- Today I tried overclocking the worst, slowest, cheapest and most overpriced graphics card until I got 240 FPS. For the past few years, Fortnite has been an extremely demanding Esports title, until today. In this video I'm going to optimize and overclock my $20 USD Nvidia GeForce GT 710 until we can run a smooth 240 FPS in Fortnite Battle Royale, in Chapter 5. The funny thing is that it doesn't even reach Fortnite's minimum requirements, and the PC itself has PC parts that are older than Fortnite itself, so this was a fun Fortnite challenge.

@@gigabyte3420 The "inaccurate statistics" is immediately disproven if you compare the site to other benchmark sites.
The only reason why I've heard this from places like Reddit, is because the actual numbers themselves are calculated from a plethora of random users doing their own benchmarks, so there's going to be a bit of room for error. At the same time though, I still think this is better than one definitive number that was benchmarked in completely perfect conditions on a completely optimized rig.
The Bias part IS true, but the numbers dont lie.

The amounts of unwarranted trash talk in this video is just astounding... He trashed HDD's, a third gen core i5, he didn't do a lot of overclocking at all, compared the (really awful) gt 710 to the best integrated graphics we recently got (780m), went about a "165 fps minimum" and how 60 fps isn't playable, and worst of all, was that he relied on a bunch of random performance boosts rather than overclocking the gpu to "get" to the target, worst 7 minutes of my life (I had no willpower left to continue on watching)

that ssd being hammered at idle was an issue I also had on my computer for a time. I forgot what the hell I did to fix it, but it was some bizarre edge case.
More realistically though, it was probably windows defender desperately scanning the hell out of that drive to quarantine or secure any viruses.
I had a gt710 for 3 years until I got a gtx950 (don't judge me pcs are expensive). And man what an upgrade.
I wouldve got a 1050/60 instead but i can tell you got a great upgrade

144 is perfectly fine, I've never even heard of anyone using monitors above that, aside from streamers.
going over that refresh rate makes no difference, you will just have a worse experience due to needing a higher frame rate and frame cap, which will result in higher FPS fluctuations and stuttering.
also it wouldnt even be good for VR, to the guy who said that, because again, of the framerate fluctuations and then stuttering, which will give you a headache and disorient you.

@@PauloRondynele He's right. Now I don't play fortnite, but framerates above 165 are basically necessary for top-level play in loads of competitive games nowadays. Although the advantage is small, as players approach the skill ceiling, smaller advantages start to matter more.

@@meh6513 Yeah, don't use them as benchmarking results. Instead try to look at trusted reviewers such as Toms Hardware, TechPowerUp, and UA-cam reviews.
Depends on which component you want to compare side by side. CPU; Cpubenchmark from Passmark. GPU, techpowerup relative performance chart or Tomshardware GPU hierarchy chart. For screens, google the name of the model and find the panel and specs itself. SSDs, google SSD tier list.

hard drives arent that slow. mach-2 hdds will be released at some point and we will be seeing ssd-speeds on hdds (albeit lots of noise)

I don't know why you would say that you accidentally "rage baited" people because you incorrectly diagnosed the issue on why your dads computer was slow, instead of just admitting that your were wrong and owning up to it. This video isn't bad, but it comes off as immature when you just excuse it as it just being a UA-cam video. That doesn't mean anything; it is just a vague fallacy.
I actually stopped the video and decided to check the comments to see, if he corrected his mistake. I wouldn't have said anything, if he didn't twist things this way. Thanks for pointing that out! In all honesty I am more annoyed that it's misleading since the CPU is still decent for everyday tasks and light gaming and not many people would bother to check twice remaining with the wrong impression. Heck, I have an old workstation from 2007 with 2 x Intel Xeon X5460 paired with GTX 1060 6GB that can run games like Final Fantasy XIV, The Elder Scrolls Online, Mass Effect Andromeda with tweaked settings (mixture of settings that ease up the workload on the CPU, but still keep most of the GPU intensive visuals) at 3440 x 1440 resolution with close to 60 fps which for casual gaming is perfect. As for browsing, there are no issues at all.
In conclusion, you don't need a "rocket machine" to have fun and even some of the first CPUs with AVX instructions can handle relatively modern titles at an acceptable performance (~50-60 fps), provided you know how to tweak your graphical settings.
@@FrostarmyN7 it's ironic too, since I released a video earlier today in relation to how you feel on this sort of subject. Honestly, maybe the GT 710 deserves a video much better than this one. Maybe I should give it a shot and try to actually overclock, or put an aftermarket heatsink on one to really see how far it could actually go.

