  • **GIVEAWAY HAS BEEN COMPLETED, THANKS FOR PLAYING EVERYONE!!!**
    After the first masterpeice USB install video, the manufactuter reached out to us to test some new versions. Unfortunatley, since Retro Grade does not have the budget for a secretary yet, we were unable to receive their messages until they reached out on social media recently. Well, here is is!
    There are two new versions tested on a 2021 Honda Trail CT125, and both of them are 100 PERCENT PLUG AND PLAY!
    Here are both versions tested, for purchase off of Amazon:
    Version 1 (Single Harness with Headlight Ground)
    www.amazon.com...
    Version 2 (Two Harness with Turn Signal Ground)
    www.amazon.com...
    GIVEAWAY RULES:
    1) Must be a Trail125 Owner (otherwise you'd have no use for one of these!)
    2) Must live in the United State (we aren't bankrupting ourselves on shipping!)
    2) Comment on what year your Trail 125 is, and what you hate (or love, we suppose) about it
    3) When we get a sufficient pool of comments/views/etc, we will pick two qualifying names at random and reach out to you from there. Who knows how long this will take. If this video performs like the last few have lately, this may take 6 months or a year :)
    If you do need to re-work any connections or want to switch to the single female bullet terminals, this is the tool that I use for crimping them:
    www.vintagecon...
    For more in depth information on full UBS install how to (removal and install of the headlight bucket, etc.), please watch our original USB install video made with the 'old version' kit:

      Nice! This video was more of a review (even though we showed some install as well). But, it hopefully covered the basics for those who know what they're doing. We did make an initial one that was much more in depth for some of the newbie riders uncomfortable with installing one (such as the nuiances of getting the headlight bucket seated, etc).
      Thanks for the comment!

    Just got a used 22 a couple months ago. Absolutely love the bike. A 5th gear would be awesome for low rpm 45/50 mph cruising. I also do catch myself reaching for the clutch leaver from time to time lol.

    • @retro_grade
      @retro_grade  10 місяців тому +2

      Instead of the 5th gear, in my opinion Hi/Lo range would be the ticket. That way, not only would it have more pull power, but the gearing could also be a bit steeper on the top end as well. Of course, since the original 90's and 110's were made in 4 speed, the nostalgia influences my opinion on that too :)
      I personally love the auto clutch on this bike, for the type of ride that it is. (Basically a two-wheeled ATV is how I view these things).
      Have you installed one of these yet? If not I'll get you in the drawing for FREE STUFF lol.

    took me 2 yrs+ to track one down ! got the 2022 and im almost to the first oil change another 100mi once the FL weather resumes... the thing i HATE ? the front brake being on the right side ! ( i doubt that could be changed. ) thanks for the video i am planning to do this upgrade very soon. BUT i will be doing it with a unit that comes with 2x type A and 1x type C pd has the on/off switch and finally a voltmeter in the middle that comes in blue red of green LED ;) (about $20...) WOW you have gave me an idea ! instead of fkn with all that wiring i can use an adapter and run it right to my battery tender which is located right behind the fuel injector LOL then its a win/win for me ! ( dont have to worry about the wire hangin down either. ) thanks so much for this idea ;)

      Nice! I was lucky and got my 2021 new right at MSRP without even trying. I literally wasn't even looking for or planning on buying one.
      Why do you hate the front brake being on the right?
      That sounds like a pretty complicated setup to have on there LOL. Why do you need the switch? That's what the beauty of this setup is that comes on and off with ignition.
      The battery tender adaptor does work great on the other end, as you saw, for when you want to charge things with the bike off. I've never had issues with mine being tucked up under the rack, and the best reason I like mine their for it's purpose is that it allows me to place whatever I'm charging on the rear rack (since that one is used when the bike isn't being operated).
      Thanks for the comment!

