      @@Mr.NiceGuy1986 yeah, you can always tell somebody who dosnt own one, and watches MILD, those of us who have used arc, tend to have a very different view then those who just hear/watch about it...
      and, arc is still far from fully optimized driver wise, some titles still benefit greatly from dxvk-gplasync and dgvoodoo2 type wrappers, less and less needed..
      something i notice is that frame times have become far more solid without any wrappers being needed, even vs amd and nvidia in some titles..more so amd.. hell watch the frame time graph in a few fairly close titles.. arc even if a bit lower in fps is going to feel smoother with the tighter frame times... its why some people i know moved to lower tier nvidia products from top end amd products not so many years ago.. they may have gotten lower max fps, but the stability of fps was just way better..
      i have had this Acer Predator Bifrost A770 16gb for almost a year now and.... im on an old x299 system thats "not supported"...i mean if i tossed 10th gen it would be but.. why would i want to spent 10th gen money when im running a delidded 7980xe@4.6ghz? that i got for 267shipped... :)
      anyway, yeah i love my card, got 5 buddies who followed me and only one had some issues, and it was resolved with a fresh windows install.. as even ddu couldnt seem to remove the old amd and nvidia driver spooge from the system, and that was an win7 install that was over 7 years old he upgraded to 10 then 11.. sooo.. yeah.. no shock he had some issues due to how old the base install was and all the reg bs that wasnt cleaned up before he moved from 7 to 10.. (it can work fine, buit always ddu before doing a 7 to 10/11 grade.. it will save you headaches down the road.. like reinstalling all the crap the user had installed.. that they actually needed... )

      Well I own an Intel arc A770 16GB ASRock GPU, and it rocks. I upgraded from an rx6600 to an rx6700, and decided to return that for the arc A770 16GB as it was the same price. I went from 60 FPS with FSR at maximum quality on resident evil 4 remake. To native 4k with maxed out settings and ray tracing on getting near 60 FPS.

    I've used the A750 and like it. They are really getting better all the time at a breakneck pace to boot. But at the end of the day, I like AMD and am running an Asrock Challenger 6650XT, I nabbed it for $220 from Microcenter last week. Great card, no doubt. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either one so go for the cheapest option when buying. Happy Turky Day to you and yours Paul and Joe, try not to explode afterwards, eh? We need you 😂❤

    I own an Arc a750. The drivers have improved a great deal even in the month and a half that I've had it--but yeah, the drivers and optimizations have a loooong way to go. Some games, especially older ones, play at FPS rates far below what something in the Arc's weight class should be able to achieve. The raw potential power of the a750 still makes it a compelling buy for me, and I'm hoping/expecting that there will be even more improvements in the future. For the moment, though, the 6650XT is a much safer bet, since its a more stable product.
    But I will say, if you like to tinker, you're okay with waiting a bit for the software to catch up to the hardware, and you want to support a third party to stick it to Nvidia (and scare AMD into actually pricing their products competitively), then the a750 is a great buy.
    Oh, and AV1 encoding on the cheap. AV1 is nice. Reeeeeal nice.

    • @edmac1090
      @edmac1090 10 місяців тому +6

      AMD has no incentive to price its products any more competitively than it already does. In the past it has had products that were straight-up better than Nvidia’s offerings, but gamers voted with their wallets.

      When? It's been since like Maxwell that Nvidia has been winning in design. I remember back when Maxwell came out and it was so efficient plus beat AMD in gaming. All the AMDrones said "efficiency doesn't matter just max out put" 🤣.....now it's "efficiency is king" 😆..... Because AMD got lucky and Intel got lazy resting on their laurels. Meanwhile Nvidia has been kicking their can all over the place.

    I've bought my a750 a week ago, since it's price started climbing in my country. It was still about 40 to 60$ cheaper than the fx7600, and I really wanted the hardware encoder for productivity reasons. I also have quite an aging system with AM4 and PCI3, so having 16 physical lanes mattered a lot too. I'm really happy with the card, especially that it's performance in older games wouldn't really bother me on linux anyway because of DXVK being the default method here. I do have to confirm that coil whine seems to affect all of them, my a750 almost gave me a heart attack in some games until I nervously scrambled to turn vsync on. I'm not sure if it behaves like that with every third party version, as I have the Intel "Limited edition" too.

