The song: While at festivals, there are 2 types of idiots. Idiots who dance and idiots who don’t. If you’re at a “metal” festival, then might as well be an idiot that dances. WASSHOI!

Welcome back to BabyMetal's journey, it's been a while.
We got another banger for Japanese festival or any festival around, they performed this at the recent World Tour 2023 and getting the crowd going bonkers with this.
The live debut was at Apocrypha - Another One exclusive show prior to the track release, it was fun and totally unexpected, everyone was having a blast and even started with a Kami Band solo after a while without it.
There's a live proshot version at Summer Sonic Festival in Osaka released in the official summer sonic but it's heavily blocked unlike this one. You'll notice some slight difference between the live and the studio album.
The song title is Metali!! (metal + matsuri, which is a Japanese festival) and you can hear it in the spoken section when MomoMetal is doing the Kabuki moves style.
Just so you know "wasshoi" is another shout used in Japanese festivals when men are carrying the shrine, similar to sore and soya in Megitsune and Karate. The traditional Japanese instrument you can hear in the beginning is a shamizen, also used in Megitsune.
I can totally see why they pick Tom Morello on this, the groove, the catchiness, the super energetic jump and those typical 90's vibes at funk or alternative metal live concerts.
    Next suggestion:
    - MAYA live at PIA Arena MM 2023 official MV.
They will be playing in San Francisco along with Dethklok for another round of the Babyklok Tour next April, so that's your chance to see them live but I'm pretty sure there will be more live shows so stay tunnel for more.
Thanks for sharing this and see you next time.🦊🤘🎸

"Wasshoi! Wasshoi! Wasshoi! Wasshoi!“ Great reaction. 🦊🤘 The song title translates as 'Metali' (or 'Metari') - it wouldn't show up in translations because it is a made up word, it is a fusion of the words metal and matsuri (festival). The song is about a Metal Village holding a metal festival, so they have included all the matsuri shouts everybody would be calling out as encouragement to the people carrying heavy floats etc like "Sore, Sore", "Dokoisho" and "Wasshoi!".
They are inviting us all to dance - I am reliably informed there is something in the lyrics (Su sings it and it is in Momometal's kabuki theatre section) about we are all idiots or fools - the idiots who watch and the idiots who dance ... so as we're all here and we're all idiots why just watch, we may as well all dance.
Tom Morello wasn't there (he didn't appear anywhere in the US tour and they played something like 29 dates, the chances of him flying all the way to Japan to play one song had to be zero), they used the official video footage so yes that was him on the big screen behind them.

You missed them last year in Houston :) I went all the way from Europe to see them there at the end of August last year xd.
They come back to the states in April this year for 2 more shows with Dethklok in SF and one show in Vegas.
This song is so much fun and makes the crowd go wild every single time they play it. 🤘🦊🔥

Thanks for this reaction, glad you liked it. Babymetal is crazy energetic in their music and live performance and thus the audience as well. It's one of the best parts of being at a Babymetal show.
Babymetal has been touring in the US since 2014, when they were literally just kids, 16, 15 and 15. They've been in Texas the first time in 2018 and last year performed 2 shows: Dallas and Houston. Only other city they had visited in Texas before is Austin.
Sadly Tom wasn't very visible in this video, because this was edited to be about the live performance (actually from the same festival as the Kingslayer video and edit by the same guy) and he wasn't there live (so far they've not performed it live with him, yet). If you look at the MV he's more prominent. And yes, obviously he created his signature guitar work for the song.
Yes, Babymetal's band aka Kami band is literally named God Band. They are amazing guys. The fans all love them too.
They guys have said in interviews: we don't want to mess up, because we would be the only one on stage, the girls, young ladies now, but it was true when they were just kids, are the most professional people they've ever worked with.
Anything Babymetal live is good as a reaction, honestly.
How about: BxMxC, like the video with the title: BABYMETAL // BxMxC

Not quite, they needed this song mainly to present their newest Metal Momoko. And last year they made a worldzour. while this year they are mainly acknowledged as showrunners for multiple Festivals.

They almost always go to Houston and Dallas whenever they do a US tour. The venues arent as big but they always give their best and its always an amazing time. I defintely recommend seeing them live if you ever get the chance. They're worth it!