      we got ours new but normally ( since ive had it less then 2 mo ) ppl would want the 2023 model and sure i woulda liked to have got the green one but i really like the red and it grows on you ( mind you you are like much more likely to be pulled over with a red vehicle then any other... ) the switch ? it has it anyways so cant argue with that but originally i was going to go direct to the battery ( might still ) not sure on that yet but it just seemed to me i would like something that disconnects at will just in case there was ever a problem... i did not install the battery tender luckily the dealership does that with all bikes ( nice ! ) we paid the MSRP 2,999 which once you add everything in ( just like with the navi which i was willing to settle for 2 yrs ago and glad i didnt ! ) brings it up considerably in this case to 4,400. in the end you might as well get what you want ! ( availabilty considering of course ) ive been trying desperately NOT to do anything with it till its paid off ! but the good news is that should be within 2-4 mo. i couldnt resist getting the collapsible container ( webike ) and the brake and shifter pedals ( beez ) so i put all that on yesterday... wasnt expecting to have to buy a new drill tho and some misc stuff from home depot but at least i got much better all around drill package and its compatible with the old one thats really brand new itself ! ( was 180 for charger and 2x battery OR 150 for 2 drills the charger 2x batts (( 2.0a this time !!! )) and the bag etc.. soooo. also part of the reason is because i was in a bad accident back in 2016 so i am handicapped. having the brake on the left side would allow me to keep control of the bike and is exactly how my 81 honda express came. ( so this bike is like a cross between it and my 78 honda 50 ) ill tell i was sure happy when i realized the batt was there ! i dont care so much about its location reallyat this point i havent even mounted a phone/gps yet but i will... thats when ill need the usb. i really like having the voltmeter on it so thats why i want that one.. later i will decide which way ill go on the install. when i go camping i plan to bring a small generator and solar panels i already have so overall i love this bike more every time i see it. but i swear im not doing any more to it till its paid off ( except the long mirrors ($30) and the pad for the seat ($40) and phone holder. ) the shipping from japan and thialand was excellent and fast but they kill you on $ for it as that cost more then any of the things i got worth it tho...:) @@retro_grade

    Great videos. Just got the version 3, easy peasy. No crimping. Really plug and play. Thanks for giving part number so I got the right (new) one. What size male bullet connectors do I need to add another electrical accessory into that multiple port? My 18-24 bullets look a little obscene for me to jam in there. I subscribed! Silly-stupid but complete. My style.

      @retro_grade  5 місяців тому +1

      Thanks, we appreciate it!
      Are you trying to use standard bullet connectors from Autozone? If so, I'd recommend ordering some OEM style ones that fit a bit better. I actually have one of these kits:
      www.vintageconnections.com/collections/kits
      They look factory and work really well. There are two sizes. I'm guessing the newer Hondas use the larger size (4mm), but I just ordered an assortment of both sizes so I have them all.
      If you already have a crimping tool like the one he sells, you can order the connectors individually off of there as well. Hope this helps!

      @@retro_grade Thanks, yeah I saw the link and tool/kit. I’ve used a lot of posi-tap over the years (along with wire soldering and shrink tube), but was gonna just try to use a supply-store bullet without the expense of the special tool. Hmm. I will think about it. I do like the multiport on the kit and will shrink tube that whole thing when done adding (it’s really just a double port, not 4).

    I have a 2022, low clearance and minimal suspension are my biggest dislikes, could do better offroad if those were a bit better.

    • @retro_grade
      @retro_grade  9 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, those areas could be improved on I suppose, but to me these type of bikes don't shine as much going fast offroad - it's more the 'low and slow' game. Because of that, the lack of hi/lo range gearbox is what drives me nuts. I love putting my CT90 and CT110 into lo range when offroad and just being able to crawl up stuff!

    Is there a ground for the second version 3301 you tried ? Just want to be sure if get that one I don’t short anything out. Also saw you recommended putting electrical tape over the two dual plugs that the plastic could slide down so they don’t hit each other and cause a short correct?

    • @retro_grade
      @retro_grade  9 місяців тому +2

      There is, it's just running off of a ground circuit in the harness that goes to the headlight assembly. (If it didn't have one, the USB wouldn'w turn on). Wheras the other adaptor didn't have a ground in the main connector it used, so it had to utilize the turn signal ground instead.
      With the electrical tape comment, yeah - it'd probably be fine but I'm also OCD. With a single bullet connector plug (rather than the 4 prong female end), the rubber sheaths fit tightly into each other and seal off nicely. The 4 prong ones slide down a little easier than my liking.
      The event of them sliding off is unlikey, but if they did and the postive and negative leads touched it would create a short condition. Electrical tape just adds a little extra insurance to make sure that doesn't happen.

    • @retro_grade
      @retro_grade  6 місяців тому +1

      Wow, you are correct. Nobody caught that typo LOL.
      The company is called "Tricago" (not Kitaco, I have no idea why I put that instead). But they have several different generic names they used like alot many (likely Chinese) Amazon sellers.
      I did order a Kitaco kit made (more expensive than these) quite some time ago that was a quality kit made in Japan but didn't fit the US version bikes. I'm guessing my brain got the two names crossed without realizing it!
      Thanks for the correction 👍