    Yes, I am right in the midst of building a new gaming/video rendering PC. HOWEVER - I am using only USED parts. That is my window into an overpowered beast on a budget...
    1. Case: NZXT S340 Mid Tower - modded with two dual 120mm grills from Amazon (very high quality, only $16.99 ea.). Dremel cutouts on top and front of case,.allows for push-pull 240 Rad in front for CPU AIO, and two 120mm intake fans on top.
    2. Used Corsair 1000w fully modular PSU
    3. MSI X99A SLI Plus socket 2011-3 motherboard with NVMe m.2 and up to eight sticks of quad channel RAM
    4. Intel Xeon E5-2696 v3 CPU - a custom variant of the same 2699 v3. The standard Xeon has a turbo boost of 3.6GHz, while the custom version has a boost clock of 3.8GHz. Version 3 Xeons can have turbo boost unlocked on all cores via a BIOS injection mod. This enables 3.8GHz on all 18 cores and 36 threads on this chip.
    5. nVidia RTX 3080 FE with the copper plate VRAM mod
    6. nVidia GTX 980 Ti EVGA Hybrid (120mm Rad) - for separate OBBS capture, and for DVI-I analog output to CRT for full analog retro gaming
    7. WiFi/Bluetooth PCIe add-on card
    8. Dual NVMe m.2 drives PCIe add-on card
    9. 1 x 512Gb Samsung 950 Pro NVMe SSD system drive (on MB)
    10. 2 x 2Tb Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSD working drives (refurbished)
    11. 1 x 10Tb HGST HDD storage drive (Helium-filled)
    12. 64Gb Machinist 2133 ECC DDR4 Quad Channel RAM
    13. Approx. 8 120mm fans (already own)
    PC Case, Motherboard, RAM, WiFi Card, PSU, SSD = $400
    CPU = $40
    Custom Vents, NVMe Add-on Card = $44
    2 x 2Tb SSD + 1 x 10Tb Drive = $270
    nVidia RTX 3080 FE + Copper Mod/Thermal Paste = $420
    nVidia GTX 980 Ti Hybrid = $100
    Total = $1274
    Total System: 18 Core/36 Thread @ 3.8GHz, 2-GPU w/RTX 3080 FE, 4.5Tb SSD, 10Tb Storage, 1000w, WiFi/Bluetooth, 64Gb RAM = $1274
    Might want to double-check my math. But that's my streaming/rendering/gaming build. This will be my first PC since 2015, making some big changes and hoping to get into streaming with an old friend. Want to be ready, because I'm not doing this again for a while.
    This build started around the CPU. It has a massive 45Mb L3 cache - nearly double that of any desktop CPU. The E5-2699 v3 is a well known CPU. The E5-2696 was a custom variant, made for a single vendor, and not found on ark.intel. The only difference I could find is the higher boost clock on the custom version. And with the ability to unlock turbo boost on all 18 cores (this is a v3-chip series mod only), it becomes a workhorse. It's not exactly a 4.4GHz turbo i9-9980XE, but that's a $600+ chip right now at the end of 2023. Then there is the cost of an x299 motherboard.
    The Xeon cannot be overclocked. Though to overclock the i9, it requires some very extravagant cooling - a 360 Rad. minimum. Just 600MHz less, at 3.8GHz, I can use my current AIO and save both money and space. I've wanted to downsize from my Corsair 800D Obsidian for forever. Getting all of this hardware into a mid tower case is, to me, a revelation.
    I'm pulling a JayzTwoCents case mod, just cutting open the front and top for maximum airflow. He pointed to the grills for additional fans that are really well made. I might even cut a hole for a DVD drive as well, just to be different. I want the PC to look dated and not that great, no giveaway to what's inside.
    But I might be most excited by the water-cooled GTX 980 Ti. I've got both a 17-inch CRT monitor in storage, as well as a very fresh Sony CRT television that will be perfect for some retro gaming. I was already past college when Quake 3D and Doom came out. I completely remember the feel of zero input lag when blasting aliens on a little 15-inch monitor. It'll be great to pump out those instantaneous frames on a big, 27-inch Sony TV in crisp, electron-beam glory.
    So, that's my build. A beefy, 18 core Xeon and a 3080 FE for raw processing grunt, with some fun custom touches. Some will surely mock the 2133NHz DDR4, but it's not in dual channel, it's in quad channel, so 2133 is really like 4266MHz. I'm not worried that it'll be slow or outdated. Right now I'm just waiting on AliExpress for some deliveries....

    I got my 6650xt for $275 last November, been totally worth it upgrading from a 1060 6gb. amd's adrenalin is pretty good and I think I've gotten more than 50$ worth of use out of it. The worst part is not being able to use RT in cyberpunk without a massive FPS cut but hopefully it will get FSR 3 ... someday ... but otherwise it's pretty good for 1440p and would be a lot better if I upgrade to a 5800x3d from my 3600. However I might just hold onto the money and save for a new build, hopefully with a 7800x3d.

    I'm doing a $700 pc right now. I just have some more freedom since I'm providing the PSU and the case outside of the components. So I was able to upgrade a little bit. 5600x + 6700xt, 16MB 3200c16, 1TB nvme gen 3, sticking with the stock cooler, but the case is an o11-D with 6 fans that I'm also throwing in, so that much airflow in there should help with the cooling.
    In the case of your query about your GPUs, I'd probably stick with the AMD side in this debate because of their reliability and up-to-date drivers... Maybe Intel will make something spectacular some day; then I'll take a closer look at their product. Took me a while to warm up to AMD GPUs too... used to have a lot of bad luck with them. Then, with the 4000 series, Nvidia basically alienated me for life... now rocking a 7900XT (from a 3090), and I'm so much happier.

