
That's awesome...congrats!
@@TomsBigSpiders she (🤞) arrived on Thursday about 2cm along with a b.albiceps, n.chromatus and l.parahybana (less than a cm and threw a tiny threat posture 😂)
Human: please just go in the cup I made you a new enclosure we need to move you
Spider: WHAT? Me? Go in a cup? Are you crazy? I refuse
~~2 minutes later~~
Human: please just come out of the cup this is your new enclosure
Spider: WHAT? Me? Leave this cup? Are you crazy? I refuse
etc etc
but I really like your new enclosures they look so nice I bet the spiders love them too, eventually lol. and P sazimais are beautiful my juvenile just moulted I had a little batch of 5 spiders all moult in the last two days, that one and also my P. gigas, E. olivacea, T. violaceus and C. elegans (I nearly messed up the C elegans oops but it was ok in the end) all just moulted :) edit - i got my Encyocratellas name wrong lol and my A. purpurea just moulted too yay 6 new spiders in 3 days 😵
😆😆😂
Bahahahahahaha! That pretty much sums it up! lol
I'm absolutely loving the bioactive enclosures. My only issue now is that I want ALL of my spiders in one. haha
Wow...that's a lot of molts! It always amazes me when a bunch molt at the same time. :) Thanks again!
Sorry to be offtopic but does any of you know a tool to get back into an Instagram account..?

Great rehouse. Looks very nice.
Thank you, Channy! :)
Yay! Very pretty tarantula. Great enclosure 👍
Thanks so much!
Another awesome rehouse. Beautiful t!
Thanks so much, Beth!
Thank you for the info on this T! I have a sling and there’s not much info out there about these, I always look to your channel when I need info on something you’re so informative and genuine. I truly enjoy your educational vids thanks Tom! 😊
You're most welcome, Dom...glad this was helpful. :)
Tom I adore blue T's. They are beautiful. Like birds there are not that many that are blue. I am still fearful of Poci's but love to watch you do your thing so calmly. Thank you. JJ:)
Hello, Joyce! I was thinking of you when I posted this. :) As always, thanks so much. And Happy Mother's Day!
@@TomsBigSpiders Thanks Tom!!!
The great thing about exo enclosures Tom is that your DON'T have to remove the mesh. There's a recess that allows you to silicone in a perspex sheet. Quick and allows you to remove the sheet if you want to house something like a mantis.
Hey, bud! :) Do you put it on the underside or on top?
Tom Moran on the underside. It's been a while but I made a video on it. Not the best but shows things. If you're ok with it I'll post a link to your reply.
Tom Moran in fact there's no need. Just type Exo Terra lid fix into search and it's the first hit.
Oh good! Proper info on these guys! Thanks for the links, Mister Moran! :) I'm getting five of these soon. You're the bomb! I love that attitude yours has!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
Beautiful enclosure brother
This is one of my favorites. I LOVE the nerve plant. haha Thanks, bud!
Beautiful spider
We can’t wait until our four at that size
Thanks, guys! It shouldn't be too long until they start showing some blue.
Wow I just got one of these guys (a 3/4" sling) a few months ago. Surprisingly not very bolty for me. I can't wait until it gets its beautiful blue!
Mine didn't get really bolty until they hit around 2" or so! :)
As usual, great video. Thanks Tom.
Thank you, Cliff!
Another great video, Tom!
Thank you, David! :)
Great habitat. You're using my favorite plants. I love passing my pothos back and forth between moisture appreciating tarantulas and my aquarium filters, where they root and suck out nitrites nitrate and ammonia.
Thanks, Dovie! I LOVE that fittonia. I'm already picking up some more. And the pothos is a beast. haha. They just do so well in any conditions. :)
I have been waiting for this video after watcjing the bioactive setups....
Sorry for the delay! Thanks so much, bud!
Hi Tom love your videos, for people new to the hobby your knowledge and experience is really helpful. Beautiful t and what a amazing new home she has too. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Thanks for taking the time to comment...and so sorry for the delay!
Excellent. ty.
Thank you, Bonnie! :)
I've learnt so much from your videos. Great educational value and very entertaining
Thank you so much, flash 83! :)
Tom
Really cool video Tom... Lopking forward to the updates coming up.
👍👍👍👍👍
Another awesome enclosure! Great job Tom!
Thanks so much! I'm glad that I finally got someone in this one. haha
Good Idea with the plexiglass mine did get Hung up on the mesh took a while to get free
Yeah, I had it happen to one of mine, too. It's a bit of a pain to replace it, but well worth the effort! :)