BM videos tend to get official English subs only years later (future live performances). Until then, you'll have to rely on fansubs, so search for it.
As for this song, the lyrics are about a 'metal' matsuri (Japanese for village festival, 'metali' is wordplay of both terms), & Su-metal is cheering all song for everyone ("nikisan nekisan' = brothers & sisters) to form up, sing & dance along to the merrymaking. Traditional matsuris feature decorative heritage floats which are pulled or carried by participants, & the tune cleverly uses their style of chanted exhortations as a rallying call, either repeatedly shouted by Su & backup singers, or for the call-&-response parts.
wakka ni natte! = form a circle!
    so-re so-re dokkoisho! = that's it that's it let's go!
odore odore! = dance it dance it!
yurase yurase! = shake it shake it!
utae utae! = sing it sing it!
sakebe sakebe! = scream it scream it!
    wasshoi wasshoi! = heave-ho heave-ho!
Momometal's solo bit is Kabuki theatre, with the lyrics meaning something like: the dancing fools, look at the fools / if we're fools too, we should dance / if we don't dance now, then when are we to dance / metali metali / (growls) are you ready
This is one of BM's songs that is thoroughly themed around Japanese cultural mores. They had pioneered this with 'Megitsune' (which was inspired by folklore about supernatural vixens) way back when the girls were in their mid-teens (2013). The whole BM, Kami Band, 'kitsune' (fox) lore (they've even released a manga book), plus their music producers/songwriters/choreographer taking on '-metal' suffixes as pseudonyms, is an artistic embrace of their country's cultural mythology.

Saw them in Toronto in September! That was my first real exposure to BabyMetal as I took my cousin to the concert as a birthday gift and was absolutely blown away... I never expected the Metal and pop elements to mesh so well.. I can't recall a band that has done it this good if any ever. I've been in the rabbit hole since and not getting out anytime soon. The Japanese are fucking brilliant and these ladies are next level.

Love this song. I saw them in both Toronto and Vancouver. In Toronto, (and in performances prior) Su told everyone to "Sit down!", but by the time I got to see them in Vancouver a few weeks later Su was telling everyone to "Get low!". I'm not sure when the change took place but maybe I was one of very few to witness both versions. I think sitting down was too challenging for most concert attendees. Babymetal forever!! 🤘🦊🤘

Most jpop and kpop lyrics - love/sex/relationships (not done enough in the last 75 years apparently...), most BM...not :D The lyrics aren't too important with this festival song tbh :P Great reaction to a wonderful crowd song.

No, Tom was not actually there. What you saw on the screen was his footage shot for the official MV and his guitar tracks are backing track. They are scheduled to be performing at the same festival coming up soon, so they might poerform live together and hopefully if they do, we will get a pro-shot recording of it.
After all, it only took 3 years and Bring Me the Horizon to host a festival in Japan before we got a live performance of "Kingslayer" with both BMTH and Babymetal on stage together.
But only the Fox God knows......🤘🦊🤘

Awesome! I love this performance, so much energy and fun.
Song title is “Metali”, made up word mash of Metal + Matsuri (Festival).
Song is about getting all the boys and girls together to form a circle to sing and dance like fools at a Metal Village Metal Festival.
Tom contributed his signature guitar sounds for the solos, and no, he wasn’t there unfortunately.
Momo’s spoken bits were a call back to traditional Kabuki Theater, poking fun at it.
For other Babymetal songs, just pick any live ones, lol. Almost all of them are good! But, I suggest Monochrome (Pia Arena 2023) if you haven’t done that yet.
    🤘🦊

Loved your enthusiastic reaction. No Tom is not playing live. The Metali mv has a greenscreened appearance of Tom. In the live show they play the exact same solo and vido from the mv. The editing on this video makes it almost impossible to see Tom. It's actually a very nice performance on his part. Even singing along withe the chorus.

looks like Katas or what the Maori do to me the dance to a degree. I was offered a ticket to a show in Chicago about a decade back or so, because my wife was into K-pop and went to a few shows without me since it was not what I wanted to hear or see, would have been a waste of money for me to come with. So she offered to get me a ticket to the show and send me to it, I just could not say yes. They I think were all under 18 at the time, was like 40 or so then myself. Just thought going to the concert would mark me as a dirty old man, even though my wife went to Big Bang. Like their music look and weirdness, still am uncomfortable with seeing them live, probably only because of me. Also since then seeing them is expensive now, just last year they played in Milwaukee, in a shitty club that has shitty sound and is small they asked for 60$ for standing room tickets. Just no and hell no, honestly won't pay that for great bands, which is my own issue not theirs. So many prices have skyrocketed up but never come down, I use a cane and have a bad leg, yet I have to pay a lot more so I have a seat. Thus I do not go to shows anymore, I'll get a live performance on digital or something instead last longer and can always be there.

Machine translations of Japanese are generally terrible. Google is not even the best at it anymore. And UA-cam's auto-translating on the fly is even worse. Japanese is a very context-dependent language and machine translators are not good at that. For some reason, Babymetal don't invest the resources into supplying their own human translations for their videos.