    Paul, thanks for testing Flight Simulator, I don't play it, but nice to see. As for a $40 difference, if a $40 difference in price is negligible to a person for the GPU, they should be going for a tier up or current generation. To me, I can afford the $40 easily, but would see the difference as very compelling for the A750 or the RX7600 at about $240 this weekend.

    Thank you for doing this comparison Paul. For as much optimization that comes out in the news for Intel's Arc GPUs, there hasn't seemed to be a recent update from any techtubers regarding its performance (to be fair these updates come out almost weekly it seems like). I'm interested to see how Intel's lower market price GPUs compare to the likes of AMD. Maybe at some point Nvidia can step back into this price slot...

    6650's pretty nice. A750's pretty nice. Get whatever's on sale! Each have their downsides (software capturing on Intel's annoying, software capturing on AMD's desynched audio/video, etc). I will say most complaints regarding drivers and performance for Intel Arc have melted away, all my time with the a380 and a750 have been by and large blissful. If you can get a used/open box a750 for the 150-160 mark, you will 110% be thrilled with price to performance.

    picked up the A-750 on cyber Monday for a crazy $179 new two days later it was back up to $229 sold and shipped at Newegg stuck in my budget back up system with a R5 7600 and 32 gig ddr 5 4800 ram and it scores 11333 on 3d mark and seems to run every game I toss at it great on my 27" 1080P 240hz screen very happy with it ...main gaming rig is 7800x3d with 7900xtx but wanted to also know how Intel is doing so decided on the A-750 for back up system well because I like knowing all the players and how they work :-) daughter has a 13400 system with Nvidia 3060 12 gig so I get to play with them all now and have a real opinion and wow Intel ARC and it drivers are nothing to shy away from any more ...a year ago i got the little A-380 so i have been tinkering with it for a wile and for a good it it was quite buggy but today I say if it is a better deal for the performance go for it Intel has worked very hard and it is paying off and I cant wait to see what they offer next .. :-)

      specs aren't lower. Hardware encoding, AI, RT. You compromise on some performance for more features. At this price point, I'm looking to be introduced to the new features. It has to work well enough for me to feel the benefits of these features so that when then next gen of gpu's come around I can determine if it's worth it to pay for these features when it matures. If this card can last 2 years, it's done its job.

    I think I would just save and up the CPU as much as possible. I did this in 2012 and am still running the 3930k for 1080 gaming coupled with a 1070 (oldie machine) and it does fine. That's good value for money long term. which does me just fine. When GTA VI drops I'll probably do a new build and these ARC cards are looking excellent. Imagine being around for only 18 months and killing it like this (despite a bit of a driver hiccup).

    Thanks again for this content. As I commented in the first half of the video, this is extremely pertinent to me since I’m collecting parts to build a system with my daughter on Christmas! I’m still really torn, and considering the a750. However, for me, the decision is between that and the 6600. Since they have pretty good price, parity, and both are in my sub $200 budget target , I’m still finding it difficult to decide which one to pick in the $180-190 range. I do get your point that the 6650XT is a much better performer , but I’m really not looking to go above the $200 mark, and I don’t need to hit that higher performance level, since eventually, my daughter will be getting a hand-me-down 3070 in the system instead. Either way, thanks for the food for thought, and have a very happy Thanksgiving!

    I'd like to build a mini ITX system next year, and I'm looking at an all Intel build - 13700 paired with an ARC GPU. I'm really curious about them, and as much as I hate Intel being a money hungry juggernaut, I think the space needs more competition. Intel won't make more ARC if people aren't buying them.

    For comparison, I built a similar system recently having TimeSpy results pushing a 10k overall score. The MB, GPU, and NVME were the only new parts and purchased within the past year for around $500. I suspect the difference maker in TimeSpy score from Paul’s findings is the 1080p and maybe hardware I will list at the end…
    Cooler Master Storm Scout case;
    Ryzen 3600;
    Wraith cooler w a 2004 Dell copper core heat sink sandwiched between Wraith fan and stock heat sink;
    MSI B550M pro-vdh Wi-Fi MB;
    Micron 2x8 GB DDR4 3200 memory;
    Samsung 970 evo plus 1TB NVME ssd;
    Antec 550W PWS (circa 2011);
    Samsung S27D360H 1080p monitor; and lastly…
    PowerColor Hellhound RX 7600

    For CPU, I would go with go with New cheaper Ryzen 5500x3D when ever comes out or 5600x3D for $229.99, for GPU for $20 more I would go with Radeon RX 7600 for $249.99 this will provide me more FPS in gaming. I would go with remaining components.

    My buddy is building his new gaming rig but he's on a very strict budget: no more than $500 if he wants to stay married. I've donated a Corsair 750w PSU, memory and a case so mainboard, CPU and GPU have to hit those marks. The $40 dollar difference between the two cards is huge in a case like this so I'm hoping he goes for the Arc card and puts the savings into a better motherboard. Great video Paul, just what I needed to see.