What a beauty!
Thank you, Judy!
Nice shirt 🤘🏻
Thank you!
Thanks for the vid. Love it!
Hey, Jodi...Happy Mother's Day! :)
Thank you! Yeah, they really are quite brilliant right after a molt. :)
Hahaha. My N. chromatus is also pretty laid back. :)

I used to keep a male sazimai for a while. All he did was do a threat pose but he was still pretty docile. Used to let him crawl on me (which is not recommended.) Good eater and a beautiful T regardless of sex.
That's awesome! He sounds like a real sweetheart. :) And I agree completely. :)
Lovely enclosure, beautiful spider. What more could you ask for...... ❤️❤️ I'm still deciding which T to get for my first, so hard to choose! 😊
Thank you so much!
Do you know which ones you are considering? :)
I have a nhandu tripepii about the size of a full grown rat that lives in a planted tank. She's a bit on the huffy side when disturbed, prone to charging w/fangs drawn, and it sure makes pruning an adventure! It's like swimming with sharks... :-/
WOW...she sounds like a handful! haha Mine is a little skittish, but she's never been defensive. She's just a weird little ball of fluff. :)
@@TomsBigSpiders Have you ever considered keeping brown recluses? I've found them to be pretty easy to care for and they are quite timid overall, plus they are pretty hardy and resilient little buggers.
Also I've noticed in the wild that it isn't uncommon for multiple specimens to inhabit the same area so I wonder if they could be housed communally in captivity?
in almost 2 years of keeping T's i never had a threat posture, so this one should be perfekt for me :DDDD
Yeah, these guys killed my no threat streak. haha
Thanks for the video as always! I picked up one of these recently, about 2-3 inches. I'm terrible at ventral sexing, but it looked female so fingers crossed!
Congrats! Fingers crossed that you have a lady. :)
Awesome species. They show gorgeous blues when under light. Congrats!

How's it going, Nick? :) Let me know if you pick one up! And thanks so much...I truly appreciate that! :)

Thanks! We're seeing them on the 25th! :)
Tom Moran Have fun!
You, too! I can't wait!
Only just watched this I also have 2 of these but they are such slow growers, I'm yet to experience the bolty/aggressive side yet
Yeah, mine took quite a while to show that blue. Maybe you'll avoid the defensiveness. Mine have calmed down a bit with age.
Hey Tom, love the video (and the hair!)
I've definitely seen the same things you have reported here. I know they are recommended as beginners overseas so maybe it's something in the air or maybe Europeans are just nuts (I'm Russian so I can confirm the last part :) )
Keep up the awesome work!
Ayeee CC
:)
my bio professors friend has a trantula in her classroom and it has a screen top and it got it's claw stuck on the csreen so i had to help it out lol. i love t's and so does my bf
Hello, Avery! Yeah, those screen tops can be deadly for them!
Watching again. Have to rehouse a 2 inch one tonight? Am I still a beginner Tom? You're my teacher. Grade me please 🥺
The lids dont like to sit in there off the bat 😂 my 12x12x24 does the same thing. Super snug but lots-o-noise.
The lids drive me nuts with those things. haha I get so frustrated with them at times! lol
I'll take a threat posture over bolting every day of the week. :)
Hahaha. Indeed!
I wonder if it would be less stressful for them enclosure size permitting to let them come out of the cup on their own.
Hi, Michael! I literally just did an entire podcast on tarantula stress and spoke about stress during rehousing. Long story short, they get over it quite quickly. A few extra moments of soft prodding really isn't going to have a lingering impact.
@@TomsBigSpiders great to know. I will have to check out the podcast.
I don't think about it too much until I see them on video. lol
Bahahaha Those little sazimais are bonkers. lol Yeah, they can definitely do with some more room.
I honestly can't figure out what I did differently! haha
1 Face has not ! a sexy Sazimai 😄
Indeed!
Its not sassy it just dont wanna play with everyone ❤
Indeed!
Can you add feedings. Like at this size she eats 5 crickets or a roach.
Crud...I usually do. Sorry! Slings I fed one item twice a week. Juveniles got a med-large cricket once a week. The adults now get 2-3 large crickets once a week or so.

You sure do... :)
Good video, did the plexiglass come with the tank?
Thank you! No, I pulled out the screen and replaced it with drilled plexiglas. It's a bit of a pain in the glas, but well worth it.

@@TomsBigSpiders Thank you very much! I will look for it! :-)
oh wow i just found out smth funny.
It's maddening sometimes! haha