As for the GT 710, I would say that if a 8800 GT that was released 7 years earlier annihilates it in terms of raw performance, then you can't expect it running anything new decently. I remember watching a RGinHD video a while ago where there was an attempt to run 2 in SLI. Probably the only viable option if you want to run any game of its launch era (back when SLI was still a thing). Otherwise, old games like Oni or Serious Sam are just great for such hardware. :)

Man, put some respect on IME name, it had insane specs for the time, 1000hz whilst ur average mouse had 125hz, mostly all CS 1.6 pros were using it, even ScreaM (best aimer in CS history) in CS:GO was using the 1.1. And the shape is loved to this day.
The true crime in this video isn't the complete lack of technical knowledge or the entitlement but the fact that you didn't even touch upon actually overclocking this thing. These old bottom tier nvidia cards are a goldmine of overclocking potential with bios modding. Yes, the gpu still sucks ass but the real fun comes from messing with it and not from playing games with it.

The i5 3570 is decent for general tasks and older games but isn't the best CPU on the socket even for the money. The Xeon E3-1230v2 would be a decent $12 upgrade and it's essentially a i7 3770 without an iGPU

Competitive minor league e-sports player here, MOST (not all) of the members on our team roster are using 1080p 60hz monitors with decent GPUs, the kind of FPS that a GT710 is getting is actually insane for games it's meant to play, playing games at 60fps back when I grew up and played videogames was seen as a privilege (And I'm only 22), but back to the main point, you do not need such a high framerate for casual play, that was honestly a poor choice of words, for competitive play yes, you definitely need high fps for reduced input latency as in an e-sports setting every single millisecond counts, for example the difference between the kill time ms in CSGO and the kill time in CS2 being much higher so a good GPU is needed to compensate for poor coding, but for people just looking to have fun and play games, this GPU is fine and does it's job pretty well.
My dad also has a GT720, we play Rocket league together, RTS games, and everything else that we both enjoy, yes he can't play triple A games like Elden Ring because that GPU will unalive itself, but we can still play borderlands 2 together, and honestly, that's probably more fun than any Fortnite player is having.

Rookie, I have an i5 3550 with a gt 520 (1gb vram). It struggles displaying default windows wallpaper with no background tasks
For future notes, if you hold CTRL during bootup and login MSI Afterburner will not apply overclocking profiles which allows you to edit your settings or revert back to normal.
At 2:18 that CPU can actually handle windows 10 and 11 quite well if it weren’t for the fact there’s definitely something wrong with that SSD. I’ve run even older CPUs on windows and they will run fine if the OS drive isn’t horrible.

u aint wrong bro. when i was homeless i got a semi permanent room at the shelter. i managed to get a pc from cash converters for pennies on the dime. i had a i7 3770 and gtx 960. i had no internet so i had to game on 3g hotspot on a prepaied plan. was tough times back then lol.
Just FYI my dude, the reason that your dad's computer feels slow is not because of its 3rd gen i5. It's because he's using a mechanical hard drive.
Also, that mouse absolutely does have side buttons, one on each side. It was my trusty 800 DPI mouse for a good 3 years when I was playing over summer break as a kid. Doing some research on that Microsoft mouse, you'll find that it was actually considered one of the best consumer mice ever made for early gaming over USB 2.0.

I used to have a GT710, which gave me around 60 FPS in Fortnite on the lowest possible settings. I even reached Diamond in Valorant with it, though the FPS would drop to as low as 20 when too much is happening.
